They sanded, cleaned and stained the porch and deck to make them look as good as new. They were fast, professional and were significantly less than other quotes we received. I highly suggest using this company.
Description of Work: My front porch and back deck had not been stained and was showing significant signs of wear and tear.

They did a great job and I plan to use them again for my future porch maintenance.
Description of Work: I was having problems with peeling and bubbling with various types of new paint and stain that I tried on my front porch. This contractor came out and sanded off all the existing paint and stain down to the bare wood. They put on their own stain. It greatly improved the appearance of my porch and it solved my peeling and bubbling problem. I highly recommend this contractor for your porch or deck surfaces.

I appreciate that they have the optimal equipment to do the pressure washing and staining. All went well, and our deck looks great. Roof-to-deck were not the cheapest quote that I got, but they were competitive.

They first sent us a DVD to explain their process. We watched the video and they asked for half down on the project. When we watched the video, it said that you can ask for their discount but they were not forthcoming with the discount amount. The end result looks good and we are happy with the result. They informed us that we might need to wash the windows afterwards for film that might be on there from the power washer. They cleaned up nicely after they were finished and guaranteed it for 5 years.

First, the man they sent out had only been on the job for two weeks. He packed up before finishing the work, and he took a while to unpack each time. I was billed for the time he was on break, he threw cigarettes into my yard, two of my gutters were smashed by falling ice as was the grill of my central AC. He was here for close to eight hours. He also left my water on and I'm glad I caught it soon after he left. I sent the company an email and they responded quickly, sending a personal, sincere apology from corporate and a check for an hour of the work as a refund. The office personel were very nice and understanding. It was decent of them to refund that hour. However, I would never hire them again for the ice dams, but I would consider using them for other projects because the quick and sincere response I received.

We wanted our deck to be cleaned and restained, as it had been two years since installation/prior staining. The company's website certainly pushed the convenience of a web based request for quotes. I went through their Q&A form, attahced detailed pictures and submitted the request. I did not recieve a call back or quote. I tried to contact the company but did not get a hold of a person via phone. I then requested a quote on-line again, including pictures and their Q&A form yet again. No response. We will not be requesting a third quote. I guess business is pretty good when you don't have to respond to requests for services.

Member- Any internet requests that come through either our online campaigns or website, we respond within 1 hr of the request if received during normal business hours. If received before or after normal business hours we will respond promptly either that morning or the next morning. We are unsure how this could have slipped through the cracks twice. We apologize. In addition, we answer the phone 100% of the time between the hours of 7am-6pm M-F and 9am-3pm on Saturday. Unfortunately we have not received any other issues from any other prospective clients and after a detailed analysis of our sites functionality, we are unable to find any issues. Again, we apologize for not being able to provide you with a quote.

Called for an estimate. Got an immediate response - they were able to come out within a week. Receptionist was very nice. They showed up around 8 AM. I also have some painting going on on the exterior of the house by some guys who don't speak english very well. The Roof-to-Deck guy called me and was having issues communicating with the painter to let him know he would get wet if didn't move. He was getting frustrated, but it was not his fault - I can't blame him. I contacted the person in charge of the painter and told the roof cleaner to go ahead - he will figure it out once he gets wet. I appreciate that he just didn't tell me we had to reschedule. Finished the work and the roof looks good as new. Left no mess as far as I could tell - except maybe on the Russian painters shirt! :) The final price came in a bit below the quote which was great and they honored a 10% Angie's List coupon. I gave price a "B" as this seemed like a fair price. I don't know what competitors offer as I needed this done fast and just called them - so price could very well be an A. Overall I was very happy with the service.

It went okay...however it was hard to get ahold of them due to the demand for ice dam removal services this winter (busy phone lines that didn't go to vmail), and they wouldn't give any kind of estimate for how long it takes. I know every situation is different, but even a very vague range would have been helpful for planning...it is expensive so the unknown was disconcerting. The person who came to my house went straight to work and got it done efficiently. If you want a receipt, they have to mail it to you - they don't write them up when they leave.

The company steamed a particularly thick ice dam on the back side of our roof. During a warm up, water started leaking through the walls. We called Roof-to-Deck and they came out the next day. The contractor arrived on time, but had to wait because the water to the outside was shut off. Even though the company charges by the hour, they did not charge for the extra time (about 60 min) spent waiting for my husband to come home and get the water going. The process was laborious and difficult for the contractor, as the ice dams were about 16 inches deep, but he kept a good attitude and was actually pretty nice. We had to help him move his boiler through the basement -- that sucker was ridiculously heavy -- but after all he went through, it was the least we could do.

I called them on a Sunday as I had some water coming into a room. They told me they could remove it on the following Monday. They did it without my having to be at home and miss work. I was concerned that they would bury my gas meter in ice because it was directly below the ice dam. I asked them to make sure that they didn't bury it and they complied.

We had a leak into our dining room that we noticed on Sunday. I called several companies to receive quotes. I spoke with a neighbor and looked on Angie's List and settled on Roof-to-Deck. I called them and they advised me that they would arrive on Monday. I asked them specifically if I would need to be home when they arrived. They advised me that I didn't. I received a call at 9:00 am, and they said that they were at my house, and wouldn't be able to do the work if I wasn't there. I called back shortly thereafter and Matt had already left for his next job. He said that he didn't know where the water hook-up/outlet were. I explained where those were and where the leak was, and he said he would come back after he completed his current job. He came back around 2:30 and did about 20% of the necessary work. He then called me and said that he blew a circuit breaker, so couldn't continue unless I came back. I took time off of work reset the circuit break. I spent an 1.5 hours with him to try to make his machine work. I must have reset the breaker at least 15 times. It didn't work and he kept providing different explanations. He said that he needed 115 Volts of electricity as it was an older machine, but homes usually only provided 110 Volts. He said that they had newer machines at their office, so advised that he would come back tomorrow with a different machine that should not cause the same problems. On the second day, my wife stayed home, expecting Matt to arrive between 7:30-8:00. Several hours went by and he didn't show-up, so I called the office. I was told that Matt was in a fender bender, so they said that they would send someone else out. I explicitly said to them on the phone, whether or not they needed anything from me. They said they didn't and that the new guy would be fine as he would have my file. He arrived and didn't know any information about the leak, etc. He called me at work and I spent 10-15 minutes with him while he accessed the area and figured out what needed to be done. He worked for about 15 minutes and then the circuit breaker went off again. He left a message that it needed to be reset, so I needed to come back, or he would leave. I left work a second time to deal with the issue. I reset the breaker and advised him that I wanted to speak with his manager. I had to leave work on two occasions over the course of two days and explain everything several times. The manager advised me that all of the machines are the same and there isn't one that only works with 115 Volts. I explained to the manager, Justin, what Matt and Steve had told me when they were at the house. Justin went on to say that they had a gas powered machine that doesn't require any electricity, but that that machine wasn't available. They have been out here two days in a row, both my wife and I have been taken away from our work, and hardly anything has been done with the ice dams. They plan to come back out tomorrow with the gas powered machine. They apparently charge by the hour. Beyond the frustration of having to come home, we have two dogs that have been disrupted with the noises of the machine. They are now coming a third day to do a job that should have been completed in one.

Roof to deck was called to steam an ice dam on the front of a house I own. The company answered the phone and agreed to do the project the next day at 1pm. The water was leaking inside the house so the project was urgent. A few days earlier, I had another company steam off ice on the much larger back roof and unfortunately, for Roof to Deck, my expectations were that I would get the same level of service from another Angies list company. However, I was ultimately charged more than twice as much for about 1/3 of the work, which is why I was very disappointed. To help others avoid this issue in the future, I will outline a few questions you should ask before hiring someone to steam the ice off your roof. 1) Will they shovel off the snow first or just try to steam through the snow. I had to ask this ?technician? to shovel a section first since there was over a foot of snow on top of the ice he was trying to melt. He said ?You didn?t say you wanted me to shovel first?. Hello? Who is the ?expert? here? See number 4 below. 2) Do they go on top of the roof or work from ladders, shooting the water toward and possibly under the shingles. This technician stood on a ladder, so obviously he couldn?t reach everything very easily. I don?t know if working from below is an issue, but it did surprise and worry me. It was also inefficient as he had to move the ladder several times. 3) How many people will be working on the project (first team I had charged $250/hour for 2 people and completed triple the work for a total charge of $275; Roof to deck had one person who spent almost half the time setting up and taking down. Going up and down the ladder when his machine stopped working a few times was a terribly inefficient use of my money. At least the first team had already thawed out the faucet, which took the first team at least 15 - 20 minutes to do ? they didn?t even charge for that. 4) How much experience does the actual worker have. The first team from another company was extremely experienced and very efficient. They are roofers so were used to working on the roof. The Roof to deck technician seemed inexperienced, but perhaps it just seemed so in comparison to the other company. For an example, see number 1 above. I also have to comment on the professionalism of the company. I hired them knowing that they charged $295/hour, more than the other company. However, they bragged about their level of efficiency and were available, so, thinking they would be faster, I hired them. At the end, they tried to charge me $835 for a 2-hour job (that should have taken much less time). After I called the office and spoke with the administrator, they admitted a calculation error and finally agreed to charge me $600. To his credit, the technician had voluntarily reduced the time by 15 minutes due to the fact he gotten stuck in the alley; but the calculation was still way off. While explaining to the administrator that $835 could not be right based on the level of work performed and the time he was there, I provided the reference point of the other vendor who had done 3 times the work and shoveled the whole roof for $275. The administrator had previously talked about the high level of efficiency, so I felt it was appropriate to make the comparison. The administrator asked why didn?t I hire the other contractor again and then proceeded to try to tell me that if I were already a customer the other company should have taken my job again, etc. I had to stop this discussion saying it was really irrelevant ? the other company probably has a lot of good repeat customers ? we were talking about price to service ratio for Roof to Deck. One final note ? they were scheduled for 1 pm and arrived at 3:45 due to problems at the previous site. That happens, but the problem was that when he finished, I could not tell if the work was completed because of the darkness. I will never call this company again and I will always ask these questions first before hiring another company to steam a roof. Good luck.
Description of Work: Hired to clear an ice dam on the front of a house I own. They were able to schedule for the following day, which was helpful since the ice dam was causing a leak inside the house. The low rating reflects the very high price to service ratio. I had a similar problem on the back of the house a few days earlier that was cleared by another contractor. The back was 3 times the area, the other contractor shoveled snow off of most of the rest of the roof, thawed out the outside faucet and had 2 people doing the work. He charged me $275 for the entire job. Roof to Deck sent one person for $295 per hour, had problems with the steamer, requiring a lot of trips for one person up and down the ladder. Roof to deck worked from a ladder compared to the other contractor who was on the roof (less efficient when you need to move the ladder a few times and also water is spraying toward the underside of the shingles, not down from the top). Overall, Roof to Deck approach cost more than double for approximately one-third of the work. They also tried (probably innocently) to charge me about 40% more than they should, but I caught it and after some discussion they agreed.

We called the company to have them come out as we were having water damage. They told us they would be at our home that very day. The evening approached and no one came or called. When we called them they told us they could not have any one out that day, but had never called to inform us. The workers came out the next day and asked me what I wanted done on the roof. I told them to remove the ice dams from my roof as I was having water leaking into my home. I asked them to come into the home so they could inspect the damage and determine the source of the problem. They stated they didn't need to. Again they asked me what I wanted done, stating that I knew my roof best. I immediately called the manager and expressed my concern about the imcompetatnce of their employees. The manager stated to me that I was suppose to know what they were to do. I am a clinician, and unless I am concerned about the way my roof feels, I have no knowledge as to what they need to do on the roof, which is why I hired what I thought was a professional. I had the roof inspected the next day by a roofer who could clearly see ice dams left by this company and called to have them return. After the second visit I had the roof inspected again and again there were still ice dams left that were impacting the leak in my home. This time I called a REAL Professional, Dixon's Home Services. They came and took care of the problem immediately. I then called the company to inform them that I would be deducting the cost of the second visit they charged plus the cost of Dixon's services. They sent me a bill and also had the nerve to charge me a 25.00 service fee for insufficient funds on a check I purposely cancelled due to their incompetent services. I was appauled by this as I had tried to be reasonable with them and pay them for part of the services they performed, despite their lack of professionalism. This companies incompetence caused and cost me more water damage in my home. I have had much work done in my home and have never had such a bad experience as this one. I will never use this company again, nor should you.

We feel we have been "had." First, their website emphasized that they only steam off ice dams to keep from damaging the roof. They did not steam but used a power washer to carve out & break up ice. Hopefully this did not cause damage but who knows? Second, when they quoted me $350/hr I assumed a lot of ice could be removed for that price. Wrong. We asked them to clear the 2 worst areas. They cleared up most of the dam on one side of our house but only a small part on the other. It is a good thing we told them to do what they could in 3 hours, otherwise we would have had a multi-thousand dollar bill. When I talked with them to schedule the work & tried to get a sense of how long it took, I was told they do not give quotes because it depends on the roof, how big the dams are and the air temperature. I did not think much of this at the time because of the many reports on Angie's list that complained that companies that do ice dam removal won't give quotes. I wish we had shopped around more. I cannot imagine how a company can charge what an attorney charges an hour to do this work. One man showed up with a power washer. I could see these charges in an emergency situation but this was not the case. It was a ripoff.

the ice dam removal was relatively thoroughly done, and work was restricted to front section of house. This service is very expensive, and it seems clear they are taking full advantage of present local demand. That will cause me to look elsewhere if I need such service again.
