The estimator came out, showed me their product and measured the area we wanted fenced in. 3 days later I got the estimate and scheduled the work. They showed up the morning of the day we scheduled and set all the posts. A week later they put up the chainlink and gates. We had 3 gates installed - one gate was custom made because of the slope in the yard. They were quick and professional. I had one minor problem and they came right out and fixed it.
Description of Work: We had about 100 ft of black chainlink fencing put in around our patio in the back yard. The fence keeps our dogs from wandering.

I've had them install two fences for me. They are so good, I wouldn't use anyone else! They're a good company to work with and I will call them in the future if I need anything else. They do the job correctly, which is very important to me.

This smaller job was passed up by other fence companies, but Midwest Fence came out and gave a fair estimate. I had decided to tear down the existing fence myself and while there were a couple posts left when the crew came out to first set their posts, they were willing to help me knock them down without a problem. A week later a crew came back and hung the fencing and they even replaced a cracked cap on a post they hadn't installed. A great company with a great accommodating crew!
Description of Work: Had 63' black chain link fence put up, one side connecting to an existing black chain link fence and the other side met a wooden privacy fence.

After having several different bids to install an ornamental iron fence in my back yard, I decided to go with Midwest Fence and am sure glad that I did. From the beginning of my committment to the end of the project, they were nothing less than "first class" to deal with. Not to mention, in doing an "apples for apples" pricing comparison with other contractors, they are the most competitively price contractor in the metro area.. As a general consumer, we all know that "home improvement" is not an inexpensive endeavor. However, with committing to a project and taking on the investment, there is a certain level of service, expertise, knowledge and craftsmanship that goes into the project. I am a very picky consumer! From start to finish, Midwest delivered on all 4 of the critical elements mentioned above. I set up an initial conultation. I met the consultant at my house and he showed some different ideas and product lines that would fit what I was looking for. He also guided me so that I was in line with both "city" and "association" code. After everything was set, we broke ground and got the fence installed. Communication was nothing less than phenominal along the way. I had a lot of questions and got to talk to the foreman directly. After the project was completed, I received a follow up call to make sure that everything was in line and that I was satisfied as the consumer.. In closing, the best part about Midwest Fence is that they are not some greedy contractor marking up the price of work and subbing it out to "temps" that do not know the industry. They are all MIDWEST FENCE EMPLOYEES! Or as I would like to say "trained technicians!" If you are putting up a fence of any type, go with these guys! You will not be disappointed!!!!
Description of Work: I had several bids from several different fencing companies in regards to installing an ornamental iron fence in my back yard. Upon reviewing several different companies, I chose to go with Midwest Fence and am sure glad that I did! Their quality of product, level of expertise combined with a fair pricing model made them a "no brainer." It's no wonder why they are the leader in the fencing industry throughout the Twin Cities!

Of all the fence companies we requested estimates from, Midwest Fence was the slowest to respond to our initial inquiry. All other companies called within 1-2 business days to schedule an estimate appointment, but Midwest took almost a week to make the initial call. Our first estimate appointment was rescheduled for another day because of the previous appointments in the day going long, and the second appointment was pushed back by an hour for the same reason. In both instances we were called at the very last minute (at or after the time of the appointment). Even after this less than ideal experience, we went with Midwest for the job because they had the products we wanted for a good price compared to the other companies we received estimates from. They also received very good reviews on Angie's List, so we thought our experience was just bad luck. When we signed the contract, we were told it would be 3-1/2 to 4 weeks before they would be able to schedule the installation. At the end of the 4 weeks we hadn't heard anything, so we called to find out the status of our project. They were not able to tell us anything except that it probably wouldn't be much longer. It was a solid 5 weeks before they called us to schedule the installation. In the meantime, we did receive a letter outlining the installation process, including what we needed to do before they crew came out. We received mixed responses about whether or not we needed to have our property lines determined/marked. The salesperson with whom we signed the contract told us it was not necessary as long as we had a good idea where our lines were and that we had spoken with our neighbors and agreed on fence location. The letter we received told us the installation crew would leave if we did not have our land surveyed and property lines marked. So we called Midwest to confirm and they gave us a very vague answer; basically that it was not necessary but we would be responsible if we had to later move the fence. The install took place over 2 different days; the first day included setting of the chain link fence posts and full installation of the PVC vinyl privacy fence. The second (3 days later) was installing the remainder of the chain link fence and gates. Both days the crew arrived later than they said they would. The first day the arrived an hour later, and the second day they arrived nearly 2 hours later. The crew was quite professional and did the work very satisfactorily. We are thrilled with the end product. Although Midwest was lacking in responsiveness, the quality of both the product and the installation is top-notch.

2 seperate people returned my call from Midwest fencing, neither knowing that their co-worker had already called me, and both arguing to ME that I was in "their" area. One of the men actually called after 9:30pm. I phoned the main office again the next morning to sort everything out, and the woman in the office had no idea what I was talking about. Eventually, that got sorted out and an appointment was made for someone to come out and do a bid. The morning of the scheduled appointment, the bidder called 20 minutes before set time, and tried to reschedule because it was sprinkling out. I informed him that we were in a rush to get this fence done, because the lack of one was holding us up from moving into the house because of our dog and child. I also let him know that the other 2 fence companies had already been out to do bids that mornin, despite the drizzle. He agreed to keep the appointment. When he arrived, the bidder was BEYOND rude. I told him exactly what we wanted done, and he glanced around at the back yard (didn't bother actually walking around the yard), pointed out all the negitives/obstacles of the job, and finally looked at me and said "frankly, I think we're out of your price range". Oddly enough, I had not told him what our price range was, nor what the other bids came in at. I so was stunned at this comment, my reply to him was "Well, it doesn't sound like you WANT to do this job, and frankly, I don't want someone working for me who doesn't want the job. Thanks for your time." and showed him out, without ever recieving a bid. I was VERY insulted and disappointed with the customer service of Midwest Fence and would honestly go out of my way to NOT recommend them to anyone.

I chose Midwest Fence through Angie's List after the fencing contractor I had been referred to by friends never got back to me with a quote (after 2 emails and a telephone call). Their estimator was able to meet with me on June 13th, just two days after I filled out the on-line form. I found him to be professional, and unlike most salesmen, he did not push a particular product. At my request, he offerred estimates for three different fence types, and all of the quotes were reasonable based on my prior research. My big concern was completing the project as soon as possible. I just adopted two dogs and I wanted them to have a place to run around and play while the weather is nice. Originally, he told me that the project could not be completed until July 15th, but after I pushed him, he called his boss and they agreed to an end date of July 8th. On June 29th, the fence installers came out to tear down my old dilapadated fence and install the new fence posts. (their installation process results in you not having a backyard fence for 1-week, so if this is a problem you need to clarify it at the signing of your contract). The process went smoothly. On July 5th, they came to install the rest of the fence. While they had planned to finish the fence on that date, they were called away to an emergency fence repair in the afternoon. They promised they would return and finish the project in the morning, however, and they did so. My fence is now finished --2 days ahead of schedule -- and it looks amazing. This is the most satisfying home improvement project I've done in some time. I would definitely recommend this company.

Midwest fence with given a challenge to install this in an established perennial garden section of my yard-it is also a very large garden. Not only is the fence extremely beautiful it is incredibly well installed and the crew did not step on a single plant! They went above and beyond to make sure my garden was well taken care of and the left the work site as clean as it was before they came in. There were two small gaps in the fence where it abutted to my neighbors fence, we called and within a few days the came out and did a full repair--they did an amazing job with this. Midwest fence was not the cheapest fence bid we had-however they were the best to deal with and we value good service above a slightly lower price. We interviewed and received bids from three fence companies and Midwest by far was not only the best to work with, but Tom Andrews our sales guy took my calls while he was on vacation and was prompt for all of our meetings, not only that when we decided to go with Midwest he met us at our request because we needed to get the project moving due to a new puppy in the house. We asked for an aggressive time line to get the job installed and without questions they got it done and did everything they said they would do. We are delighted. Thanks Midwest fence!! I am not going to use them for this repair or upgrade and I won't when I ever have another fence installed.
Description of Work: We had our chain link fence install by Midwest Fencing several years ago, but this winter the gate broken in the corners. I contacted them stating that I had our fence installed by them years ago and our gate broken and I would like to get it fixed and maybe have a upgrade and make a change and install a double wide gate. I was told whatever I want done they add a $350 charge so if I just wanted the fence fixed I would have to pay the cost to fix it PLUS $350 or the cost & labor for a double gate PLUS $350. This company does not want smaller jobs and they don't want lifelong customers.

I received a quick response to my request for a quote. The sales person arrived on time and went through all fence design options of interest, construction details, wood quality, costs, warranty, survey requirements and payment terms. I found their payment terms to be quite reasonable: 10 % down, another 30 % of total at post set time, and the balance upon completion. Scheduling proceeded smoothly. The post setting was done very well with all posts at the appropriate height and visually all in line. All excess dirt was removed per contract. About 1 week was allowed for the concrete to set before completion of the fence, which was also very well done. Overall, I was quite happy with their removal of previous fence and construction of a new one. They scheduled the inspection by the building inspector and, as expected, the job passed without any problems. I reviewed many fence companies information on Angie's List and with the BBB and only found two that I rose to the top of the pack. I selected Midwest Fence based on their years in business, warranty, quality of materials and work, contract payment terms, sales presentation, and ratings on Angie's List and the BBB. The job they did met all of my expectations.
Description of Work: Midwest Fence removed about 110 feet of cedar fence and posts and replaced with new cedar fence with cap rail design, two gates, and one removable section. Two references to surveyors that would do a survey for a reasonable price were provided.

Overall this went well, and we're pleased with the fence. However, we graded them down on responsiveness and punctuality due to communication issues. First, the salesperson told us the job could be done in one day even though it required several new posts. We double-checked that with him, and he gave us an explanation of how it could be done. When we were called to schedule the work, the scheduler was not aware that we were expecting the job to be done in one day and didn't seem to think it was at all a good idea to do it that way. The issue for us is that we have dogs and didn't want to be without a fence for a week or more if it could be avoided. We were assured that the crew placing the new posts could rig the old fencing to contain the dogs, and they did, indeed, do that quite well. It would have made a lot more sense for the salesperson to tell us this upfront rather than setting the expectation that the work would be done in one day. The crew that installed the actual fencing did a very nice job of working around the landscaping in our backyard that includes a perimeter of decorative stones. They also talked through the installation with me, resulting in some minor modifications to the original plan that made a lot of sense. The only difficulty we encountered with the fence was that the latches on the two new gates were too tight - just a bit so on one and to the point of almost being inoperable on the other. I called in the request for service on a Monday, and the repair crew was out on Thursday. Unfortunately, we were not called the day before they were to come out (as promised when the request was made), with the result that the gates were locked and no one with a key was home when they arrived. Apparently the repair crew was able to work around that, and the latches now work. However, we would have preferred knowing when they were coming so one of us could be there while the work was being performed.
Description of Work: Removed an old chain link fence leaving most of the old posts in place, and used a sleeve-over system to install a new, vinly-coated, chain link fence. They also replaced one damaged post, moved another post, and added two new gates, one of which required the addition of a post.

I called the company in the A.M. and a salesman arrived later that same day. Very friendly and very professional. He showed me the written estimate and I paid in full. Three business days later, a team arrived, removed my old fence, placed 5-foot inserts over the existing 3-foot poles, and strung a very neat 60 foot long chain link fence. It took about an hour and I'm very pleased with the results.

I was very impressed with this company - from the salesman that came out and quoted us a price to the crew that installed the fence. The salesman was knowledgeable and courteous. Once we selected a fence, he showed us several available options. We were also given information on maintaining the fence after it was finished. The crew that came out to install our fence was amazing! We didn't think a fence could be built so fast AND look good! The cleaned up when they were done and bearly left a trace (except the fence!) We will use this company every time.

Excellent job and materials. I was first impressed with estimator Norm's attention to detail, and his knowledge of Minneapolis fence codes. Midwest's quote was in line with the others I received, so I choose them based on their quality cedar wood, and their reputation. The installers arrived on time the first day to remove the old fence, and set the new posts. They worked through the warmest and muggiest day of June, with no complaint, and good humor. They had to dig all of the post holes by hand, because there was so much concrete rubble in the ground, they couldn't use their power auger. They didn't charge me any extra (although I did tip them nicely.) They came back on schedule a week later to install the fence. (Norm had told me they don't use quick-dry cement, because it's not as durable.) They did a great job on the new fence, and made sure I was satisfied with it before I signed the invoice. One of the installers showed me where they had attached a gate to an old post (my request; it wasn't practical to put a new post in that spot). The post was wobbly, and the gate was sagging already. He showed me how I could use a few lag screws to secure the post to the corner of my garage, which I really appreciated. They cleaned up very well when they were done. The new fence is beatiful, very private, and I get good compliments from neighbors.

They showed up and gave us a quote on different types of fencing - all the options from decorative steel fencing, which is what we got, all the way back to chain link. They helped us decide what we wanted to do and what our options were. They came back and did more precise measurements. They sent out a crew to put in all the posts, after which they sent a crew that actually hung the fence and gate. They showed up when they said they would, and did what they said they would. They did their work in a professional and pleasant manner, and were fine with me hanging out and asking them a lot of questions. They were easy to work with as a contractor, and I am very happy with their product. I would rate them highly and would use them in the future in a minute.

The salesman acted extremely uncomfortable upon arrival and haltingly gave us options. Then he asked us point blank who else we had met with. When we told him Peckels he spent a good 1/2 hour telling us why Jake was a bad businessman because he wasn't licensed. I was extremely turned off by this behavior. Later I found out this was not true and that this is the way Midwest has coerced people into signing contracts. Oh, and he also said he would call us and never did. This company will go to some unsavory lengths to garner business.

My neighbors were getting a new fence to go on the property line between us. I added onto their fence to go all the way to my house so the same fence went all the way across by our houses and at the other end by our garages. Since my neighbor did all the work finding the company, I just went along with what he chose. They came out on the scheduled day to put in the posts. About a week later, they came to put up the fence itself. One of my cedar sections was too big so they temporarily attached it so that my yard was still enclosed (I have a dog) until they could make one that was the right measurement. One of my neighbors fence was too small, so they put chain-link in between temporarily for the same reason. Within about a week, the new sections were up. The fence looks great. Because my property was a little lower than my neighbors and they knew I had a smaller dog (I have a beagle, they have a German shepherd), they added a row of cedar below the fence to keep him secure. I appreciated the fact that they thought about this and asked me instead of me having to ask about that after the fence was installed.
