The Asphalt Company

We couldn't be more happy with the process and results! In May 2024 we contacted three companies for estimates on replacing our asphalt driveway and concrete apron in front of our garage. Not only was the estimate we received from The Asphalt Company detailed but easy to understand, it was the lowest of the estimates we received. I'm not one to automatically go with the lowest bid, but after looking at other reviews we decided to give The Asphalt Company our business. Phil was great about answering questions about the estimate and process, and when it came to scheduling, Jim was extremely flexible and worked with us to avoid work happening around my daughter's graduation but to be completed as soon as possible thereafter. Communication was great, the job was completed as promised, and in a timely fashion. Unfortunately, we had some damage to our driveway from a delivery (in August 2024). Jim came out the same day we contacted him to make recommendations for repair. It was a pleasure to work with this company!

I made an appointment for 10 am on a Saturday the Company representative did not show at 10 am I waited 30 min. I called the company. The owner appoligized and said he was having trouble with the indivisual that was suppose to show up. We aggreed on a new time for the owner to come out same day. As I was leaving 45 min later the person showed up. I told him I had already called the company and rescheduled he made excuses and I aske if he had my number he sad yes I said a phone call would have been nice the I left. The owner showed up and was very appoligithic, and nice. He gave me an estiment sad he would email me the plans and the writen estiment still waiting have not hurd anything from this company or the owner not what I would expect on Angies List very disipointed with the servic or lack of. Would not recomend this company to anyone.

Before finding Jim, last Fall we had hired a different company to put in a driveway and patio for us. That project did not go well, and we had to fire that other guy. That left us in a pinch because the bad contractor tore out our old driveway at the end of the construction season, leaving us a mess to live with all Winter. Jim helped us deal with the other guy's mess, doing what he could with his Bobcat to clean up our driveway before Winter came even though it was too late in the season to install the blacktop. Then when it finally stopped raining this Spring, he and his crew did a nice job putting the driveway in, just the way we asked for it. I really appreciated Jim's professionalism and his effort to satisfy our needs.

They did a nice job. I bid out to 5 different providers - they were the lowest bid. They made me a priority and went above and beyond.

I called Jim from work asking if he could give me a quote. He happened to be in my area and got back to me within 30 min. We agreed on a very reasonable price, and he told me he'd send me an invoice in the mail so I wouldn't have to leave work, even though he didn't know me at all! He did a wonderful job- It looks great, cost less than Seal King, and was the easiest quickest house improvement I've ever made. He saved me a lot of time. I really hate doing this kind of thing, but he made it really painless.

Cut out damaged asphalt, hauled it away, filled in damaged driveway and area around the garage and then put down the asphalt. gave me ideas in what to do if settled a bit near the garage door.

After initially emailing the owner, he had said he could come out 5 days later for an estimate (and confirmed that he would service my area). The day came and went with no contact from him. I then emailed him the following week and he said that he changed his mind and wouldn't come out, that 20 miles was too far. Felt disappointed.

They came promptly for estimate and for service. Worked most of a day, and returned to fix a place that they had noticed that they missed. I was very pleased

. I was having some rodent issues in my home and the pest control person suspected the sunken driveway as point of entry. I tried several asphalt contractors but no one was willing to do the work, citing cool temps as main reason. Jim Cigelske responded right away, coming at night to take a look at the job. He was punctual and professional and a pleasure to work with. He gave me a quote that same evening which I accepted. He performed the work one day when I was not home. He checked with me first on this to see if that was ok with me, which it was. He did a nice job on the patch and also gave me estimates for replacing the whole driveway, which I had requested. All in all, the process was seamless.

Jim called back within hours of me leaving a message, and insisted on coming out to take a look at the damage prior to providing an estimate. My driveway had holes and cracks that I knew needed to be repaired, and i called 3 other companies before contacting the Asphalt Company. One insisted i neded a new driveway without looking at it first (and quoting $3500!), the other never even called me back. The third quoted me on the repairs, but they weren't on Angies List, so I thought i would try one more - definitely glad I did! Jim came in at the same price as the other company, but the responsiveness and quality of work were much better. Even after the job was done, he came back to patch up a smal hole my wife made when her heel sunk into the soft asphalt. Excellent work, great responsiveness. Price could be better, but in all honesty, i don't have a lot of experience with asphalt work - so it seemed fair when i looked around. Definitely cheaper than the new driveway the first company wanted to do! Would definitely recommend The Asphalt Company, and I will use them again.

Lots of holes, divots, etc and cracks running completely across my driveway (2 1/2 car garage width and fairly long), he dug out and carefully patched (just like when they do a good job on highways, nice squares and rectangles, not just blobby holes), filled in all of the cracks. He was careful to wait long enough between patching and sealing, and made sure that it wasn't wet or going to rain - a GREAT job!

Overall, everything went well. I never met them face to face, but they were easy to work with and very responsive. The job seemed a little expensive, but this was the only company I tried and they were up front about everything. I had given them estimated dimensions over the phone, and they gave me an estimate based on that information. When I actually measured the driveway, with all its various widths and angles, it turned out that I had substantially more driveway than I estimated. So the price ballooned to $600.00. I just can't accurately say if the final price was a fair price or not, but the work quality was at least "good."

Due to weather they were unable to make the appointed date. They called and explained the delay and said they would be out on the coming Monday. The job was done on Monday and I am very happy. I was very impressed with the neatness and quality of the work. I will surely use The Asphalt Co. again and highly recommend them.

We spent $14300 on that work. We really liked them and all of the people were really great. They were pretty comparable to all the others and were the ones that responded the best among all the other companies.

It turned out fine and I would use them again.

James provided a neighbor with two dates to seal coat all 20+ neighbors driveways. When it rained and the sealcoating was delayed, James sent all neighbors an email with an apology and the new scheduled date. The driveway looks great. We got a great value for the price.
