The member's breadboard tracks had come apart, and if there's anything in a kitchen that can make a house a home, it's a breadboard. Glad to fix it for her, along with other plumbing projects.

He was very careful and thorough. He worked straight through from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. without even a lunch break. I would definitely use him again, and have passed his name on to other friends who needed similar work done.
Description of Work: Install pendant light and run wire to outlet box and install new switch; modify cabinet to allow lowering of gas line for new stove, replace all new switches in kitchen, reinstall outlet box for microwave in new cupboard area, hang sheetrock in damaged backsplash area. EAch job was a little more complicated than this description, but Stephen listened to what I needed and did it in a quiet, thorough manner.

After the initial discovery that the first set of windows would be difficult, things went fine. As time went on, it became clear that these windows would require all the time. I would have appreciated an update during the process that unless I wanted to purchase additional time, the two windows he worked on would be all that he could do. However, maybe he didn't know just how long they would take because they required additional steps. He was professional and knowledgeable. After he was out the door when the job was finished, he put my concrete birdbath back on its pedestal without my asking him. I really appreciated that because it was much too heavy for me to lift.
Description of Work: I had purchased a coupon for 3 hours of handyman service for $69.00 and arranged with Stephen for him to do some window cleaning. Our home has older style windows with combo screens and windows.. I priorities the rooms on which I wanted the windows cleaned. After he started on the first set of windows, he discovered that because of the location of the radiators below the windows, thewindows would not come out. They had not been cleaned in 15 years. He explained that to do the job properly, he would have to remove the combinations from the outside and take the interior windows out by removing the inside window trim. Consequently, the job took 4-1/2 hours and did not allow time for any other windows to be cleaned. Strephen did a thorough job and got everything back together again. The windows have never been so clean.

The sash windows with counterweights required one side of trim to be removed to exit the window from the frame. A metal glide had to be removed. One window's counterweights had attic insulation in the bottom of the weight chamber, preventing the weight from dropping completely. This required vacuuming, something that could not be foreseen on the time budget, as well as adjusting the counterweight rope. Since both windows were covered by the radiator, both had to be cleaned the same way, making a time update too difficult to estimate. As a compensation, I put the birdbath on its pedastal. This is the second job I have done for this customer, and would work for her again.

The member gave a general request to replace a shower spout he was having trouble with, and I quoted the job unseen. When I was able to examine the job directly, the spout pipe needed to be replaced, as it was damaged by his efforts. What could have been a half-hour job necessitated a whole house water shut-off, due to the shower cartridge's leaking, draining the system enough, de-soldering, re-soldering, and final testing. This became a three hour job at $33/hour, plus materials and travel charge after 5:00 pm.

Stephen replied to my email promptly. I emailed two others and they took days to get back to me. He showed up at the appointed time and got to work right away. As we had discussed on the phone, he purchased and brought with him the tank mechanism for the toilet and installed it in one bathroom, and then changed the flapper on the other toilet. Both toilets work well now. He checked a switch in our fuse box, and we tried to get it to trip again by plugging things in and switching on lights. He recommended that since we could not get the switch to trip again, that we leave it alone and not replace it. He said it felt sturdy and not like it needed replacing. I appreciated that he didn't just replace the switch regardless of whether there was a problem or not. He was communicative enough about the job, but not a talkative fellow -- just got straight to work. He billed us only for the hour he worked, the travel fee, and the cost of the toilet mechanism. If we had gotten a plumber, it would have been much more money. Thank you, Stephen!!

I purchased the Angie's List "Big Deal" coupon for 3 hours of handyman service. Stephen arrived on time and began work promptly. I asked him to start by installing the closet system first, and that we'd see how much time we had remaining. The closet system install took a little longer than I had expected, but I was happy with the result. As others have posted, Stephen is thorough and cleans up after himself. I had enough time remaining for him to lay caulk along two walls of our kitchen, where the walls meet our kitchen tile. The floor looks much better now. He also installed edging on one of our stairs using fixture caulk I had purchased. On all phases of the project, Stephen confirmed understanding of the job first, and then had me inspect the work afterward. I appreciated that communication; for example, he recommended that I caulk a whole wall in the kitchen rather than just the spaces with gaps. I was glad he recommended that, as I can see that the caulk would have looked funny had he not said anything.

The Rubbermaid closet system the member wanted installed was in a finished basement on the downstairs staircase. The drywall studding varied considerably, and took longer than usual to locate. The studs also did not run vertically consistently, so different attachment methods had to be used, requiring extra trips to my truck for supplies for the right one. I would work for the member again. Nice dog!

I had three hours of handyman services to use from an Angies :ost Big Deal. I called and found a date that worked for both of us and we discussed what he woudl be doing. He was very upfront on amount of time things would take and I actually had time to spare for a small additional item on my "to-do" list. He was VERY knowledgeable and went the extra mile to assure things were done well, fixing a few things the previous owners had done wrong in some wiring too. I would recommend him to any of my friends.

Leaving electrical junction boxes uncovered is a N.E.C. violation, as the wire connections are no longer contained in the event of a fire. That is the first purpose of the code---to prevent fires. The second is exposure to shock, also a reason to cover junction boxes. Good member---I would work for her again.

Everything went well. No surprises and no hassles. What I appreciate most about working with Stephen is that he gets to work without bugging me--that is, he doesn't need any micromanaging. If he needs an extra part, he'll just go get it. If he seems something that needs to be cleaned up, he takes care of it. He's nice, and yet he stays out of your way and just plows through the to-do list. We will certainly hire him again.
Description of Work: We've worked with Stephen a couple times now, and are very pleased. His most recent trip involved several tasks: installing a new light fixture in the kitchen, replacing a faucet in the bathroom sink, childproofing (attaching heavy furniture to the wall), hanging a large mirror, etc.

The hinges went on well, and the dryer vent was properly metal taped after the clamps were installed. The smoke detectors did not work properly, even after new batteries were installed. One smoke detector was not attempted due to its height on the ceiling and its length of service. I told the customer I would replace that one and the others if she purchased the new smoke detectors with the quality she wanted. I am awaiting her call.

The customer requested removal of some tiles before doing the actual job of installing the tiles, but the drywall was weak and the tile pulled more sheetrock away during removal than the first row I removed. This caused some deep depressions in the substrate, up to 3/8" of an inch. The customer had purchased the job supplies, including some fast set mastic, according to the bag. I tried to use his materials, but the mastic didn't set up fast enough to start laying in the new tiles. I got the job prepped, but the 3-hour limit came quickly. It is Angie's policy to collect the money on Big deal coupons, as they receive a commission. On regular Angie's List jobs, I get paid after the job is done, a normal procedure. It appears that the customer was unfamiliar with the tiling process, as tile removal can expose unsuitable substrates that must be corrected before the job can proceed. That alone can take three hours and a scheduled day before returnning.

Stephen was both kind and knowledgeable. My only complaints were that he went significantly over the time he quoted me and when he ran out of stucco for the second wall he didn't get more. It's functional but doesn't look very good.
Description of Work: I had several "loose ends" to take care of before putting my house on the market. I am a bit surprised about this, as the member accepted the work without any further requests. The stucco originally was very thin---only one coat over a foam substrate. This did not give much material to scuplt any texture finish. I used all the purchased material without wasting it, but one or two more trowels of mud would have required another 60 pound bag with a trip to the store to get it. I think the time problem came when I repaired more of the deck boards than originally appeared to need work, as the prep work loosened more weak material than her visual complaint of her deck requested. I would have explained this more significantly if there was a stronger question on the time quote, but only briefly mentioned it during the inspection. Good customer, though. I would work for her again.

We told the young man not to worry, knowing probably how much he damaged his car. We hired Steve to do the job for us. He did a wonderful job. He does excellent work. He is very polite. He tells you that he is just a handyman. You provide the materials. He has some tools but not all the tools. He gets on the job and finishes it. We are asking him to do some more work for us. He comes before his scheduled time. The one worry is that he is not insured. I called my insurance agent and told him that I was going to ask Steve to do my gutters and he said it was alright but just to ask him to be careful. The problem is if you get an insured guy, you are talking about $100.00 an hour. Steve does it for about $33.00 or $34.00. He is excellent on professionalism.

I emailed Stephen from the Angie's List website, asking if he could perform the tasks I needed done, the cost, how long it would take, and when he could schedule it. He responded promptly, and answered all my questions. I appreciated knowing up front how long it would take and the cost. I was glad he was able to schedule our work relatively quickly after my contact with him. He did arrive on time. It did take longer than he had originally estimated but, even so, the amount of time to accomplish these tasks was reasonable. During the course of his work, Stephen noticed little things, like a sticky lock on the front door, and sprayed a little lubricant on it. That was nice of him. Every project looks very neat and professional. Stephen also took the old items with him to recycle. I would recommend Stephen and Rent A Husband to others. Jan Diemand

This member requested the removal of an isolated-handle lavatory faucet whose cold water anchor nut had rusted and I wanted to be extremely careful not to damage the pedastal-supported sink. About a month ago my garbage disposal was having electrical problems and neither my husband nor I could figure out the source of the problem: either the switch or the outlet it was plugged into. I went onto Angie's List and wanted to troubleshoot with someone before I hired them to come in and fix it. After reading his reviews, I chose Stephen. I left a message which he return within a proper time. He was nice enough to help me troubleshoot for free over the phone. As time went on and we tried all of Stephen's suggestions, we couldn't fix the problem and we finally had to call someone in. I considered calling another electrician I had used (from Angie's List) but I knew their fee to fix my disposal would be as much as buying a new one. I scheduled Stephen (he did come a little early, but better that than late!). He spent about an hour and fixed the problem and only charged me $48. I would definitely call him again.

The member replaced the disposal switch, but may have inadvertently tripped the circuit breaker putting the switch in the junction box. When they tried the disposal, nothing worked due to the handle of the circuit breaker not flipping completely off, who is normal for some breakers, and they didn't see it in the middle/tripped position. Electrical troubleshooting under the sink verified all circuit wiring was good, but the power wasn't there for the disposal switch. Resetting the circuit breaker completely solved the problem. I also installed her fire extinquisher bracket to an emergency access position, as it was stuffed away behind the sink trap. Thank you!

Her roll-up screen door was an excellent choice for her entry to her garage----saves a lot of room. Also, the building contractor put her outside faucet in the garage. The vacuum breaker leaked on the floor every time she shut the water off. The member thought she had a bad faucet that needed replacement, but all that was required was to remove the vacuum breaker. Apparently the house was built before the vacuum breaker code was started.

Based on the reviews on Angie's List I was really looking forward to having Steven perform several small plumbing jobs and possibly some others later. However, we never connected so I can't comment on his work. I had set up one appointment and he called 20 minutes into it saying he had been working at another job and just forgot and went home when he was done. OK, I do understand that that can happen. So, we set up another appointment specifically on a day when my husband would be home so I wouldn't need to take off more work, but he never showed up. When we talked that night it turned out that he had written down the wrong day. I'm sorry that it didn't work out as it sounds like his work is very good, but I'll be contacting someone else.
