It was a great job. To start with, they covered all furniture with plastic drop cloths and sealed off stairway additional plastic that allowed access to basement but kept dust out of rest of house. We knew a beam would be necessary, but were hoping a post would not be necessary. However, Peter determind that even with the beam, due to the rather unique (strange?) of our 1940's house a post was necessary, so he crafted a new post that resembled the existing newel post----as much as a floor to ceiling post can resemble a newel post. To install the i-beam, they constructed temporary walls on each side of the opening---to keep the ceiling (and the floor above it ) from collapsing or cracking before the existing wall supports could be removed. then the wall was removed , the i-beam installed, and the new post installed. After that, it was primarily a just the job to install the new doors and replicate the paneling where the wall, beds and closet had been removed. (Yes, as strange as it may seem, the basement family room had two built-in beds.) Importantly, we were always kept abreast of what was happening and why. When job was completed, the room was as clean as when the job started. All in all, we couldn't be happier with the result. We have used Martin Renovation in the past, and the results have always been perfect. They aren't the cheapest around, but they are far from being the most expensive. More importantly, they always do the job right and we never have to worry about something going wrong.
Description of Work: Tore out basement stairway wall (which required installation of 13 foot steel i-beam) and replaced with custom made bannister that exactly matched existing bannister on other side of steps; worked with electrician to reroute wiring from removed wall (electrician cost not included in contractor cost); replaced stairway treads with larger treads to accomodate larger space and bannister; removed 2 built-in beds and closet from basement family room and replaced with paneling to match existing; replaced 5 interior doors with new 6 panel doors; added paneling to expand existing paneling of fireplace surround; added ceiling cove around entire room.

We are very happy with his work, and the work of the subcontractors he brought in. We have an old house with plenty of surprises, and Peter kept us apprised of all situations and what exactly it meant to the timing & cost of the project. While he always had recommendations, he was very good at discussing options with us and making sure we (not he) made informed decisions. Peter was also very good at keeping the budget intact, and very resourceful in finding good sources of material and design ideas. We have used Peter for work on our house more than once and would not hesitate to do so again, or to recommend him to others.
Description of Work: Peter served as both our contractor and carpenter on a basement remodeling/waterproofing. We have an old house that had water issues, so the first task was waterproofing the basement by installing drain tile & a sump pump, sealing the walls and adding outside landscaping changes. Basement prep involved moving electric and plumbing, cleaning up foundation, installing a gas fireplace and new walls & flooring, etc. Being an old house, there were lots of surprises but Peter and his team took it all in stride.

They are excellent. They are wonderful. They are high quality craftsmanship. Their price quotes are very accurate. They are on time. They are here until the job is finished and you are happy with it. They cleaned up every day. They are very professional and they are very personable to be around.
Description of Work: I have used them multiple times. They put in French doors and some windows. They built a pergola and remodeled a kitchen in our other house. The price listed was for reworking a fence, building some platters and doing the pergola.

The project went very well. Peter and Bob discussed my options for the repairs, and they performed the work just as expected. Some adjustments needed to made along the way (the window has a different sized frame), and they made sure I understood what options I had and completed the work to my satisfaction. Peter's group is so easy to work with and very reasonably priced. Hiring a contractor is something I don't do very often, but the times I've hired Peter Martin and crew have been well worth it.
Description of Work: We had some damage to our garage due to a large tree falling on it. While not extensive, it involved the roof, the siding, and some truss damage. At the same time I had the garage window replaced with a larger one.

Peter Martin is a great guy to work with. We went over options, pricing and potential "problem" areas right up front. I knew exactly what to expect and when small problems came up (naturally), he quickly proposed solutions that left us in much better shape than when we started (finding no insulation in a section of wall is one example - it was quickly and effectively remedied). Peter and crew and arrived on time and used their time very efficiently. Each contractor involved provided effective and timely communication regarding each step in the process. They listened to my ideas and plans, then politely offered suggestions when appropriate. This was a non-standard installation in a non-standard house and little adjustments needed to be made along the way. The process went very well and the result is great! We're very happy with the outcome and as a bonus, met some really nice people. It's very rare for me to hire anyone for any home project. This is one time that I'm glad I did. The results certainly meet the standard of someone who grew up with master carpenters in the family.
Description of Work: Complete bathroom remodel including installation of bath/spa, custom cabinets and tiled walls and floor.

Fantastic. The couple of pieces they created fit the look-and-feel of the house and they did it very quickly.
Description of Work: While a much smaller project than their normal engagement, Martin Renovation Group created a custom flower box, designed and built a custom surround for a bathroom mirror and repaired of a couple of doors.

Although they were rather expensive, and the job was not completed when expected, Kramer and Martin did beautiful work. The addition blends seamlessly with the rest of the house. Their attention to detail is superb.
Description of Work: Kramer and Martin did a two-story addition to our 1905 home, with a new first-floor family room, half-bath, mudroom and screen porch. On the second floor they built a master suite with a new walk-in closet and full bath. They also contracted for a new roof, in-floor heat throughout, and several new storm windows.

WOW! IF YOU WANT WORLD-CLASS CRAFTSMEN WHO LISTEN AND DELIVER MORE THAN WHAT THEY PROMISE, CHOOSE KRAMER AND MARTIN. THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS, MY WIFE AND I WERE AMAZED BY THEIR ATTENTION TO DETAIL, FOLLOW-THROUGH ON PROMISES, AND PROFESSIONAL YET PERSONAL APPROACH. FROM DETAILS LIKE MATCHING THE EXISTING WOODWORK ON THE INSIDE OF THE HOUSE TO CREATING A PHENOMENAL KITCHEN TO BUILDING A WORK-OF-ART MASTER BATH, WE WERE BLOWN AWAY. WHEN WE HAD AN ANTIQUE USED FOR OUR MAIN VANITY, WITHOUT PROMPTING, THEY MATCHED THE ACCESS PANEL OF THE JACUZZI TO THE VANITY. IN A LARGE PROJECT, THERE'S A LOT OF ROOM FOR INTERPRETATION IN THE DETAILS. THEY ERRED ON THE SIDE OF BEING TOO GENEROUS IN OUR FAVOR. FROM ADDING MOLDING OVER DOOR WAYS (THAT WEREN'T EVEN PART OF THE PROJECT) TO FIXING OLD LOCKS THAT FAILED TO WORK, THEY ALWAYS WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND EXPECTATIONS. I RECOMMEND THEM HIGHLY WITHOUT RESERVATION.
Description of Work: KRAMER & MARTIN COMPLETED A TWO STORY ADDITION ON OUR HOME AND AN EXTENSIVE RENOVATION ON OUR KITCHEN. IN THE ADDITION, THEY ADDED TWO BATHROOMS, A HEARTH ROOM, AND A MUD ROOM. THE KITCHEN WAS A COMPLETE REMODEL. IN ADDITION, THEY DID EXTENSIVE WORK THROUGHOUT THE HOME INCLUDING RAISING A SAGGING FLOOR AND CEILING, REBUILDING A FIREPLACE, ADDING CENTRAL A/C, AND RE-ROOFING THE HOUSE.
