We have had a horrible experience with this company. They installed vinyl flooring in our lower level 10 months ago. All was well until we noticed a residue appearing between the vinyl planks. After research on my part, I learned that installers are supposed to test the concrete slab for moisture, and if necessary, install a vapor barrier or seal the floor. They did no testing even though it states clearly in the product’s installation manual to do so. The company was very slow to respond to the issue. It took seven weeks to even get someone to come and look at the situation. They tried to explain it away as a leaky basement. That is not the case. Our drainage system is working perfectly. They simply did not do their due diligence before the installation. When asked about it, they stated that they “see this all the time.” Well, perhaps as the flooring experts, you could have taken steps to avoid this issue. After further discussion, they recommended that I remove all the flooring, seal the floor and reinstall it myself. This lack of accountability on their part is unacceptable. They have simply ignored my repeated attempts to work with them to solve the problem. In general, this company does not back up their work and does not respond to problems. This is the worst experience I have ever had with a contractor. Do not do business with this company.

Unfortunately not good. This past spring, I contacted Hamernick's regarding carpet that had previously been replaced by them in 2013. The carpet, good for high traffic areas, had worn poorly and had considerable matting in the high traffic areas. I discussed options with Sales Representative Jodi Poole and she offered me a client discount that would be applied once I had selected new carpet for my worn areas and as a perk I included more carpet purchased as I would be having my basement living area done at the same time. Shortly after agreeing upon this approach, I made the trip to Hamernick's to look and select the carpet. The selection and quality at Hamernick's is great! I believe they have one of the best selections of flooring in the metro area. I decided upon two carpets and provided a deposit (half) to order. We then discussed scheduling and if one or two days would be required due to the size of the job. Jodi assured me that it would be done in one day with two crews. I received a call when the carpet had arrived for scheduling. I asked, are we still good for one day two crew installation? Answer, yes! Great, Friday July 10th. I had mentioned to Jodi and the scheduling team that the areas that would need to be torn out and the moving of furniture would be done by me so the installers could just install. The day before installation I contact Hamernick's to confirm the day and time. Scheduling informs me, with a slight attitude, that the installer is coming and should be there between 8-10am. Later that day, around 130pm, I receive another call from scheduling informing me that the installers are behind and to now expect them between 10-11am. I ask; "both crews?" Scheduling then informs me that it's no longer two crews but just one crew. I must say, I was worried! A two crew job for one day just became a half day with one crew. I contacted Jodi and she stated that the installer, Desmund, is fantastic and will most likely be earlier than planned. Any problems... Call. Installation day arrives, 1115am, no call and no installers. I contact Hamernick's and ask, "where are they at?" Scheduling didn't know but they would call them; would I like a call back? Ah.. Yes. I never received a call back! One installer arrives for prep work around noon. Seeing most of the prep was done he decides to put in nail strips in the basement for carpet but he doesn't have the tools to do that. That individual leaves to go back to another job and help Desmund. I immediately contact Jodi. Hamernick's informs me that she has taken the day off and no one from the office will contact her on my behalf. I again speak with scheduling and they are absolutely clueless. Late afternoon, I receive a call from the installer. He just finished in Mendota Heights, doesn't have any of my carpet, will need to return to St. Paul, then he'll make the trip to my place; would it be ok if they could reschedule! WHAT! They ended up arriving around 430pm and installed only the living room carpet and pad for the upstairs stairway. I decided to cancel my weekend plans so if they could come Saturday, I would be available. Desmund agrees but he changes his estimated arrival multiple times. On Saturday I contact Hamernick's and Jodi answers the phone. I tell her my mind. She seems upset, shocked, and asks to call me back in order to find out whats going on. She calls back and informs me that Desmund is on his way and he will finish and do a great job. If any other problems arise to contact her directly on her cell. Desmund arrives Saturday afternoon. Carpet is installed, looks good, and the installers have no vacuum to clean up so, I do the "rough" clean up. 16 days later I receive a follow up call from Jodi. Just so happens the bill has already arrived and no apology for the mess. Slightly upset! As I mentioned earlier, Hamernick's have a great selection of flooring. I would consider purchasing again from them but, I would require a written agreement on the terms of installation or find and hire a professional installer myself. Unfortunately, the customer isn't given the courtesy and respect of their time that they should be given by the scheduling department at Hamernick's.

Just like I expected. Jodi was great to deal with, knew the product line well. Everything went on time and installers did a great job. Many compliments from friends and neighbors. It is a large area, so it took a day and a half. A couple of weeks later we discovered one of the pocket doors wouldn't slide over the metal finishing strip. Jodi sent a repair person the very next day. Very satisfied with everything. Long time family owned local business doing fine quality work.

The installer for the vinyl floor was awful. He was rude and threatened to move the washer and dryer alone and said if they broke Hamernicks could just buy me new ones. The install job was terrible. He cut the vinyl around the drain and it looks like crap. He did not clean up left pieces all over the floor and glue also. I asked to be compensated and was told I would get the floor replaced. Nope they said the drain had to stay that way it's the floor and we should get a drain cover. So the vinyl is already coming unglued after one week. I will never go back there again. I also had to paint my dining room after the installers left. Black marks all over the walls.

I found Hamernick by word of mouth. They came recommended to me by my sister-in-law whose company does commercial business with them. Their sales guy, Chris, came out to the house promptly and gave a comprehensive bid just a day or two later. He even offered some design ideas that we ended up using and are super happy with. The do have a retail showroom and the ladies there were helpful in helping us find carpet, tile, and grout colors that were complementary. Hamernick first installed the new carpet. It took them less than a day. They came out the following day as I noticed the sewer clean-out they carpeted over (intentionally) felt loose. They took care of that. So far we have not had any issues whatsoever with it. A different crew then came out and built our new shower. Ed did a great job and was very helpful. He was happy to do other things in the bathroom (a little drywall patching, and pouring some concrete to cover up some plumbing work). He did not ask for recompense but I tipped him for it anyway. The shower tile work is good, though not perfect. I am happy with it, especially for the price. They also installed floor tile in the bathroom and hallway and that turned out beautifully. Everyone at Hamernick was pleasant to deal with, and professional. I recommend them!

Our first job with Hamernick's was small; carpeting one room. We were so impressed by their sales staff and installation that we will be including them in three more remodel projects in our home, over the next year. The cost of service reflects the estimate of the next project which will begin in approximately three weeks.
Description of Work: We had contracted with another carpet provider who failed us. Within 24 hours, Hamernick's responded to our carpet needs and git the installation into the schedule.

Our experience at Hamernick's storefront was fine. They have a large selection, and our salesperson, Jenny, was knowledgeable. She pretty much responded to our calls although she said she'd inspect the carpet when it came in to the warehouse and let us know that it was good but she must have forgotten to call. She set up the installation appointment once the carpet was in and another person followed through to make the final arrangements. The fellow who came and measured the floor was quick and pleasant. On 1/12, the carpet layers were supposed to arrive between 8 an 9 but did not arrive until well after 10. I had to call Hamernick's to ask what was going on. They had some excuse about the roads (it had snowed but not that much.) Two guys came to start moving furniture (my husband and I did most of it ourselves before hand but some items were too large for me to manage). They did not damage anything and did a good job reassembling what they took apart. Then they started ripping out carpet, and another guy joined them. They were very nice fellows. HOWEVER -- they would have gotten the job done a lot more quickly if they didn't spend so much taking personal calls on their cell/smart phones. Things sure have changed from when people just came and did their work and made their phone calls elsewhere. The guys didn't vacuum along the very edges, between the wall and the tack strip, once the carpet was removed. So I made them wait while I did so. It bugged me to think they'd leave all the old staples and bits of carpet and dust there and just hide it. They used big metal ice scrapers to scrape out the old staples in the wood floor. They did a moderate job and said the carpet pad would cover the staples they didn't get. I don't buy that because many staples had worked their way through our old pad and I could feel the lumps underfoot. So I pulled some of the staples on my own (and wished I had the time to go through each room to get them all) did more vacuuming as I didn't feel the sweeping they did got all the crud up. The actual carpet installation went fine. Our bedrooms aren't very large and when it came to the bedrooms, it was interesting to see how they moved the large furniture from side to side or shuffled items from unfinished room to finished room back to finished room. They vacuumed and cleaned up after themselves. The other thing that bothered me was the fact that our salesperson from Hamernick's never called to check up on how things went, to see if we liked the carpet or to find out if there were any questions. We never got any carpet care information. All we got was the bill. My mom had used Hamernick's a few years ago and had an entirely different experience with a salesperson who was very involved, and that is the reason why we chose Hamernick's over the other companies. So they were OK but I don't think we'll use Hamernick's again. I like to feel a company appreciates it when we spend $6000 at their store. I love our carpet anyway. It's Smartstrand by Mohawk and really really soft and a joy to walk on.

Went to the outlet center and expected to pay less but was surprised that the bottom line installed price was higher then the most expensive competitor. They use subcontractor for the installation (but never told us that at the purchase) and the installors were very disappointing. Did not show up on time. Did not have all the supplies they needed to finish the job. Arranged for carpet to be stretched over padding because I cannot tolerate smell of glue but glue was use anyhow to attach wood strips and edges of the padding. Had to get out of the house for a day due to the glue smell. Installer was polite but left nails in our driveway. Subcontractor had added expenses that were charged to our VISA after the fact without our consent. We feel that we were totally misled for the beginning of our experience. That being said the installed carpet is very nice.

It was the worst experience I ever gone through with a company. They didn’t use a bonding agent so the wires for the heated floor floated to the top of the cement. After six weeks of letting it dry, they put another layer over it and it didn’t work. Instead, it cracked and popped. They had to rip it up and during the process they damaged two of my walls with their equipment. I paid over $1,000 for an electrical company to come and put the electrical up for the heated floors and install a thermostat and fuse box. Now I am out of that cost since the floor has been ripped up and the heated ones have not been installed. Each time I called them to advise them of the troubles, they would be upset with me and wouldn’t return my calls for a couple of days. I also had a lot of trouble with the workers being neat and clean. They put cigarette butts out in my driveway and their vehicles leaked oil. They didn’t even order the flooring until two days before the work was scheduled to be done. It was horrid from the way they did the scheduling to the quality of the work. I did end up getting all of my money back but for the damages. They did hire another contractor to lay the flooring in the bathroom only. This is the worst nightmare of an experience I have ever gone through with a contractor.

They were referred to us by our realtor, who said they have worked with them for years with only great reports. We did not have the best experience with Hamernicks. She actually failed to show up for two Saturday appointments! The first time I called her an hour after the appointment and she acted like it was my fault, that her calendard showed a different day. The next time I talked with her, she was more apologetic. On the next appointment, I couldn't be there so she met with my wife at our house. She showed her carpet samples, but some reason didn't want to talk about paint, even though we intended to paint our entire house. She wrote up a quote for carpet and after calling around we realized it was a great price, so we were strongly leaning toward using them, despite how flaky she had been. I can't remember the details of the second appointment, except that she failed to show up again. When the time got closer to doing the work, I was talking with her and she said she made a mistake on the quote and it was going to be much higher than she said. It was more than some other quotes, so at that point there was no reason to go with them for carpet or paint. We found another carpet vendor on Angies List and they really took care of us. For paint we used a local guy that was also a referral from our realtor. He helped us pick out paint and we didn't deal with a store directly.
Description of Work: We only called for quotes on carpet and paint. We did not have them do any service.

They were excellent. We had them do a large carpeting job. We went to two or three different places and they gave us the best price. They were professional and helpful. The crew moved all my furnishings from my main rooms on to the balcony. When they were through they piled everything in the middle of my living room. This included my stove, my kitchen table which was buried under a pile of stuff and some kitchen cabinets. They came back the next day to complete the job- they needed to finish the bedroom and had given me a 2 day time frame, so they did give me an accurate estimate on time to complete the job. They again piled everything on my balcony. I wasn't given a specific time the job would be done, so I returned around 3:00 PM. The crew had finished. My bed was standing against the wall and the dresser drawers were facing the wall. When the foreman was around, things seemed to go smoothly, but left to their own devices the 2 workers seemed to forget that they were working in someones home and were more interested in just getting the job done. On a positive note, once the foreman arrived, they made a plan to fill in some gaps in my sub floor and level out some unevenness and the workers followed through. When I discussed this directly with the workers I essentially got no response. They were pretty conscientious about sweeping up the endless piles of sawdust, but they left red chalk hand prints and smudges all over my walls. When I complained to the foreman about the shambles of my place after it was done, the workers returned and put the stove and cabinets in the kitchen, put the kitchen table in the right spot, turned my dresser around so I could open the drawers and set up the bed. I had covered my couches with plastic drapes to keep them cleaner. The bottoms of the couches are chalk stained and full of sawdust.

THE HARDWOOD INSTALLATION WENT WELL. WE PAYED EXTRA FOR FLOORING UNDER THE REFRIGERATOR, WHICH THEY FAILED TO DO. WHEN THEY CAME PACK TO DO THE WORK UNDER THE APPLIANCE, WE FOUND A SLIT, AND IT TOOK FOURTH MONTHS TO GET THEM TO FIX THIS. WHEN I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE DELAY, THEY PUT A LIEN ON OUR HOME.
