Roof to Deck Restoration

Poorly - I had them do a quote for work to be performed, got it in writing, and through the course of asking them a couple follow up questions, it became clear to me that they had misrepresented their quote and that they would only be doing a portion of the work vs what was represented in the quote. They then admitted they had a mistake in the quote but it caused big distrust that they would so materially misrepresent the work to be performed for the quoted price. Had I moved forward with them, I would have been stuck with a job partially completed and would have had to agree to a higher cost to get it completed as they had originally represented. It seemed very unprofessional and even crooked. As a result, I would not trust this company. Interestingly, I offered to allow them to remedy the awkward situation and told them I would be warning others of my experience through Angie's list, and the customer service person that was handling the situation seemed to be completely indifferent.

Roof to Deck was great to work with from the beginning. Last fall, they came out right away to give me an estimate (free) and sent me a packet of information on their services and the stain they use. This information was prepared very professionally and was very thorough. It even included a CD which was very helpful. The stain they use is called “Ready Seal” and my research shows that it is a high quality semi transparent oil based penetrating stain. Upon accepting their bid (which included a 10% Angies List discount), they assured me they would get the project on the short list for spring. This past week, Paul, one of their technicians, came out to clean/power wash the deck. He was on time and did a great job!. Then Saturday Paul and Scott returned to apply 2 coats of stain. They were very nice, professional and did a great job, including any touch ups I requested. Prior to applying the stain, they used a moisture meter to make sure the deck had sufficiently dried out. A few of the boards on the steps seemed to be a little higher in moisture content (about 20%). Too much moisture can cause stain to wear prematurely. They assured me that if any of these boards were to show any kind of fading/wearing, Roof to Deck would come back and make it right. My dealing with them have been very positive and I would recommend their services to anyone.

Work was done in a timely manner, crew was great and everything was cleaned up before they left. Looked like an additional coat on deck floor would've been great.

Workers were prompt on day of service but they missed a couple of small places and the stain sat too long in one area so the color is a bit off compared to the rest of the deck. Didn't do second coat, not sure why. I wasn't convinced the deck was as dry as it should have been when it was stained. Deck does look nice though.

From Day 1 RTD exceeded our expectations. From Estimate to installation and take down the staff was on top of it. I asked questions and got answers. I was a little embarrassed when 1 light was out to call for a replacement. When the 2nd light went out - the office said- even if 1 light is out - that's what you are paying for so call anytime! Now that is service- never did I have to wait more than 24 hours for replacement or adjustments!

They do excellent work and when there are any issues (a critter ate through one of the cords), they come out promptly and fix it. I would highly recommend them for this work.

RTD was very easy to work with. They were easy to contact and make an appointment with. Branden came to our house at the agreed upon date and time. He introduced himself and then got straight to work. He did a great job. He cleaned off the decks, driveway and patio when he was finished cleaning the roof. He even sprayed off the house where it needed it. He showed me before and after pictures of our roof, and it looks great!! Branden did a great job. He is a good representative for RTD. That said, I think he would look more professional if he had a uniform. Although, I think their price was rather high. I would use this company again because of the great job and ease of working with them.

Very well. This is an excellent company that has high standards and delivers on its promises. The first crew that stripped the old layers of stain took pictures of their work since some areas proved difficult to strip and after supervisor review, another person was sent out to complete the stripping. After drying, the staining personnel noticed a few areas to touch up and spent time sanding these down at no charge. Since the darker stain lasts the longest, that is what we applied and it looks great. This was money well spent.

It took a while to get on the schedule, but they came out twice to clean and strip away the previous stain. Then they stained the deck, but a hard rain washed most of it off. They were very responsive to coming back out within 2 days to restain the deck, and it looks great. They even left a spray bottle for touch-up of spots. I appreciate that they replaced a small piece of grass where the lawn was damaged in the cleaning process.

This is one of the best companies I have worked with over the years. They are knowledgeable, professional, responsive and fair. The job had some challenges and the owner, Mike Hilborn, got in touch with me directly, unprompted. I have become a big fan. 2015: Late summer 2015, RTD stripped, cleaned, repaired, stained and sealed the horizontal surfaces of my home - cedar shake roof, front porch and back deck. The roof had been installed in 2000 and was in need of some repairs. I was actually considering putting on a new roof when I stumbled on this company. It turns out that cleaning and sealing the roof was all I needed. It saved me over $20,000. RTD repairs up to 50 individual shingles across the roof as part of the cost. They noted where I needed a larger repair job (one side of sunporch roof had almost disintegrated due to oak tree overhang and damage), which I had repaired with another contractor. The results were great - Several people asked if I had a new roof installed. It looks that good. NOTE: It was a dirty job, took lots of water (water bill high that month) and the outside windows had to be cleaned afterwards. Absolutely no fault of the company. It’s just something you should anticipate when doing this type of project. ISSUE: As a byproduct of cleaning and stripping the horizontal surfaces, we ran into a problem. The solution used to strip those surfaces also stripped the stain from the cedar siding wherever it contacted the siding of the house. Because of the scale of the job, this affected every side of the house in multiple places. The technician working on the house immediately contacted their office. They tried to match the old stain but after several attempts it was clear we would not be able to repair the damage completely. Throughout this process the owner, Mike Hilborn, kept in touch, personally sending me a letter and coming to the house several times. He took ownership for the problem, educated his staff, and worked with me to find a solution. RESOLUTION/2016 WORK: The siding of the house was due for stripping and sealing in 2016 (siding is restained every 3-4 years and every 10 years the old finish is completely removed and refinished). So working with Mike, we came up with a plan and fair/discounted price to strip the siding and reseal/stain. This part of the project was done this month (June) and I am extremely happy with the job. This finish is different than the standard semi-transparent stain I have used on the house in the past and I couldn’t be happier. NOTE: This work also leaves a film and dirt on windows and lights. Prepare to have those cleaned after the job. Again, not a problem, just something to consider. SPECIAL THANKS: A special thanks to Joe and Sam, the technicians who stripped and sealed the siding. This was not an easy job (3+ stories high on two sides of the house due to slope of lot – yikes!). They did an excellent job, removing shutters, carefully moving things far away from the house to avoid overspray, and their clean-up was amazing. Even though we experienced an issue with the siding, I was so impressed by the first job (roof, etc..) and the way the company dealt with me, that I decided to stay with them to complete the siding work. I would recommend them to anyone.

Customer service was excellent. They got us scheduled early in the year, came out when they said they would and did a great job. This was the 3rd time we've used Roof To Deck since moving into our house and plan to keep using them as the deck needs maintenance (deck is going on 20 years and still looks great). They leave no mess behind and do quality work.

This is a great company to work with. They did everything exactly when they said that they'd do it and kept us informed during the process. They did an excellent job and we will use them in the future to maintain our deck. They get an A+ for communication. We always knew exactly what was going on and what was going to happen and I feel very confident that if we ever have any problems with their work that they'll take care of it.

This company did a fabulous job on our deck. The previous owners painted it right before selling it, and after 2 years the paint was peeling. We could not power wash it, so Roof to Deck stripped it down to bare wood before re-staining. There were several rotted boards and posts they replaced which improved the look (and safety) tremendously. We appreciated them bringing out limited colors they provided for us to choose from (where others said "go to the paint store and pick one out"). The company is in demand so scheduling was a bit hard, and it took some effort to get them to finish before a party we were having (and which RTD knew about when we signed them up). But, the company re-arranged their schedule to accommodate us and we were grateful. Well done job. They are expensive but worth it if you want to rejuvenate your deck. Highly recommended.

We have been using Roof to Deck decorations for several years for our holiday lighting. They initially helped us come up with a lighting design and every year confirm that we want to continue with that design. They have always been responsive to phone calls and emails and are always available if you happen to have a light that goes out or something that needs repair. I have never had any problem with their services and would recommend them to do your lights.

They are very expensive. I loved how the smaller of the two big pine trees looked. It was starting to get dark and late and I felt like they were rushed on the big pine tree and the lights don't look as good on the big pine tree. I really liked the gentleman who came out and took the bid. He was very professional, he was very friendly, he was very courteous, he had good suggestions and he really helped me because we have several trees in front of our house. So he really helped me decide kind of the planning of it like what trees we should light and what trees we shouldn't. I can't remember if he came the day I called him or the next day, he was super prompt and he got a crew out here really quickly before Thanks Giving.

During the power washing of the deck, they did not mask my metal deck railing and removed the paint from the railing. I had to hire a painter to completely repaint my rail.Ttey reimbursed me the cost of the repainting, but it should not have been damaged in the first place. I had to call them back after cleaning, as they only cleaned 2/3 of the deck. They applied the stain on a day that rain was forecast, and all the stain washed off. I ended up staining the deck myself.

Afther the initial round of sanding, there was still several boards with a significant amount of paint on the horizontal surface. I called, and they came back the next day to do more sanding, but still did not do a very thorough job. The following week, they stained the deck. It looked absolutely horrible. Paint was still visible underneath on most sections of the deck, and the stain that was supposed to be dark brown was put on so thin it looked like the honey stain. I called, and someone came out to look. They agreed to resand the worst parts and stain again. It is better, but still not very well done considering the price. The quality rating of C is an average. The first time was a D and after they "fixed" it is a B

I hired Roof to Deck to clean, seal and stain my two decks. The price seemed in line with other quotes. I utilized their website to learn about their services. Once I had contracted with them, I had to wait to get on the schedule. The wait was a little longer than I would have liked but that was due to rainy weather. They were good about letting me know when they would be coming out. Prior to the work coming out, the owner of the company came out to meet with me which I thought was a nice touch. He went over the process, answered questions and told me to call him personally if at any time I was having a problem. The two men who did the actual work were very nice and professional. It took probably 4 or 5 days (spread out over a couple of weeks) for the work to be completed. The first day they laid a drop cloth over grass and the grass under it turned yellow. I'm not sure if there were chemicals on the cloth that caused that, but the grass is coming back now. The work was very good. I can't complain about the job they did at all. Unfortunately I am not enthusiastic about the paint color I picked for the vertical parts of the deck, but that is not their fault as I was the one that chose it.

We thought the origianal stain did not last very well, and they completely agreed, re-staining and sealing it at no charge. Very happy with the follow-up service

Very impressed with this company. They were on the high end of the quotes I received but I felt they would do the best job. The deck looks great!! Very good communication and very professional company. They have the man power to get the job done when they promise. I will be using them again in two to three years.

Roof is clean but I had to all 30 windows and jams in my home because the washing forced dirt and debris into the jams and onto the windows of both floors.
