Phil was prompt, pleasant and efficient. He worked well with the City of St. Paul to get my water supply to the house shut off and turned back on efficiently. The work seems to be well done. The price seemed a little steep in light of the fact that the entire job only took only 90 minutes..
Description of Work: Changed house and street side valves on water meter and reworked piping. Changed cold shut off under the bathroom vanity. Extracted corroded 3/8" nipple under bathroom vanity and replaced it. Reconnected pop up assembly in bathroom sink.

Phil Quinlan was at our home on 11-20-12 to repair the kitchen faucet. It was determined it wasn't repairable so it was necessary for us to pick out another faucet. This was done (ordered through plumbing supplier) and Phil returned with the faucet on 12-12-2012 and completed the installation. He was on time, very professional and we are very satisfied with the new faucet.
Description of Work: Kitchen faucet replaced (needed two trips as we ordered the faucet through a plumbing supplier).

They were prompt enough- they were delayed but called to let me know. Phil did most of the work, he was polite, explained things well and was very careful about keeping the floors clean. He did a very good job of cleaning up. The work appears to be very well done. My only adverse comment would be on the cost. Although I didn't have the luxury of a comparison, it seems pricey.
Description of Work: We got the name of this firm when calling another firm that coudn't schedule in time. St. Paul Pipeworks responded promptly by phone and we determined to replace our water heater, which was tipping slowly due to corrosion of the legs. It turned out the side was also corroding through. They scheduled a prompt appointment. They replaced our existing water heater with another 50 gallon, power vent unit made by AO Smith. Code changes required that we replace a short run of corrugated copper pipe with regular copper, and to replace two valves with ball valves, and they ran a new line from the gas c*** to the heater control, and new hard piping at drip tee (total $2400) They helped with other odds and ends including replacing the drain cover (charged $45) and installed a plastic funnel to catch discharge from the water softener ($90). They also flushed our drain with an alkali soution (double portion), ($98) as it was draining sluggishly. They also charged a service fee of $89.

Dave was prompt to return my call and he was up front with how much everything was going to cost before he started the work. He also provided estimates on possible future projects such as a new water heater and bathroom sink pop-ups. I thought the water shutoff valve was going to have to be replaced, but Dave said that it probably just needed to be repacked. He was correct and saved us some money by repairing it instead of replacing it. The corroded screw on our bathtub overflow pipe seemed almost impossible to extract, but he was able to drill it out. We will be calling him if we need to have other plumbing work done.
Description of Work: Dave repacked a leaking water shutoff valve and he removed a corroded screw from our bathtub overflow pipe.

Charlie came to our house on short notice and replaced a leaking, under sink, shut off valve, as well as it's neighbor, and connecting pipes. Also fixed a leaky faucet. He thoroughly explained what he proposed to do and how much it would cost. We discussed having him do some other fixes, but decided it wasn't worthwhile at this time.

Very well. He was even early, which I couldn't make, but then arrived on time and started the work right away after we discussed the leak and the new valves. Then, he fixed the outside fixture. I was so pleased with the work I gave him some of our oven-baked pizza for lunch.
Description of Work: We needed a leaky water shut off valve fixed in the bathroom upstairs, he did both, which was great. Then, we also needed a new connection put on the outside hose pipe coming from the house.

I feel like I got ripped off because of the plastic crappy spigot. I had a very nice one that performed well, this one is junk.
Description of Work: I had my pipe and spigot repaired for $334.00. The pipe was the problem, not the spigot. Whoever came and did the repair took my expensive spigot and replaced it with a far inferior plastic "freeze proof" thing that does not shut off well and I can already tell after using it one time will leak soon. I want my expensive spigot back or a comparable one and this "new" plastic piece of "hardware" replaced. I expected more due to the ratings on Angie's List. I do not like the feeling of being ripped off. I was shown a pipe with a leak, not a spigot. I was not given any options in terms of brand or type of spigot that would be installed. I am not happy with the choice they made, especially for the price they charged me. Also, one of the guys was in my bathroom with the door closed. I don't know what he was doing in there, but the toilet didn't flush. That was creepy. I sent the above to the company in an email. We'll see what happens. I hope they take of it - I will let you know.

Response from St Paul Pipeworks
Apparently I failed to explain the repair we were making to the customer's home. The existing spigot had frozen and split. I replaced it with a Woodford spigot that was longer, so we had to adjust the pipe inside the home. (Woodford frost proof spigots are a high quality product) The existing spigot was to short in lenghth for this aplication, the longer faucet will reach farther into the heated basement. The pipe height was adjusted so the new spigot will drain better, and not freeze again. I showed the broken spigot to, but I should have explained more clearly what the piece was I was showing her. I have responded to her email and will follow up with her this comming week. Our company offers upfront pricing for this type of repair, so I am suprised she thought she was "ripped off". I stand behind our work and will do my best to make this customer feel more at ease with choosing my company to work on her home. Dave / St Paul Pipeworks

Much more responsible and responsive than the other 2 plumbers I called. Very friendly and explained the different options to me. They did quality work and also helped me with a couple extra things while they were here - like giving me a sleeve to put over the hose coming from my washing machine so that the sink drain doesn't get so clogged up with lint. I would highly recommend them.

It went very well. Charlie takes charge.
Description of Work: This is the second time I had St. Paul Pipeworks come out on a job. This time it was a broken shower head; it just cracked right off. Plus the kitchen faucet was failing. I had bought replacements myself. Charlie came out and installed them. Additionally, there was no water turn-off under the kitchen sink so he installed one. He also looked at and did a small repair to a third faucet (for no charge). Five days later, I called because I did not like how the shower head was situated. It was hitting the opposite wall, not me, and I could not adjust it no matter what. Charlie happily came out again and adjusted it until I was totally satisfied - for no charge. He is a really nice guy, very personable and most certainly knows what he is doing.

A plumber was needed by another contractor in the midst of a bathroom shower tile replacement project due to poor work by a previous contractor. I was surprised that Dave from St. Paul Pipeworks was able to fit in a service call within 2 hours (I was expecting the project to be delayed a day or two). He removed the tub spout quickly and since he was there I asked him to look at a leak in the basement. He explained it was likely the old lead pipe or perhaps the wax ring that was leaking. Another plumber looked at the issue and "didn't see any problems." It had been leaking into the basement through wood floor boards for a year. Dave made a couple other suggestions in the basement given the old house (water heater replacement, old pipes, etc.) in a non-sales pressure mode - just things to watch out for. Charlie came on the 2nd call to fix the toilet leak. He was professional, explained things well, wore booties, laid tarps, etc. He did explain he had to fit in another call due to a city inspector, but assured me the work would get done that day as this was my only toilet. He also came up with a better solution to seat the toilet given the tile floor height changed - it no longer wobbles and I don't see the shims anymore. Charlie also corrected the toilet knobs that were installed upside down; realigned a shower head and spout so they no longer leak. Both Dave and Charlie were very respectful and professional. I am happy to have found new plumbers to work on my old house. They also both sent me thank you notes - very nice touch!
Description of Work: St. Paul Pipeworks came to my home twice to: - Remove a difficult to remove tub spout during a shower tile replacement - Straighten/tighten the shower fixture that was leaking - Replace the old lead pipe from the toilet to the sewer - leaking for a long time - Installed the toilet/wax ring due to a change in tile floor height (not properly installed by a previous contractor)

Great. They answered questions, gave me an estimate before they started work, and discussed other projects I'm considering without trying to upsell me anything.
Description of Work: Saint Paul Pipeworks replaced the hoses supplying water to the washing machine. I called them because one of the rubber hoses had a bulge that looked like it was going to blow. They replaced them with flexible metal hoses. They also fixed a dripping shower - replaced whatever gizmos washerless taps have inside them.

See the paragraph above - we were very pleased with the services.
Description of Work: After the upstairs toilet was flushed and the tank refilled there was a loud bang. The problem was resolved by adjusting the water level in the tank, securing some pipes in the basement and adding foam sleeve around the feed line, at floor level, to the toilet. The flushing sequence was tested multiple times until we were satisfied with the results.

My toilet has been rocking on top of the tile in the upstairs bathroom for many years and leaks finally erroded a hole in the downstairs bathroom ceiling. I figured it was an easy repair that I could do, maybe new flange bolts and a wax seal, but a small voice was telling me to call a plumber because I could not turn off the wall valve. As Dave the plumber was removing the hose between the tank and the wall valve the pipe extension (sometimes called a nipple) broke away from the supply line inside the wall (UPDATE: due to corrosion from a leak that I didn't know about). Dave had the tools and parts to rethread the main line (inside the wall) install a new nipple extension and valve. I would not have anticipated this and easily gotten in over my head. Plus to do this repair the main water valve had to be turned off so the whole house was without water for this repair. Dave reinstalled a new wax ring and mounted the toilet only to find that the toilet still rocked. So he removed the toilet, drilled new holes and re-bolted the flange to the floor. This cost him a new wax ring, but he did the right thing and made a good repair. Dave the plumber used my new parts where he saw fit and saved me a bit of money. Now that the repairs are complete the humidity in my house has gone down 15-20% and my sinus's have changed. I'd call St Paul Pipeworks again for plumbing repairs
Description of Work: This was a toilet repair. Pipethreads in wall were cleaned with a tap, nipple pipe from inside the wall was replaced, wall valve replaced, flange was re-bolted to the floor with lag bolts, new wax ring, and toilet was leveled and secured to floor.

I had scheduled to get a bathroom sink fixed that was dripping, and literally running a stream of water from it. It was a Price Pfister faucet that needed to be looked at and fixed, if possible. The plumber discussed with me options to fix my internal valve, or replace with either models he had in his van, or with a new fixture I would need to obtain, if I wanted it to match the old faucet. I went to Gopher Plumbing supply to get the part, and it was fixed. While I was doing this errand, I also had a loose seal on my kitchen faucet. I asked if he could fix that. It was a Delta, much easier for him to fix, since they have standard parts, unlike Price Pfister. He was able to fix the kitchen sink while I was gone, and for extra good measure, adjusted a tube under the sink I asked about. Overall, very positive experience.
Description of Work: Fixed bathroom fixture - it was leaking a steady stream of water hourly. Fixed kitchen faucet - it would leak when pressure applied to handle

The job went very well. Charlie was prompt in arriving. He had to cut a portion of the tile out behind the bathroom vanity to get at the connection, but it was a very small portion and he was very neat using a special cutting tool to be more precise. The cut out portion was much smaller and neater than I had expected and I was very pleased. Afterwards, he took me through my house and he pointed out pipes that I might consider replacing in the future and spoke with me about options for replacing my aging water heater. He was a very pleasant and knowledgeable contractor. A joy to have in my house.

Everything went great. We called on Tuesday afternoon & got an appointment for Wednesday afternoon (the day before Thanksgiving!). Charlie from St. Paul Pipeworks was on time, called on his way over and completed everything neatly and thoroughly. He even put down tarps to protect the floor when he was going in & out of the house. I've never had a plumber be so neat & clean.
Description of Work: We had a basement shower drain that was leaking--as in leaking all over the floor. A different plumbeing company had told us we had to pull out the entire shower stall to seal the drain, but we wanted a second opinion. We are so glad we called St. Paul Pipeworks! Charlie came out, took a good look at the situation and came up with a way to seal the drain that worked like a charm. He showed us what he was doing, explained everything and was very fair & honest. We have a new favorite plumber thanks to Charlie at St. Paul Pipeworks.

One of the 3 Owners did the work, Charlie. He was very professional and helped to solve my drain hardware change. He had all the parts with him and was able to complete the work in 1 service call. I was very appreciative of his help and he was very nice to work with. I would recommend these guys to anyone, including a family member. The only thing I felt was rough was that they gave a 2 hour window and came at 5 minutes to the end of the window. For working folks this could be tough to handle, but maybe its the norm.
Description of Work: Wanted a drain hardware change I believed my threads on my shoe were bad. I was right. unfortunately there was no access to the drain inside the wall. Charlie gave me my options and we cut a new access point through the wall and put in new parts to solve the problem. It was the right thing to do and we now are safe that there is no leak on the drain as well.

He was just super. I called in the morning as I noticed a pin-hole leak in the pipe leading to the toilet spraying water all over my bathroom. He was able to squeeze me in almost immediately and stopped by later that morning. The work was great. He was also able to replace some old pipe leading to my sink for less than half of what a different plumber had told me it would cost. He is courteous, honest, and does good work at a fair price. He is my new go-to plumber!

An earring fell into the sink this morning, and I as loosened the pipe trap the pipe broke. I called St. Paul Pipeworks because they were rated highly on Angie's list. They came right over, replaced the pipe, rescued my earring (which was not in the trap, but stuck in the pipe) and made my day! The cost included the Angie's coupon discount. FABULOUS! I will definitely be using them for all of my future plumbing needs.
