It went very well. I called them after our old furnace quit working and they were there the next morning to discuss having a new one put in. Even though they knew that our old furnace had quit working and that we needed a new one ASAP it did not feel like they were pressuring us or inflating the price to take advantage of the situation. They installed the new furnace within a couple of days. They were quick, clean, and very professional. Our new furnace has been working great for the past two winters. I would highly recommend them.

Very responsive and scheduling of sales call in my home. Tim, sales, is very knowledgeable of the product and HVAC systems. He did an assessment of our home and what was working well / not so well with original system (approximately 18.5 yrs old). He recommended a new system. Through his mobile office, he was able to provide printed price quote on the spot. Once I accepted proposal, very easy to schedule and Schwantes was flexible in arranging installation date. Although Tim though it might take 1.5 days, the installers, Chris & Brian, were able to complete in less than one day. Chris arrived right on time, 7:30 am, and was soon joined by Brian and other assistants. Job was completed by 3 pm. They programmed the new thermostat and all was working fine. After a couple of weeks, I was contacted by Tim for follow-up and payment. Again, he was quite flexible in scheduling the appointment. After a follow-up inspection, we went over the final invoice and warranty information that Schwantes applied for on my behalf. Rebates through Excel were also submitted. A great overall experience.

I worked with Scott from Scwantes from the quoting process through to final install. Scott was great - showed up right on time to give me an estimate, provided a written estimate through email, great communication on the scheduling of the install. If I sent Scott an email he always replied within an hour or so, including evenings. Scott even showed up with the installers on the date of install to make sure everything went correctly. Installers did a fantastic job. Left ZERO mess. Gave instructions on how to operate the unit. The installation looks great inside the house as well as outside. They did a very nice job covering the lines outside the house so it looks professional and clean. I would recommed Scott and Schwantes to anyone for heating and a/c needs. I had a great experience from beginning to end. I honestly could not have had a better experience with this purchase and install.

The temp was dropping a bit in the house so did some checking and the furnace just was not heating. This was around 12 noon on a Friday. I had never used Schwantes Heating and A/C before, but saw them on Angie's List and gave them a call. To my relief, they did have a worker to send out yet that afternoon. The person showed up within the window of 2pm-4pm. He checked out the furnace and took off a part called a blower module and said it needed to be replaced. Cost of this part was 561.00 but otherwise the furnace is in good shape and not ancient by any means, so I said by all means to replace the part. He took off to get the part at the shop and returned quickly considering it was rush hour. He fixed it all up and the furnace has been running great ever since. The labor charge was 85.00. I was very satisfied with the work done and thought the worker sure knew what he was doing.

They gave me the estimate on Monday and it was done that Wednesday. So easy, I didn't even have to be there for the installation. It was very easy to sign up for the credit plan to pay for it. They fill out all the paperwork for rebates, you don't even have to touch it. After rebates my total will be $6700.00. Very friendly and professional.

Wade arrived within the 2 hour time frame stated. He had shoe covers. He listed out everything that he did on the receipt. The items covered were: checked filter, cleaned flame sensor, checked inducer motor & ignitor, verified gas pressure and adjusted, checked the blower motor, verified the system was not leaking CO2, and verified the safety devices work. For the amount of time he was here, about 30 minutes, I thought that $100 was a reasonable price. Our furnace is 5 years old and this was the first tune up/cleaning we had done.

The tech had no answer why our furnace had gone out in the first place. That lack of an answer is the only reason I gave an overall "B". Perhaps that is not fair of me. He also scoped the heat exchanger and noted some corrosion but no cracks. The furnace was over 20 years old so we decided this was a "wake up call" and decided to replace it. We ended up going with another company for the replacement because the Schwantes estimator seemed less confident about venting a high efficiency furnace through the roof. They would have credited the service call toward the replacement if we had chosen them.
Description of Work: Furnace wasn't working so we called a couple of companies who were highly rated. Schwantes could come the soonest. The tech easily got the heat back on. No new parts were needed.

Purchased a two-stage furnance and air conditioner after getting estimates from multiple vendors. The salesperson was good and a straight shooter which we found releaving. The installation technician was experienced, effiicient, timely, and courteous. He also took the time to answer questions we had during installation. Other technicians came to assist and we were informed in advance and they were all courteous and nice. The installation time matched the estimated time. I waited several months to write the review to test how well the A/C and furnance operated. Since we've worked both out a bit now they're both performing wonderfully and we've seen a sigificant increase in even temperature throughout the house with the DC fan now and a significant reduction in cooling (even during this hot summer) and heating bills. Most people I talked to and what I read said that installation is the biggest part of a well performing HVAC system and our units were installed very well. Highly recommend!

I had originally called for an estimate over a year ago. I wasn't ready at that time for the replacement. I contacted Tim in early spring to do another quote. Tim came back to make sure nothing changed and gave me basically the same quote (minus rebates that had expired). I was impressed with how detailed the analysis was on what my house would require in terms of heating and cooling. I knew that the air conditioner definitely needed to be replaced. And, I thought that the furnace was at end of life, as well. Both were 20 years old. However, Tim did tell me that the furnace was in good shape and could possibly last a couple more years. I really appreciated that honesty. The other places that I got quotes from, didn't mention keeping the furnace and only replacing the air conditioning unit as an option. Ultimately, I decided to replace both. It was very easy to schedule the work. I was told to plan on it taking 1 - 1 1/2 days for the removal and replacement. They showed up to do the work, they were about 10 minutes late. And, they apologized a couple of times for that. They came from Stillwater to South Minneapolis and were there at 8:10. I wasn't bothered at all by them not being there at 8:00AM on the dot. I thought their apology was very professional and appreciated, but definitely not warranted. I worked from home that day, and had warned my co-workers that it would be loud on conference calls that I would be on. That wasn't the case at all. Except for a few minor bangs removing the old furnace, I really didn't know that they were even in the house (I have a small house too). What I was really amazed at, is they came up to me at 2:00 on the first day and said, "all done". That shocked me a bit, as again, I had planned for it to be an all-day thing. And, actually a little more. The installers were incredibly helpful. They walked me through everything. Showed me what they did. They showed me how to program the new thermostat, and mentioned additional cost savings if I did progam it. He mentioned that he had the same thermostat and what he'd saved by programming it. But, he was clear that our houses weren't the same, so my savings would be different. All the same, I did appreciate sharing the knowledge of how I could see additional savings. The only reason that I gave a B on responsiveness is that it took about a month for a callback on how the installation would work, and another week or two on getting the rebates submitted. All in all a very minor inconvenience. After this hot summer, I was really happy with my monthly electric bills. Tim did tell me that I would see significant decrease. But, I wasn't sure how much it would be. It has been a very noticeable difference! In a really, really good way. I would definitely, definitely recommend Schwantes to anyone looking for Heating or AC work.

Our air conditioner died at the end of last summer and our furnace was twenty years old and not high efficiency. We got three quotes and decided on Schwantes. Serviceperson Joe was at my home at 10AM same day Monday June 11, 2012. Pat Bigham was the Installation Technician, he was waiting at my home for me at 3:30 PM, same day Monday 6/11/12. A partner arrived a short time later. They had the A/C installed and working by 7:30 same day. The Heating system was setup and Pat Bigham came back on 6/12/12 and finished the job. I feel he did a wonderful job. Pat Bigham and his partner were very nice, explaining how everything works and programmed my A/C.
Description of Work: On June 8, 2012, my A/C went out. My A/C, I have had problems with the A/C over a number of years. I decided to have my heating and air conditioning system replaced. Since the heating system was the same age, 21 years old, I replaced both.

Requested service via their web site in the morning when our air conditioner quit cooling and received a polite, professional phone call within 30 minutes. She let me know when I could expect the technician and he arrived within that time frame. Discovered right away that the capacitor had failed and replaced it. The service charge was known up front and although I could have purchased the part myself for much less money, the mark up was within reason. The technician was professional and left the area clean.

Saftey inspection for 2 furnaces located 2 feet apart cost 300. Took him 30 minutes. Installation of a typical electric close dryer exhaust vent cost 275 because of permits and the Schwantes attitude that customers should pay up for their license to do business in St. Paul, MN. The dryer duct was missing insulation and thus had to have them back out to repair that. While the #1 inspector was there he noticed the chiminey venting on the furnace was not up to the standards of the city of St. Paul. That repair invovled replacing about 6 feet of venting pipe and purchasing permits becuase the contractor installing the furnace did not get the required permits . The quote from Schwants was 1350, including the cost of permits and they are licensed to do business in St. Paul. They charged 200 dollars for a heat loss estimate that another contractor would have done for free and that contractor is doing the venting work for 800. The total cost for a few feet of pipe will be 1000 dollars. Thank you St. Paul, MN.

This customer called on us to repair work that another contractor did "on the side" and did not do the work properly to code. We gave a quote up front for each piece of work that needed to be done and Member chose to only have us do part of the work. I don't know how we could be rated poorly on price for a service Member chose to have someone else do. I also don't know if the company he chose did the work to our standards or to code. Obviously the first company did not.

The report was a pack of lies: CO test fail, ignitor needs replacing, recommend not using, red tagged unit REPLACE. We had Perfection heating from Maplewood come out the next day and the furnace is fine. We trust Perfection because they did an excellent job installing our air conditioning. We only called Schwantes because we have an unusual brand of furnace and Perfection isn't able to fix it.

I am sorry I did not respond sooner but I was just informed of this complaint. In regards to the ignitor, a silicone carbide ignitor usually ohms out between 40 and 70 ohms. Your ignitor ohmed out at 74. Also, the technician noticed discoloring in one spot of the ignitor which indicates a hot spot. To prevent failure a new ignitor was recommended. As far as the safety of the furnace goes it did not pass the CO test. The heat exchanger is a sealed system and the products of combustion will not change when the blower is turned on or off unless the heat exchanger is compromised. Therefore, I have to stand by Wade's diagnosis and I highly recommend you get another opinion.

I am sorry for the delayed response but this is the first I have heard of this. As far as the costs go you were charged a total of $137. This included the trip, diagnosing, and cleaning and lubing the combustion blower of your furnace. I think if you were to check around you would find that is a fair price. As far as the water heater being unplugged I really apologize. I don't know how that happened but I will certainly speak to the technician to make sure it does not happen again. I would be happy to extend a $25 discount on a future service that we perform for you. Please contact Dave Pearl for the discount.

We originally contacted Schwantes to have them check a malfunctioning fan on our 18-year old furnace. They arrived on a Monday morning and after inspecting the furnace, informed us that the heat exchanger was cracked. They shut the gas off to the furnace and warned us not to use it. We made arrangements to meet with Scott, their sales representative, that evening for a quote on a new furnace. He came to our home and explained the furnace model options and various credits and rebates. He was very thorough. We selected a mid-range high efficiency Trane furnace. Due to their workload we had to wait four days for installation. The installer, (working alone), finished the job in about four hours. This included returning to their shop to create an adapter to our existing ductwork. We live approximately 1 mile from their shop, so drive time was not a big factor. Chris, the installer, also had to run another PVC air intake pipe through our basement wall and install the new thermostat that came with the furnace. Other than a bent hinge on our basement door, (not mentioned by us at the time), everything went perfectly. We did not receive an invoice at the time of installation. Scott, the sales rep returned about four weeks later to ask if we had any questions and to collect the check. We chose to pay the total amount, thus receiving a 5% discount. I would not hesitate to use Schwantes again or to recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Installed new furnace and thermostat.
