Norbloom is very easy to schedule with. They are ontime and prompt and do good work. My only issue would be that at $94 per half hour, this seems higher than the twin cities average to me. I selected Norbloom because of their rankings on Angie's List. They did not disappoint on service in any way.

I called and made an appointment for 8:30 the next day, was told nominal price for a water heater install was $400, plus $70 for a permit (and inspection) from the city. (Having looked at what other folks on the list typically paid for this, about $1000, I knew the actual price would be higher!) The next morning I came back from dropping my child off at daycare at 8:10 to find a Norblom truck waiting in front of my house, the plumber inside organizing his tools. He'd thought the appointment was for 8:00, but called in to the office and learned it was for 8:30; he was making good use of the wait time, and was in a fine mood despite the mix-up. I let him in and he quickly assessed the work, informing me that my new model was a "tall" and the old a "short," meaning that the existing vent plumbing would not work. A new vent would require a new hole in the chimney, a $330 proposition. The plumber described my options and explained the pros and cons in a very balanced way, not taking advantage of the situation to try to sell me something I didn't want. I considered returning the unit I'd bought, but didn't want to haul it back. Water heaters from Norblom (which could have been delivered and installed in the same timeframe, that morning) cost more than $330 more than I paid, so it made more sense to me to install the one I had, and have the option in the future of installing a tall or short unit with minimal extra plumbing. To bring the new installation up to code, a new gas valve and some other minor things needed to be installed. Where possible, the old piping and plumbing was recovered and re-used (something I'm all for). The plumber let me watch him work and ask questions as he went along. As an amateur plumber, I feel in a good position to say he did superb work, and really knew what he was doing. He made it look easy at every step along the way. (Hopefully the city inspector will agree.) Having worked with this company before and based on what I read on Angie's List, I did not ask for an advance estimate. I also didn't solicit the "going rate" quoted on the phone, but was appreciative to have had it offered. I thought it should include a disclaimer, though, something like "usually more, to bring everything up to current code as required by law." The day of the appointment the plumber clearly laid out how much it would cost, and what he would do, before starting. That was great. The plumber's name was Todd and if you call Norblom and he's available for what you need, I highly recommend him. His specialty is chimney work, including new liners, but I'd trust him to do most anything.
Description of Work: Installed new gas water heater I purchased from Menards, replacing the old one. Required code updates to gas piping and a new connection to the chimney liner through the chimney wall. I hauled out and disposed of the old heater myself (disposal of such items is included in the City's normal garbage service fee in Minneapolis).

I was very impressed with Norblom. Steve initially came out for the estimate call, which was not fruitful since none of the plumbing was visible. He gave me an idea of what costs could be depending on the problem. Darin actually performed the work over a period of two days with two assistants. After opening up kitchen ceiling and walls to reveal plumbing, it was determined that there was a crack in the main stack as well as a rusted drain from the tub. Because we had just remodeled our bathroom, Darin and his guys had to create holes in the wall in the guest bedroom, in the upstairs landing, and in the kitchen. He explained all of the problems and gave me several options. I decided to fix the immediate problem with the tub drain and the stack as well as have all new lines installed for the lavatory, tub, and drain. It made sense to take care of all current and future problems since everything was now accessible. I thought that Darin and his guys worked efficiently, and they cleaned up their mess each day. I thought that the lengths that they went to in order to protect our new tile work was incredible, and they even cleaned up the mess in the tub that we had left. We have been using the new bathroom for over a week now and haven't noticed any problems. When we redo our kitchen, we will definitely use Norblom to fix the hidden horrors that I'm sure we'll find.

After calling 4 other plumbers and getting estimates over the phone, I got ahold of Norblom and not only were they the least expensive, but they could squeeze me in immediately! 18 minutes after I hung up the phone they were at my door, and an hour later the project was complete. I took photos of shower area and sent them out to bid via email (using addresses from Angie's List) on a Saturday. Mike at Norblom called me at 9:15 am the next Monday to discuss job. Given Norblom's excellent List reputation, this was not too surpising. Anyway, we settled on procedures and scheduled appt for Friday 7:30 am. In many case, including mine, Norblom charges for time on job and parts. This is fair to all since some jobs can obviously entail more or less than expected. The bid was "between $500 and $700". Incidentally, my brother-in-law is a Master Plumber in Boston and told us he'd charge about $700 for the job. I selected parts (ie, value) via web and sent choice to Mike. The value price was $225; they can range from $150 - $500 or so. Mike and I further discussed the need for more 2x4 bracing. There was some slight confusion here, which I dare say was due to Mike's understanding and communication. This was the only negative in our interaction. Jim P arrived at 7:40 am and went right to work. He had correct (ie, ordered) parts. Jim explained exactly what he proposed to do and checked if I agreed. I did. The work was performed in a timely fashion and with great skill. Jim and I chatted about plumbing and hockey but he kept working. I was delighted that Jim showed me how to "trim out" the value myself so he didn't have to return to do it (I wanted to save myself money and he was happy to help me do so). He charged us for 2.25 hours which was exactly the amount of time my digital watch indicated he was on site. Overall, the experience was superb. I highly recommend Norblom and Jim P. in particular. I doubt this company is least expensive but it is surely not most expensive. One gets what they pay for and Norblom provided us excellent service at a fair price. I will now use Norblom and Jim P as "our plumber".
Description of Work: We needed to replace an old two-handle shower value with a modern single value. Being a competent DIY-er, I removed the existing and rotting tile wall in shower and cleaned area myself, revealing 2x4 structure and such. I also planned to install new backer-board and tile myself. We simply needed a plumber to install valve.

I called Norblom plumbing this morning and they were able to send someone today. Todd was very courteous and prompt. He got right to work and inspected the water heater. Turns out that only the pilot light was out. Todd got it working again and let me know what to do in case it happened again. I figured that it was a 15 year old water heater and that it was going to need to be replaced. Todd didn't think that was the case so I was very happy that I only had a $94 bill instead of $1400. Todd did not try to push a new water heater on me at all. He was very professional. When I do need a new water heater, I will be calling Norblom. They were great!

They first responded to an email inquiry at 11pm at night, including pricing details so I could research options. Next morning after also getting quote from Sears I decided they seemed more reputable and they were able to send top notch plumber to house the same morning along with exact model I had selected. They did it for agreed upon price exactly, no surprises, and in fact they installed an additional valve they thought might come in handy and did not charge for it.

The response was great. They responded within 24 hours(this wasn't an emergency). He replaced the leaking sillcock, the pipe from the existing back to the shutoff(it wasn't code)and he replaced the shutoff valve. I also asked for some pricing on a couple other services for future work and he was prompt with his estimates. Total duration for the service call was two hours. The total was $457 of which $320 was labor. I little high for labor costs, but Norblom does great work.

We called at approximately 11 am and within a 1/2 hour Amy had emailed us a quote with four different water heater options, plus all potential costs that could occur. I had several questions for her and she was very knowledgeable and was able to answer everything clearly. By 1 pm, we decided to go with them. Not only were they the most reasonable, they provided everything in writing and were very prompt. They did not have the water heater we wanted in stock, but were able to get it and send someone out at 7:30 am the next morning. Had we opted for a similar model, we would have been able to have it done the same day, but we didn't mind. Mark arrived the next morning right at 7:30. He was very polite and professional. He promptly went to work and laid out drop cloths...he worked quickly and efficiently. He was also very quiet (I had a sleeping baby in the house....which he didn't know....but I was just surprised that he could install and remove a very heavy water heater w/o making a ton of noise). He even told me what a "mystery" vent was outside that had nothing to do with the water heater. Once he was finished, he explained things to me very simply, but without talking down to me. The work done was performed at exactly the quote they indicated. No surprise charges, so appreciated. I definitely would go with them again!

Called because we needed the gas shut off valve replaced in order to sell the house (St. Louis Park). Also, the SLP inspector could not locate the valve for the basement stove. I called and they dispatched a plumber the same day who got the job done. The rates seemed high but the plumber got the job done in the minimum 1/2 hour time so no complaints about the overall price. We were very happy with the responsiveness, job done and overall price. The price also included pulling the permit from the city.

The technician arrived on time, was very professional and performed the job quick. The costs were by the hour (94 for first 1/2 hour, 34 for each addtl. 15min), which sounds pretty scary if the technician takes his time. So I bled the water line beforehand and he got done in 30 mins.

We called three different plumbers to come out to our house to give us a quote on replacing our galvanized pipes and also to quote out adding a bathroom to our basement (which we decided not to do at this time). Steve Morse came out to look at the project and arrived on time. We talked with him about what we were interested in and he spent over an hour checking things out. We found him to be very through. Steve emailed us the quote and we found it to be very competitive. The proposal was much more detailed than the others we had received. The recommended materials were PEX pipes. We scheduled the galvanized pipe replacement with Steve and two plumbers came out to do the work. The guys were very nice and professional. The work areas were cleaned up nicely at the conclusion of the project. We asked about the water pressure being lower in our kitchen sink and they took a look at the hose to the sink and cleaned it out for us before leaving, even though it was 6:00 PM. Our experience with Steve Morse and the plumbers from Norblom was very positive. We would certainly use them again.

I called them on Saturday morning after I realized that my water heater was leaking and that it was past the end of its life. I was given a quote on the phone and an ETA for the service person. The tech looked at the old heater and discussed the job with me. He then proceeded to disconnect and remove the old heater and install the new one. It went very smoothly and took a few hours total. The heater was about $900 which seems like almost twice what it should be. I needed to have a working heater and I was not sure about the cost so I went with it anyway. The $50 Angie's List coupon helped a little.

I contacted Norblom after hours due to an emergency plumbing leak. Left a message and got a call back within minuted. Told us there would be an after hours charge, and helped us make changes so we could handle overnight. Promptly called us the following morning, were flexible to our schedule, and professionally fixed the leak and additionally cleared a slow drain. And the price we paid was reasonable for the supplies and amount of time they were here. We trusted Angies list as we had never used this plumber before, and we were not disappointed. We will use them again.
