Installed river rock perimeter around house to prevent erosion. Seeded bare spots of lawn. Installed shrubs. Lawn seeding only partially successful, some shrubs died and had to be replaced, which Steeleman did but didn't match surviving shrubs.

Tom was incredible, he came out quickly and provided a budget friendly solution to our backyard project. He provided a timely quality work. We even added on additional projects as the works was exactly what we were looking for.

Steeleman did an awesome job on my project. They were professional, friendly and efficient. I appreciated all of their ideas and recommendations.

Tom and his crew did an outstanding job in cleaning up and vastly improving our yard. We had a 30’ X 20’ garden area that was completely overgrown with weeds that Steeleman transformed into a beautiful area with stepping stones and native grasses. Tom also installed stone edging around all of our planting beds. Absolutely 100% satisfied! Thanks Tom!

These guys were good. They were the second estimate I had and came in a helped me with the vision of the project and came up with much better ideas than I could have come up with. Their pricing was very fair for the work they did. The owner was there every day making sure the work was done right and timely. Definitely will be using them in the future.

Not well. Contacted Tom, asked for a text for my information. Said he would come the next week, Monday or Tuesday. I had to call him again Monday night to ask if he was coming on Tuesday. He said he would be here later in afternoon. His job was less than professional. Patches of dead grass never touched. Mowing left patches not touched, trim not compleat. I wouldn’t recommend his services or use again.

My back-yard perimeter garden had become quite a mess with 50- year old rotting railroad ties, weed trees and shrubs, and out of control ferns and grapevines. Not only did it look bad but I didn't really need or want the garden which had been put there by a previous owner of my house. My plan was to eliminate most of the garden by converting it to grass (lawn) and then improve the part of the garden that I was going to keep. After doing some research on Angie's List, I contacted Tom Steele from Steeleman's Landscapes and am very glad that I did! Tom set up a time to come to my house and view my situation immediately whereas other contractors said they could not come out for several weeks. Tom listened carefully to my vision for my back-yard but also steered me in a better direction when needed which ended up giving me a better result. For example, he convinced me to convert the two corners of my back-yard garden to lawn instead of keeping them which was the right way to go for a cleaner, more streamlined look. He also advised me to use grass seed instead of sod on the newly converted lawn areas because the grass color will blend into the existing lawn better. Tom wrote up a proposal which I agreed to and he put me on his schedule to do the work. When the scheduled date came a month later, Tom showed up with his crew and I was glad to see him there personally involved and supervising the work that we discussed. He was also receptive to my input as the project progressed and I saw some items I wanted changed or modified slightly. It took Tom and his crew two days to complete the work and I was very happy with the result. A much cleaner and more open look to my backyard with more lawn space for outdoor activities. The part of the perimeter garden that remained along the back fence was much improved with the addition of Fond du Lac stone edging and new ornamental grass to go with the existing Hosta plants. Tom is a good guy who is dependable and easy to work with and I highly recommend him and the landscape services that he provides. Note: This work was completed on July 3rd, 2019.

For years we have been at a loss as to what to do with our extremely shady backyard. Tom responded quickly and listened to our concerns. He then developed an easy to maintain design using hardwood mulch and shade plants. He also applied grass seed to the remaining are of our back yard. To our great surprise, he has been able to get grass to grow, which no other reputable company has done. His pricing was very fair and he did not skimp on plantings or on the amount of mulch he laid down. We found him to be a man of integrity and amazingly dependable and in many areas went above and beyond our expectations. We were so pleased with his work, we decided to use his company for lawn mowing and future landscaping needs.

We called Steeleman's right before thanksgiving. Tom called back promptly, and said will take care of us. Despite being the height of the busiest time for leaf cleanup, he sent folks over as promised. They did an amazing, amazing job! Way better than any other that has serviced our yard in the past. The guys who came out were very professional, friendly and polite. I will definitely call Tom going forward! Initially, I thought the pricing was slightly higher compared to people you find in local ads. But, the quality, and the level of service - it is absolutely worth it and more! Also, I requested if they could haul away a few bags of leaves I bagged. They came back the next day to pickup the bags, and, to my surprise, they decided to quickly vacuum up the few leaves that accumulated overnight! That is going above and beyond, and I am thankful for their awesome service!

Performed well and did the work as agreed

I tried several times to contact Steelman's but never got through. The phone would ring and ring then go to voicemail. The first time I was able to leave a message but after that the voicemail box was full. Ultimately I gave up and never tried again.

Great! We hired them from January to March to plow my in-law's driveway since my father-in-law was having knee surgery. They've only needed to plow once since the beginning of the year but my mother-in-law was very happy with their timing and quality of work.

This is the second year. 1st year - contacted several service providers. Tom called me back right away. Others took weeks or not at all. Very happy with the service. Once he came when I though there wasn't a heavy enough snow fall. This year - Again good service. Once this year he actually plowed my drive way twice during 1 snow fall.

They were and still are very professional.

It took over a week to get a call back. He was on vacation which was no big deal. He said we could meet the following week, which was fine. Nothing was ever arranged so I went with a different vendor.

His team of two people did an excellent job despite the wind.

Steeleman's came through and got the job done by the 4th, as promised (in fact, 2 days early). The area looks great and they were very professional. I would definitely recommend them. We are currently considering having them come back and do another landscaping job in the front yard.

Was responsive everytime I call them and was right on-time and professional to detail out the needful care/tips/next steps. Well worth to re-hire them, anytime.

I had to call them to come and do it. They didn't keep up with it. I wasn't happy with the results. So, I no longer use them. They could be more reliable.

This is the 2nd summer in a row that we hired Steeleman's to cut the grass and take care of the trim. We've used this service collectively 3 years. This summer there were several issues: 1) The yard has been cut unevenly; with swatches of grass long and then short continually all summer My husband happened to be home on one occasion and had to have them go over the lawn again it was that uneven 2) The grass wasn?t cut the week of September 21, September 28 and was finally cut on Friday, October 9, 2015 3) The west post on the deck staircase had been damaged and the lowest board of the steps has a gouge in it 4) The damage was reported to the crew, specifically to the owner's son by my husband shortly after we discovered the damage in July, 2015. No response from Tom. When I approached Tom Steeleman about this issues, I was given a lot of excuses and bad attitude: ?I was out there and the yard looked good?; ?The guys like to drive fast, I?ll tell them to slow down?; ?You should have contacted me sooner?; ?We?ve been busier than we ever have?; ?You?re hitting me with this on a Friday at 5:00 p.m.?; ?We were behind?; ?I would be more pleasant but I haven?t eaten all day, it?s 5:30 p.m. on a Friday?; ?I?m not coming out there, I?m going to my cabin this weekend?, and so forth. Regarding the uneven grass, I let several weeks go by to allow for a natural correction by the team. When that didn?t happen, I called Tom to let him know. I didn?t demand that the crew come back out and cut it again nor did I ask for a refund for that week. I wasn't offered either remedy by Tom and he never suggested coming out to look at the yard. And to my knowledge he didn't follow up and do that. The grass was cut unevenly on a regular basis over the rest of the summer, but by that point, I was done reporting the issue. There was rain the week of September 21, 2015. Our usual cut day is Monday or Tuesday, and it rained both days. I didn?t report the missed cut that week due to the rain. I assumed we would be cut the following week. The grass didn?t get cut the following week. Every day I came home, I was anticipating the cut and allowed time for that to happen. I contacted Tom on Friday, October 2, 2015, after I got home from work, to report the missed weeks. During the conversation he tried to blame me for not calling him sooner to report our grass wasn?t cut. He was fairly disbelieving about the deck damage. I asked him to come out and look at the yard and deck, and that's when he got snarly saying, "I'm not doing that, I'm going to my cabin, I'll deal with this on Monday after I talk to my guys." Because of his attitude, I didn't have a chance to tell him I didn't mean to come out and look 'right this minute'. I never heard from him on Monday, October 5, 2015. I left a voice mail for him on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at approximately 6:30 p.m. to report the grass still wasn?t cut and never heard from him. The grass was finally cut on Friday, October 9, 2015. I?m not sure if it was cut the week of October 12, 2015, because the pattern in the grass was the same as it was on Friday, October 9, 2015. The cut on Friday, October 9, 2015, was not good; uneven and missed patches of grass so the yard was long and short. On Friday, October 16, 2015, Tom called my cell phone at approximately 7:50 a.m. and left a voice mail, saying he was at my house and wanted to walk the yard with me and asked when a good time to do that would be. I returned the call at approximately 8:10 a.m. and suggested meeting that day at 4:00 p.m. Tom said, ?I?m trying to get out of town to go to my cabin around 2pm. I?ve worked 21 days straight and when I have a free weekend I?m going to take it.? He suggested calling me later in the day and possibly meeting around 4-4pm if he didn?t leave town. I suggested we push the meeting to Monday, October 19, 2015 @ 7:30 a.m. Note: This was the first I had heard from Tom since I reported the issues with the yard cutting and deck post damage to him on October 1, 2015. We met at approximately 7:45 a.m. at my home and we walked to the back of the yard. I commented that the yard wasn?t cut the week before which he denied, saying he was there on Friday. I stated the grass is very long and the cut pattern was the same as the last time it was cut. Tom dismissed any challenge to the grass not being cut by stating the weather had been hot and it was growing fast. Tom admitted that the crew missed one week of mowing due to arriving at the house and having a downpour rain start. The crew then forgot to come back. We looked at the desk post and lower stair board. Tom aid, ?I talked to my guys and they said nothing happened, I don?t know what to say about that.? I commented that the mower might have bumped it and he said, ?My 900 pound machine would do more damage than that?. So I am stuck fixing and paying for damage that I believe occurred due to his crew?s negligence. However, because I didn?t ?see? anything happen, Tom is denying responsibility. We don't have kids or animals and the lawn crew were the only people to come into the yard. The damage to the deck was high (deck post looked like it had been slapped or slashed with something, leaving many marks) and low (lowest step had a gouge chipped out of it about the size of a 50 cent piece) I told Tom I wasn?t paying for services for October, 2015, because I was owed 2 weeks mowing from the end of September, 2015: Week of September 21: no mow Week of September 28: no mow Week of October 5: grass finally mowed on Friday, October 9 Week of October 12: Idisputed the grass was cut, Tom said it was and made a point of saying I owed for October mowing. Even if it the yard was cut the week of October 12, that would cover the 2 missed weeks for September. It certainly didn't reflect that I owed for any services. I let Tom know that I was not paying for October, I was ending services and would not be scheduling a fall clean-up as we are done with your services. It's very unfortunate because generally speaking, the crew did a good job. I've had to make calls in past years about not getting mowed and Tom has had the same general attitude - he gets defensive and makes excuses. I don't know if he was deliberately trying to get rid of me as a customer or not, because I find it hard to believe no one else on Angie's List has had this type of interaction with him.

He was good. I'd absolutely use him in the future.

Tom Steele came out and did most all the work himself. All of the plants Tom used looked healthy and were neatly planted. The entire layout was well thought out, and looked very balanced and professional when completed. Everything was done on time. Tom Steele is a true professional and very easy to work with.

Tom (owner) walked the property with me to discuss the project and pinpoint specific bushes to be trimmed. He said he would be able to get to the project in a few weeks, but it was less than that, only one week. The clean up was very thorough, the bushes neatly trimmed and the mulch project turned out awesome. Tom (owner) was on sight and actually did a few extra things, like putting left over mulch around a tree that needed some, trimming a tree that needed it (even though we hadn't talked about it) as examples.

I contacted Tom Steele to do my lawn this spring after my previous (very expensive) lawn service ditched all its residential customers and went completely corporate. You never know with lawn services - until you try them. I have to say this for Tom - any time I have an issue or need something else done, he has been exceptionally responsive. I also have to say this about Tom - my lawn has never looked better. When he started, I only had quack grass in my front lawn. He aerated and seeded and somehow brought magic to the yard. I've been in this house for 13 years and this is honestly the first time I've had a decent looking front lawn. I do not use chemicals. Due to so many ponds and lakes around me, as well as my own personal philosophy, I insist on organic products only. So, as I said, I think Tom used magic. We still have work to do on the back yard. There are many oak trees here which makes the soil very acidic. It was Tom who explained that and he is working on it. Tom's service worked here since spring and still is. There was no way to explain that under "Approximate date of service". Also no way to say $35 per mow; other services extra. Still, the cost was within the range of what is a normal charge in this area. I've been very pleased with him.

I was referred to Steeleman's by a neighbor who was having extensive work done on her property. I initially hired Tom to do spring clean- up on my yard and a consultation on updating the existing landscaping. He has a very good vision of what can be done and divided the work into phases, which made it easy to schedule and let me know the individual cost of each phase. I am more than pleased with the work that has done and plan to continue working with Tom in the future. I have already scheduled fall clean-up and have contracted him to do my snow plowing. Tom is professional, his crew is exceptional, and his attention to detail is obvious. The best part ... the curb appeal of my home is greatly enhanced and I love it!
