I was able to make an appointment within my time frame and the plumber, Jim, arrived shortly after the time scheduled. He was very personable and got right to work. He cleaned out the tub drain, improved the flow in the shower head and checked the bathroom sink drain. I like to ask questions and he answered them all with a smile. He left the area all cleaned up and I am very happy with the work performed. I would definitely call Norblom again. I didn't check prices on any other companies but I think it was fair.
Description of Work: My bathtub was clogged and draining slower and slower. My efforts with a plunger were no help. I suppose I could have tried taking out the drain and tried to clean it out myself, but you never know what you're going to encounter and I decided to call a professional.

Installer was very professional, courteous and on time for the appointment. Explained what needed to be done and the additional costs. Covered the carpet downstairs when bringing in the tank and removing the old one. Did leave a lot of solder balls around but those were easy to clean up. Otherwise very happy with the install and the new tank is working good. It was very expensive for the install. Since I bought at Sears I'm sure Sears is making a cut off the install amount. For the additional amount I actually wrote a check to Sears not Norblom. I got a great deal on the tank itself though so it balanced out. While I think the amount spend for the install was way too high I'm not going to ding Norblom too much since as I said I think Sears takes a cut. I would use them again in the future as the work was done on time and in a professional manner. If I didn't get such a great deal on the tank, I would just buy the tank and call Norblom on my own to get a quote for install.
Description of Work: Replaced a 50 gal 40,000 BTU natural gas hot water heater with a 65 gal 65,000 BTU natural gas hot water heater. I bought the tank at Sears and they contract with Norblom to do the install. I did not contact them directly. Price was $350 for basic install, $170 for >50 gal tank, $52 to replace the cold water shutoff valve, $68 to replace the whole house humidifier valve (old piercing one not to code), $100 for water line work. They also removed my old hot water heater.

THANKS! OUR PRICING CAN SOUND EXPENSIVE TO SOME, BUT THERE ARE COMPANIES OUT THERE THAT CHARGE MORE THAN US BY SOME MARGIN. WE HAVE NOT RAISED OUR LABOR PRICES FOR 2 1/2 YEARS DESPITE THE ECONOMY. IN FACT, WE HAVE REDUCED OUR WATER HEATER PRICING TO CHARGE ONLY FOR WHAT IS NEEDED. EITHER WAY, FOR A LICENSED PLUMBER, OUR INDUSTRY IS CERTAINLY EXPENSIVE AND WE ARE ON THE LOWER END OF THE PRICING SCALE FOR THIS MARKET. REMEMBER, AS ALWAYS, WE OFFER 10% OFF LABOR TO ANGIE'S LIST CUSTOMERS. ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS ASK FOR IT. THANKS AGAIN FOR THE NICE WORDS!

I had to spend a week home recuperating from surgery, so decided to look into finally getting a loose a toilet replaced. My husband was just sure that the flooring underneath was also rotten and that this would be a major project. I called Norblom on Thursday and they sent Chris our Friday morning. He pulled the old toilet, had to add a flange extension (the old toilet was not attached to the flange) installed the new toilet, and cleaned up in one hour and 40 minutes. I think at least 10 minutes could have been shaved off the time spent moving a hot water heater from one truck to another when a colleague showed up with the new toilet, but I wasn't going to quibble. Chris did the work in a very professional manner, showed me exactly what the problem was, and worked very efficiently. I would not hesitate to call this company again in the future. Price always seems higher than you think it should, but over all, I am very pleased with the results.

It went very smoothly. So smoothly there isn't really a story to tell. Alex was a pleasure to deal with, as were all the guys who did the work. They worked quickly, cleanly and efficiently. My new fixtures look great and work great. In the end, the wall repair took less time than estimated, so they cheerfully reduced the invoice. I'd recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Replacement of sink and toilet in the bathroom with new fixtures. They put me in touch with a sales rep at a showroom who was very helpful in finding a 14" rough-in toilet and a sink that coordinated with it. The fixtures were approx $800 of the cost. The rest went for labor spread over 3 visits. They had to remove a wall-mount sink and repair the wall before installing the new pedestal sink.

Pete and Chris did a fantastic job! I wanted my water heater moved to the laundry room as there was no drain where it was currently located. In addition, I wanted a water softener installed. Pete came out and quoted me a cost (which included the cost of the water heater as well as bringing the box for my washer up to code) warning me that there may be some damage to my ceiling tile because of the work they had to do and the tiles were tight with the pipes. When they came to do the work they laid down tarps to keep my carpet clean, checked in with me periodically during the day, verified where I wanted the water heater and water softener positioned, removed the existing water heater and capped off the connections, removed my laundry tub to make room, and in the end fully cleaned up after themselves (even wiping down some of my flooring). Oh, and the tile ended up not getting any damage. They were prompt, professional and friendly.
Description of Work: Norblom moved the water heater location from the furnace room to the laundry room, installed a new 50 gallon water heater, which was included in my cost, and installed a water softener which I purchased from Sears. In the process, they also removed and disposed of my laundry tub and old water heater. Lastly, they brought my washer box up to code.

They came out and gave me the estimate for the liner which I found to be reasonable. Todd and Kurt arrived on time for the install. Once they pulled the old line they found that my chimney had collapsed about half way down. They worked for 2.5 hours clearing debris for the install. I was very impressed with their professionalism and they did a great job patching the wall in my basement after the installation. I would recommend this company to anyone needing plumbing work or a chimney liner. See attached photo.

The entire process of estimating the work and performing the work was done in a timely manner. Cost was exactly what bid was. I paid $45 for the bid, but that amount was deducted when the work was done. Todd did the work and had a second man to help with the hauling of the tanks. He cleaned up well, and he lined his path to avoid making a mess. The city has not done the inspection yet, but I do not expect any problems. If there is anything to add to this report after the inspection, I will come back and add it. The city should be ready to do the inspection in a week or two.

We called Norblom to ask for help with water draining into the basement. They sent Joe out to do an estimate. Joe explained very clearly what needed to be done and said that it would be best to do time and materials job. We said that we'd like him to do the job; where-after, he called his shop to request a time that he'd be available for 4-6 hours and scheduled us for the day after that day. He explained that we could wait until we were ready to do the job, but that we should use our sink minimally. He then performed the work described above. As he was working, he called us down for consultation on what he was finding when needed. He worked fast, cleaned up after himself, and left a nice cement finish on the basement floor. He was very pleasant and the price very reasonable. I would definitely use Norblom again for diverse plumbing needs.
Description of Work: We had a problem with water coming through the floor into the basement when we drained water in our kitchen sink. Joe broke up floor in basement where kitchen sink drain line goes through floor & found a mission band (wrong one) that was leaking & also cast had rotted on bottom side. Jeff also came and used a tool to test the integrity of the cast iron pipe. Joe kept pulling old pipe out until he found pipe that was still good and could be clamped on to. He replaced approximately 3' of 2" cast iron with 2" PVC. After he finished, he cleaned up very neatly and patched the floor with cement. Also, he snaked the drain line.

In fact, he did discover a leaky fitting that he felt was most likely responsible for the water damage. He said we could open up the ceiling, but he suggested waiting: that would be quite a bit more expensive, and he was reasonably confident he'd found the issue -- in fact he did and corrected it! He also took the time to show me how to bleed air out of the radiator system, as well as how to re-fill the furnace's water heater. (We actually had a lot of air in our system, so we'll likely be saving some $$ on heating costs now that our system is working a lot more efficiently. Overall it was a very positive experience. The master plumber patiently explained our options, what the problem was, and how we could perform our own yearly maintenance in the future. Great job!
Description of Work: I own an older (1920's era) house with cast-iron radiators. We had some leakage from the second floor that was causing water damage in the first floor's ceiling. Initially I thought a pipe had sprung a leak inside the wall or above the ceiling. Norblom's master plumber came out and first suggested we look at the actual radiator in the room above the ceiling to make sure there wasn't any water leaking from any of its fittings: if we were lucky, that's where the problem would be and there wouldn't be any need to tear into the ceiling to try to get at hidden pipes.

Excellent work. Very professional and fast. We chose Norblom even though they were not the lowest bid. We chose them because their bid was very detailed. We knew exactly what work was being performed. No problems scheduling; they came out on the day we scheduled. We worked with Alex and he answered all of our questions before the work began. The employees were about 1/2 hour late, but they finished the entire job in one day. I think it was a small miscommunication on the start time. We had one little problem when they connected the new water lines to the 1st floor bath. They ran the lines to the toilet through the floor, which was fine. But when they disconnected the existing lines which were in the wall, it left an open hole in our tiled wall. We have a toddler and wanted them to cover it with something. All they had was duck tape. We will now have to find a permanent fix on our own.
Description of Work: Demo existing galvanized water supply piping in basement and replaced with copper, replaced laundry tub faucet, wash machine valves and supplies. Installed a new shut off valve and supply to new outside faucet, as well as existing outside faucet. Replaced house side water meter valve. Connected new water lines to 1st floor bath, kitchen, water heater, outside faucets and copper main from meter.

When the plumber arrived he wasn't very pleasant to deal with. He was upset that he had not been told all the work he had to do ahead of time (even though I told it to the person who picked up the phone) and was not in a good mood during the repair. He did an excellent job in doing the repairs/installation. Also, they billed me without the Angie's discount coupon even though I had asked for it originally. I had to make a couple calls back to get my invoice readjusted.

It went well. Doug W. gave estimate and described what the work would include. Jim, the plumber, arrived on time (7:30 am), pleasant. Installed faucet, but not to Doug's suggestions. Asked Jim to complete as Doug said, and he did. 3 hours. When I cleaned dishes I noticed that the hot/cold were switched around and brought it to his attention. Jim wasn't inclined to fix it unless I insisted. I did, and he did. Loved sink drain, but cost not in original bid price. In basement, Jim replaced the rotten cast iron pipes from the bathroom above, and redid the drains to each of the sinks (they shared one line before). The pipes were pretty rank and nasty. Not much fell on the floor, but what did I ended up cleaning myself, including on some of my exposed wood (where the nasty stuff sank in). This last clean-up part was the most disappointing - because I realized that he hadn't moved stuff out of the way (or asked me to move it, like the cat's food) which I had forgotten to move.

I got a new head for the sink in the kitchen from Kohler for $50 and the improvement is amazing! Doug came out and did all the work exactly like it was bid and charged exactly the same amount as the bid. Everything was done expertly and competently and cleaned up afterwards. The pressure in the house is better and now we have the correct shut off for the outside faucet for the winter and a new line for the humidifier part of the furnace.
Description of Work: I called because of the poor water pressure we had in our house which seemed to be getting worse and worse. Pete came out to give us a bid and located a small leak in the pipe right above the water meter. He bid to replace the line from the meter out to the faucet in the back yard. The kitchen pressure was the worst and he recommended I call Kohler and get a replacement head for the pull out faucet.

We will not be using their services again.
Description of Work: I had purchased a gas water heater to replace our existing gas water heater, which was clearly on its way out. I called Norblom Plumbing and they came the following morning. The plumber said that they could not do the install because the location of the water heater was in a restroom, which they claim did not meet code. The city office where I live said the code stated only pertained to new home installation, and we were grandfathered in. Upon calling this plumber back, they would not refund their $75.00 fee, or work on our heater without a letter from the city saying it would be ok. I called another plumbing company, and was told that the code referred to new houses only, and they repeated what our city had said. Norblom plumbing still would not refund our $75.00. Norblom Plumbing wanted us to research the city and state codes which they should already be farmiliar with. Needless to say, we were not impressed with Norblom Plumbing.

THIS IS AN UNFORTUNATE SITUATION, HOWEVER, WE FIND THAT THIS POOR REPORT ON OUR COMPANY IS UNFAIR. WE DID CHARGE THE MEMBER A TRIP CHARGE OF $75 AS WE WERE UNABLE TO INSTALL THE WATER HEATER BECAUSE OF THE MAJOR CODE VIOLATION IN THE MEMBERS HOME. THE STATE OF MN CODE BOOK IN SECTION 303.3 STATES: “PROHIBITED LOCATIONS-APPLIANCES SHOULD NOT BE LOCATED IN, OR OBTAIN COMBUSTION AIR FROM ANY OF THE FOLLOWING ROOMS: SLEEPING ROOMS, BATHROOMS, TOILET ROOMS, STORAGE CLOSETS, SURGICAL ROOMS.” THIS APPLIES TO BOTH NEW AND EXISTING BUILDINGS, NOT JUST NEW AS IS STATED BY THE MEMBER. THE CITY OF NEW HOPE WAS WRONG AND SINCE THIS REPORT, HAS EVEN STATED THEY WERE WRONG, WITH ONLY 1 EXCEPTION: IF, THE BATHROOM WHEN ORIGINALLY INSTALL WAS PASSED BY INSPECTION, THEY WOULD ALLOW THE INSTALL AS IT WOULD BE GRANDFATHERED IN. IF IT DID NOT PASS INSPECTION, THEY WILL HAVE TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO THE HOME. THE CITY WILL BE INVESTIGATING THE CURRENT INSTALL. OUR PLUMBER FOR NORBLOM FOLLOWED THE CORRECT PROCEDURE TO CHARGE FOR THE TIME AT THE HOME, HOWEVER, WE WERE WILLING TO SPLIT THAT COST IF THEY WOULD HAVE ONLY GOTTEN A WRITTEN VARIANCE FROM THE CITY BECAUSE SIMPLY, WE WANTED TO DO THE JOB. THAT IS WHY WE ARE IN BUSINESS. IF THE MEMBER WOULD STILL LIKE TO RESOLVE THIS, PLEASE CALL US. IT SEEMED AS IF THE CUSTOMER NEVER GAVE US THAT CHANCE. HAPPY AND RAVING CUSTOMERS ARE OUR LIFE BLOOD. WE ALWAYS WANT OUR CUSTOMERS TO BE BETTER THAN HAPPY!

They worked very quickly (probably from using the Pex pipe), and kept us on schedule. The framer couldnt build the portions until the water heater was moved, and the plumber couldnt rough-in the supply lines until the framing was in place. Both accommodated the other so it was all done well and on time.
