Roofing was fine, but when I called because of a leak 3 months after the warentee period, I was told the rate per roofer was $185 for the first hour and $98 per hour after that. No flexibility or willingness to work with me at all. The leak was not new just newly discovered. Does not matter. Legally they may be right but this attitude is not what customer service I want to have in my life. They will not get additional work from me.

This is a follow up from work done 2 years ago. Roof/gutters still great and siding ok. However the metal that was installed over the soffit in several areas is pulling away and one piece blew off in the wind. After looking close at several areas on a tall ladder I found many nails not pounded into the wood soffit hence the reason many areas were pulling away. Walker did come out and repair several areas recently after I called so that was good. Hopefully all else holds up for at least what should be the expected lifetime but I have my doubts at least on the soffits. Look closely at photos submitted to see what is happening.

It was the Best Experience I ever had with a Contractor!!! The Estimator was Knowledgeable but not pushy unlike the other Four Bidders. He gave me a much lower price than one of the big companies that advertise a lot and Three Smaller Companies. The Job started the Exact Day and Time that was Promised, The Crew was Highly Trained as it showed! The Job was done fast but not rushed in just One Day! They even covered my plants and bushes and cleaned up every last nail!!! I am just Amazed at how good my new roof looks!!! I would refer WALKER ROOFING to Anyone. I will also be Calling Them Back to do my Windows and Siding as well! A+ !!!

Great!! The Walker Roofing people (sales, project supervisor and work crew) were excellent and very knowledgeable in their areas. They quickly and correctly addressed our questions, concerns or problems. If something was going to be delayed, they told us before hand. No unpleasent surprises. The work crew was excellent; fast, efficient, on time and hard working. Incredible cleanup of the old cedar roofing with no damage to lawn or plantings around house. We are very pleased with the whole project.

All went well with the roofing and I would give an A rating for the roof. C or B rating for siding. It looks good but the sub-contractor used didn't pay much attention to detail and was a know it all so Walker had to have him come back a few times and fix things. Each time siding guy came back he only did a few of the things I had mentioned but didn't complete all. Eventually Walker finished all. I would hire again especially for the roof but would ask for a different sub-contractor for the siding. Gutters work turned out good. The Salesman and Job Foreman were excellent to work with. In this day and age its hard to find a good price, quality, and reliability all in one company and Walker did as good as any other company would have I believe and I have had experience with other companies and also being in the trades myself.

They did not deserve my business
Description of Work: sWalker had sent a salesperson to my home when I was not at home. I had told them that I may not be home if they were to stop by. A few days later I received a phone call from the door-to-door pitchman and he proceeded to yell at me for not showing up and was extremely rude to me on the phone in a manner that was completely unprofessional. No words can describe the unprofessionalism. Glad I didn't go with them.

I called Walker because my association used them to redo the shingling on our building roofs within the last 5 years. They were frequently slow to respond and as our relationship kind of deteriorated I had to call more often to get a returned call. I had a service person come out a number of times over the winter and he was consistently surly and complained about having to get up on my roof (which is admittedly steep, but then let's work around that). We couldn't agree on whether or what the problem was, but my main complaint is that I found them very frustrating to work with.

They were really reasonable. The quality was good. I know that because I was a general contractor forever. The temperament of the crew foreman was not particularly good. He is kind of argumentative, but the company itself if I had a problem, they were out there pretty much the same day and corrected what was wrong. We did have one problem. Pricing was excellent.

PROS: The roof looks good and has not leaked. The siding looks straight. CONS: Large effort and stress to get the job as far as it got (and it is not done). After job contract signed, the roof took a month to start, instead of the two weeks they said, valley metal does not match other metal, forgot to order drip edge, had call back to fix shoddy drip edge work, put hole in siding, short on hip cap shingles, called three times to clean up nails, I ended up cleaning up myself. Siding took another month (two months instead of the two weeks they said) before it was started, metal z-trim is brown, siding is gray, missing trim boards, charged more than quote due to not properly scoped materials and then had to paint the materials indoors since it was below freezing, resulting in another delay. Gutters and painting of fascia did not occur because of their delays, so it has to wait until spring. Front office clearly does not talk with sales staff. I got the run around with timing and material excuses and no clear project manager. Felt like I had to protect myself by documenting every conversation in case I had to file in small claims court. Ick. I can not recommend that anybody use this company. I regret using them.

Contract Discrepancies: Contract states: "We guarantee quality workmanship with our commitment to excellence and professionalism." Violation of Contract: 1. Roof is not constructed with quality workmanship or a commitment to excellence. 2. A straight-edge or chalk line was never used during any of the construction resulting in gaps in insulation board and plywood. 3. Walker lacked professionalism throughout the project. Walker refused to send someone out to solve the issues or answer questions. Instead, they indicated "that you have to trust our workers who have ten years of experience." The day following the installation, Walker was to come back to install the scuppers and trim, and incorporate rubber membrane into existing system around the Home. Brian McConnell came over at 8:30 am, but did not knock on the door or ring the doorbell. Mr. McConnell was only on the roof for approximately forty seconds, not sufficient time to properly investigate the issues or perform the work. 4. There was no communication from Walker from the Wednesday through Monday after the installation of the membrane, at which time I had to contact the company. Contract states: “Clean up and haul away all debris from the premises.” Violation of Contract: The patio was not cleaned of cut wood scraps, saw dust, cedar shakes, and miscellaneous material. Contract states: “Totally adhere a 60 mil EPDM rubber membrane roofing system over the entire specified area. Totally adhere using proper field adhesive.” Violation of Contract: 1. The installers did not do an appropriate job of budgeting their time for the project and, left without a supervisor, the work started to lag. Instead of finding an appropriate stopping point where the roof would be weather-tight, the installers rushed to complete the project. The installers failed to use enough glue to totally adhere the membrane. Additionally, they made mistakes with the membrane install, gluing down the membrane and then pulling up the material and gluing it again. 2. In a large area on the roof, the rubber membrane is not “totally adhered”. Contract states: “We offer you not only fair and competitive pricing, but also experienced, qualified personnel, and full-time supervision of the entire project.” Violation of Contract: 1. There was not a full-time supervisor watching over our project. Both installers denied they were the supervisors. When asked about various issues, we were told we would have to deal with the sales person – who was not onsite. 2. When Mr. McConnell sold the project, he explained that there would be three people on the project and it would take less than one day to complete the work. For most of the day, there were only two people working on the project. The third installer did not arrive until 4pm. Contract states: "Install proper flashing to all walls, curbs, chimneys, etc., and any other protrusions extending up from the roof surface." Violation of Contract: 1. Part of the rubber membrane was simply glued to wood as a tie-in to the home. 2. Areas were left exposed to the weather and siding was not replaced, which resulted in leaking and damage to the home. 3. Improperly sized scuppers were brought to the project and could not be used. 4. The rubber membrane was to be installed behind the cedar shake and tied into the existing wall system, which it was not. Contract states: "Install one layer of 1/2 inch wood fiber roof insulation over the entire specified area." Violation of Contract: 1. Wood fiber roof insulation was installed with gaps larger than ¼”, which is more than the manufacturer’s minimum. 2. The spacing of fasteners is an issue with the City’s building inspector. The City building inspector has indicated that he would not approve final inspection of the re-roof work because it does not meet the requirements of the building code or the manufacturer’s specifications. Contract states: "Install new pre-finished sheet metal counter flashing." Violation of Contract: 1. Work is incomplete. 2. Color of the sheet metal flashing was communicated to three separate Walker employees. 3. The scuppers and tie-in material are not color-coordinated. Walker had nearly three weeks after signing the Contract before work had begun to be certain of color and size of the scuppers. Contract states: "All workmanship done by Walker Roofing Inc., is guaranteed to pass all local codes governing this property location." Violation of Contract: 1. The City building inspector has stated that, without corrections, the roofing work will not pass final inspection on several issues. 2. The permit applied for by Walker acknowledges that the roof must be installed to manufacturer’s specifications. The City has confirmed that the roof has not been so installed. 3. Walker failed to post the orange permit sign on site. City inspector will not approve the work. The City building inspector inspected the roof and noted a number of conditions that prevent it from passing final inspection, including: 1. A failure to install enough fasteners per 4’ x 4’ section of fiberboard per Firestone specifications. 2. The very clear fact that Walker pulled up and attempted to partially re-adhere a portion of the rubber membrane. The final product was never totally adhered. 3. The failure of seams needing to overlap a minimum of 3” as required by the Firestone specifications. 4. Lack of termination bar or RPF base tie-in attaching roof to home. According to the Firestone specifications, one of the two methods must be used. Instead, Walker simply glued the rubber membrane to the side of the home. In addition to these issues, The City inspector also voiced concern regarding the debris under the rubber membrane. He also commented that the scuppers and drainage did not seem correct. Walker’s contract does not comply with Minnesota law. First, as a licensed Residential Building Contractor, Walker is subject to Minnesota law requires a written contract for any work, and further requires that each such contract include: 1. A detailed summary of the services to be performed; 2. A description of the specific materials to be used; and 3. Written performance guidelines for the services to be performed, which must also be incorporated by reference in the agreement. The contract does not include their license number and the law, it should. The contract contains no written performance standards, nor were any supplied. Walker’s contract also violates Minnesota law by failing to include (and, in fact, attempting to disclaim and limit) the statutory home improvement warranties. The result of my experience with Walker Roofing is a failed roof that must be replaced and over $10,000 in damages to my home. In addition, Walker roofing is demanding payment of $2540.00 for work that does not meet the contract, city inspection and is faulty. This company does not care about the quality of their work or their customers, despite what they say on their website. Be aware prior to hiring Walker Roofing for your project.
Description of Work: Walker Roofing left us with a failed roof that is not to industry standards, not per the contract and left us with significant damage to our home. We have incurred significant damage to our home while attempting to get the issue resolved with Walker. We have not heard back from them, which is a common theme in their complaints from others on this website. Working with them has been an example of unprofessionalism and the ultimate lack of communication.

Response from Walker Roofing Company
We contracted to install a new roof on the member’s garage. We sent three journeymen roofers over to install the roofing as per Contract. The roofers ran into bad decking in the middle of the roofing process. This work added unexpected hours to the project. Our contract involved installing sheet metal counter flashing to the outside edge of roof at the wall where the garage meets the house. The customer was asked to choose a color. To date the color has not been chosen. The customer’s representative interfered and stopped the progress of the job. We were ordered to stop the work and not allowed to finish the job. This in turn caused alleged interior damage to the interior of the garage. We were never allowed to see the reported leakage. We have not been allowed to finish and to address his concerns, including the building inspectors concerns. Customer’s representative would not allow us to see the alleged damage, or attempt to stop any further leakage. The customer has already taken the situation up with the court system. We have no further recourse but to defend ourselves in court.

Their employees urinated in the snow outside of my house in full view of my neighbors, they discarded cigarette boxes, plastic bottles, and other trash in my yard, and caused substantial damage to my house. Some of the damages included a dented downspout, bent gutters, broken vinyl siding, clogging an underground drainage pipe with debris, damaging wood trim, putting deep gouges in the deck, a broken porch light, damage to bushes, cracked brick, bent and scratched fascia, and a wrecked service door to the garage. Instead of fixing the damages, the owner of the company called me "unreasonable", became irate several times, and would not acknowledge or apologize for the damages. He denied that his crew had wrecked the service door and he suggested that a suitable repair for the bent gutters would be to install gutter hangers. The last time that he called, he hung up on me. All that I had asked was that the house be returned to the condition that it was in before the damage caused by te roofing crew. In the end, I received a check for $1,700 through mediation arranged by the Better Business Bureau that did not come close to covering the damages. In their latest response, Walker Roofing stretches the truth claiming this debacle was "resolved and satisfied". Not knowing how the Better Business Bureau works when it comes to resolving disputes, I mistakenly agreed to binding arbitration. Basically this means that a hired arbitrator listens to the claims of both parties and their recommended solutions, then the arbitrator comes up with a settlement somewhere in between that is far less than what the cost would be to repair the damages. In binding arbitration, the signatures come before the meeting occurs, not afterward as Walker Roofing is attempting to imply below. Not surprisingly, they have other facts wrong, the binding arbitration meeting did not occur in December 2008, it was months later in the Spring of 2009. In Walker Roofing's original response, they claimed the work had been done over 10 years ago and that their records do not go back that far so they could not locate me, otherwise, they certainly would have made sure that they made everything right with me. After reading their response, I called them to let them know the incident occurred less than five years ago and I gave them my phone number and address so that they could make good on their claim that they would make everything right. As expected, I never heard from them. My advice? Don't bother filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, instead, file a claim with the offending business' bonding company and the Dept. of Commerce.
