Renewal By Andersen

We are in the process of purchasing and renovating a home. Because our window to complete the work before we have to move in is fairly small, I have been calling companies to set up estimates for all of the various projects that need to get done. Renewal by Anderson told me that they would not provide me with an estimate until after the closing date. Given how much money we are planning on spending (replacing between 10 and 15 windows), I am surprised that they refused to work with me.

Very well from the start with Kim, the sales person, to the installation crew which was quick and skillfully navigated a few surprises in the framing, to the stainer who did an amazing job of matching the existing woodwork stain.

Keith and Mike were the installers. They did a great job. In addition to installing the windows, they added paintable caulk for us. They cleaned up the area after they were finished. Kim was our first contact and she was very easy to work with and responsive to our questions.

The reason we joined Angie?s List was to find a reputable window company that already had recommendations. We had a little trouble getting the permit; I was concerned because it was wintertime even with the delay they were able to get the windows installed before winter was fully advanced. They were efficient, everything was good and they cleaned up well after the job was complete. There was one window that leaked and they were prompt about coming back out to repair the leak.

The workers at Renewal do good quality work. It is all custom work. They make sure that I am satisfied with the work. They make sure it is done correctly. I will use them again.

Estimator was polite and knowledgeable. Price was significantly higher than others and they weren't able to do an egress or alter an existing window.

The work crew arrived on time and were very professional. They had the windows all installed in a couple hours. There were very careful when working in the rooms with wood floors to lay down rugs so as to not damage my floors. They did an excellent job and cleaned up so well that you wouldn't have guessed a work crew had been at the house that day. The cost of the windows was a bit higher than a vinyl window but it was well worth it. I was able to have the a wood interior which was stained to match the original woodwork in my house and they look great. The windows have been in for almost a year now and I have no complaints about the quality of the windows nor the installation.

It went really well. The installers were clean and efficient and they were here when they said they would be and they removed their shoes when they were coming in and out of the home. The sales rep was great too. He called the day of the install and checked on things and then I received a call about a week later from the service rep to make sure there were no problems after the installation.

We had just went thru a terrible experience, so I wanted to make sure that this would not be repeated. Joe came out and gave us an estimate for a replacement bay window, we went over in great detail what I was expecting because of what we had already been thru. I was promised and promised this experience would be different, and he would make sure everything went smoothly. We agreed to purchase the window and would set it up so the old window would be taken away and the new window replaced the same day this would be done the first week of July. The day of the install came and they took out the old window and it was taken away, then we found out the necessary permits were not taken out, so the new window would not be installed. So they had to temporarily fix this with the front "window" being replaced with plywood. This did not make me very happy as this was being done over the holiday weekend also, and being that it was the beginning of July it got very warm and dark in the main part of the house, and this was like this for almost two weeks. To say the lease this was very upsetting, but again I was told this was an oversight and would be handled. I continued to call asking for updates and was told they were working on it. After about two weeks the necessary permits were gotten and the window was able to be installed, the install people did a good job, they seemed to know what they were doing and cleaned up after themselves. The best part was the stainer. He came and gave us a couple of examples so we would know exaclty what it would look like. During this experience I tried calling the sales man about these issues but I guess once he gets the commission he no longer cares about the customer none of my phone calls were returned. Once it is all done and the bill came in the mail they sent a survey, I completed the survey and on the bottom it asks if you would like someone to contact you about your serivce, I checked the box that I would and it has been seven months and nobody has contacted me. I don't think if you care about your customers when you ask their opinion, and then ignore it once you have it.

Be prepared to clean up a mess, or worse. I go a quote and then when I was ready to make the purchase I wanted to add a few changes and the price jumped dramatically. I went back to the old quote. I didn?t think the additions were worth it. ~ $100.00 extra for a brass latch? The golden tongue sales person makes it sound like you will not have any problems at all and that they are so professional they will take care of everything. I paid a substantial deposit and signed the contracts. The measurement guy came out about a week later. He took the measurements and said that if I didn?t hear from them in X weeks as scheduled to call the office. After X weeks I did not hear from them and I called the office. They said they could install as early as the next day. Huh? They said they were getting around to calling me? The work was scheduled for a few days later and the guy at the office said they would go over everything with me and show me how the windows worked (cleaning) when they were done. The guys show up to do the install. Window in the Kitchen is much bigger than the old one so I could not reuse the custom moldings matching the custom cabinets. Now the window and cabinets are about 1? from each other now so any molding going to look strange. When it was time for the installers to leave they came and got me me. I asked to make an inspection walk with the supervisor and got an angry look. I just wanted to look over what they had done. I go outside and find that they did not pick anything up. Think about if you pulled out a window and took away the old window and left the rest. So were all out there picking up and the supervisor asks the other guy if he even picked up at all. The group of them were kind of upset and I was now feeling intimidated. We picked a little up and I knew I would be cleaning out my gardens next summer. When my wife came home she was the most upset with the caulk they walked all over our composite deck and paver sidewalk. She cleaned up what she could. I had chosen to do my own moldings. I had to spackle and paint cracks in the walls. I called my cabinet maker to create some solution for the kitchen. The worst damage is the bathroom. They put so much pressure on the wall that they popped 5 nails thought the paint and sheetrock. They cracked the ceramic joints along the wall and on both corners. Now I have to do more difficult wall repairs and ceramic work. I called the Sales person and he said they never get complaint calls. I filled out their on line survey and checked to have someone call me. No one has called back. I did pay for the work and have not received the lien waver as requested when I signed the contract. The biggest problem I have is that we are going to replace all of the windows in our house. I wanted to have all of the windows done by the same company and manufacturer this spring. I just don?t know if I would hire these weasels again.

This was an ok experience. They did not measure properly, so the installation was too small. They had to re-measure and take out all of those windows and they got different windows all together. They were very admirable in getting the situation right. They did make up for it in the long run. They were supposed to install the windows from the outside, but it was cold so they did it from the inside instead. They ruined some woodwork but they are going to replace it. I would probably use them again in the future.

They did the replacement in pretty cold weather and they got the windows in and out quickly. Everything was done well. They did the sliding doors as well. They matched the woodwork in the house almost exactly.

They were great and went to bat for us with the Insurance company. They do outstanding work and the crew is very pleasant, professional and I would highly recommend them.

I didn't get them off Angie's List. Their installers were professional, they were on time and they knew what they were doing. So far, while we are waiting for the staining to be done, I would give the experience an A. Their pricing is average. I would use them again.

They were courteous and efficient. They know exactly what they are doing since they have done it many times. This results in a very smooth operation. Our new windows are beautiful, they tilt in for cleaning, and I can no longer feel drafts from half way across the room.

The estimator was very prompt, friendly and knowledgeable. He made several suggestions that we readily accepted that we had not previously considered in terms of product and installation. He gave us a very detailed estimate that we accepted. He gave us an anticipated date by which the windows would be built and ready for installation. They were ready weeks before expected which pleased us. The installers were equally as friendly and personable as the estimator. I am not sure I have ever seen such care taken with as much attention to detail during a project of any kind as was displayed during this installation. Everything was completed in one long day, including the last hour or so in the rain while trim was still being cut and installed. We could not have been more pleased with the work, the result and the clean-up. The stainer who arrived as expected a week or so later to complete the job was as friendly, personable and professional as the others with whom we had worked. He spent a very long time mixing a number of colors until he got the match just right with other existing woodwork.

It started out well. Bruce came by for an estimate shortly after we called him. It was a custom window, large with divided glass. I had to call Bruce many times after the first meeting, however, to get information about a visit from an engineer and about scheduling the installation. I actually did not hear back from one of my phone calls. We had other windows installed by Andersen last winter and they were more responsive at that time.

The large picture window I replaced about 7 years ago acquired a divot which then spider-webbed into cracks. I'm not sure if it was hit by a small rock or how it happened, but I figured I would need to pay for the replacement myself. Since they installed the first one, I figured they'd still have the measurements, etc., on file so it would be easiest to go through them again for the replacement. When I called, the service agent asked me a few questions and said that the spider-webbing may have been due to a problem with the window, and they replaced it to me at no cost. Wow! I am impressed! I also was having difficulty opening my double-hungs to take out and clean (I've done it from the outside without removing them, and, okay, I don't wash my windows as often as I should!) and didn't notice this problem until this year. I called and they scheduled someone to come out to check it out. Due to a scheduling conflict on my part, we had to reschedule. I delayed in calling back to do so and after a few weeks, they actually called me back to reschedule! I think it's great that they took that initiative to make sure that my problem got resolved.

They did a great job! They replaced 8 windows, and turned two former windows into one large picture window. They came on time, did a great job of communicating, installed the windows (which look great) and did an excellent job of cleaning up. We were very happy with our service.

They came out and looked at the job that I needed done, the salesman was very nice and came out on time but as soon as he told me how much the prices would be I told him I was not interested in having them do the work.

Andersen was not the lowest priced, but I believe offered the best value and quality. The entire process from selection, ordering, installation and follow-up went well. My only complaint was that during the installation the crew shot a few of the finishing nails from the molding into the sill. This is a result of moving too quickly, for the price and quality of the product, they should have been more careful. Andersen came right then and fixed the issue however. Andersen has a great product - the windows are made from a Fibrex material made from the remnants of new Andersen windows. It has proven strong, durable and is a great way to reduce waste and impact on the environment.

The installation process was very professional and easy. Everything went as planned. We have noticed a significant reduction in drafts and our heating/cooling costs have gone down. They were really good about coming back out to do minor adjustments to the windows.

It went great! First we visited the showroom to get an idea of the specific types of products offered. Then a sales representative, Kelly Klein, came to our house. Kelly was very easy to work with. She was thorough in asking questions about what we wanted as well as answering our questions. She printed off a picture of what the window configuration would look like with the estimate before she left our house. She was quick to return calls. Our installation happened a few weeks ahead of schedule, and the workers showed up on time, were courteous, and answered all questions we had that day. The only snafu was that the installer thought the city inspector was coming that same day for the inspection. No one showed up, but that could have been the city inspections office's mistake. Overall, it was a very positive experience, and our windows and door are both beautiful as well as functional!

Everything went very well. They were on time, and got everything done quickly. They were very, very professional and responsive. They cleaned up after themselves very well, and put runners down throughout the entire house so nothing got damaged when they did the work.

Very nice, professional, on time and finished earlier then expected. Price is a bit high, but I would hire again.
