Nick's Chimney Service & Duct Cleaning

things went fine. I've used this company a couple of times and been pleased with their work, punctuality, etc. Just a minor issue is that I was charged more than the estimate (by a small amount) for recent work on the chimney, and there really was no explanation for it. Unfortunately, I'm coming to expect this in Minneapolis, which in comparison to other towns I've lived in, seems to be expensive when it comes to home maintenance and tradespeople.

Fast response, excellent work and cleanup. He explained everything we needed and what was wrong. After the job was done he said he would come out and inspect it in one year to make sure everything was still okay..

Showed up when they said, were courteous and cleaned up after the work was done, like they were never here!

They did a great job and totally cleaned up after themselves. We highly recommend them.

It was a fantastic experience. I called and they came out within 2 days. The two guys that showed up were the most polite and professional people I have worked with. They quickly diagnosed my needs and completed the repairs. They even took a picture of the fix for my records. They were such nice guys and I'm going to have them come do a fireplace inspection before winter arrives. A great experience!!!!

Fine. They made some recommendations that made sense.

A storm blew off the chimney rain cap. We called around to get estimates. We were given estimates of $300.00 plus . If roof was over one story or steep the cost would be higher. We were also told the wait could be 3 months. We left a message with Nick. He called back and said he would be in town tomorrow on another job in area and he would gladly reinstall it free of charge. They showed the next day after completing the job in the area.. I commented that we did a steep roof and their comment was no problem. I asked them to cement rain cap on as it has blown off before. He stated that could be an issue as for later cleaning. He talked to his associate and they decided to put cement on the screw. They felt this would prevent it from loosening up and the chimney rain cap could be removed for cleaning. It was in place in less than 5 minutes. They did not ask for any money or act as if they expected it. When we offered to pay, they said that it was not necessary, that they just wanted to give back to the neighborhood and it only took 5 minutes. We felt we owed them something and gave them a gratuity for their services.

Nick was responsive and showed up on time. The work was done right. Pleasure to work with.

My parents home had been sold but the buyers wanted to have the fireplace flue and insert cleaned and inspected. I selected Nick's because they used a video camera to inspect the flue. I should have asked if I would receive a copy of a good video when I scheduled the appointment. The camera is used but a video is only produced to show what is wrong with the flue not that everything was okay. I was truly expecting their report to include photos or video to show that the flue was good. This was a miss on my part. The only photos were of the insert being removed and the damaged brick. My parents installed the insert and maybe had 1 or 2 fires. So, I felt confident the flue was clean and this was the case. They had little work to complete other than taking the insert out and back in. I understood the insert was old and heavy so two people were needed for the job. They stated the flue and insert were good and the fireplace was safe to use. Their only recommendation was to have the bricks fixed on the chimney. I ask if this was urgent or needed to be repaired for the fireplace to be safe and they stated I could have it done whenever implying nothing was urgent. When I got the report back it stated the chimney needed to be repaired ASAP. This did not match up with what they told me verbally. It would have been okay if the report was just for me but this was for the buyers of the house. They now forced us into getting the chimney repaired before closing (2 weeks away). And instead of giving me a quote of what was needed to be repaired they gave me a quote to have the whole chimney torn down and rebuilt. To top it off they did not have time in their schedule to complete the work before closing. With the use of Angie's List I was able to find a different company who replaced the top 6 layers of brick instead of rebuilding the entire chimney for less than 1/2 the quote they provided and they were able to get it completed within a week.

They were fast thurough and tidy. No problems at all.

They arrived promptly, and did a great job. They checked the chimney from top to bottom and told us that the chimney may need work at the rooftop in the next few years but not immediately.

They came out on time, inspected and cleaned the chimney, got up on the roof and found the cap was bad and replaced that for an additional cost. We had a fire in the fireplaces afterwards and noticed a strong smoky odor in the basement and asked them to come out and double check that everything was. They did this at no cost and found that everything was fine, basement fireplaces are sometimes a bit smokier.

I contacted Nick's Chimney Service & Duct Cleaning to reschedule the appointment from the date that was emailed to me after purchasing the cleaning. Rescheduling the service appointment was easy enough, but on the day of the appointment Dan was a no-show. My call was returned about twenty minutes later and it was admitted that they forgot about the appointment. I was given the option of rescheduling or waiting an additional twenty minutes for them to arrive. I chose to wait and get the service done. There were two gentlemen and the cleaning was thorough. They suggested a few options for additional repairs that should be done to the chimney. If they had not completely forgotten about the appointment, I would have given them A's all around.

Nick's was very responsive to come out and place a chimney cap on. They made it out same day and even took off an old satellite dish. Would highly recommend!

Good Service! Got an Angie's List deal for inspect & clean. They recommended the cap and tuckpointing and explained why. Nick stopped by while the guys were working since he was in the neighborhood. Fast work and cleaned up well. No complaints!

Both Nick and Dan were incredibly professional, prompt, and accommodating. I was blown away by how responsive and flexible they were. I had specific needs due to the nature of the work being done and dealing with selling my house/new buyers. Dan was happily willing to meet all these needs and did so in an extremely timely and professional matter! I would highly recommend these guys to anyone needed chimney work!

We had just finished redoing some of the walls on our second floor when a flash flood caused some leaking to come through the ceiling. We determined that it was coming in only around the chimney and that that was where we needed to focus on the issue. I contacted Nick and he was able to come out the very next day. He inspected our 94 year old chimney and said that it was in very good condition, but it didn't have a cap on it (I swear it use to). He could not see were any leaks could be coming in other that the open top, but offered to reseal the flashing just in case. New cap and new flashing and the problem was solved. The whole thing took about 45 minutes.

Customer service was excellent. Team was punctual, sent me before and after pictures of work completed. work looks solid.

This was a good service and I would hire again.

Estimate was provided on 10/4/2014 when chimney cleaning was performed. On 11/2 I left a phone message asking if it was too late to have the crown coat done and that I also had some questions about the duct cleaning. On 11/3, Nick returned my call but I was not at home. Since I am not able to take calls at work, and it is difficult to make calls, I sent Nick an email with my questions on 11/4. When scheduling the chimney cleaning, Nick had been very responsive over email so I assumed this was a good method for communication. With no response after two weeks, on 11/18 I left a message on Nick's cellphone. In the message I mentioned that I could not take phone calls at work and that I had sent him an email. I asked him to please respond to my email. Instead, he called back 11 minutes later, but I could not take the call. He did not leave a message. He has not responded to the email. I was pleased with the service this company provided for my chimney cleaning and quite disappointed at this complete lack of communication. I will not hire them at this point simply because I cannot hire someone who will not answer questions regarding the estimate. Update 6/21/2015: I just noticed that the business owner (Nick) replied back in November a bit after I posted the review. I would like to comment on his reply: - Nick states that they did not have a timely response to my many inquiries - they actually had *no* response until my bad review and, even then, still did not contact me directly or answer my email. I do not know why I should have tried to call again when I had already called twice, sent an email, and clearly indicated that it was difficult for me to make telephone calls during business hours. Nick easily could have responded to my email to regain contact. - Nick comments that they made an exception to come to my home. If that was the case, he should have clearly stated that to me at the time of the service appointment, not use it as an excuse for poor communication after the fact. This is all simply a matter of lack of communication and lack of accountability. I had no problem with the work that was performed but I cannot arrange for further business without communication. If others have no problem dealing with this sort of situation and Nick's response to it, they should feel confident hiring this business.

Prior to the appointment, Nick was very good at responding to my email inquiry and scheduling the service. The workers arrived late, but completed the work quickly. Even though they appeared rushed they did take the time to talk to me and explain my options for further work. Price was slightly higher than other options.

I liked Dan who was my main contact for the job. He got back to me fairly quickly as I had a few questions before the service. I actually feel somewhat bad giving them a "B" but they left some equipment behind (rag, cement gun) and I think one of them was smoking while they were working which shouldn't be a factor but I am just not a fan of that when contractors are working (And I can't say for 100% certainty that he was smoking). They were the least expensive and were able to fit the job in quickly. Only time will tell if it is a quality job.

I bought one of the Angie's List deals. I scheduled the cleaning / inspection 2 months after the fact. Nick was right on time with a crew of two other men. They masked off the fireplace and were able to give me upfront information of some minor repair work that I could do myself at little cost. The firebox was scraped clean, vacuumed, brushed, etc. They also cleaned my lower level fireplace since they were here at the same discounted rate. Will contact again for future cleaning.
