Before Moving - searching for movers When I was looking for various movers and comparing prices, I spoke to a lot of movers and got quotes from every one and this included John, the owner of this company and he was offering to give me a good deal and persuaded me to give him a chance no matter what. He was extremely pushy and wanted me to give him business. He was ready to price match with his competitors. Based on his instance and good ratings in Angie's list, I decided to give them a chance. It was decided that he will charge me 95$ per hour with a minimum of 3 hours and there will be no extra cost for truck and 5% discount if I paid by cash. He wanted the business and he got it. After the deal was finalized, I emailed him our discussion on phone and I have a written email from him confirming the details and agreeing to them. Now the actual move day... The Move On the day of my move, it was forecast to rain and John was flexible to prepone my move by a couple of hours. His movers came on time and were extremely courteous and professional. They took good care of all my stuff and had all the tools to move smoothly without breaking/cracking anything. The move went extremely smooth, on time and the guys were good. The bad experience After the move was complete, one of the movers, came with a final bill and was asking for 60$ for the truck on top of the 95$ per hour(he was not aware of my discussion with John). So we called John to clarify the situation. John first refused to acknowledge that we decided to not have the truck charges. After asking him to check his email and the what he had agreed upon, he still wanted me to pay 50% of the truck charges which I might have had he been a little respectful. He called me cheap and abused me when talking to his mover (I could hear it on the speaker phone). This is the only part that I was really sad about. Overall good experience except for the unprofessional attitude and abusive behavior of this owner. I paid them cash and did not even ask for the 5% discount and tipped the 2 movers generously, however being abused was definitely not something I was looking forward to. Overall Experience I would definitely rate their movers to be punctual, professional, experienced and good. If John was not so unprofessional in the end, I would easily recommend them again. If you plan to go with them, I would suggest to have everything in written like I did, so he does not get a chance to say "I don't remember" and he hopefully honors his own words and behaves respectfully with customers.

Lighthouse Moving takes their business very serious and professional. Each box and piece of furniture was handled with care. They arrived on time, loaded and unloaded within a reasonable amount of time. The movers were courteous, careful and performed professionally. I would recommend them to anyone looking to move.

I got them from Angie's List. They were very courteous and efficient. They worked really hard; it was hot. They did a good job.

When I called, John (the owner) answered. He was very polite and said he'd send 2 guys (with dollies and moving straps) at 11am. The cost is $20 trip charge and $80/hr with a 2 hr min. The guys were right on time and I was so glad they spoke English! It's hard to tell someone where to put things if they don't understand you. They even offered to help set up the beds if time allowed. They were really careful with handling everything, although there was slight damage to some woodwork. Not really their fault, though--there was a tight corner to get my box spring through. Unfortunately, they had another job to get to and didn't have time to set up the 2 beds. They were apologetic and polite and I'd definitely use Lighthouse Moving in the future. The only suggestion I have is regarding the receipt. The guy wrote his calculations of time and cost on a plain white sheet of paper. For tax purposes, it would be nice to have the company logo, or something more official as documentation. Since I paid in cash, I don't have any other proof of this tax-deductible expense.

After much research my husband and I decided to rent a truck from Penske for our move to Texas. I went over Penske's size estimator, to be sure of the truck size we need to rent, four times; each time it came up with a 16 foot truck. I went over the estimator one more time the day before our move as I knew exactly how many boxes and what sizes they were. Because we weren't moving our whole household and Penske's were the professionals I called and rented a 16 foot truck. On moving day John Hathaway from Lighthouse Movers arrived with a crew of two. They did a walk through with my husband and John declared that a 16 foot would not be large enough. Here we were, ready to load, and we had the wrong size vehicle. I called Penske and thankfully they had a 22 foot truck available. While my husband went to exchange trucks John and his crew went right to work, wrapping furniture and carrying boxes out to the driveway. Once the larger truck was in place John and his crew were amazing with the job they did getting everything safely settled inside. They worked SO hard and I never heard one complaint. The two men working with John were very polite and careful with our belongings. At the end, it was a bit doubtful if the last few things would fit, but they worked miracles and there was even room for us to take our grill. Some of our items were damaged, but we blame that on the instability of the truck. We would never hesitate to recommend John Hathaway and Lighthouse movers!

Owner was very nice. He came to check how things were going.

We subcontracted through this company to mail an family heirloom bookcase from the Twin Cities to Cape Cod, MA. We actually paid the UPS store to box it up for us, which cost about $300. They did a very good custom job and then this company shipped it as a partial shipment. It worked well. They said they'd pick the box up within a month and deliver it within a week of the time it shipped. The timeframe was not important to me: that it arrived in sound shape was and it all worked well. I'd definitely use this company again. The subcontracted company was named Mini-Moves.

This was a short sale move and as such the closing date was planned several times before the actual move. This included a cancel that had to be done 3 hours before the close. Finally when I called 2 days before the move, John Hathaway, the owner was on the ball and made sure that the move he had been canceled on repeatedly happened without a hitch. The move was smooth as any move could possibly be. The men that helped us worked very hard and were extremely careful with my things. John, from Lighthouse moving was sympathetic to the "short sale " process and never gave me a hard time about having to cancel, or charge me anymore. If I had to move again, I would call Lighthouse Moving. These guys were AWESOME!

They were good. The job went excellent, very well. They were available which was really good. They were cooperative and professional. They got the job done.

Light House moving was great. Professional, reasonable in price and willing to do the hard work. I actually used them twice last week because I was so impressed with their willingness to just do the job. They scheduled me in on short notice and were early rather than late to their appointments. Excellent all the way around.

They were professional and handled my stuff very well, and their response was quick. The guys showed up, but they were not all wearing the same T-shirt, so their professionalism was not topnotch in that sense. They were punctual and worked hard. I have used them in the past and would use them again in the future if necessary.

The estimate I received was very off. The estimate was 3 to 4 hours, but it took 7. However, the workers did a good job. They worked efficiently and were careful with our things. One thing that made me nervous about the company, but ended up being ok, was that I called to schedule the service over a month before the move. Then I got a call a couple of weeks later (on Friday night) asking me what day I wanted to move, so I told them the day I had requested a couple of weeks before. Then I received another message a week later asking me to confirm. I called back and confirmed. They need better recordkeeping so that they don't have to keep calling customers to confirm. This is an expensive and time sensitive service, they shouldn't have to second guess after a customer makes a clear reservation. The movers ended up showing up on time the day I scheduled, so all was well.

He didn’t charge me anything extra and had a very good crew. He is very conscientious and prompt. He was reasonably priced and did a very good job. I like his services and will use the same in future.

showed up an hour and a half late (arrived at 9:30) loaded truck in such a way they couldn't fit all of possesions, damaged/scratched walls and furniture and doors in both the old apartment and new house. finished at 1:15, but even though movers disapperad for a half hour lunch, then claimed I owed for 4 hours. they weren't the worst movers I have ever had, but not the best either.

Prompt responses, accurate estimates, hardworking movers, and willingness to be flexible.

From the first time that I contacted the owner to get a quote I felt comforatable. The guys showed up on time, ready to work; they were proffessional and friendly. It took them (3 guys + me and a helper) about 4 hours to unload all of the boxes and furniture from the semi. They may not be the lowest price, but this is a case where you get what you pay for - I will call Lighthouse Moving the next time that I move.

I am trying to get a house ready to sell. There were some large items that were not in good condition, and I wanted them thrown away. I called Lighthouse Moving, and John Hathaway and his crew came to the house. Unfortunately, I forgot to get the house ready ahead of time to make it easy for them to get to the various items and haul them away. They made me feel comfortable and insisted that it was no big deal that they had to help me move lots of items out of the way first. This added more time to the project, but they didn't seem to mind. This was an easy company to deal with. I will use their services in the future.

Overall using them was an ok experience, but just OK. The movers did show up when they said they would and they worked quickly, however, they were not gentle and their is a fair amount of damage done to my furniture. I would use them again if what I was moving wasn't valuable because they are very affordable.

I was so appreciative of Cary and John for being extremely careful not to damage my walls, etc. Plus, the two of them were very nice. I highly recommend them and will use them again the next time I need a mover in the Twin Cities of Minnesota.

I couldn't be more happy with John's professionalism, positive attitude and price. This is the third move he's done for us, and I'm sure it won't be his last. When the long dresser had a hard time going up the narrow stairs (our house was built in 1910), he and his assistant tried several angles before finding just the right one that won't mar the walls. After they put everything in the right place, he even disposed of the old broken bed frame.

I was pretty disappointed. The night before the move, the owner called me and started questioning my ability to pay, wanting employment and bank history, and then asked if I could get enough cash to cover the move before the next morning. I told him he should have notified me before if it was a cash business. He agreed to accept a local check. The guys showed up half an hour late and the owner was not answering his phone. They moved our items, but there was damage to the floors, the walls, and the items. I was charged for 4 hours of work when it was 3-1/2 and a trip fee that I was not told about ahead of time. He wanted the check made out to him personally, rather than the company. Afterward, he did not return my calls regarding the damage.

They did a fabulous job. They were very professional and very courteous. Nothing got damaged. I would recommend them to anyone in a heartbeat. Not only the owner was courteous, the entire crew was.

Called for a quote and he told me honestly, that he could do the piano move, but it would be cheaper to call an "official" piano mover since they usually have the stronger guys on hand. All in all he's not a paino mover, but he was honest, so I will call him if I need to move in the future.

Responded promptly to first e-mail. Then I started receiving political e-mails from the piano mover. I requested that I be removed from the political e-mails list. I haven't heard from him since.

John and his workers were professional and respectful from start to finish. His bid was significantly less than his competitors and included moving a piano and hauling unwanted items to the dump. We have many older antique items and our freshly painted walls and hardwood floors were unscratched. It's a real joy to deal with someone who takes such pride and care with their work!
