I brought in my snow blower because it wouldn't start. Without looking at it he told me I needed a tune up and new carburetor because the carburetor was a "cheap Chinese carburetor". I thought he said it would cost $169.00. He also said that parts were extra. I didn't really hear that because I was thinking the $169.00 was on the high side and was deciding whether to leave it there or take it some where else. Not only did I think the $169.00 was high, I was concerned that he thought I needed a new carburetor without even looking at it. Finally decided to leave it and let him fix it. When I picked it up the bill was approximately $270.00. I was really upset and he said look at the sheet of paper I gave you that had the prices on it. Yes it said parts were extra. When I questioned the cost of the prices of the parts he said all parts had to be marked up because the rent for his shop was very high. Bottom line : make sure you read the sheet of paper he gives you describing the services and costs associated with them. The quality of work was good but not being a mechanic I have no idea whether he could overhauled the carburetor or not. Financially it is to his benefit to replace the part rather then fix it. One last thing he makes a big deal about desiring to be paid in cash. Wonder why that is? So he doesn't have to report it on his taxes?

Went good. Mr. Bauer picked snow thrower up around the time he said he would & told me it would be done by end of day-6 pm. He dropped it off a little after 6 pm. & started snow thrower to show that it ran. Very happy it started after one prime & pull which it never did even when was first purchased. Mr. Bauer added a few tips on running the gas out at the end of season.
Description of Work: Cleaned carburetor, replaced paddles, scraper, & spark plug on Toro snow thrower. Did a test run. Picked up & delivered same day.

The lawn mower had been used the previous 5 seasons (since new) without any service and ran fine but I thought it might be time to have the oil changed, blades sharpened and general tune-up. They cleaned up the mower nicely, but it seemed a bit expensive to me considering the mower didn't cost a whole lot more than what I paid for this service. The mower has had more problems starting than prior to the service being done. I would have expected the mower to run the same or better for what I spent to have it "tuned up."

I had a garden rake on which one of the welds that holds the rake to the frame had come loose. And I had a pry bar on which the weld that holds the cap on the top end had been partially broken. He spot welded both of them, which now seem to be secure. The welds are rough and he did not clean them up with a grinder or file. The provider had not been in the shop when I dropped them off. His wife was managing the business and she gave me a date to pick them up and an estimated price of $15 - $20. It was a very neat and organized shop. Anyway, the tools were ready on time, but his price was $25. Again, he was not there when I picked up my equipment.

My mower died in the middle of mowing my very long lawn. I called around and most places were 10 days to 2 weeks for repairs. I called Gregies and he said he could do it in a day. I brought my mower in at about 2 pm and it was done by 6 that same day. I used it the next night, and it runs better than it did the day I bought it. The self propulsion was amazing! It's never performed like that! The cost was a little more than I'd wanted to pay, but I certainly got the speed and quality that I needed to make up for it. I now have my small engine repair guy for life.

I called Gregie and was told he would start on the repair/tune-up within the next 24 hours. Less than 24 hours after I dropped the mower off at his shop in St. Paul, I got a call to pick up the mower. He told me that a standard tune up, oil change, new air filter, and sharpening of the blade was all that was needed. It started right up, so no work on the carburetor was needed. Charge was $99 for service and about $20 for parts plus tax. The quick turn around time, significantly better performance, and fairness of price for service received was much appreciated. I plan to use Gregie again for future service on my small engine tools, as needed. Thank You!
Description of Work: Lawn mower had been used approximately 6 - 7 times this season, but would not start when I tried to use it last week. I cleaned the air filter and checked connectivity of spark plug, cleaned the underside of the cutting deck. Still would not start. I called several service providers, but was told I would have to wait for 10+ days for service.

After replacing the spark plug, oil, and gas, I was past my depth in getting my Briggs and Straton Craftsman push mower to turn over. I had my wife drop this off at Gregie's and he had called within 1 day and returned the mower repaired within 2 days. The mower works like new and I was really pleased with the communication and price.

Our lawnmower was sputtering out black fumes and making funny noises which made us nervous, so we took it over to Gregie's on a Saturday. He gave us some upfront ideas on what the costs would be for maintenance and parts. On Monday, we got a call that it was complete! He explained what the problem was and told us not to overfill it with oil - oops! We hadn't had the mower tuned-up or performed any type of maintenance in about 3-4 years, so we were due for some help. Really good experience - definitely recommend.

I needed the snowblower picked up in the west metro and delivered to the NE metro. I knew this was a big unusual and that I would need to pay extra for the distance. However, Gregies laughed at me when I asked and told me they wouldn't do that. It was not professional at all. It's not like I was asking for delivery to North Dakota. Why not just quote me a high enough price to make it worth your time and let me decide if it's worth it? BTW, I did find other companies willing to accommodate and I paid $100 for the delivery service.

I bought a house last summer and with it inherited a self-propelled Craftsman mower. The Beast had obviously had a rough life but worked passingly well, even if the original color was a bit of a mystery & edge of the blade looked like an EKG. The starter rope broke near the end of autumn, and on this model it's not simply a matter of taking off the engine cover to replace the rope. Per the manufacturer's manual, multiple rivets need to be drilled-out, & then the entire starter assembly replaced. I thought I'd just replace the old thing, but decided to call around for repair estimates first. The first few shops I called said it would be 7-10 days until they could start the work. When I called Gregie's he said that the dramatic measures weren't required, & it could be fixed within a day or two. I dropped the mower off, and the lady at the shop went over the list of services covered in a tune up. I was worried about the age of the mower & wasn't sure if it was worth repairing, but she said they would call to let me know if that was the case. Gregie's called late the next morning & said the repairs were complete. When I got to the shop I actually went right by The Beast, because it looked so nice. The full tab came to $135, which was a nice surprise. But then - Greg found out that I had served in the Gulf, & refused to take payment. Um, wow. I had to give it a test run when I got home, & wow, again - it's like using a brand new machine! I can't give this shop a high enough recommendation.
Description of Work: Repair recoil starter (required disassembly of engine), full tune-up service (cleaning of engine, clean/replace air filter, scrape grass from under deck, clean gas tank, change oil, replace spark plug, sharpen blade, tighten head bolts, fill gas tank & wash).

Greg was very thorough and concise in quoting the price and what needed to be done. I was happy with the service. Greg does quality work.
Description of Work: Greg did a light cleaning of the engine, cleaned the air filter, scraped grass from under the deck, cleaned the gas tank, changed the oil, changed the spark plug, sharpened the blade, tightened head bolds, added fresh gas, test ran the mower, and cleaned the mower. They were great. Brought the mower over and it was ready the same day! They are about $15-20 more than other places that we called, but everyone else took 1-3 weeks to complete a tune up. The cost was $95, plus parts. They even washed the mower - cleanest it has looked in years. We'll definitely use them again.

The trimmer's gas line was broken, and the thing never did work right. Greg fixed it and now it works great. We also asked him if we should get a very old push lawn mower repaired - he advised against it, as the repair costs would be higher than a new mower. He disposed of the old mower for us for free.

Called Gregie's shop one day to ask whether they sharpen blades. They said they did, and charge $6 if you bring in the blade, or $15 if you bring in your mower and they remove the blade for sharpening. Easy enough to remove my mower's blade, so brought it in. Gregie took it back into his shop to sharpen it - it may have taken him 2 minutes - and then brought it out to me and asked for $6. Simple and quick. I asked him how often one ought to sharpen such a blade. He advised every 2-3 years for electric mowers. I haven't yet mowed the lawn after the sharpening, so I don't know the quality of the sharpening service.
Description of Work: Brought in the blade to my electric lawn mower for sharpening.
