Hoffman Weber Construction

We called Hoffman Weber Construction for a quote for a new roof. We received a prompt phone call and their salesman came right out to look at our roof. He gave us a quote and we agreed to the service. He called a few days later to let us know that with an eagle view of our house, the quote was too high, so they cut the cost by several thousand dollars. Their crew came out and worked on our roof during the coldest days in January. Everything about this experience was pleasurable and professional. We will certainly recommend Hoffman Weber. I only rated their price as good - but we did not receive quotes from anyone else, so I cannot compare their cost to any other company. I certainly feel we were given a very fair price.

We met one time. He presented his ideas. He had good ideas and was passionate.

Some of the positives: Prices seemed reasonable (I grew up in a family business that does construction so I was somewhat knowledgeable in this). Randy Schenk was our project manager and was always great to answer phone calls and get issues resolved quickly. Some of the negatives: 1. The time between accepting their bid, and the time it took to get started was over a month! Not necessary. We almost dropped them at that point. 2. We had some gutter problems (leaking onto our front porch) we noticed shortly after they were installed. The subs HW hired came to inspect and didn't even get out of the car or ring our doorbell. HW later told us they "didn't see anything wrong". Obviously. It would be hard to see the gutters from the road! HW says they will fix our gutters as soon as the weather warms up. We hope this is true! 3. Three months after construction was finished on our home I received a lien notice in the mail from a sub-contractor they hired to do our siding. It appears they were not paying their sub-contractors on time. Even though we had paid them in full, the law holds home owners responsible for unpaid work, even if it is the general contractor who is negligent. Luckily, I had saved all the closing documents from HW and they had included a lien release that meant we could not have any liens placed on labor or parts used in the work done on our home. I'm not sure how this would work for homeowners paying through loans or with insurance. These documents quickly released us from any legal or financial obligations, but I would warn others that Hoffman Weber has financial issues that have not been cleared up with their sub-contractors. Not a good sign.

I purchased the big deal from October for a Basement Remodel Design and Consultation. The initial responsiveness was quite quick, and we soon set a time for a representative to come to my house and look at my basement. Upon his arrival, I explained that I had recently purchased the house and would be getting married shortly, so money was tight, but I wanted a bid on the whole basement remodel as well as just limiting it to a lower level bathroom. My expectation from the description of the purchase as well as the meeting was that I would receive a basic plan outlining a basic design ( for $25 my expectations were not high) and an estimate on them completing the work. The man spent time listening to what I want and I mentioned that because of the wedding I would be happy to complete some of the work myself and use them for more difficult portions. He explained that this probably would not be optimal for a variety of reasons and that was fine. A buddy of mine came over and I let the rep take measurements and he said he would contact me shortly. I never heard back from him. At first, I assumed they were just busy with the Big Deal purchasers, and with the holidays, I wasn't in a hurry and was quite swamped myself. However, after the first of the year I still had not heard back and had begun receiving review requests from this site. I started writing this review and paused because I figured it would be more fair to reach out to the company and see what was going on. I shot off an email and very shortly heard back from the person that had come to the house. He was not super clear as to why nothing had ever been done and was very unclear about what I was expecting. I referenced the Angie's List Big Deal and that I hoped for something in return for my $25 as opposed just an in-home visit that I expect once could get for free. Between the two of us we jogged each other's memories about the visit and he seemed to recall the appointment. He said he did not have his notes at that time, but would look for them at home and try to get something worked out for me. I still have never heard back. ***Update 3-2-2013*** I feel it is important to be as fair minded as possible. The company eventually had the original consultant get back again. He admited he dropped the ball and I appreciate that honesty. I received an estimate for the basement and bathroom. While late is better than never, I am surprised that this cost me the price of the big deal. While it wasn't much money, I think measurements and estimates are generally free and was expecting a little more. Someone else did leave me a message a few weeks ago while I was at work, but honestly I've been busy with wedding planning and this is no longer a priority.

The service went well overall. They obtained the permits needed and their work passed the inspection. They were responsive anytime I had questions and were flexible with the scheduling. I had a couple of concerns and they came out right away. I would recommend them!

The service went pretty well overall. They offered better product than most other companies do; their vinyl siding is thicker and more durable. They took the time to explain everything to us and did a great job!

The experience was good overall! I had no complaints. They were really focused on getting the work done right and cleaned up around the home quite well. There was no landscaping damage and they did a good job!

They were awesome! They took care of everything from start to finish. They cleaned up after themselves and did a great job.

The sales representative worked laboriously with the insurance company and the outcome was most satisfactory. The quality of materials were excellent and the workmanship was outstanding. The project took several extra weeks to complete due to many reasons, but I really did not care. The only complaint I had was that one of the windows was not on the insurance claim and I told them to repair it...a piece of weather sashing about two feet long. The rep said they would submit it to the insurance company as having been overlooked by the appraiser. Long story short, the insurance has a minimum amount they allow for window repair, in this instance the price was $193 to replace a four foot strip of sashing on the side of one window that was cracked from hail. The worker came out with the strips of vinyl and repaired the windows. I ended up having to pay for the 2 ft window replacement vinyl and was charged an additional $193. I thought it was a bit extreme to charge me that much since the guy was already there for the window covered by insurance and this was such a big project. I talked with the rep about it and he did what he could, which ended up that the company would refund me a portion of the charge...$93. So overall they did an extremely good job and the house looks great!

The replacement of the door was done quickly and efficiently. The exterior finish was well done and we are extremely pleased with the results. However, the interior finish work took a couple of times to complete. The first time the sheetrock wasn't done up to the standards expected and left a visible seam. After contacting the company and a short delay, a second person was sent to fix the issue. Looked very good but when I went to paint, the sheetrock mud repair peeled off in a couple of places. Had to repair this and repeat the painting process. Waited over a month for the final bill and only after I contacted them.

Dennis was punctual and very thorough. We explained what we were looking for and how we needed the estimates to look, according to the financing application. Dennis was very easy to talk to, asked lots of questions, measured every window (some twice), explained the products the company used and where they were manufactured. He explained in detail why he recommended certain products and even told us where we really didn't need to go higher priced. The salesperson, Dennis hand delivered the estimate the next day. It was complete in what we had asked for, detailed, no unexpected surprises and reasonably priced. The screen porch project estimate wasn't exactly what I had in mind, but I really didn't provide enough descriptive details. When Dennis heard that part of project was incorrect, he called his carpenter while I was standing there to explain the differences. That changed bid was emailed to me within a day or two. About a week or so afterwards, we called Dennis with some questions that we needed clarification on. He provided us with a direct number so that we could reach him quicker rather than go through the main office which took longer. I don't know when we will be able to make a choice with proper financing but due to Dennis, HW is already many extra points ahead of other companies we have talked to. I had to call the other two companies to ask when the estimates would be provided and when finally received, they left out parts of the project and gave estimates that included casement windows which I had adamantly said I did not want! Thanks Dennis, you are a great rep for HW.

The shingles and materials arrived at about the same time as the team arrived. I had a final look at the color (fine) while about a half dozen of them were on the roof pulling off the old stuff. The lead guy said that they might be able to get some money back on the old ones and they would check into it. The roofing went pretty fast. they were done with my one story rambler in one day. They worked at protecting the spring plants and at cleaning up after themselves. they sent someone to do the gutters a couple days later. they were professional and worked with me to be sure they were using the correct color downspouts. Within a week they were done with roof & gutters and the place was neat and clean.

Vendor showed up late for initial property inspection and quotation. Never heard from them again - did not provide the promised quotation and no follow up was received. Would not recommend.

The guy showed up on time for his appointment, it sounded like he didn't get information about what I wanted a quote about, he didn't have window samples or anything. After spending 30 minutes measuring my windows he said that it would take a couple days to get a quote together. I was pretty disappointed that he couldn't put together a quote right there. I told him I already had a quote and he spoke very poorly of the company that gave me the quote and he did so in a way that he clearly didn't have his facts straight. He said someone from Hoffman Weber would get back to me in a couple of days with the quote and I still have not heard from them. A disappointing waste of time.

The job was done in one day! Glad to get it over with

I filled out a contact form on their website, http://www.hwconstruction.com/contact, describing our need for roofing and windows but never heard back.

I chose Hoffman Weber because I felt that they would do the best job of being an advocate for me with my insurance company to get a new roof. Other contractors that I talked to did not give me that same sense of security. I was able to get my roof covered by insurance. They had execellent communication throughout the process, were very quick to schedule my new roof installation, and cleaned up well. No complaints at all. I would work with them again and recommend them to others.

I thought Topher and Mike were honest and professional. They walked me through the whole process and took care of all of the details for me so I would not have to do anything. I had a "fly by night" roofer put a roof on my home in 2007 and they did not do a great job. Consequently, I had a lot of leakage and parts of my roof actually fell into my livingroom. Topher came out very quickly to assess the damages and helped me to realize the most economical way to get my roof fixed quickly and safely. He brought Mike out to help get a second opinion and then wrote a stellar report for me to use in my law suit against the former company. They did all of this out of true concern for my family, never asking for a dime up front or trying to "confuse" me into making any unnecessary repairs. I will be them to install my siding and windows next. Topher took a great deal of his valuable time to make sure that I understood exactly what the process was, the materials that were being used, and that he would be managing the project himself. I felt like although he was a stranger, that he treated the project as if I were family. I have never been this impressed with a contractor before. I would recommend this company very highly.

They provided a detailed estimate at a competitive price. I have signed the contract and the roof will be installed in ~1 month. Will add detail of how the install goes at that time. So far so good.

Hoffman Weber came out to give us estimates for our front door and side light, two patio doors and 9 windows. On the first appointment, the sales person took an hour to go through his whole presentation. He set another appointment up the following Monday so that he could go through the estimate with us. Monday came and he called to reschedule to Wednesday. On Wednesday, a different representative came out and had none of our information-not even our phone number. Needless to say he didn't have any information on the services that we were looking at having done. So, I went through the whole process again. He promised a quote via email within a few days. It has now been over two months. I just got a call from Hoffman Weber wondering if we wanted them to come out to do an estimate for hail damage. My response to the caller was, "We have a history with Hoffman Weber..." and he said, "Oh boy!" like he wasn't at all surprised that there would be a complaint. I do not recommend doing business with this company.

Overall it was great. The only bad thing was that it was an in convience. That goes without saying on any construction job. I had to park my car outside a few days and we could not mow the grass when it needed it because their tools and ladders were on the lawn.

I had an unpleasant experience with the sales person who came out to do the estimate. Upon knowledge of this experience someone from the company called, listened patiently to my story and said the matter would be looked into. Within a week, I received another call reporting how the sales division was restructured (someone was actually fired) and how this part of the company would be monitored so the experience I had could not be repeated. Such prompt and consequential action and the serious attention paid to my complaints is testimony to a company striving to do good work. Even though I ended up using another roofer I can only imagine that if this kind of care is any reflection on how the rest of Hoffman Webber works, I would have to give them high marks. I have changed my original feedback because of this amazing service.

I was out mowing my lawn when I was approached by a Hoffman Weber Construction representative. I'll admit, my first thought was "Oh no....a salesman". I found instead that "Dennis" was not a high pressure salesman at all. He merely asked if there was any type of construction work that needed to be done at our home. When I expressed interest in a quote on siding, he told me that he saw I was busy and set up an appointment for a salesman to return to my residence a few days later. Dennis was pleasant and I was impressed that he was perceptive enough to see that I was running out of daylight to get my mowing done. A small thing perhaps, but I would later find that Hoffman Weber even notices the small things. The Hoffman Weber salesman was Topher Lee. He arrived precisely at the scheduled time, accompanied by a new salesman that was being trained in. Within minutes of talking to Topher, we could see why Hoffman Weber would have him training in new staff. Having Topher in our home was like inviting over a good friend. He certainly put us at ease and addressed every concern we came up with. He stayed with us for several hours to make sure we understood every part of the process and to ensure we would feel comfortable with our decision. It was obvious that customer service is a high priority with Hoffman Weber. We signed our contract that night and made our down payment. We've had a lot of rain this spring, which created some difficulties in scheduling the work. They still managed to meet the target date of May 1st. The dumpster and siding material were delivered a few days before the crew came and they were placed exactly where I asked them to. The crew, John and Richard, were great guys. We tried to stay out of their way as much as possible, but when we had questions, they would stop and address the question immediately. They didn't make us feel like we were in their way at all. Additionally, when they had a question regarding a specific spot on our home, and how we wanted it done, they asked us. They finished the job in four days and made sure we were satisfied with everything before they cleaned up and left. They also told us that even if we find something we're not happy with, months from now, to just call and they will come back to address it. Knowing how important Customer Service is to them, I have no doubt they will honor that promise. I would recommend Hoffman Weber to anyone needing their services. Whether it's siding, roofing or whatever aspect of construction you need. Their personnel is top notch and really cares about how their customers feel. I also know, because they mentioned it several times, that they are extremely proud of their "A" rating on Angie's List. There is no doubt in our minds that they've earned that rating and strive to keep it.

Hoffman Webber construction is the best company we have had work on our house. They helped us get through the insurance process effortlessly. They took care of everything, from dealing with the insurance company (that was a big deal) to installing the windows, gutters, soffit, facia and roof. They are fast and clean up beautifully. You wouldn't know they had worked on the house. Adam really when to bat for us.The insurance company only wanted to replace the front half of the shingles on our house since the tree limb only hit the front. After getting the front done the back half didn't match the front as well as Adam thought it should. He fought for us to get the back half done as well. My big concern with the roof was that the front and the back would have a 11 year different on it. We also had water come in a basement window do to the gutters being compomised from the tree limb. The insurance company didn't want to pay to replace the carpet since the water came in throught the window and we don't have flood insurance on our house. After Adam made many phone calls (on our behalf) we did give compensated for the carpet. Hire this company, they will work very hard for you and get the job done right.

I couldn't be more happy with my experience with Hoffman-Weber: from my initial interaction with the super-friendly and informative Topher to Mike and Juan during the actual roofing process -- I always felt our home was in good hands. They were able to start and complete the job much earlier than expected and was the job was done beautifully. The crew was incredibly efficient and talented and I have yet to discover a single nail in our yard. AWESOME! It is such a relief to know the work is guaranteed and this winter we won't be concerned about the possibilities of ice dams (as we have the past two years). Peace of mind is a good thing.
