Very good prep for a detail painting job. Fine clean-up. Dan is skilled, determined to do a good job.

They did a good job. It was of excellent quality. The work looks great. I would work them again if necessary.

We had 3-4 people working on the house for two weeks. They were meticulous in the prep work and took over a week to sand and prep the wood siding on the house as well as the two story brick chimney we had painted. The crew was nice and Dan was there majority of the time either supervising or painting. They were out by 8am every day and were normally working until 6PM. The only issue during the project was we had to change paint color at the 11th hour and it took our costs up by about $600; lesson learned to actually paint a small portion of the house and see it in both sun and shade rather than relying on the samples. Dan specifically pointed out what he saw as a contrast issue before the painting started, so no additional labor was needed luckily. In addition to the house painting they also stained our 2nd story deck and we were extremely pleased with both the pricing and the quality. Total cost was $500 and the 3 year old deck looks like it was put in this year. Overall were very please with the Solems, how the project came out both cost and length of time, and will use again/recommend to others.

We got about three bids, and they were in the ballpark. They were neither cheap nor expensive, but they did a quality job. It seemed like they knew what they were talking about. The paint is not coming off, so it seems like they did a really good quality job. It looks really nice. They showed up when they were supposed to and also followed up. Everything was fine. I'm considering using them this fall for my house. My husband might also use them to pressure wash the deck at his house.

The initial visit was by this husband and wife team, Dan and Rebecca. Dan is a third generation painter and has a wealth of knowledge about proper preparation, effects of different finishes and color. The Solems separate the cost of paints from their labor charges. This is good for the customer because it gives the customer some control on paint costs. While we were away on vacation, Rebecca saw a sale promotion on television for the paint we wanted to use. She left a message for us and just after we got home we ran out and bought the paint at a great sale price which saved us some money. On the day work was to begin,Dan and one of his workers, Xavier, showed up promptly as promised. The walls were in pretty good condition but they prepped where they needed to and taped all the wood trim (which is extensive throughout the house). Both men put in full days with minimal lunch break and got this big job done very efficiently. Dan did astoundingly well on figuring out how much paint was needed for the job. The leftover paint was enough to have on hand for a future touch up. This is another area where experience saves money. In addition to all of the painting, they installed a light for us that we couldn't reach without an extension ladder. Xavier did this with ease and it was such a help to us and had nothing to do with our painting contract. We really appreciated this. Dan is very customer service driven and working with him was a pleasure. I have painted several rooms myself and Dan gave me some pointers on painting technique. Dan does a walk through after the job and touches up where necessary. The day after the paint job was done i noticed 4 little nail holes that were missed. I was perplexed by this because neither Dan or I saw this during the walk through. However, as I sit here I wonder if they were covered by moist paint and then as the wall thoroughly dried they popped through. I called Dan about this and asked him if I should try to fill the small holes and pin point paint them or if it's best to leave them alone. He told me what I could try but said that if I wasn't completely satisfied, he would come back out and take care of it and repaint the wall for me. I don't think that will be necessary but it does show Dan's high level of professionalism.

I came to know about them from Angie's list. They had many positive reviews. They are also an award winner. They showed up when they said they would. They communicated well and provided quality service. They were pleasant to work with and did a great job. It was a very positive experience for me.

I have to have my windows done before the painting, so I've decided to use a company who can do both types of work. But I did like this company and would have considered them if they were able to do the other work, too.

Solem Painting did a fabulous job. My wife and I are "color challenged," and Dan and his wife came to our house before painting with color swatches to help us choose the right colors. They were extremely helpful to us, and we picked some striking colors that we would never pick on our own. We love it. There is a different, but complementary color in each of our rooms. The main wall color we originally had never did match our carpet or furniture. The new color is a much better match and fells soothing. The priming and preparation was carried off efficiently and quickly. They protected our furniture and fixtures expertly to prevent splattering. The painting was done perfectly, with no brush marks or other errors.The one problem that occurred was a little paint got spilled onto a window blind. The Solems did the professional thing and replaced the blind after trying to clean it. We are very happy with their business ethic, and very happy with the end result. Their price is competitive, too. You will be happy if you hire them to paint for you,

The Solems (husband and wife team) were prompt in coming out for an estimate, a little slow on providing the estimate, and a little slow to respond to each communication. E-mail seemed to work best. Pricing was very competitive, and so we went with them as the local shop. Work went fine, results look great. They had to take the garage entry door (steel) back to their shop to paint, but it came out very well once I prompted them to get it back here. I'd recommend they be a little more responsive on returning messages, but otherwise I have no qualms about using them again.

Searched Angie's List for painters and asked 3 to quote exterior, along with 2 other painters not listed with Angie. Prices for the exterior ranged from 1200 to 2400, with Solem Painting second highest. It was the obvious direct knowledge of Dan Solem and knowing he personally would be on-site to direct others and also perform the painting himself which convinced us to go with Solem Painting. It became clear we had made a good choice within the first couple of days of painting. We were able to leave for a week's vacation and then return to find the exterior fully completed. It was later, in the Spring, I found that they had been so careful that not even the roof shingles had splatters (compared to previous painters over the years). We brought Solem Painting back in the Spring for the interior. Again Dan Solem directed the work personally and performed a great deal himself. This time we also added re-varnishing woodwork, with Solem removing doors and shutters to an offsite, refnishing the woodwork, and then returning those to the house so that we would not have to live with "chemical smell" during the painting and refinishing work.

Our 1950s rambler was in bad need of a power washing, scraping and painting. Dan and Rebecca gave us a thorough bid. We chose them over others based mainly on price and the reviews on Angie's List. We contracted with them to do the work, and they scheduled our job for late August (roughly two months after they gave us the bid). They were quite punctual and worked long days to get the work done in one week (they did have to come back to do a couple of touch ups after they "finished," but by the end of the week the house was painted and looked great). The final price was very close to the bid they gave us, especially considering we chose to add a second trim color after they made the original bid, which meant buying more paint and more labor time for taping. Two things in particular impressed us about the Solems: (1) They were quite helpful in picking out our colors. They asked what we wanted to do, had us try out some colors and then gave us a very honest opinion on which main color they thought would best meet our expectations. They also helped us find a trim color that was close to white but not white (we did not want white). (2) They were quite detail oriented and came back at no extra charge to put another coat of paint on our doors with a shinier finish when the original flat finish was showing every bump and scrape. The new finish is much more resilient and looks great. Dan and Rebecca always returned our phone call promptly. The only negative thing I could say is that they like to call earlier (I never feel ready for phone calls before 8:00 am!). Other than that they were wonderful and our house looks awesome. We feel that we got an exceptional value and excellent customer service.

The crew was prompt and professional. They scraped ,powerwashed and caulked everything.Dan found a rotten cedar board that we replaced,and then he caulked and took care of that.They removed and painted our gutters to match the house.I was very impressed with Dan's commitment to quality.His motto is if your going to do it,do it right.We put Sikkens on our cedar porch,but he would only do it on low humidity days using a brush.I am very happy with the job Dan did and plan on using him again.Thanks Solem Painting and Angies List for the referral.

Dan and other painters and Dan's wife, Rebecca, were very professional and did a great job. They were always prompt--or called to let us know of any changes. They were careful around the property, did a careful and beautiful prepping and painting job, and left everything quite clean. We are very pleased and expect to use Solem again for either exterior or interior painting.

Dan Solem responded quickly with his estimate; definitely knew much about color combinations and type of paints and was instrumental in choices made. Despite having the house disrupted for an entire week the painting went well and we are very satisfied with the results. There is still another bid waiting to be completed (power washing deck and re-finishing) but weather is a factor, and we are not in a hurry at this point. All is all, it was very rewarding to have a really clean house after that week.

Dan came in and fixed two bedroom ceilings, re-taped, sprayed and painted ceiling for me. After one day the stain still showed a little and he let me know he was coming back in to make it look perfect. This is the type of person you want to work on your house!!!

Happy with the work that was completed. Completed the job in a timely matter and they were able to start soon after I decided to go with them. I would recommend this company to others and would consider them in my bidding process if any other painting projects came up.

Dan and Rebekah came out and gave me a bid, gave me more ideas on what they could do and completely transformed the brick on my house and all my sidewalks and concrete. It was a big job and they had it done within 3 days of the bid.

They were the most responsive of the companies I called. I think they are the ones that I am going to use.

Our front door had been in need of refinishing for quite some time, so a lot of work was needed to get it looking good. A spot of ceiling drywall had to be cut out by a plumber a few years ago to repair a burst pipe. Since this firm does both kind of jobs, I had them do both. They were thorough in determining our needs when they made the estimate. They correctly understood that the basement repair did not have to be perfect (perfection would have been more expensive and we did not demand or expect that for that space). A much higher standard was used for the door. The work performed on the door was excellent and fully met our highest expectations. The minor repair to the basement ceiling exceeded my expectation and fully met our needs. The work was performed in one week, with one day off, largely to allow for multiple stages of work on the front door to dry between applications.

My home had not been painted for a number of years and the southside had taken a beating from the intense sun. Dan sanded, scraped, used a filler where needed and on the southside used a cover coat before using the regular paint. I didnot need to replace the southside with new shingles. He power washed the whole house, sanded and scraped where needed Did not change house color except I did change color on the shutters. Dan did a fantastic job. My house is beautiful and many compliments. They are so great to work with, always pleasant and on time. Dan will be doing some interior painting for me when the weather turns bad. Wonderful people to deal with.

Dan is very confident and proud of the work he does, and he should be - he does excellent work. He made sure the stain/paint went where it was supposed to and nowhere else, and he did a good job of cleaning up the old caulk and re-caulking.
