We enjoyed working with Mike and we really learned a lot from him. He was great about answering our questions and was very approachable. We appreciated his artistry and technical skills, and he was very pleasant to work with. We had never worked with an architect before and found it a good experience. The project Mike designed has just recently been completed. People really compliment us on the outcome. The space is very comfortable and warm but sleek at the same time. We will surely contact Mike again as we move to the next project.
Description of Work: Mike provided excellent modern design for the interior main floor of our two story house. We have more work to do on the house, and he has helped us with the vision of how we will proceed with future phases both exterior and interior.

He was very professional but we didn't use him since we ended up using a different one. He really had a good green show that he did. He is a little bit modern than I was wanting to go but he had worked on some old house. I live in an old neighborhood and most of my friends own old houses.
Description of Work: Fuse57 LLC Architecture gave us an estimate for their architectural design service. His quote was just more of the design and it was a percentage of how much we wanted to do so it wasn't really a quote but a general idea though we never had him to do a design.

I liked them, I would definitely consider them. They didn't gave me an estimate at all because it was just kind of getting an idea on anything, of how much time or if it would even be possible for us to do an extension over our garage. They're very personable and he seems very knowledgeable and also his son. A lot of others that we had, where he's kinda changing the style of the house or kind of adding to it. When we're ready to actually do a build out over our garage, we would consider them.
Description of Work: Fuse57 LLC Architecture did come out, the owner came out and we chatted with them but were not ready to do an add-on.

Mike did a perfectly fabulous job of listening, responding, and designing a lovely house using what was there. His design was cost-effective, striking, and well-thought-out, with every convenience designed for. Many, many people have asked us about the house and it is universally admired (except the woman passing by with the little black spaniel, who thinks we should have left it alone because it was so and quot;cute.and quot;) We would ask Mike to design for us a again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: As-is drawings and two or three rounds of client review to add one storey to an ugly squatty little house. Coordinated professional engineer work and provided onsite review of structural changes. This was a mini-contract; Mike can do much more extensive development work.

It was fantastic! I can't say enough about how happy we were with our project with Mike. He came out for an initial consultation and he measured our space. We discussed our project, what our goals were, and some design/styles we liked. One of our goals was to give us a vision for our home that we could execute over time (5 years or so). The immediate project at hand was to re-window and re-side. Mike gave us a vision for the home with enough detail so we could see where we were headed and, importantly, so we could order windows and doors. We are adding some windows and moving doors based on the future state of our home. Mike has a great sense of style, is extremely easy to work with and really connected with us and understood where we wanted to go. He's helping us transform our very traditional 2 story 80's home to a 'contemporary farmhouse' style home with a focus on sustainable and earth friendly product choices - while being pretty budget conscious. We don't have a huge home nor a huge budget. Mike has given us service and treated us like our project is a very important project to him - which has been great. We were not quite sure how working with an architect on what might be a 'small project' would be like. We are excited to work with Mike more in the future as we move into the later phases of the project - which will be to design new kitchen, dining, family and mud room spaces. I highly recommended working with Mike Bader - I can't say enough about how positive it's been.
Description of Work: Initial consultation, high level design creation, and some materials discussion.

Please see above: If my project were to go forward, I would definitely hire him.
Description of Work: I had an informational/exploratory interview with the lead architect. He cares about his work immensely, he cares about conservation and locally-appropriate design and materials. He "thought out loud" with me about various options I was considering, and proposed interesting ways of thinking about my expansion needs. I would definitely recommend him/fuse57 -- artistic, serious, unflashy, resourceful.

The project is not yet completed. I hired Mike in May 08, to design, a kitchen bathroom and various other design changes I wished to make to my home. No additions, only changes to bring better light into the home and to redo bathrooms, kitchen and create spaces more useful to me than my current home plan. So far we have met several times to work on various sketches and plan the project to its end. The design plans are pretty much settled and now I need to find a contractor. Mike has given me suggestions on eco products and one contractor. He has sent me info on various suppliers as well.
Description of Work: I have met with Mike Bader several times since I hired him to design a home remodel. The project is extensive and so we have been through numerous discussions about my plans and his sketches. We have also discussed the time line and the order of progress on the project from start to finish.

Mike did great work on the design piece. He was creative, reasonably priced and easy to work with. Only glitch is that the first structural engineer had little experience with our type of house and we ended up having to obtain a second opinion. Because Mike had recommended the first engineer (and the second one too), he wrote down his time related to the second opinion and we thought that was fair. The second structural engineer was very knowledgeable and worked out well. All in all, I would highly recommend Mike.
Description of Work: New design of our basement, including moving boiler and water heater to new location and adding new bathroom, laundry room, exercise room and playroom.

Our project couldn't have gone more smoothly with Mike at the helm. He's punctual and professional, to be sure, but it's his calm and patient nature that smoothed the bumps. He provided detailed estimates of his time, the phase the costs would be incurred, and provided a project map that explained the phases of designing a residential structure. Very helpful for one not on the inside. He responded to so many of our ideas with alternatives that moved the project forward. Our most difficult experiences were with our general contractor. Mike went out of his way to communicate with him, and encourage the GC to talk with us. He also found trusted structural and soils engineers that served us well. We were looking for original ideas, ideas not done very often. Mike found materials and applications that we latched onto -- e.g. a rain screen made with fibrous cementitious panels. He also encouraged us to look to more traditional building methods in order to minimize our pain.
Description of Work: We own a vacant lot in Minneapolis (Bryn Mawr) and decided to design a 2000 sf house from the ground up. Before putting pencil to paper, Mike conducted research with the City: setback codes, zoning ordinances, some funky points-based system (which would have done us in if we didn't know about it up front), and future development planning in the neighborhood. He created several design concepts for the irregular, undulating lot. From there, we went through multiple iterations defining room dimensions, layouts, material palettes, window placements, etc. He built physical models and provided 3D computer models with solar studies. Mike then provided detailed drawings and elevation plans, got alternative bids on "green" methods of building, helped us interview general contractors, and oversaw the construction process.
