+ -1 moreVery happy with their service. My garage door spring broke and I had no idea where to look. So, I posted on the Next Door app asking for suggestions. A couple of people suggested Nothern Door Company. I'm very happy I took their recommendations and called Nothern Door. The tech guy, Lance, came in the next day. Very friendly. He replaced the spring and tightened up the door hinges (the door is old and is falling apart) for a reasonable price. It was done in 30 minutes. I will definitely go back to them next time I need help with my garage door.

+ -1 moreThey called ahead of time like I asked. They arrived within the time frame they said they would. They replaced a circuit board instead of replacing the whole garage door opener. (some companies might have said that I needed a new opener, but not this company. They fixed it and I am happy. And it cost less to repair it than a new one. I have used them 4 to 5 times prior. For my own home (new opener, replace broken spring, routine maintenance). Plus a small apartment building has a new garage door opener installed by them. All the times of repairs or installation went very well.
Description of Work: Fix a garage door opener that just stopped working. It would not move, turn on, or even turn the light on or off.

+ -1 moreI had been having problems with my entry pad for several months. It worked only intermittently. Then, this weekend, it did not work at all. When I tried to recode it, everything was erased. Yesterday afternoon, when I called the company, one of the employees gave me directions on how to recode it myself without my having to pay for a service call. She was very patient and waited until I had gone through the procedure. When it still did not work, she set up an appointment with a technician for the earliest possible time I could be available today. The technician arrived right on schedule. He assessed the situation and discovered that not only was the key pad not working, but that the gear shaft had deteriorated and was dangerously close to crashing onto my car and the garage floor. He replaced both the gear shaft and the entry pad and then recoded the system for me. It took only 30 minutes - and gave me peace of mind!

+ 0 moreIn a word, perfectly. The vendor was able to exactly match the panels and make all the repairs, replacing only what was needed. Since I half expected to need an entirely new door (and then perhaps also replace the adjoining single door so it would match), I was very pleased that these folks were able to do some research and find the exact replacement panels (same color, too).
Description of Work: Son backed out of garage before double door had finished raising. Bottom two panels were damaged and needed to be replaced (to match existing) and damaged track repaired and adjusted.

+ -1 moreThey came with 24 hours notice and were half the price of the first company that we had contacted who said it would be $200 just for them to show up. The service man from Northern door listened closely to what we had done to diagnose and fix the problem. He then worked on it for less than an hour and fixed the problem by stabilizing the vertical runner on one side of the door.
Description of Work: Garage door would almost close but would then reverse and reopen. We made several attempts to fix it ourselves.

+ -1 moreArrived on time and quickly diagnosed the problem with our garage door was a broken torsion spring inside the tube spanning the top of the door. Offered to replace in kind (est. $200) or upgrade with a more robust "external" spring arrangement (est. $300). As the broken spring was only six years old, I decided to upgrade. They returned later that same day, as promised, with a two-man crew to replace the springs. While they were here, they lubricated the wheels and swapped two that were installed incorrectly by the home builder. The door is now quieter than ever. The technicians Ron and Lance were friendly, competent and fast. I would use Northern Door again (but secretly hope the need never arises)!
Description of Work: Diagnosed a non-functioning garage door and replaced the counter-balance springs.

+ -1 moreEverything went fine. I was very pleased with their quick response as there was a snow storm coming and I did not want to leave my cars in the driveway and my snowblower behind a door that wouldn't move. They did give me a discount for being a member of Angie's List.
Description of Work: Called at 7:30 in the morning. They were at my door by 9:15 the same morning and had everything fixed and done by 11:15 AM Our garage door wouldn't budge. My husband could see that one of the springs had broken. They replaced both springs and got the garage door moving again. When they were testing the repair they noticed the garage door opener gear housing had cracked and allowed the chain to slip (opener was over 20 years old). So I had them replace the garage door opener and put in a remoteless key entry too. They checked and were able to complete all of the work at one time.

+ -1 moreThe tech, Jim, was on time and explained that he would determine what the problem was and then I could decide if he should repair the opener or replace it. I appreciate that he didn't try to pressure me into replacing it even though it was 20 years old, as another company had. After checking it out, he told me the cost of the repairs and the cost a new opener would be and I decided to have the repairs done. The door has worked well since then.
Description of Work: Garage door opener was not working properly. I asked for an estimate to repair or a replacement if repair wasn't possible. Northern Door replaced the photo-eye safety sensors and got the opener to work.

+ -1 moreThe door would not close with the opener so I disconnected & had used it manually for several weeks. However, one very cold day it would not move at all & was stuck in an half open position. Because this happened on a Sat. afternoon I called other companies that gave estimates of $300 to come, I was delighted when Northern's quote was $150 for a call, plus for parts & labor. As it turned out, he didn't have the parts along but was able to oil the pulleys so the door could open/close. Then he promised to come back with them at a mutually convenient day/time without charging for another call. He kept his promise & things went well.
Description of Work: The pulleys nearest the door were worn & replaced. Safety cables were put in the springs. Parts were oiled. He described future changes that should be done.

He knew what was wrong and quickly replaced the part. He then lubed the door rollers and hinges and fine tuned the system. The door works better, and quieter, than it has for a long time.

Description of Work: Was leaving for work one morning and after pulling the car out, the garage door would not go down. Called a number of places that morning and Northern Door was able to make sure they could get someone out same day. The technician who came out was very helpful in determining what was wrong - the door had been put together fairly cheaply/shoddily before we bought he house (not enough struts and the shorter struts than needed to ensure the door wouldn't break). He had the parts we needed in his truck and took care of then and there. Unfortunately about a week later, the door would not open - called Northern Door and again they got someone out same day - this time it was not the door itself, but the gears in the actual motor that needed to be replaced - again got taken care of same day. Garage door is all good now although will most likely need to be replaced in total in a couple of years - I will call Northern Door first when the time comes.

During the installing of various things i.e new operator, keyless entry and and new remote they found that our main door was hanging on by a bolt. What was to be flushed to the wall was ready to either have killed one of us or broke through the car window's. They fixed it for free....on a Saturday. Very impressed with the company. We very much liked that they are local and family owned. They take great pride in customer satisfaction and it showed.
Description of Work: Installed a new operator on detached door. Installed 2 keyless pads and added a chain drive operator.

He discovered that a critter had eaten through a wire that had disabled the photo-eye, resulting in damage to the safety circuit and equipment. The technician quickly replaced the photo-eyes and the wiring, and completely fixed the trouble. This is the second time in six year that we have used NortherDoor, and we are big fans.

+ -1 moreOur garage door opener stopped working and I called Northern Door Company right away. Their technician was at our house in an hour which was great. He (Ron, I think... very nice) changed the resistance but mentioned that the memory board was on its last legs. That was not a surprise to us because we had a problem with our garage door opener about a year ago. We were charged $83.00 for the fix/service call which was very fair. About two weeks later our garage door opener completely quit. I called in the evening and the technician from Northern Door was there the next day. He replaced the garage door opener and it works great- - and so quiet!! They also reimbursed the $83.00 that we were charged two weeks prior. That was totally unexpected and greatly appreciated! We have been very pleased with our experience with Northern Door Co. and plan to contact them to install new garage doors in the next few months.

I was impressed with the knowledge and professionalism of the individual who came out (unfortunately, I have forgotten his name). Additionally, they were the only shop I talked to who could order doors in the color I needed (Terratone Bronze) Doors installed a couple of weeks later after the they were delivered. The installers did a GREAT job. I'm very happy with the doors and the service. Thank you!
