Nick's Chimney Service & Duct Cleaning

I would never use anyone else for chimney sweep. I called on Monday after seeing their reviews and coupon on Angie's List because the sellers agreed to clean the chimneys if I found and managed the contractors, and I did not even know if the new house we bought is one or two chimneys with a fireplace on the 1st and in the basement. He contacted me immediately, explained how the systems are made separately, gave me a better price than if I had gone with a blind coupon (since I had 2) and scheduled me for Thursday at 10. Two men were there exactly at 10, and working before I even noticed. As the house is new and I had city inspection but not a private one, and as the chimney hadn't been cleaned in probably 4-5 years at least, I was prepared for any bad news that the chimneys would need work before we could use...as we are full time fireplace users as soon as possible through the season. Instead, he told me the chimneys were in perfect condition. He then gave me a lesson on the built in gadgets that would enable me to bring heat into the house. He said I had a top of the line cap, he praised the covers in the basement, he showed me safe removal of the ash with the built in ash box. In short, where he could have easily taken advantage of someone who didn't know anything, he did not take a dime more for a brick that wasn't needed. When they were done, they had been so careful with cleanliness of the house, I couldn't even tell my chimneys had been done, other than the insides were completely clean. He never tried to sell me extra services, they were so nice and helpful, prompt, quick, very fair on pricing...I can not imagine a more perfect experience. The seller owns multiple properties and was impressed enough that he paid direct and got their card. Getting your chimneys done may not seem like an exciting project, but in Minnesota it's a necessity, and really they were the perfect contractor. If they did anything but chimneys, I would use them, but in the meantime, I won't use anyone else for my future chimney cleanings. My suggestion- just call them directly- you can't get a better deal, and we were able to schedule for the exact day I wanted in the one call.

Nick was really easy to work with. We had some struggles intially on the schedule side but he was very responsive to work things out. The quality or work was excellent & they were very quick. Nick made sure that if there were any future issues or if we had any concerns to contact him. We would definitely work with him again & would have no problem with a referral.

Nick was a pleasure to work with. We had a rental that we were installing a gas insert into; the chimney must be swept before this can be done. I called two other chimney sweeps who were very difficult to deal with, then used Angie's List to find Nick. He answered his phone, and was able to come the next day. During the sweep he found maintenance issues (not surprising---we had just purchased the home as a foreclosure). He gave us a quote but let us make the call on the repair work-no hard sell. We went ahead with the work. He did a wonderful job, and even sent us before and after pictures via his phone. So nice to work with a contractor who can use technology! Since then we have had him do 2 more sweeps and one more repair. Always timely, nice, and does what he says he will do, when he says he will do it. We will continue to use him, and have his contact info in our phone!

Overall, the experience was excellent. Nick was very professional, and quick in completing his work. His price seemed reasonable. He was careful to lay down a tarp in front of the wood-burning stove, so as to avoid getting any soot on the floor. He took apart the section of pipe running from the stove to the wall and took it out to his van to clean it. One thing that I noticed immediately, and especially appreciated, was that Nick took off his shoes upon coming in the house. Unfortunately, his son (who helps with the chimney sweeping) did not. I think he may have tracked some soot in, but I can't be 100% certain as I don't see any obviously dirty spots on the carpet. I do see some spots, but I'm not sure if they were there before, or not, as the carpet in that room isn't in brand-new condition. Nick let me know that my chimney looks to be in pretty good shape, and gave me recommendations for how often I should have it cleaned. Essentially, he said that I don't need to have it cleaned very often, as long as I continue to use it only sporadically.

Nick was on time, professional, personable and very efficient. He (and his son) cleaned my fireplace and chimney better than any other service i have had in 18 years. I have a fireplace that is 100 years old and he removed all of the hardware and cleaned it, then inspected the chimney and cleaned that. He showed me where the cement floor in the fireplace had eroded and was crumbling in one area and offered to mix up cement and repair it. He also suggested a vent cap, which I agreed to. Both items were reasonably priced. He said the chimney was in great shape and asked if it had been rebuilt, which it has been several years ago. He did all of this in less than an hour. He did not suggest or push unneeded service as others have in the past. Great person, great service. I will certainly call Nick again and will highly recommend him to others.

Nick arrived 15 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment and went to work. Nick is very friendly and knowledgeable and gave us a detailed update on our fireplace and chimney. He made himself available for future concerns and questions, and I was able to reach Nick later in the day with a question that came to mind.

He was great and I will use them again in the future.

Nick and his crew are very professional and efficient. They cleaned the chimneys thoroughly, gave tips and how to keep them clean over time and showed what parts of the chimney require repair. They gave an estimate for the chimney repair while on site, which is exactly what I wanted. They also replaced the furnace chimney cover. They asked me before doing it and did it very cost effectively and switfly. I will most likely ask Nick and his crew back in the spring to do the chimney repairs since it's well past due. Great experience - best value I could find for a chimney sweep.

Nick took the time to fix the chimney cap for free and explained exactly how to keep my fireplaces in ship-shape. Great, friendly service. The charge was to sweep two fireplaces.

Nick was fabulous. He arrived on time, was very professional and did a great job. He started by asking whether we had an issues he should look into. I said no and then he spent the next hour cleaning both of our fireplaces and climbing on the roof to inspect our chimney. He told us our chimney was in great shape (always good to hear!) and fixed a few small issues (a chip in one of the fireplaces and adding adhesive to the loose cage on the top of the chimney). I would totally recommend him to anyone looking to get a chimney sweep in the Twin Cities. Not only is he nice and very professional, but he's also very affordable.

Everything went great. Nick arrived on time and did the best chimney cleaning we have had in several years. We have a two story home with a steep pitch shake roof and he cleaned each chimney from the top down and then cleaned out the bottom of each chimney. We have heat tubes at the top of one fireplace firebox and other services said they could not clean the smoke shelf on that chimney because of this. Other services we have used in the past either would not climb on the roof or charged extra because of the shakes. We asked Nick to put us on his list for next year when he is working in our area.

He's very knowledgeable and good at explaining what he was going to do--and showed me the amount of ashes he cleaned out. ((I burn about a cord of wood each winter--but wondered if 'cleaning out the system' was something that I could do on my own with a brush and drill.)) For what it costs to hire Nick versus climbing up on the roof--I'll continue to hire Nick!

We had not used the chimney since we purchased the house. Nick and his son arrived and inspected the chimney finding insulation that had been left to prevent cold air from getting in we guess. He found a few tiny cracks in the chimney cap and patched it with a little liquid cement and did not charge for it. He then tested for how well the fireplace drew smoke and also how much ash was in the trap. Fast, friendly service with added value, I highly recommend Nick's for fireplace/chimney service.

They did a good job and seemed really reliable. This was my first time using them and I would use them again in the future.

Nick is awesome to work with. His customer service skills are great. He came out for an estimate within 24 hours of my call, and told me what needed to be done and why. He scheduled the job the following week. It was a Saturday, so he called first to make sure he wasn't going to wake anyone up. He matched the brick color very closely (tough to do on older homes) and when he discovered that the chimney damage wasn't as great as he had thought he charged me less than the estimate. He did a great job cleaning up after the job. A fantastic experience all the way around.

Nick was running behind, but called me far enough in advance that I hadn't left work yet, showed up at the revised time and did what he said he'd do, leaving no mess.

The price was cheaper than the others. Cleaning the chimney isn't rocket science, so I went with the guy who provided me the least costly service, and that was Nick. He did a very efficient job. He wasn't lacking in quality.

I called in October to they were scheduling a month out. They called a day before to confirm and showed up as scheduled. We discussed the issue with smoke coming into the house and the glass doors covering the fireplace opening. He gave me a price to take care of everything and we went ahead with the plan. After the work was done which took a total of about 50 minutes he showed me a couple of features to the fireplace that i was unaware of. The work was perfect and Nick is a chararcter. It seems like a fairly easy process so I may try it myself next time but if you are not inclined that way then I would recomend this company.

I would give him high marks. He did an excellent job in tuckpointing my chimney. Others wanted to rebuild the entire chimney for 4 or 5 times the price so I was very relieved when he showed up and was able to do the job. It came out nice and I was really happy to have it all done because it was in terrible shape. I had been quoted $3,500 for a complete rebuild of the chimney. He came out right away to do the quote and gave me a price. Then he was able to come within a few days to do the work. He did a very good job and showed up when he said he would.

Just fine. I don't know if the price was high or low because I did not shop around. But he was extremely fast, efficient, ultra-courteous.
