This was a horrible experience from the begining. First, Royal Mechanical took advantage of the fact that I live out of state. They installed a furnace in a rental property of mine and later charged me $4000 for a $2500 project. They used my rental property manager as their scape goat and kept blaming the fact that they overcharged on the fact that the rental property manager authorized the job. Never did they consult me, the OWNER, of the property before begining work. Next, they did not pull a permit for the work. I was again dinged on this when the city came through for the annual inspection. They finally pulled a permit 7 MONTHS later, when I called them on it. Next, regarding the price of the work, I actually had to replace 2 furnaces at the same time, including this one. I replaced the same size and brand furnace (Goodman) at another property and it cost me $2500. Again, Royal Mechanical charged me $4000 plus the cost of the service trip to diagnose that I needed a new furnace (this is typically absorbed by any HVAC contractor, including the contractor that installed the same furnace for $2500. I called Royal Mechanical on this and gave them over 8 months to make the situation right. I provided a fair market estimate of the exact same furnace (which actually comes to $2000 including all labor and parts), after which a check for $400 was immediately issued without any communication. This was merely a check Royal Mechanical thought would make me drop the issue. When I refused to cash the check, I finally was able to talk to Cal at Royal Mechanical and again justified my case to him, in which the only response I recieved was "Hey, I don't take any jobs in which I don't make at least 30% profit - I didn't go to 8 years of school for nothin'"...THAT was the justification for gouging the price and taking advantage of the situation. Very unprofessional and very crooked business practices. Do not use this contractor, as their business practices are not justified and very dishonest.

Response from ROYAL MECHANICAL INC
As I have previously informed the Member, we gave a bid to install the furnace in the rental property. This contract was signed and approved. We provided this emergency service over a weekend, after hours which is billed accordingly. We also provided temporary heat for the property until the work was completed. I fail to see how Royal Mechanical has done a poor job. The city inspected the job and approved our work. The member initially paid the bill without question and now somehow thinks we owe him a refund.
