Suburban Landscape Service was established in 1962 by my uncle, James Gooselaw. He had just earned a Horticulture degree from the University of Minnesota and wanted to start his own company. His philosophy was always to “be dedicated to the job at hand, do it right the first time, and always put the customer first.” This motto is one of the key reasons we are still here today. I began working at Suburban Landscape Service in 1998. As the reputation of the company continued to flourish, I began taking on more responsibilities and eventually became Owner in 2000. Today, Suburban Landscape Service has teamed up with Gertens and Stoneman Masonry to deliver an even larger array of products and services. Suburban Landscape Service delivers the highest quality professional commercial and residential landscape, grounds maintenance, and winter services in Minnesota. We utilize commercial-grade equipment to give you the perfectly manicured appearance you desire, guaranteed. 2012 marks the 50th Anniversary of Suburban Landscape Service which is no small mile stone. We recognize that our customers are 100% responsible for our success. Our newest venture includes the addition of SLS Design and we are excited to offer our customers full landscape design as well as construction services.

They didn't give us the 1 week notice required before applying chemicals to our yards. Their snow removal was even worse. Their plows destroyed most of the cable and telephone boxes in our association, and once, they knocked out cable and internet to several homes. They used an oversized truck to plow our driveways after a late snow, when the frost was out, and ended up damaging a couple of our driveways. They were also supposed to fix the damage along the driveways caused by their plows and did such a poor job we had to have the owner do a special walkthrough with us. Then they laid sod that was near dead when they laid it and didn't water it. Another lawn care company that was giving us a bid to replace Suburban offered to water it for us to prevent it from dying. Their "satisfaction guarantee" isn't worth the paper it's written on, as we had to take them to court to get them to take responsibility for the damage they caused. Hire this company at your own peril.
Description of Work: Their mowers did a hack job, missing huge swaths of our property and not mowing certain areas as per the contract, i.e. the sloped areas, which by contract were supposed to be done with push mowers.

Unless you have a back-up plan I wouldn't recomment that you use this company for any type of service.
Description of Work: Update: The Service Provide suggests that this review is not valid. I kept very detailed information regarding the history of our communication which all but eliminates any subjectivity. The first communication I received was the email on the day I needed their services. I did receive the letter that was mentioned but received that weeks later. As for the late payments - those were my fault due to a loss in the family. But would you want your service provider to mention that? I've had Suburban Landscaping for my snow removal since I moved up to the Twin Cities. Unfortunately I should have interviewed other providers before I went with this company. For the past three years they haven't been able to plow my 400 ft driveway within 48 hours of any type of snowfall. They plowed very little first year. The second year they showed up 48 hours after the snowfall and by that time my car was stuck in the snow. They plowed the 20 feet from the back of my car to the street and left. I didn't receive a call. When I got home that evening (after walking home a 1/2 mile from the bus stop) my car was still stuck. When I called Colin he simply said that there was a car in the way. REALLY!!! The reason there's a car in the way is because you were supposed to be out here to plow two days ago. A little coordination would have gone a long way at this point. This year (2012) was even more astonishing. In October/November Collin provided his standard contract which I signed. During the conversation regarding the contract he said he understood that this service is critical for my household for various reasons: 1. I have a 400 foot driveway 2. Have an elderly mother who is staying with me. 3. The garbage cannot be picked up. 4. The mail cannot be delivered. 5. The paper cannot be delivered. 6. Packages cannot be delivered. 7. The driveway is basically impassable to anything other than a true 4 wheel drive. After the record breaking snowfall on 12/9 & 12/10 they were a no show. Here's the order of events: 1. On Monday I emailed Shanna to get a feel for when I should expect my drive to be cleared. She said that someone would be out ASAP. 2. Tuesday came around and again - the drive hadn't been plowed. I received the same answer from Shanna when I emailed her. 3. Wednesday came around and again - nothing had been done so I called Shanna. Shanna let me know that Collin was out doing clean up work at another location. (Keep in mind - my drive hadn't been touched and he's doing clean-up at another location.) But she would call him to see if he could come out. 4. On Wednesday afternoon I received a curt email from Collin. This is what it said: From: Collin Merrill <collin@slsdesignmn.com> Date: December 12, 2012, 2:51:22 PM CST To: "Collin Merrill" <Collin@slsdesignmn.com> Subject: Snow removal I am sorry for the frustration this will cause you but as of now we are unable to provide snow removal services for you this season. Collin Merrill President Suburban Landscape Service, Inc. Office: 651.454.3521 Mobile Office: 651.442.6196 Fax: 651.454.1186 www.suburbanlandscapeservice.com Keep in mind that this is now 3 days into the record snow fall. When I called Collin to discuss this, he hung up on me. So in summary - I have to find another snow removal company after the record breaking snowfall we just had. I believe Collin (the president of Suburban Landscaping) knew far in advance that he couldn't have the means to provide the service.

This review is not valid. We mailed out a letter of discontinuation of service which she claims she never received. This letter included 2 other contractors and their contact information who could provide service. Everything she is saying is untrue and subjective. This client is also rated as an F in our system of payment because many of her invoices went over 120 days past due.

We were satisfied with them. We thought they were reasonable and very thorough. They were willing to listen to what we wanted to have there instead of telling us what we should do. They drew up some plans and made some recommendations and listened to what we had to say. We benefited from his ideas.

The crew came in and did the work the same week I contacted them. It was completed in one day.
Description of Work: Contractor was responding to a water drainage problem into a window well. Contractor removed mulch and topsoil down several feet in beds along our house. Soil was replaced with number 5 fill and then medium river rock so water would drain appropriately. Work was done very promptly and efficiently. We have not had a lot of major rains since the work but I suspect it will resolve the problem.

They seemed to be good numbers. Considering that all we got was an estimate and since we have really dealt with them yet, we will give them a B because they came out quick. As a business they were out quick. We have to get approval from our homeowners association, so even after we get the estimate; it can sometimes take a couple of months just to get the approval. By the time we have the work done we might have to have it re-estimated because we live in a snowy area.
Description of Work: Suburban Landscape Service came out about 4 weeks ago and gave us estimates to have some shrubbery removed and replaced with something else, basically cleanup because we have some pretty ugly bushes.

The experience with them went great. They were responsive and they did a lot for a reasonable amount of money. Jim, the guy who owns the company is just very responsive and very helpful.

They were quite good, and did what they said they were going to do. I think they are extremely professional, and I was very satisfied with their work. However, I thought the pricing seemed a little high.

THE WORK WAS PERFORMED BY THE OWNER HIMSELF, ALONE, COLLIN MERRILL. HIS CREW WAS ALREADY DONE FOR THE SEASON. COLLIN WAS VERY RESPONSIVE TO OUR INITIAL CALL AND WAS EVEN CAME OVER AND LEFT HIS CARD WITH A NOTE WHEN HE COULD NOT REACH US BY PHONE. WE APPRECIATED HIS QUICK RESPONSE TO OUR INITIAL CALL, HE'S FRIENDLY AND WE'LL DEFINITELY USE HIM AGAIN FOR YARD CLEANUP AND PERHAPS FOR OCCASIONAL GRASS CUTTING. WE THOUGHT THE PRICE WAS O.K. (BUT WAS HIGHER THAN WHAT WE'VE PAID BEFORE WITH OTHER SERVICES).
Description of Work: FALL YARD CLEANUP FOR 3/4 TO 1 ACRE LOT. APPROXIMATELY 8 HOURS OF WORK. WE HAVE 10 LARGE TREES - 8 OF WHICH ARE OAK TREES. THE CLEAN-UP WAS SCHEDULED THE DAY AFTER WE TALKED TO COLLIN, BUT IT RAINED, SO HE DID IT THE FOLLOWING DAY - VERY RESPONSIVE.
