Molly Mckinney Palettes

It went wonderful! Molly helped us choose perfect colors that pulled everything together. She "gets it" right away-- listens very well, asks good questions and has that amazing knack for 'reading' and explaining color. Money well spent (she was here for a bit over 2 hours).

Molly was right on time, looked professional, and came prepared with color swatches and other necessary materials to guide our session. I really enjoyed her personality and I felt comfortable as if I had known her for a while right from the beginning. Molly took the appropriate amount of time getting to know me and the home and she didn't forget to ask about my husband's preferences (as he couldn't attend the meeting). From there, we walked through each room, one by one, looking at paint colors and taking turns holding them up against the wall and discussing what colors will work together. I liked that she didn't just want me to be happy with the color, she provided real consulting and stood back, thinking of the big picture in mind, and made sure it worked and explained if it did or did not and why. She also took into consideration the architecture of my home and lighting to help select colors. I did not think it was possible to select colors for such a large portion of my house in 2 hours and we did it AND the best part is I'm confident about the colors we picked. Molly really made the process easy and efficient! Additionally, Molly gave me some really great advice on how to balance out my great room in terms of furniture and decor. That was a bonus and we are moving forward with her ideas on that. I've already hired my painter and we are moving forward with these colors! It will be done by Thanksgiving. I would recommend her to anyone. It was definitely worth the money! I'll post some pictures/give update in a few weeks when the project is done.

It was a great experience and worth every penny. We recently moved into our new home and after some minor remodeling it was time to paint. My husband and I were completely overwhelmed with what colors to choose... should we use warm or cool color, how do we create a flow, what will compliment the furniture, etc. We reached out to Molly who was very responsive and met with us the following weekend. Molly made the experience stress free - and helped us pick a great color palette that we just love! She definitely is an expert!

Molly was fantastic. The old house I bought had been painted in very bold colors, and every room needed to be covered. I was a bit overwhelmed. I told Molly I wanted to keep it simple with shades of gray. That sounds like a very easy task, but Molly demonstrated - with her impressive swatch book - how some grays are cooler, some warmer, and how they react to different light in various parts of the house, etc. Things I would not have given so much consideration. But I am glad I did. I have covered all the old color with the ones Molly helped me choose and could not be happier.

She arrived with a bunch of swatches and we got right to work. We had just remodeled our kitchen which ended up looking more modern than the rest of the house. I needed assistance picking a color (I like the gray tones) for my kitchen, as well as finding coordinating colors for the family room, dining room, and front hallway to bring them all up to date to match the modern feel of our kitchen, but to also honor the age of the home and the honey oak flooring. She listened to my tastes, and helped me determine colors, room by room. For the adjoining dining room and stairway wall in our front entry way she went bolder with color than I ever would have chosen on my own. But I trusted her suggestions and used her choices for all the rooms. I could not be more pleased, the colors look FANTASTIC! And they all go together so well! I am so pleased I consulted with Molly and I highly recommend her services as they are well worth it.

Molly scheduled a Saturday appointment which was very convenient for us. She asked us ahead of time any brands of colors we are interested in and brought color samples of those brands and others. Molly gave us very good suggestions and ideas which helped us immensely. We went with her ideas and love the colors. Will work with her again and recommend her any day.

Molly brought lots of paint swatches for us to look at and suggested several colors which she felt would work well. We chose one of her suggestions, and it looks fantastic. We would never have picked the color on our own. I would highly recommend Molly's services - well worth the money!

I have an older classic home undergoing some rehab work. Much of it was already repainted just last year. This year I rehabbed the first floor sitting room and stripped old wallpaper from other rooms. The wallpaper clashed horribly with everything else. So, how to do a new bold look that still fits in with the existing style? Here's where Molly stepped in. In short order, she quickly narrowed down the palette of options and helped me come up w/ a color scheme that can accent the individual rooms yet have them all tie together. She helped me think outside my box preconceptions. She even nailed down a bedroom color w/ my teenage daughter in 15 min flat! Amazing! Molly was a delight to work with. I would definitely use her services again.

We purchased our home in September 2013, and began a series of renovation projects. It is a quad-level home with an open floor plan, so multiple wall colors can be seen from many areas of the house. We feel so lucky to have found Molly on Angie's list. From the moment she walked into our home, it was clear she was not here to tell us what to do. She asked us about what we wanted to accomplish in our house with color, and the collaborative process began. We definitely wanted a variety of colors, so her expertise was incredibly valuable to us. My wife describes our experience with Molly like this "whenever Molly leaves, I always feel good about our house and what we are doing with colors. I love the way everything works together." We accomplished everything we set out to do with paint using Molly's great knowledge of colors and how they work in different situations. She saved us a great deal of time by getting colors right the first time. We learned a lot from her. Molly also helped our children (12, 15, 18) pick colors for their bedrooms. They all enjoyed the experience of working with her and how she used their ideas to create room color pallettes they really enjoy.

We were in the middle of getting all of our exterior trim painted and had to coordinate with green stucco. After making our painter put up several sample colors, we realized we were getting nowhere and called Molly with great urgency (hello, we already had a painter at our house and he was quickly wrapping up the prep work). We were so panicked, and Molly was so nice and helpful! She was able to come out to our house the same day we called. She just really knew her stuff. We were able to give a vague, rambling description of what we were going for, and she immediately started laying out options. She educated us about color choices, gave expert opinions, and was positive in the face of our anxiety. We greatly enjoyed working with her, and her help made our house project turn out better than we had imagined. I would absolutely work with her again, and I would recommend her to my friends and family. (Actually, I did recommend her to a family member who then decided to paint her entire house the same color instead of getting Molly's help... you can't help everyone I guess).

I contacted Molly for advice on a color palette for our family room, dining nook, kitchen, back and front hall, stairway and upstairs loft area. I was desperately looking for a neutral creamy yellow color for the large spaces and a coordinating color with more personality for a few smaller areas. We had already painted our front hall three times without successfully finding the right color. I had tried over 14 samples from the paint store and used larger drywall samples with a variety of colors. Never having this much trouble with other paint selection, I was unsure what to do. My first call to Molly was reassuring and we scheduled a consultation for a few days later. Molly arrived with the full library of color swatches from the paint store of my choosing. She was encouraging and considered our situation carefully before making her suggestions. We had settled on 3-4 different colors and needed assistance to sort through which would work best with our existing cabinets, furniture and complicated lighting situation. Molly chose two of our selected colors that she thought would work best for our spaces and wrote up a short report including swatches of the recommended colors. After Molly left, I was not fully convinced of the color selections as they were not what I initially wanted. But given the complicated lighting and existing colors in the room (cabinets, granite, furniture and carpet), we had to change our plans to make the whole room feel cohesive. We decided to use Molly's advice and painted our home the following weeks. I am so glad that we chose to use Molly's advice as both my husband and I love the results. Working with Molly was easy, comfortable and so helpful. It felt like working with a long term friend. She listened to my thoughts, asked questions about our tastes and gave feedback on our questions about color coordination. I would definitely use her expertise in the future and recommend her talent to friends and family members. Thank you again, Molly. It did turn out well.

I contacted Molly through Angie's List, and she called me back within a few hours. We had a brief conversation on the phone and then arranged to meet at my house a few days later. In the meantime, I emailed her some pictures of rooms and colors that I liked to give her an idea of what I was looking for. She arrived on time for our appointment and had already done a bit of work on color choices. She had previously asked me about the paint store I would use so she could focus her recommendations on specific brands. In a little under two hours, we selected a wall color and trim color for my kitchen, a wall color for my spare bedroom, a main and accent color for my master bedroom, and a new color for my master bathroom. I wanted a color scheme that would make sense and would bring some consistency to my entire house, and her choices worked perfectly for that. She made recommendations about what paint finish I should choose for each purpose (matte, satin, etc.). We even had time to select a trim color for the exterior that I will be using when I hire painters later this summer. Overall, this was an excellent experience. I had some doubts about the value of hiring someone just to help me choose colors, but I couldn't be more pleased with the good advice I got from Molly, and I intend to call her again when I'm ready to paint other rooms in my house.

Molly was great to work with. She was professional, quick to reply, and provided excellent recommendations to a very dingy and dark area within our home. The space now looks more modern, lively, and very comforting! Rather than going out this past weekend, we instead opted to relax within our newly painted area! It was wonderful. We'll definitely call Molly again for any other large painting project!

We had Molly help us select paint colors when we moved into our house. She was wonderful to work with and saved us so much time. We love the colors we picked out. She does a really nice job figuring out your personal tastes and working with you to pick colors that will transition nicely from room to room and work well with your trim, carpet, decor, etc. We will never go stand in a paint store trying to pick out our own paint colors again!

Molly was great! We were under the wire, trying to choose a color for our new family room and kitchen windows. We couldn't decide between painting our new windows white (matching the other windows in our house) or staining them dark to match the current woodwork in the rooms, which we didn't particularly like. I needed Molly to come out right away because we had only a few more days to make our final decision on window color ... before a 2014 price increase. Molly responded right away, and came out to our house the same day. We talked for an hour and a half about our options; she advised us on how to paint the family room -- and the kitchen -- so white windows would work. (She also gave us other creative ideas, such as adding capital molding to the top of our new windows.) The family room is especially challenging because it used to be a garage, with walls curving up to meet the ceiling.Now we know how to transform both our family room and kitchen into areas that complement the rest of our 1940s Cape Cod home. Molly was very thoughtful, extremely pleasant to work with, and she gave us great advice! I'll definitely use her again.

We knew we wanted to repaint the living room and foyer and we had a general idea where we wanted to go. Molly was helpful in coordinating the living room with the foyer and with our ideas of upcoming furniture purchases.

Molly was prompt. She was well prepared. I had been thinking of painting our 30 year old fireplace (as well as family room, hallway, kitchen and ceiling) She helped me make the decisions for color and whether to take a chance and paint the fireplace. (We did) . The painting is now complete and it looks lovely.

Molly was amazing to work with. Since we were moving into a larger space and didn't have much furniture, she helped us explore what colors we liked, and helped us select an entire color palette for all of the interior rooms, taking into account our future plans for each room. She was patient and made sure that the colors we selected were exactly right. We would have been lost without her guidance, and we get many compliments on our color choices! There is no way we could have picked the colors we did without her help, and we love the results!

Molly was tremendously helpful. We will always reach out to her when we need help selecting colors for our home.

We contacted Molly for paint color suggestions several years ago. We had previously chosen paint colors after much deliberation, only to find that the colors we chose on our own looked hideous. I agree with previous reviewer that using Molly was a great value. She gave us suggestions for our living room, dining room, hall and bathroom after a 1 hr consult, which was nothing compared to the hours and days I spent looking in magazines, going to paint stores, picking up paint chips etc in the past. It was a huge relief to get advice from an expert who could tell us what to do with our space. And several years later, the colors still look fantastic. I'd work with Molly again in a heartbeat!

Molly's service is a very practical expense when deciding on paint colors for the home. We had an idea of what we wanted, but Molly showed up with the paint chips from pretty much every paint manufacturer out there. We went from room-to-room talking about the look and feel that we wanted, and some colors that we had been considering. Molly took our comments, gave us some feedback and we started looking at different color combinations. We're using some fairly bold colors & we were afraid that rooms may not transition well from one to another, but with Molly's help, we're very happy with what we ended up with. Without her, we would have spent hours and hours going back and forth to the paint store trying to find the right colors. WELL WORTH IT! Thanks Molly!!!

Since I had never consulted with an interior decorator before, I had no idea what I was getting into. She arrived right on time and had everything she needed to do her job. She walked through every room of my house and didn't rush or delay (to make herself more money). We gave her ideas and she came up with what colors would work the best. I was very impressed with her professionalism and knowledge. I haven't painted yet, but have hired someone to start very soon.

Molly was responsive to our email and enthusiastic during our consult. We shared paint samples and pictures we'd collected, as well as roofing and siding brochures. She suggested that we get actual material roofing and Hardiboard samples to ensure that the colors in the brochures were the same as the products (the colors were off a little bit). She helped us determine our final color selections and where we would use an accent trim color. She was professional and personable--great to work with!

The process was very pleasant and Molly's suggestions were just what I was looking for. Very reasonable rates, especially considering the hours/days I would have spent trying to choose the colors myself. Highly recommended!
