I'm not home when they come and my wife has dealt with them. I have been very satisfied with them in every way, as far as calling them for scheduling for work to be done. They are a very good company and easy to work with. They offer a reasonable price, but I haven't dealt with a lot of plumbers. The company I work for uses them. They didn't make a mess and the job looked nice when they were done. They are very responsive.
Description of Work: I used Norblom Plumbing to fix a sink that was coming loose from the wall. They also replaced a couple of faucets.

We are not too sure why we are getting such a bad review from this member. This order was from over two years ago. Based on our notes on the order: The member first called us after hours and left a message. We immediately returned the call. The member was worried about how extremely high the temperature was on the water coming out of his water heater. Being an electric water heater, we advised him to turn off his circuit breaker and schedule service, or, since the unit was sold old, invest that service call money into a new unit. We quoted to replace their current unit for $789.99. The customer wanted to call around for prices. Three days later, we received an order from CenterPoint Energy as we are an authorized contractor. The customer ordered a unit for $1,300. We went out and installed the unit as quoted and there were no extra charges. So, we are baffled. This news of having a completely bad experience from us is confusing. 1) Price; we received grade of "F" despite offering a price quote that was $500 less than what was installed by CenterPoint Energy. 2) Quality; we received grade of "F" despite at no time did we receive any word regarding poor quality; not from the member directly, or the company that sold the water heater to the member, CenterPoint Energy. 3) Responsiveness; we received grade of "F" despite calling this customer back on a Friday evening immediately after receiving his message. 4) Punctuality; we received grade of "F" despite the member requesting and afternoon installation time. We arrived at 1:38pm. 5) Professionalism; we received grade of "F" again, despite at no time did we receive any word regarding poor professionalism, not from the member directly, or the company that sold the water heater to the member, CenterPoint Energy. ***Since this report, we have called the customer several times to discuss the situation and possibly rectify any issues. Again, we are very puzzled about this as we are hearing about this now despite the work being done over two years ago. We are a family owned business that relies solely on word of mouth for advertising to new customers. We do not want “any” unhappy customers. We do quality work, at reasonable prices within the market and we stand behind our work. Thank you to all of our past customers! Without you, we would not be in business, that is the reason we are here, to serve you. Please call us as we will deliver “professional and personalized plumbing solutions” to all of our customers!

Everything went very well. The woman I spoke with on the phone recommended a new water heater when I told her how old my existing one was, which was what I expected. She described several water heaters to determine my preference (cheapest vs. energy efficient vs. top-of-the-line), gave me a price quote (which I thought was just for the heater but turned out to include labor and everything else) and told me a plumber would arrive sometime between 9:30-11:30 the same day. He arrived at 9:20, and though he wasn't particularly friendly, he explained what needed to be done to make the install up to code and how much each would cost above the quote I had already received and then got down to work. I was worried about the mess of hauling out the old heater and getting the new one in and down my my carpeted basement stairs, but the plumber and the delivery guy put down a cover and cleaned up the floor afterward. Once the install was complete, the plumber went over the new heater with me and pointed out a couple other (minor) plumbing issues he had discovered (e.g., the main water shut-off didn't completely shut off the water). Final price was exactly as he had quoted beforehand and was very competitive with what I know a neighbor recently paid for a new water heater and install. Overall, the entire transaction was quick, smooth and easy, and based on this experience I would highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: Discovered that my 22-year-old water heater was leaking one evening. Called Norblom at 7:30 the following morning. By 9:30, a plumber was at my house, and by 11:30 a new energy efficient water heater was in and the old one hauled away with no mess left behind. The plumber also installed a larger vent according to code and replaced corroded pipes at galvanized/copper joints.

A bit late of a late start (for the first appt of the day, I think; 8 a.m.), but only about 15 minutes late. Otherwise, he was in quickly setting up, clearing the obstruction, and replacing two parts. Explained everything and was professional and quick throughout. Would definitely use again for smaller jobs.

We asked Norblom plumbing to come over to give us a quote on a tankless water heater because we thought we had a leak in our current water heater. Once they arrived, I explained we had been told we had a leak and due to new specifications we could not replace our water heater with the same model. I asked for confirmation on this and the first plumber agreed that we could not repalce with the same model, but came up with multiple other options for us. Once the installing plumber came, he changed the plans once again. He made some alterations and was able to replace with the same model. We thought we were happy since we hadn't had to pay $5000 for a tankless. However when the leak was still there on Saturday and Norblom returned and told us the water heater had never been the leak we were far from being happy. According to the owner, because we asked Norblom out for a replacement quote and not a diagnosis we were stuck. I, however, feel once it became apparent (ie. within the first 5 minutes of the visit) that this was not something we were just trying to upgrade it becomes the plumber's resposibility to make a diagnosis and not take the word of the previous plumber. If this were a dr, he would be sued for malpractice if he were to take the word of the patient and or another dr and just start treating. Norblom was aware we were under the assumption we had a leak and skipped out on their responsibility and took the word of another plumber and cost us $600.
Description of Work: Replaced a perfectly good water heater.

On 9/11/09, we were called and asked if we install tankless water heaters. The member explained that they were given a quote of $6,000 from another company as they could not replace their existing tank style unit due to space/code issues. I replied that we could install one for between $3K-4K without seeing the job. If you want an exact quote, we would need to visit. Our project manager arrived on 9/14/09 and discovered that they could indeed replace with a tank style unit. When the installing plumber arrived on 9/18/09, he discovered that, based on the past installation notes, the current unit was under warranty and could be replaced with the exact same model that was there for only the cost of labor; a savings of almost $550. The installer completed the installation which was on a Friday. On Saturday, 9/15, we were called because the new unit was still leaking. We did not hesitate to send a plumber to investigate. After he investigated, he discovered that the condensate line on the furnace was leaking and it was not the water heater. The customer called the following Monday, 9/17 to complain about the situation. Up until our plumber had found a leak on the condensate, the customer was very happy with everything we had done for them. Of course, we felt bad because we replaced a water heater that was in working order. Looking back at all of our documentation, not once were we asked to diagnose any plumbing leak. We are not doctors, as the member made an example of, we are plumbers. We were not asked to look around, diagnose the members plumbing system, and make assessments as per necessary. We were asked to give a quote for a tankless water heater to compete against another contractors quote. We did this and we found a less expensive option for the member. We performed the job with excellent customer service and quality craftsmanship. After all is said and done, the water heater we replaced, turned out to not be under warranty. That water heater cost us about $395.37 of which we did not get any compensation. We did not contact the customer to ask for this as this was our mistake for not checking the serial number in advance. But now, after 6 months, the member wants their money back for a service the member requested and we provided. We did not make a mistake here and it is very disheartening that after we provided an excellent service, the member now grades us very poorly in the following categories: PRICE D (Based on the request, we saved the customer over $4,400 from another plumbers quote. QUALITY D (there has not been one mention of any of our plumbers delivering poor quality) Responsiveness D (we were very quick to provide quote, replace the unit, even coming back on a Saturday at no charge to follow-up on the original problem that the member did not ask us to look into in the first place) Professionalism D (again, we have been forthright in everything the member asked of us.) We are always striving to improve on our customer service as it is the root of our business. If we do not deliver great customer service, we do not exist as a company…Period. The residential service business is very tough at times. We have a great track record with Angie’s List and we are very proud of this. We do the best we can to make each and every member happy, but sometimes, no matter what we do, it is not possible. I would like to thank all of our great past customers…you do not know how grateful we are to have you and we will always be there for you when you need us and we will exceed your expectations as we have for all of our past customers for over 90 years! I am incredibly displeased with my entire experience. I called on Monday, and was able to make an appointment for Wednesday afternoon. The person who answered the call let me know my appointment was from 2-4:00 pm on Wednesday. I asked specifically if the work took longer than two hours, would the tech quit at 4:00, or continue on? I was told the tech would finish the job, and there would be no overtime charges. The person quoted me about 1.5 - 2.0 hours, and estimated around $350 for the job. At 2:05 pm on Wednesday, I called the company, and the same person answered the phone. I asked him if the tech would be out before 2:30, as I had a conference call at that time, and would not be able to work with him on the job. He let me know the tech would be out around 2:45. I asked whether anyone planned to call me to let me know, and he explained that the appointment was a 2 hour window, not expected to start at 2:00 pm. He apologized for miscommunicating to me that the tech would be there BETWEEN 2 and 4:00 pm. He said, "It's my fault for not communicating that. I mis-stated it." I explained that I would need to be on a conference call when the tech arrived, since this was not what I had planned for. He said that would be fine. The tech arrived at 2:45 pm. He was friendly, and understanding about my need to be on a conference call. I quickly showed him around, and he began work, but said we'd have to talk about the gas line. When I was off my call, he told me that the gas line required a permit, and could not be completed, only roughed-in. I would need to have them come out again after, with ANOTHER permit, to finish the installation with a valve. He estimated his work for Wednesday to be about 2 hours, then getting a permit, plus another $200+ to come back and finish the esimation. This is almost twice the cost I was originally quoted. I asked him to proceed with only the water line. I asked why the person who originally quoted me hadn't explained any of this. He said "He wouldn't know." Five minutes later, he came to tell me that the shutoff valve for my external water had broken, and he'd have to replace it. I said "great", until he explained that it would cost me $30 for parts, plus the 15 minute charge he'd have to add to fix it. He "isn't responsible for old equipment breaking." I have just gotten off the phone with Mike. Mike is the manager. When I explained the entire situation to Mike, he let me know that this was not their fault. He said "you told me the ceiling was open, and could be run directly into the kitchen." I explained, it still could. I explained what the tech told me, that "all lines in Eden Prairie need a permit, and he said you wouldn't know." Mike told me that wasn't true, if it was a short run, this wasn't needed. I again explained I could only go on what the tech told me, and that another trip would be required. Mike finally admitted this was his fault, he should have let me know this was a possibility to need a permit. He offered me a "discount" for having the plumber come back out. He said he would waive the trip charge, and it would be as if we had just continued the same appointment. I explained to Mike that this is not a discount, because if he had provided me the proper information the first time, we wouldn't have needed a second trip. Therefore, he was actually just offering me what I should have had in the first place. I explained that he should now also be compensating for the fact that this has turned into an inconvenience, of needing to be home from work, and taking additional time to do the work. I explained to Mike that I would be filling out an Angie's List report, and he said he would also fill his out, and "chalk this up to a misunderstanding." I explained this wasn't a misunderstanding, that he had already admitted fault twice, therefore, it was a mistake. He yelled that this was a misunderstanding, that he had already explained what happened and offered me a "discount", interrupted me multiple times, and would not allow me to speak. I asked to speak with a manager, and he said he was the manager, and there was no one else that could help me. It's unfortunate that poor management will ruin this experience. The plumber was a nice guy, and understanding about the fact that I was upset about the permit conversation. I explained it wasn't his fault, and paid him the $258 to install the water line. I will never hire this company again.
Description of Work: I received an estimate for a gas line and water line run from my basement laundry room, directly up into the kitchen, for a new refridgerator and range. Work performed was just to run the water line from the basement to the kitchen, and to replace a valve that broke while the technician was working on it.

We thank you for the business. It is unfortunate you had such a poor experience. We are not sure why it was so bad that your ratings of “f” in every category was warranted. We want to deliver exceptional service to all of our customers including this member. The member called for some work and asked about our pricing, which is listed on our Angie’s List profile; “Cost is determined by time & material for service”. The member described the type of work she wanted and wanted a guess on the time needed. Based on her description and without being on the jobsite, we “guessed” 1.5-2 hours of time. We gave a window of time of 2-4pm & the plumber arrived at exactly 2:38pm. Well within the two hour time frame we quoted. After assessing the job, he explained there was extra work needed. Unfortunately, this is something we cannot see thru a phone line. The member chose not to have the work done on this but still wanted the water line for the icemaker. It only took 45 minutes, an average time. The bummer, the “old” main water shutoff did not reopen after the plumber turned it off. Contractors in general cannot be held responsible for “existing” equipment breaking. (all he did was turn the valve off and it broke) The plumber was able to replace that very quickly, 20 minutes, well under average time. The total time for the work was only 1:05. That’s all the member paid for. The member also states that the manager admitted fault about the time frame & the extra work needed for the gas line. The member, unfortunately, fails to realize that any quotes over the phone are not binding. Norblom Plumbing uses “time & material” pricing & the member knew this. Why is the member upset with the manager when all he was trying to do was help? The manager never “yelled” and was apologizing for any miscommunication. This was a misunderstanding of what was actually needed to do the work and what was “actually” described via the phone. If the member wanted a specific price, she should have asked for someone out for an “exact” estimate? More and more often we are finding customers want the best service and the best products, but they do not want to pay for it. We pride ourselves on quality service at an affordable rate. Our ratings on Angie’s List is very good. We are very proud of that. I am not even sure that we gave this customer poor service, but yet, she wanted to make sure we knew that a bad report would go on our record. Unfortunately, this reply is our only defense to describe what actually took place. This member complained about being “yelled” at. This never happened. In fact, the conversation was very professional despite the disagreement as to what took place. The member was pleasant to interact with, she just did never understood what was described on the phone as the best guess we can make for how long it would take to do the work based on the info given. We did offer discounts to the customer but the customer did not see this as an attempt to make the customer happy. This member did not say anything bad about the quality of the work, even complimented the plumber and how nice he was, but still, gave an “F” rating for quality??? Like the member stated, we “will” chalk this up to a misunderstanding and in the future, we will not make the same miscommunication mistakes. We will do our best to explain that any “phone” quotes are just that, a “phone” quote and our eyes cannot see thru that phone line. We will make sure that future customers understand that when a plumber arrives, what was described to us over the “phone” by a member and what is actually in a members home, could be different and require something the member never thought of. We will continue to deliver exceptional service in the plumbing industry. We will not be deterred by those customers that make it hard to earn an honest living in such a tough market. We understand we have lost this member for any future work, but for the work we did perform, we will stand behind it like we always do. We thank you for bring this to our attention, we will certainly learn from this misunderstanding and provide better communication with our future customers.

They have come out to install 2 water heaters. We had a pipe break behind the dishwasher on the Thanksgiving evening. They came and replaced all the piping under the sink and behind the dishwasher down till the downstairs area. They have done a number of things for us and we have been very pleased with their service. They are prompt and they are responsive when we call. I think their prices are in line, but they do really good work. The plumbers are always very knowledgeable and they know what they are doing. We are just pleased with them.

Very good experience. I called to ask questions about water heater and which models qualified for any energy rebates. Person on other end of the phone was knowledgable and answered all my detailed questions about types, size, etc. He suggested the best model that would qualify for the Center Point energy rebate. Scheduled appointment next day. Installer, Mark, showed up on time and was very pleasant to work with. Removed old leaking 40 gallon water heater and installed 50 gallon. Cleaned up after himself. Did charge an extra $115 to change the plumbing to fit the different size tank. This extra charge wasn't explained over the phone. Paperwork could have been a little more complete to describe tank model for rebate paperwork.

Water heater: The work was done quickly and competently. Their pricing was very competitive, and I really appreciated that they pulled the permit. I did not know that this was work that required a permit. My one quibble is that I had to ask the person on the phone what options they had that qualified for the Energy Star appliance rebate. She gave me a bunch of options to start with, none of which related to the rebate.

The problems were all dealt with very well and in a timely fashion.
Description of Work: First, they were able to schedule me same day. Second, they were prompt, which I feel is important. And, most impressive, they contacted the city I live in to coordinate having the water shut off so they could begin the work without any delay. The main water shutoff valve had to be replaced, and a pinhole leak in a copper pipe had to be repaired in avery trying spot . All was performed very well, and the plumber was really good to work with. And finally, I felt the pricing was fair. I definitely would recommend this company to anyone.

After a few days, I noticed a lot of water has leaked under the kitchen sink. Called them, they came and fixed it. They had told me if the problem was their fault, the second service call will be free, and if the device is defective, I will be charged. The repair man told me a washer (of the device) was to blame, hence, charging me for the second visit. I have no way of knowing if the fault was with the device or his installation in the first place, and hence I trust his word. But at least I expected him to have thoroughly checked for leakage on the first visit (e.g., by wrapping a towel around the pipes instead of visually inspecting them after the work was done) On the positive side, I originally asked him to place the system in the basement and route the pipes to the kitchen sink, but he noticed that he could place the tank and the filtering deveice behind the kitchen sink on the corner of the kitchen (he opened up the back of the cabinet under the sink). As a result of this, he saved me money (it would have taken longer to install it in the basement)
Description of Work: Installed a reverse-osmosis filtering system under kitchen sink, plus fixed a bathrm faucet.

Mike showed up on time for the original call. We were initially planning on replacing the gas water heater with another gas water heater. Upon Mike's visit we learned that building codes had changed and the replacement was going to require additional structural work. Mike helped us understand all our options. We ended up deciding to go with an electric water heater and this would require an electrician as well. Norblom was just as accomodating and prompt on the second visit when the water heater was installed.

Andy arrived on time at 8 AM and began the de-install of the old water heater. A bit later, Mike showed up for the remainder of the morning to assist. By noon, the old water heater was on their truck and they had the holes cut through my foundation for the vents. A dedicated gas line had to be run because of the high BTU requirements at maximum flow and Andy had that and the water connections completed by mid-afternoon. The air supply lines were installed and the unit was tested. Andy then gave me a walk-through of how it functions and the main components of the unit (it's much more complicated than a simple tank water heater). He cleaned up all the mess made during the work, and everything was done by 3:30 PM. I was very satisfied with his (and Mike's) knowledge and workmanship.
Description of Work: Replaced a 30 year old tank water heater with a 98% efficient Navien 240A tankless water heater. Disconnected an removed the old water heater, ran a new high pressure gas line and regulator to the Navien water heater, made the access to through my sidewall for supply and exhaust air, got everything working and tested and gave me overview training on how the unit works.

The day we were to leave on vacaton, I noticed leaking under the kitchen sink..there was a huge puddle. I had ordered a new faucet becuase I thought that was the problem but procrastinated in getting it installed. I didn't want to leave the house-sitter with this problem. Norblom was extremely responsive, getting someone out to install the faucet within hours of my call. Additionally, the plumber noted a cracked pipe and problems wiht the shut-off valve position and was able to correct those problems as well as install the faucet - all for close to the same amount as the original estimate for installing the faucet. He got to work immediately, did a fabulous job and really checked to make sure everything was ok. He was more thorough than any other plumber I've ever had come to the house and at a very good price. And I was able to leave for vacation on time with a clear mind.

Jim is excellent! Very professional and friendly and completes quality work EVERYTIME I've had him to the house to do work. He helped us cap off water and remove sink, shower wall that had the faucet, toilet and laundry tub. We're in the middle of demo work in the basement and needed this to complete the demo of the bathroom.

Mike was very helpful on the phone. When I asked for a 40 gallon heater and then realized I had a 50 gallon, they changed the order the day of the installation even though I didn't give them all the info. They really changed gears fast on what was my mistake. They were later than they had planned, but well within the window I was given, due to traffic but they told me that and apologized several times. They did a nice job and cleaned up well and explained details to me. I thought they were great to work with as others had noted on the List. That is why I picked them.
