Description of Work: Robert Tennyson is a general contractor and has done or supervised numerous pieces of work for us since my husband and I moved to the Twin Cities. He sets up the project and oversees it meticulously until completed. He and his men have removed large trees from our property, replaced garage doors, painted trim, remedied roof and gutter problems, removed a storm-damaged fence/wall, put in sod and edging, as well as other smaller projects. He is a perfectionist, and is also very honest. He has done bathroom and kitchen renovations for many of our neighbors through the 30 years that he has been in business. If you have a problem Rob will spot it and take care of it. He provides up front estimates (free), and is very careful of your property. We highly recommend his services.

High marks! Rob is a consummate professional and a much-welcome “perfectionist” in his work—a contractor with a good eye combined with high-quality work and decades of experience. We moved to the Twin Cities two years ago, into a house that we really like but one that has needed several updates, repairs, and renovations. On the advice of our neighbors, we initially contacted Rob for some minor chimney and roof work and also to power?wash our siding and fading deck. Rob solved the problems quickly, courteously, and professionally, along the way providing all sorts of really helpful advice on other issues about which we had questions. From that initial work onward he immediately became our “go to” guy for any number of home repairs—and a trusted source for diagnosing repair or replacement issues down the road. He has now done a dozen or more jobs for us and we’ve never been disappointed: re-sealing up a basement shower, putting on new garage doors, lots of caulking and sealing, working with skylights, installing a new water heater (just in time! the old one was about to rust through), arranging for several large trees to be cut down, resodding part of the lawn, and so on. Rob also has a network of reliable workers—electricians, plumbers, landscapers, carpenters—that he sometimes calls upon to assist him in his work. We have found his responses to our phone calls to be timely (sometimes amazingly quick), his work to be excellent, and his prices to be competitive or even considerably lower than other places. We would certainly call upon him for future work on our house and yard.

Description of Work: THERE WAS NO WORK PERFORMED. I CONTACTED THIS CONTRACTOR WHO HAD FLYERS AT MY LOCAL HARDWARE STORE IN ROSEVILLE, MN. WHEN I EXPLAINED TO HIM THAT I WANTED WORK DONE ON MY DECK, HE TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD BE VERY EXPENSIVE AND THAT PERHAPS I HAD OTHER AREAS IN MY HOUSE THAT MIGHT NEED MORE IMMEDIATE ATTENTION. FOR EXAMPLE, HE ASKED TO SEE THE DOWNSTAIRS. HE PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT I SHOULD REPLACE MY PIPES DOWNSTAIRS, REPLACE MY HOTWATER HEATER, GET AN ELECTRICIAN TO REWIRE SOME THINGS IN MY HOUSE ETC. ALTHOUGH AT FIRST HE APPEARED TO BE CONCERNED AND HELPFUL, THAT WAS NOT MY EXPERIENCE. MY NEIGHBORS ASKED HIM TO COME OVER TO THEIR HOUSE BEFORE THEY KNEW OF MY EXPERIENCE, AND HE GIVE THE SAME ''SONG AND DANCE''. I NEVER DID GET A BID ON THE DECK THAT I HAD ORIGINALLY CALLED HIM TO LOOK AT. I ALSO CONTACTED A PLUMBER AND AN ELECTRICIAN AND THEY SAID MY HOTWATER HEATER AND PIPES AND WIRING WERE JUST FINE AND THAT IN THEIR OPINION, HE WAS JUST LOOKING FOR WORK AND MONEY.

Response from QUALITY RENOVATIONS & DESIGNS
RESPONSE: REGARDING THE DECK PROJECT, THIS HOMEOWNER HAD ALREADY HAD ANOTHER CONTRACTOR ADD ON TO AN EXISTING DECK, ONE YEAR PRIOR. THE WORK, MATERIALS AND DESIGN WAS OF THE POOREST QUALITY. I ASKED HER WHY SHE DIDN'T CALL THE PRIOR CONTRACTOR BACK TO MAKE THE CHANGES SHE NEEDED?(THERE MUST BE SOME SORT OF PROBLEM THERE). THERE WASN'T ANY GOOD OPTIONS LEFT FOR THIS DECK PROJECT REPAIR EXCEPT TO START ALL OVER AGAIN.(I KNOW THE HOMEOWNER DIDN'T WANT TO HEAR THAT). I TOLD THE HOMEOWNER I WOULD GIVE HER A FREE HOME EVALUATION AS THE HOUSE IS 45 YEARS OLD AND I KNOW WHAT PROBLEMS THE HOUSES IN ROSEVILLE HAVE. AFTER VIEWING THE PLUMBING AND ELECT. SERVICE, I DID SEE THAT THE HOUSE HAD THE ORIGINAL OLD GALV., PLUMBING WATER PIPES. SOME OF THE PIPE JOINTS SHOWED A LOT OF RUST AND CORROSION. REGARDING WATER HEATER, I ALWAYS RECOMMEND REPLACING WATER HEATERS AT 12 YEARS OLD (THIS IS GOOD PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE) HER WATER HEATER WAS MORE THAN 15 YEARS OLD. (NOTE: ASK MOST CONTRACTORS AND PLUMBERS AND THEY ALSO WILL STRONGLY RECOMMEND REPLACING OLD GALV. WATER LINES AND OLD WATER HEATERS, THIS IS GOOD PREVENTIVE HOME MAINTENANCE). REGARDING ELECT. SERVICE 45 YEARS OLD,AGAIN THIS IS IMPORTANT TO UPDATE FOR SAFETY. (CK WITH YOUR HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE, MOST WILL GIVE A BIG DISCOUNT FOR 7 YEARS IF YOU UPGRADE YOUR ELECT SERVICE, ITS THAT IMPORTANT). I DID NOT CHARGE FOR MY EVALUATION AND TIME. I DID NOT ASK FOR ANY MONEY AS A DOWN PAYMENT. I DID NOT ASK HER TO SIGN ANY SORT OF CONTRACT.
