I hired Shane to mow my yard in the spring and summer. I told him that I did not want him to use the leaf blower because those things are so loud. He asked what he was supposed to do with the stuff that needed to be blown and I said just leave it. Less work. I paid him extra to bag the lawn clippings instead of leaving it on the ground. One day I happened to be there when he was doing the lawn and he was using the leaf blower. I reminded him that I didn't want it used. He asked again what he was supposed to do with the stuff and again I said to just leave it. From then on when he came to mow if I was home he refused to look at me. He also started leaving the gate open which had I not noticed would have let my dogs out of the yard. Towards the end of the season he sent a group email to his customers offering a fall clean up, lawn aeration, and winter snow shoveling. I contacted him about aeration and after a while he replied that he wasn't offering that service. Well then why did he send the email doing just that? Then I hurt my back and knew I would not be able to rake my yard so I hired him for that. When he showed up to do it he missed part of my back yard which had the most leaves and also must have used a leaf grinder or something that scattered wood chips from one area of my yard probaby 3 yards out into the yard and also pulled up the plastic edging at two seams. When I mentioned these problems to him he said the edging hadn't been put down correctly which I do not believe - it had been down just fine until he ran his machine over it. He complained "You don't allow me to use the correct equipment so it's hard to meet your demands. The whole summer was tough." Again - leaving the clippings instead of blowing them would be less work not more. I had to hire a neighborhood college student to clean up after the "fall clean up" and had to pay for that. The job he did was far superior to what Shane's machine did and a lot cheaper. I will also have to pay the landscaper to come back and get the edging back in. I didn't think I should have had to pay Shane until I knew how much it was going to cost from the college student and from the landscaping company. He made a mess and should have to take responsibility for it. But when I delayed paying he threatened me that he was going to start charging me interest so I went ahead and paid him. But it still annoys me how unprofessional he and the work he did both were. He also said he would not offer services to me next year, that he had good prices and did a good job. The mowing was fine but the "fall clean up" was not and I think he should make good on the extra I had to pay and will have to pay to clean up after him.
