We had been checking out different window companies and styles for about a year. We like the look of the Renewal windows and the Fibrex material they are made of, so we made an appointment at a local home show to get an estimate. They were very good about calling and making sure we would both be there and allow an hour or so for the visit. Our salesman was excellent. He was prompt and friendly, but never pressured. He was extremely knowledgable about the windows and the style of homes in our area...very helpful. The windows were installed 4 weeks from our sales meeting. Two installers worked about 5 hours to complete. They were serious workers, did not take a break, no phone calls, just worked until they were done. They were very efficient, cleaned as they worked, and their workmanship was flawless. The windows are of excellent quality. The new trim work was excellent. We were very pleased. We would also reccommend the invisible screens...we put them on our living room and dining room/kitchen windows that we look out of the most. They were a little more expensive but so worth it. You have to get close to see them at all! For the rest of the windows we went with the regular screens since those are covered with mini blinds and curtains anyway. They look beautiful. Definitely worth the price.
Description of Work: Our house is about 50 years old and had the original wood windows. Renewal by Andersen replaced 6 double hung windows with new inserts. They also replaced a large picture window with a different style consisting of a large center window with double hungs on each side with interior grilles. This was a full frame installation which is a higher cost than an insert. We got white maintenance free finish. The full frame install on the picture window meant removing all the oak trim. They replaced that with new oak trim that we will stain to match.

The project took 4 days to complete, but each afternoon before the crew left, they cleaned the work areas so well that you couldn't even tell they had been there. This was one of the keys to my wife's happiness, because she keeps an immaculately clean home. We have a grand piano that had to be moved, which was also a concern. The men helped move it, and were extremely careful not to cause any marks on any of the furniture. Several of the windows were over 12 feet high, but the crew had no problem handling the task. The work was completed on time, and my wife was so happy with the results, she bought lunch for the whole crew, (pizza) before they left on the 4th day The crew was top notch, extremely professional, courteous, and helpful. We love the windows, and the follow-up by the sales person (Kim) has been fantastic. I would definitely recommend Kim and Renewal to anyone that would need there services
Description of Work: We had to replace the majority of the windows in our 24 year old home, due to rotting. Renewal by Anderson replaced the windows and several patio doors, in the middle of January . They did all the painting and staining before installation.

A two man crew showed up on-time on the day the were scheduled. It took them 2 1/2 days to complete the job. They cleaned up after themselves each day and removed all of the old windows when they were done. They cleaned so well each day that you couldn't even tell they were there. They were very professional and did a great job. It was a great experience working with them and I would not hesitate to recommend Renewal by Anderson to anyone.
Description of Work: We had someone come through our neighborhood drumming up business and evaluating our house for damage from a storm that occurred in the Spring of 2011. This individual worked with our insurance company to come to an agreement on damage to several of our windows. The insurance company offered a settlement based on this companies estimate. I decided to get a competitive bid from Renewal by Anderson to see if the original companies costs were competitive. The original company was proposing Pella windows as a replacement. Anderson's bid was about $4000 more that the original contractors but for this price they were going to replace an additional 5 windows and a sliding glass door. They also explained that there widows were measured to fit the opening so the replacement would look seamless. The Pella windows would require that the siding be cut and would require a border around the window. Also, with the renewal windows I could get a different type of window. With Pella I was stuck getting the same type of window as the original.

I originally had the salesperson give me a proposal in April of 2011. I realized at that time that my budget wasn't quite ready for this project. The salesperson was very con siderate of that and did not do a hard sell or make me feel bad about wasting his time. He gave me his card and kepy in to touch with mailings. By December of that year, I felt I was ready for the project with some adjustments and called him. He promptly returned my call and presented me with a revised proposal. I later noticed a couple errors (probably due the revision of the old proposal). He again very promptly came back out and presented me with a corrected proposal. The installation went well and they completed it in one day. They gave me a demonstration of how to clean and operate the windows. The salesperson also put me in touch with someone in their company that gave me advice and sent me instructions on how to stain a couple of windows that I had ordered unstained. Since it is winter I can't really say much about how they operate as far as cleaining, opening and closing. However, I have noticed a difference already in the warmth (less draftiness) of the house. My only suggestion to the installation team is that they do a walk around of the house as they clean up. They forgot a couple of windows leaning against the far side of my house that I will eventually need to haul to the refuse center.
Description of Work: Installed 8 windows in my house including wrap around.

The work was performed about 2 weeks after the sales rep said it would be performed, but he never bothered to let us know about the delay. Further, when I called to ask, he never bothered to return my calls. Then while they were installing the window, the workmen found that the sheathing had rotted and they stopped the work saying that they could not repair it and that I would have to find another contractor and then they would return when the sheathing was replaced. I should call Anderson and re-schedule. All in all, I found Anderson to be very unprofessional and do not plan to use them for replacing any other windows.

Having windows replaced is a really disruptive experience (since installers need everything cleared away from all windows), so we are very glad we chose Renewal to do this project. The window installers were very organized, neat, and professional, and the project was completed within two days. I got a lot of window bids, and even though Renewal windows were more expensive than most vinyl windows, I loved the look of the Renewal windows. Also, we wanted to replace two living room windows with one large picture window, and they were the only window company that was willing to warranty creating a larger window from the two windows (since there was some uncertainty as to whether the existing header would be adequate). I also highly recommend the invisible screens available through Andersen. It is now 3 and 1/2 years later, and we still love our windows! The windows do a great job keeping the cold air out in the winter, and our house is much more soundproof than it used to be.

Our experience from the start is probably slightly different that most homeowners since our project was part of the MAC airport noise abatement program. However, the design visit for our house was done by an Andersen employee. He was knowledgeable and very precise in getting our design plan and scope of work accurate -- even though we were getting 12 windows through A & A millwork. When our Andersen Windows were done, Brandon and his co-worker arrived to install. They were professional and even asked if it would be ok to use our bathroom during the day if they needed. They kept everything very clean and tidy -- you wouldn't have known they had been in our house except that we have two new windows and a beautiful door.

They did an excellent job. They were very careful about what they did. They were on time. We decided that we needed a little handle on the sliding windows so they came back and took care of that. I had first contacted Andersen 2-3 years ago for a quote for replacing some original casements Windows in my home. I had gotten a few other quotes but didn't do anything. Nobody really had what I wanted. This summer at our local county fair, Andersen had a booth displaying their completely redesigned casement window. I really liked the look of the Window and called for a new quote. Joe Elias came to my house and not only had all my information already in his computer but was the person who provided the quote last time. Joe was totally no pressure and talked about the new window and then updated the quote. He left and called one time asking if I had any additional questions. I finally decided to pull the trigger and we ordered the windows. Even after the order I had several conversations with Joe about some concerns I had. He patiently answered all my questions and soon the time came to pick an install date. (I worry a lot). I requested an Andersen employee crew (personal preference) and we set a date. The day of the install, the crew of 2 pulled up on time and came to the door. One of the things I liked is that the crew took a little time to chat before getting started. They explained what they would be doing that day and what they would do the next. They also told me that some other Andersen employees would be coming by to observe the install and check on some changes they've been making (they asked If I minded which I didn't and yes all those people were great too). The crew leaders name was Rich and he had been with Andersen for 12 years. He had invented the z-channel method they use for doing full frame installations (lucky me!). I'm sorry I don't remember the other crew member's names (I'm bad with names). Rich and his crew went to work right away, one window at a time. First, they layed cloths over the carpet. Then they first verified the measurement of the new window. Next they went outside and used a utility knife to separate the caulking from the j-channel around the existing window. Then they cut out the existing window from the inside. They cut the window into pieces and then remove it one piece at a time. This was pretty cool to see as they don't touch your siding at all. Next they measured the rough opening (since the old window was removed to the studs), checked for any damage and then fabricated the aluminum z-channel in their truck. The z-channel was then installed behind the siding and flashing installed partially over the subsill. Then they caulk the z-channel and install the window from the inside. They were super careful with leveling the window and really took their time before it was fastened to the framing. They continued to replace our 4 upstairs windows and then Rich worked at finishing each of the installed windows while the other person (who was equally as good) began removing the other windows. I really marvelled at how efficient they were (my wife made the same comment as she was home the next day) I watched Rich finish the windows and the trim work was beautiful. There were several applications of non-expanding foam to seal it in the opening before the trim boards were installed. Then Rich installed masking behind where the window trim would be and finished off the trim (all mitered corners were perfect). They continued working that day and did 6 of the 9 windows (exactly what they said they would do). Before they left, all of the windows were carefully caulked on the outside (again a beautiful job). The next day Rich and his crew (with one more person) finished the remaining 3 windows. The cleaned up after themselves (vacuumed any debris) and installed smoke/CO detectors in every room (again a really nice job). The inspector showed up that afternoon and signed off on the permit. I am so pleased with both the windows and installation. From the salesperson (Joe) to Rich and his crew, everyone was hugely professional and completely cared that I would be satisfied with the install. They were quite friendly and didn't mind when I asked if I could watch an install. We had a minor issue with one screen and I was called the next day to schedule a tech to come fix it. I think Andersen makes an outstanding product (the new casement with the wood veneer looks like a wood window) and their service is wonderful. The installation is warranted for 5 years, the total window for 10 and the glass for 20. I see some others have knocked Andersen on price. I found that when I got quotes for comparable quality windows (Marvin, Sunrise) Andersen was very competitive. No, they don't compete with the $199 installers. But if that's what you want, you're asking the wrong people. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Renewal to anyone. Great experience.

We had 2 windows replaced and one larger window added. We had a full tear out vs replacement.
Description of Work: We had 3 windows that needed replacing as previous owner had replaced half of the windows with renewal before we moved in. We received estimates from one other company and after being turned off by their sales pitch we decided to wait for windows, however one window ended up getting broken so we had no choice but to replace. We contaced Renewal and had a great experience with the sales rep (Tim) who was not at all pushy. He explained everything to us in terms we could understand and provided a range of options for both windows and doors. We decided to replace our windows and got great financing. The windows came in right on the estimated date and were installed next day. The installers were very professional and friendly. They completed the work in several hours and did a great job. We asked to have the trim on one window left off as the wall had been torn apart to move electrical (we installed a bigger window). The installer cut the trim to size and left it for us wrapped in protective paper. After the wall was patched my husband realized that he did not have the correct tools to finish the work so I called the installer back and he willingly came back out and hung the trim for us. We had a great experience and are sooooo glad that we elected to go with Andersen over the other company. We intend to have our sliding glass doors replaced down the road by Andersen as well.

This is the second time that we have purchased from Renewal by Andersen. We were so happy with the deck doors that they replaced a few years ago that we did not even compare pricing this time because we knew we wanted to go with an Andersen window. We signed the contract and paid in full for the window on May 17 with the expectation that it may take two to three months for delivery. Andersen called in June and installed the window on June 17. The installation crew of two guys was courteous and careful about protecting the carpet all the way from the front door to our master bedroom. They arrived on time and finished the work without any issues. Except for the new window, we could not really tell that they had been here. I called the salesperson (Andy Woessner) about three concerns that we had: 1) I thought that the caulking job on the outside of the window was sloppy and unprofessional; 2) There was a very rough, sharp spot in one of the inside channels; and 3) During a windy night, the screen rattled off and on all night. Andy assured me that Andersen would take care of the problems. He came out himself around June 23 to inspect the job and said that he would have service come out to correct the caulking, fix the rough spot in the channel, and adjust the screen. That did happen on July 8, and all of these things were corrected to our satisfaction. We are very happy with the quality of the window but not as happy with the results of the staining as we were on our deck doors and still feel like the caulking job could be cleaner. To be fair, though, the caulking issue could be the result of unrealistic expectations on my part because it is a major deal to set a new window that size into an existing opening and we did not request that Wall Trends come back out to improve the finish on the window frame. After having these two jobs done by Andersen, we are very pleased with the quality of their windows and would likely hire them again, although we will probably get more than one bid the next time. Despite the problems, we are happy with the window and Andy's responsiveness to our concerns. In some ways, it is good that we had some problems because now we know that Andersen stands behind their work and cares about our satisfaction.
Description of Work: Andersen replaced our bedroom window which is a sliding window in an opening approximately 6 feet wide by 5 feet high. The windows have a "colonial grille" built into the window pane which makes them a little more expensive to manufacture. We also paid Andersen for the staining of the new window frame. This is a service that they contract out to another company (Wall Trends, Inc). We paid the full price of $2,045 to Andersen. This included $125 for the staining.

After we made a choice of products at the\\he showroom ,Chris Supan made a home visit to give us an estimate. He explained in details Renewal by Andersons procedures. Next step was a workman who did detailed msmts and then installation was scheduled. By law , special procedures were needed to avoid contamination since our old windows contained lead. Someone came out to set this up and then workman installed the windows and door in one day. Good clean up. Hard working and knowledgeable crew. The lock on the door was difficult to use at first so the crew arranged for a workman to come out and adjust it.

On both days, the outside temperature was -8 when the day started! Even so, the windows were replaced and insulated quickly and without affecting too much in the rest of the house. There was a little damage to the walls in the living room; in the course of removing the exterior trim (2 X 12 rough cedar window boxes and columns), the windows were pushed in and the sheetrock crumpled at the corners. The internal structure of the walls (not very solidly built) contributed to the damage. The installers were not able to correct the damage at the time, so we'll either need to hire that out or hope the one who comes to stain and finish the trim next week can do it. We've already noticed that there are not as many temperature variations throughout the house as there were before, and we don't hear as much traffic noise as before. The trimwork is impeccable. All in all, we are very satisfied.
