I went with another plumber listed on AL who came in at $250 for the entire job.
Description of Work: Emailed company for an estimate and was told project manager would need to come out to check out the job. Was told to contact him directly, so I did. He told me he could not come out for an estimate as he coaches hockey and therefore could not meet with me after 4 pm. He additionally stated that he would probably not do a site visit for this estimate in any case and asked for some details that I provided. I then received a quote for a job that he estimated would take 5-8 hours. Price was $190 for the first hour and $45 for each additional 15 minutes plus materials. That comes to $910-$1450 plus materials.

* Our original Angie's List Plumber disbanded and we turned to Norblom Plumbing as our new turn-to * As part of a whole-basement renovation we contacted Norblom and began the process of working with Steve Morse, Project Manager for the company * Steve patiently worked with us through the earliest stages of planning and permitting for the entire basement project and the various phases which would take place * As built, the home was plumbed with copper, cast iron and galvanized piping * During the course of three (mostly) full days of work the following was completed: 1. Copper was removed and was replaced with PEX including to upstairs fixtures, some of which was also replaced 2. As requested, plumbing was re-routed from the ceiling of a future bedroom through the Utility Room. In the case of this effort, work greatly exceeded expectations. The work was thorough, neatly done and aided greatly in advance of future phases 3. With the new PEX lines came more shut-offs than many might consider but which allows us to isolate fixtures including kitchen sink and dishwasher, new utility tub and clothes washer 4. Galvanized piping was removed (just in time as it was rusted badly) and replaced with PVC 5. A rusted floor drain and associated piping was replaced with new 6. New gas lines were routed to the dryer and when re-connected the not-to-code venting was updated 7. Working closely with us to ensure precise placement, a new Mustee laundry tub was installed and includes the Handiflo (R) discharge for the washer and UtiliTop (R) cover. Also, we had an American Standard Commercial Kitchen faucet including spray installed. Note: The principle plumber, Chris, had never considered the use of a commercial faucet in the laundry prior to this installation and ended up believing it would be something he'd recommend in the future. Much the same was said about the washer discharge system which neatly directs washer-water into the side and to the bottom of the tub 8. Last, Chris assisted with planning for the discharge of furnace and water softener to the new floor drain During the course of this work a small portion of the floor needed to be removed and when work was completed was neatly patched. Also, a portion of the plumbing was discovered to be backed up and Zac (I believe), Norblom's drain specialist, was dispatched not only to deliver supplies but the clear the drain. Overall we could not be more pleased with the work completed. With few exceptions including venting through the roof, the majority of our six-decades-old plumbing has been replaced with new. 1957, meet 2015! We would recommend Norblom for any plumbing work you need completed.
Description of Work: They replaced much of the original 1957 plumbing in our home.

Zach explained a few things that I might want to improve as the pipes were not installed correctly in the sink. He was quick and very informative. He then discussed the main line and offered me valuable information. Zach was terrific. I have had Norblom work on plumbing issues in the past, but this was the first time I had them come out to clean my drains. I would highly recommend them for both plumbing problems and drain clearing. Norblom is just so reliable and trust-worthy. You can't go wrong with them.

I called to schedule the repair and Amy answered. I told her my garbage disposal had stopped working. An appointment was scheduled for the next day. She gave a clear explanation of pricing. Without giving her any details of what was happening, she stated that she would be sure that the technician had a replacement in the truck as it would likely have to be replaced. I asked her how she knew that as I hadn't told her any details of what was wrong and she stated it was just to be safe. Hmmm. She told me they used Waste King brand "the Cadillac of disposals" but that I could go to Home Depot/Lowe's to purchase a new one if I wanted and save some money. She suggested I get a 1/2 hp model. I looked online and Waste King disposals were a special order so couldn't get one by the following day. But the reviews online were terrific so I thought I would pay the extra money to get a good, quiet model. The Insinkerator brand were available but they had fairly poor reviews online and were rated as very loud so I didn't go get one of those. Mike arrived on time and was very courteous. My disposal did, in fact, have to be replaced. I left him to do his work and when I came back to the kitchen about 20 minutes later, I noticed that an Insinkerator Badger disposal box was sitting there. I asked him about the Waste King and he said they don't use those anymore. He said they use Insinkerators. I let him know what Amy said and how I was frustrated as I could have saved quite a bit of money by purchasing my own. I also stated that the Badger model wouldn't have been one I would have used as it got bad reviews for noise. He agreed they were pretty noisy. He asked me if I wanted to go get one but his time would still be charged so what's the point of that? I felt as though I was lied to and a "bait and switch" happened. I didn't want the Badger based on reviews online but at this point, what could I do? To Mike's credit, when I let him know I felt dissatisfied and would like to discuss a discount, he stated he had already planned on calling Amy to discuss it. He came back in and said I could get 10% off parts and labor. Apparently, the paperwork at the office still listed "Waste King" on it and that is why Amy said what she said. While overall, I consider this a decent experience and Mike's customer service was exceptional, this whole experience still leaves a poor taste in my mouth. The price of the disposal was double what I could have purchased it for at Home Depot and I could have actually gotten a model that wasn't so amazingly loud. My floor now vibrates when you turn the unit on!

Very disappointed. Called in plumber for water heater whose pilot light wouldn't stay lit. Online research showed it was probably the thermocouple. After $200 worth of fiddling around, determined that hey, it is probably the thermocouple, but he's unfamiliar with the brand (some cheap brand from Menards bought 10 years ago) and after lengthy conversation with the suppliers, orders a part. He'll call as soon as it's in to set up an appointment to install it. He says it'll probably cost $30 for the part and another $200 for installation. A week later, still haven't heard from them. Finally call them up to find that they do have the part (but didn't bother to call me) and they'll set up an appointment that afternoon for installation. Find out part cost $209, not $30 estimated. Another $100 for installation and it still doesn't work. They will not return the part! I'm now down $500 with nothing to show for it. He says now it's probably the gas control valve, he'll have to order it, it will probably cost me another $300 with another $200 installation. If I accept this offer, I would have paid the cost of a new water heater and been without hot water for over 2 weeks. Will not use this provider again. I won't pay another $500 for a fix that might not work. I'll find a different provider to install an entire new waterheater.

A day before, we had another plumber (Minneapolis St. Paul Plumbing and Heating) come out to give us a quote to hook up our new gas dryer. MSP gave us a quote for $1,477 to do what we believed was an extremely simple job. Since that seemed outrageous, we then started calling around. Thankfully, we found Norblom. The plumber from Norblom was out the next day and did the job in literally 15 minutes for $111.09. We are SO happy we did not work with Minneapolis St. Paul plumbing and instead went with Norblom. If you need plumbing work done, search no more - Norblom is your best option!

It went great!. He did everything in an hour. He had the correct parts on hand. ( I bought the wrong cap for over flow drain). He cleaned up after and did a very good job. He also advised me on what would need to be done to replace our out dated tube faucet and breaking clothes washer. Thanks.

They were able to fit me in the schedule quickly and the worker showed up on time for the appointment which was a good start. However, overall I do not feel like I got a good value for my money and feel like I was overcharged for the work that was done. I initially wanted them to install a back flow preventer on the laundry tub faucet , in addition to replacing the gas shut off valve on the dryer gas line and dryer vent. For the back flow preventer on the laundry tub, the installer was going to charge me $90 to screw on a $15-20 backflow preventer, so I told him not to do that. I didn't understand why there was a $70 charge to screw it on to the existing faucet in 20 seconds of labor. It was either an upcharge on the part or labor charge, not sure. For the dryer gas line shut off valve and dryer vent install, I was charged $480 total. $80 of that was for a permit, which makes sense and is outside of their control, but the remaining $400 was outrageous relative to what was done. I do not feel like it should have taken as long as it did for a professional to do this work, and I feel the charges for parts and labor were way out of line. It was just installing a shut off valve and then a dryer vent and gas line connection. The installer did not seem to care about how much it was costing or what I thought about it. Installing a dryer shouldn't cost more than the dryer itself. Since the install: The dryer vent was not taped properly and came loose when the dryer was shifted a couple of inches. I had to re - tape it. I also had to call the office to remind them to submit the permit a week after they did the work as I was trying to arrange for the inspection with the city.

Came home from work on a Wednesday to find that we had no hot water. After some investigation, our current water heater had rusted through and was leaking, so a new water heater was needed. Purchased a Angie's List deal that night for $999 for a new 40 Gallon gas water heater from Norblom Pluming. We upgraded to the 50 Gallon for $150 more. Being that I was traveling for work the next couple of days, my father-in-law in town for the weekend, and my wife's boss coming to our house on Monday, timing for no hot water couldn't have come at a worse time. I was hoping they could come on Friday or Saturday to complete the install, but the earliest they could be there was Monday. All in all, 3 business days later wasn't too bad. The arrived on Monday during the scheduled time slot. Took approximately 1-1/2 to 2 hours to complete the installation. Everything in place was up to code so no additional work/money was needed to bring up to code. Very straight forward install. There was a $30 permit fee as well. So $999 for the 40 Gallon, $150 for the upgrade to 50 Gallon, and then $30 permit fee for a total of $1179.00. The water heater they installed was a Bradford White RG250T6N 50 Gallon. The best price I could find for this water heater was $580 delivered to my house. So doing the math, it was about $569 for removal/disposal of old water heater, and installation of new water heater. $569 seems a little high for the length/time and simplicity of install, but all in all the convenience of having it completed timely and with everything going on during the 4 days was probably worth the cost. That is why I gave a "B" for price. This is work that I would normally perform myself had not so much had been happening that week.

I emailed the night before and gave issue details and what I had tried. Left my cell and email. Within 20 mins of Norblom opening I was called and he confirmed my contact details and what was needed to be done. He quoted a price as well as work beyond the quote if needed. Good expectations set and speedy reply. A plumber got the work done with the in time and price quoted. Finally he left voicemail confirm what was done, that our cat was safely in the house. Very good all around!!

The company offered an apology. I have to start over with another plumbing company and another waiting period to get my toilet fixed. I am very disappointed.
Description of Work: The plumber did not show up at 7:30, as promised. I waited until about 7:50 and called. Kurt called shortly after telling me, "I did not get that message." I asked if he would be here by 8 and he replied, "No." When I called to complain about the lateness, I was told, "That is the industry standard," While I appreciate any good industry standard, I had asked (and had been promised) a 7:30 arrival time, so that I could get to work on time. I expect respectful treatment of any company I hire, and that includes showing up in a timely manner, when that time has been previously agreed upon.

Response from Norblom Plumbing
We apologize for the miscommunication. Our first appointment time (arrival time) for appointments that are on Tuesday thru Friday is between 7:30am and 8am. (Mondays are from 8am - 9am). (Our appointments are based on a 8am-4pm day with our first stop being at 7:30am-8am; (8am-9am on Mondays); 9am-11am; 10am-12pm; 11am-1pm; 12pm-2pm; 1pm-3pm; & lastly 2-4pm) We must have not been very clear when we gave the options for windows of arrival. While we did say this was industry standard, what was meant by that was that 95% of all service or delivery companies will only give a window of time and not a specific time, i.e. the 7:30am that you claim was miss-communicated to you. We are truly sorry that we could not meet your needs. Should anything change your mind and you would like to give us another chance to be your plumber, we will be here waiting.

We were looking to have a new gas dryer installed in our home. I was blown away by the customer service that we received both pre-appointment and during. The woman on the phone was extremely professional in providing an estimate and an overview of the installation process. After calling a few other places, I ultimately decided to move forward with Norblom because they had great customer service and competitive rates. The best part was they had availability the next day! Chris the technician barely beat me to my house after calling to let me know he was only a few minutes away. Although I was flustered that I was late, he was extremely understanding and friendly. He didn't even charge me for the few minutes that he waited! The installation was a bit more complicated than anticipated (aren't they always?). We knew we needed to replace the old gas hookup as it was no longer compliant, but we also needed to run new duct work to the outside. Chris also explained that the hoses Best Buy provided for hookup are not even legal to use in the state. He provided a new gas hose as well as water hoses for our new washer. He rerouted the dryer vent up towards the ceiling rather than running it on the floor (which was annoying to clean around) and insulated the whole thing really well. He even hooked up the steam function between the washer and dryer and the drainage hose to our dump sink. It was all very thoughtful! Although we ended up paying more than anticipated based on the complexity of the job and new materials required ($200 quote to $450 final payment), we feel confident that Chris did a fantastic job and our dryer has been setup safely and correctly. Thanks, Norblom!

I called Norblom Plumbing at 9:00 am after trying to get a family member to look at the floor drain in my basement laundry room. Every time I used the washing machine the drain overflowed with water requiring me to thrown down numerous towels to absorb all the water. I had lived in my home for 36 years and had no idea that drains need maintenance. I called Norblom in the morning and got a very quick response. Zac, one of their Drain Cleaning technicians was at my home by noon. He assessed the situation, unclogged the drain, finished the job under an hour and also gave me some maintenance tips. Zac was professional, very nice and easy to talk to. I will definitely call Norblom again should I have plumbing issues.
