We had them put a metal roof on our home with the understanding that it would be the last roof we would ever need. With the last storm that went through our area, we found two roof tiles on the ground with a third on becoming dislodged. I have been working for the better part a 3 weeks trying to get on their schedule to come put the tiles back on and to check the rest of the roof for damages. I have not been able to get them to help me, so I thought I would go to the physical location listen on the internet for their company. The address brought me to a corn field attached to the University of Minnesota. I then called them again and they were not answering their phone. So, I decided to file a complaint with the BBB. Soon after, I got a call stating that they would be at our home some time this week. They did not show up, nor did they call. So, I do not recommend using this company.

Job went fine. Had follow up issues that did not. Interlock Roofing took almost a year to fix an issue of a hole in shingle caused by improper installation. Dozens of calls and emails went unanswered. Multiple times they set up times to fix and never came or called to cancel. I now have another issue and they have been a no show for over a year. I filed a BBB complaint against them. Do not hire them. If you have an issue with the roof you will regret having their roof installed.
Description of Work: Had roof replaced with aluminum shingles.

We knew we had a tough job ahead of us with our roof. It's a big roof, high from the ground with a very steep pitch. It had three layers of asphalt shingle over the original, 110 year old cedar shake and no plywood decking. Our chimney needed to be torn down. And we're on a typical Chicago sized lot - so a crew would have little space to work. Every estimator I had come out told me as much as they took their measurements. I kept hearing, "this is a big project" over and over and over again. The experience just getting estimates was painful enough that we decided we never want to have to put on a roof again. Peter from Interlock came out and gave us an estimate for their product. While it was much higher than what we would have paid for an asphalt shingle roof, it wasn't completely out of the ballpark of the more thorough estimates we were receiving. The reviews of the product are excellent and the photos Peter shared of completed homes were beautiful and totally normal looking homes. It's a product you see on mansions and on suburban split levels. We loved the look, the idea that we'll never have to roof again, and the information about how a metal roof could actually help keep our second floor cooler in the summer. We were told we'd be looking at a 4-6 week lead time on getting the product manufactured and to our house. We were surprised when they showed up in 3. We had the slightest hiccup with our town's building department that delayed the start by 4 days (someone at the town hall went on vacation and forgot to finish our building permit before leaving!). They installers were phenomenal. The crew lead, Jesse, listened to our concerns and carefully explained each step of the process. He was genuinely interested in ensuring that the roof turned out perfect, the team did good work, and that we were happy. The entire team of workers were extremely courteous and hard working. They worked quickly and efficiently to strip the entire roof. Each night, they cleaned up the entire worksite. When bad weather was heading our way, they worked extra time to ensure that our house would be completely waterproof. We could not be happier with our new roof and our experience with Interlock. The installers were top notch, the product is fantastic. People keep stopping to look at our roof and ask what it is.
Description of Work: Performed a complete tear off of 4 layers on our roof, tore down chimney above roofline, installed roof decking, ice and water barrier, roofing felt, and black-slate-look aluminum shingle.

All their materials are made by Interlock, and they don't use outside contractors. We have a lifetime guarantee on the roof, and no other competitors offer that. They were very professional, and you can't beat the lifetime guarantee.

I was very nervous about hiring them. Interlock has had substantial legal troubles in other states and Canada (though not in Minnesota). I was very pleasantly surprised. The workers were pleasant and polite, they maintained a clean work environment and were very speedy. I am also pleased with the product. The roof was finished shortly before the major hail storm that came through and it was no louder than my asphalt roof was. When I went into the attic to look for leaks, I didn't see any. I have received many compliments on the appearance of the roof. I agreed to not say how much I paid for it, but it was about three times the cost of an asphalt roof. However, it includes a 50-year, *transferable* warranty, so I should never have to roof again. To me, the extra cost has been worth it. So my experience since the roof was installed, has been unpleasant. They are not responsive to calls. For example, my roof started leaking weeks ago I have called multiple times and sent messages through the website to no response. Meanwhile my roof leaks, I do not recommend hiring this company.
Description of Work: Replace existing asphalt roof and replace with aluminum Interlock shingles on 1961 rambler. I agreed not to disclose how much I paid.

Hi [member name removed], Whenever investing in something as important and big as our homes, it is natural to be cautious. Great to hear that you are satisfied with the product, service and appearance. Interlock has been operating for several years across North America, positively making a difference for countless customers. With that many projects, some claims are an unpleasant part of the operations. Even on those cases, we aim to come to agreements and do what is right. Thank you for sharing your good experience with our team. Cheers, Carlos

No question the PRODUCT is the best on the market. Not the COMPANY. Our dreadful experience can't be expressed in 1000 characters. They probably don't provide horrendously bad service to everyone, so you can take your chances. When we signed the salesman told us he'd fix any issues during construction, not true; he just yelled at the absentee job foreman, (who told us he had 6 other jobs in the Cities), who then yelled at the site supervisor/laborers, when our issues were never with them! The salesman said it was a 3-day job, it took 5 weeks because he did not order enough materials (or so we were told, we never got an honest answer), our roof was bare for a month, when we called the aforementioned foreman when our bare roof started leaking, he did not answer or return our calls. You don't expect that kind of difficulty for $26,000. It was VERY hard to tell who worked for whom (and not only due to the language barrier); despite interlock assuring us they do not subcontract.

Hello [member name removed], It doesn’t matter how many projects we take in, we strive to deliver each one with exceptional value. Sorry that, this time, the service may have been below your expectations. Hearing that you recognize the quality of the product is great – I hope that, on the long term, that is what stays from choosing our company. Best regards, Carlos

THIS IS A DISPUTE IN PROGRESS. WE SIGNED A CONTRACT IN SEPTEMBER FOR A NEW ROOF FOR OUR HOUSE. WORKMEN BEGAN LAYING THE NEW ROOF THEN STOPPED. EVENTUALLY THEY ADMITTED THEY HAD NOT RECEIVED A BUILDING PERMIT. WE FOUND OUT THE BUILDING INSPECTOR WAS CONCERNED WHETHER THEY HAD PROPER LICENSES. WHEN WE TRIED TO VERIFY ON OUR OWN THEY WOULD NOT OR COULD NOT PROVE THEY WERE LICENSED. THE SALESMAN HAD PROMISED ALL WORK WOULD BE DONE BY TRAINED FACTORY EMPLOYEES. IT'S NOT CLEAR WHETHER THE WORKMEN IN TWIN CITIES ARE EMPLOYEES OR SUBCONTRACTORS. ON THIS SAME ISSUE OF LICENSURE, A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE HAS QUESTIONED WHETHER THE CONTRACT IS VALID. WE ARE CURRENTLY IN A WAITING STATE WONDERING IF THEY ARE COMPETENT OR IF THEY WILL COMPLETE THE WORK.

Regarding this job, we would like to clarify some of the facts. The only permit pending was related to the installation of skylights, which in the state of MN requires a different approval. Skylights are not one of the Interlock products but they were part of the customer’s original project. In order to follow his project, our teams checked the local building codes for approval, which delayed the work. Our team had all other licenses and permits required. The customer decided to cancel the job.
All statements concerning insurance, licenses, and bonds are informational only, and are self-reported. Since insurance, licenses and bonds can expire and can be cancelled, homeowners should always check such information for themselves.
