Thorough and respectful work. They appreciate the fine quality of old wood floors and work to bring out the best in them. They made the parts of my floor that needed patching seamlessly blend in to the old floors. Definitely will work with them again!

Installers Damaged floor after install. Floor had to be pulled out and reinstalled. In effort to save money they didn’t order enough flooring. Job took 5 months to complete 700 sqft of cork. During finishing they used matte on one half and semi gloss on other than tried to tell my wife it was her fault. Horrible experience.

Horrendous!!!! The customer service here is by far the worst I've ever experienced. 1) Promised a quote within 2 days before she left for vacation. Didn't deliver it. Super rude woman when I called to check on the quote. Told me to call the person on vacation and ask her to send me the quote she promised. Quote finally arrived the following week and was missing aspects and confusing. 2) After they started the work they discovered we would be refinishing hardwood floors instead of installing new floors (way less money). I emailed them and asked for a new quote of the work since the project changed from our original plan. They emailed me back a snarky reply stating they will quit the job with my house torn up and messy simply because I wanted a new explanation of the charges. They finally sent me one for $2100. I emailed them and said the quote was wrong and they were charging me for haul away despite an e-mail which said they would do that for free. No new quote came. 3) The week progressed and the guys finished the work and I still did not hear from Steve's about the pricing even though they already took more than $3200 for a deposit. I waited 3 days after they completed the work and finally called them and the same horribly rude woman answered. Just like her snarky e-mail she dished out incompetence and terrible customer service. I had enough and told her I would reverse the charges on my credit card. Despite the lovely guys who worked on my floors I would not, under any circumstances, hire this company. They steal your money and are despicable to you while they do it. 4) Steve threatened me with a lawyer to remove my review - only he can only do that if I lied, which I didn't do my review remains. ** they also have employees like [Name Removed] and [Name removed] write fake reviews.

Floors by Steve was a pleasure doing business with. Steve responded quickly with an estimate and information regarding the job. The staff who completed the work, Luis and his crew, were extremely professional, prompt, trustworthy, and very easy to work with. The work was done in a week and Luis accommodated our family to continue to use the kitchen in the evenings. I would highly recommend Floor by Steve for your next project with hardwood floors.

I would like to start by saying, we've done our research with flooring I mean two years of research between floors and service providers we've been through it all. I found Floors By Steve by chance and I'm definitely glad I did. They had exactly what we wanted. From the initial contact to the installation the project took about 1 month which was excellent. The installation took 1 week and with two small children and two dogs this turn around time was much appreciated. The services was on spot. From the quote by Lisa to Steve coming to our home 1/2 way through the project and explaining step by step what they were doing and why made me feel even more confident we made the right selection. The installers were very professional and super friendly. My floors are gorgeous. I also have to mention their showroom, they have it all. I promise Floors by Steve will not disappoint. They go over and beyond to make sure the job is done right and the customer is satisfied. Like I said earlier we did our research with so many different flooring companies and floors. This company is the real deal.

They showed up as scheduled and started what was a relatively large project by residential standards. After laying a fair amount of the floor, the installers realized that one section was not aligned properly. This set us back by a day, but at least they seemed to be paying attention, and the job was completed with just a day's delay. We were getting nervous because we wanted to maintain sufficient drying time before our scheduled move into the house. After the finish was added, we inspected the work and thought that it was OK, but were a bit disappointed by the varnish where some spots were irregular and overall there was not the sheen that we had expected. We moved into the home on October 17, 2014. By the end of the year, we had noticed spaces between boards, and we initially attributed this to the cold, dry air of a Minneapolis winter. We thought that in the spring things might look better. We were later told by Steve that we needed to "wait a full cycle". That was after we had called him to mention our disappointment. In the meantime, the gaps had increased rather than decrease and, in some cases, the floor is not level, with some boards slightly higher than others. We can't recall ever seeing a floor looking like this elsewhere. We're not sure what can be done at this point, but it is disappointing that Steve argues and insists that it is normal when that does not appear to be the case. The old part is impeccable, and the new part is not. Another flooring professional who visited our home for another reason noted the misaligned boards and separation on butt joints. He suggested that we ask the installer to get an inspector from the mill out to our home. To be fair, we have not yet mentioned this to Steve. But based on his initial reaction to our complaint, we are not optimistic that he will process much of what we have to say. His comments so far included: why did you wait so long, you must have spilled water on it, the subfloor is deficient (though it doesn't seem to be for the original flooring), and -- as mentioned earlier -- we just need to wait. In summary, these folks have an attractive website, and at first glance a nice story to tell. But we are regretful that we did not wait until we had a more reliable word-of-mouth reference. We were in a hurry and pulled the trigger and now are dealing with someone whose first inclination does not appear to be standing behind his people's work. I would recommend that anyone thinking of installing wood flooring in the area conducts thorough due diligence before selecting Floors By Steve.
Description of Work: We purchased a new home in the fall of 2014. About 1/3 of the main floor was wood and the rest was carpet. We hired Floors By Steve to rip out the carpet and replace it with Brazilian Cherry flooring. Initially, it looked like they had done a fairly good job of making the transition from the original section to the new wood, but then we ran into some issues.

It went awesome! Steve was the only wood flooring guy who returned my call in a timely manner and came right out to look at the project. They patched an old closet rough in discovered when we pulled up the carpet. Originally, they did one of the lines shorter than the other, but they were quick to come back and fix the job. The wood floors look absolutely beautiful! I recommend them to everyone! Thank you!

I might add that we had one other estimate for the work which came in significantly lower cost wise but we opted for Steve's Flooring because of our previous good experience with them.
Description of Work: Sand and refinish hardwood floor they installed for us about ten years ago. We asked that they do the work when we were planning to be out of town and Steve's daughter who gave us the estimate said she would get back to me so I could move furniture etc and have the house ready. When she did not get back to me I assumed they would be doing our work at some other time. As it turned out the work was finished while we were out of town which was very nice indeed but we found a slightly demeaning note about our failure to have our home ready for their workers. It was an unnecessary negative for us on an otherwise good experience.

Floors by Steve arrived and immediately got to work. The room that the flooring was going in had numerous angles in it that provided a real challenge for Steve, the owner and installer, but he was meticulous in his installation, resulting in a beautiful floor that really enhances our house. The installing required two days due to the amount of angle cutting required. We are beyond being pleased with the results.

He was super professional and on time. He was pretty reasonably priced. He didn’t have a long lead-time to get out there and he was really flexible because he did the job in our cabins that was on an island, so he had to get out there by boat and carry all the stuff by boat, so he was creative. He was a sweet guy and he kind of struck a deal that I would have had to hire extra people for. He was professional and timely and it was a good price. One thing that he did well was he looked at the job and pointed out something’s and made us aware so he clearly knew what he was talking about. He gave me options and recommended what he would do if he was in my place, so he gave me professional recommendations.

I wanted to purchase locally and they are very local. That's part of what I like. I also told people in our neighborhood to contact him because we ended up signing a contract. They were not the lowest price. They were in the middle price but I wanted to do local so that's what caused me to go with them in the first place. What we didn't like about them is that we cleared out the entire first floor. Steve assured me that he would be here on-site everyday to monitor. We left town while they did the installation. We have had our entire first floor bedrooms and kitchen and living room painted prior to the installation. I don't know if Steve was here everyday but his installers mixed every single room of fresh paint during the installation while we were out of town. Steve called me and told me he was going to halt the completion of the job unless I paid him almost double on what we had agreed on. He said that when they ordered the wood, they only ordered the wood on one side of the order sheet. They didn't flip the sheet over and discovered midway during installation that they had only ordered half of what they needed. That was in my opinion, their mistake. I was out of town and dealing with my ailing father and some other problems far away. We worked really hard to board our dog, clear out the room and accept this job to be done right during the time that we were gone for two weeks. He threatened me over the phone. He said "We will walk out from the job unless you pay me this much more." I said "That's your mistake. I think that's your responsibility." He said "Well, I didn't turn the paper over. I didn't realize that I didn't order everything." At that point, I was extremely vulnerable because my priority is dealing with family issues. I ended up agreeing. I told him that I didn't have time being swamped by those other things. I was so furious with him that I refused to have any other contact with him. I continuously suffered because we had gaps in the wood, cracks in the wood, there are nails getting up. It was so intense that his treatment of us and his assistants doubling the fees when it was his mistake. I would never recommend him to anybody.

It is unfortunate that you waited nine years (job done 6/04) to tell us this. We even deducted $2400 which was for the additional wood--as it was our error in calculating what was needed. As a result, there was no margin. Cracks are natural in our climate--if it is too dry, you will need a humidifier. You had a 3/4" solid floor which is blind nailed on tongue, so this does not make sense. Lisa remembers [member name removed] calling and apologizing for the way he had treated her. Our integrity is so important to us. We supplied all the materials and did the job properly. We did not receive a call for any problems.
We had a wonderful experience with them. They are great. They are good craftsman, always on time, and did nice job.

We were out of the country for a month leaving plenty of time for Floors by Steve to complete the job and let the floors cure. When we returned it was very clear that the floors needed another coat. The floor registers were gunked up with finish and would not fit anymore and two thresholds had only one coat finish and needed sanding. Our sunroom was supposed to be screened with plastic but instead had a small plastic drop covering some of the furniture but was still there covered with dust. Needless to say, we were very disappointed that the job was not finished. We left and message with the company and Kurt responded quickly saying he had an inkling there may be a problem because the wood seemed dry and was soaking up finish. Clearly no one returned after the second coat was applied to make sure the job was complete. To Kurt's credit, he responded quickly, put a final coat on the next day, and took care of the other issues. Unfortunately we had to wait another week before moving rugs and furniture back to give the finish time to cure...exactly what we expected to avoid by having it done while we were gone. I think this company has the skill to do a good job but is poorly run. Lisa, Steve's daughter, sold the job and said that Steve was still involved in the work. We saw no sign of Steve at any point. Kurt was able to finish the job after he was asked to do so by us. After complaining we finally talked to Lisa who couldn't quite apologize and only seemed to regret that she should have told Kurt he was working for a "picky cabinetmaker". DO NOT RECOMMEND.

I visited the showroom several times to look at samples, and Lisa let us bring a few samples to our home since we lived close by. Lisa came out to measure and give an estimate, and it was right on. Steve and another installer came to install the floor, and had the special equipment needed to install the extra hard bamboo flooring. They were professional, quick, and detail oriented. My only complete was that they didnt clean up the dust when they were done. Steve had to track down matching vent covers, so he came out a few weeks later to install them, and also added a threshold piece that we requested without any extra charge. I would hire them again.

We had a fantastic experience in 2007 when they refinished a large (about 600 sf) kitchen. It was worn and they recommended a commercial product that is still performing great. A year ago, we had to remove a doorway and partial wall in the kitchen hall, and Steve patched the floor as needed - including around radiator pipes - and refinished the hall. Again, exemplary work and professionalism. I've recommended them to a friends who has been equally pleased with them. I would use them again in a heartbeat. While not inexpensive, you do get what you pay for; the value of their work is well worth the cost!

The flooring itself is very beautiful and looks very nice. Apparently they lifted up the radiator when they were installing the flooring and the radiator leaked so there was leaking downstairs. When we called them they sent a plumber out immediately and fixed it. It was great that they fixed the plumbing part. We were not sure they wanted to take responsibility but the radiator wouldn't have leaked on its own. They wouldn't fix the big hole in the drywall which was odd because it wasn't that much money. The plumber had to open up the wall to fix the plumbing and the hole was already there because it was wet. That was a little bit frustrating because they wanted us to go with our insurance company but they did send their own plumber to fix the radiator. They did a really nice job but there were a few little things. We had a really bad floor that was uneven. It seemed like they could have flattened it a little more but it is still very nice. He did a very nice job on the floor and he did fix the damage he caused with the radiator. He was really great in some aspects but he didn’t fix the whole thing. We wouldn’t use them again because of the awkwardness of everything.
Description of Work: We used Floors By Steve to install pre-finished hardwood floors.
There were several amateur patches in the floor. Steve replaced 30 boards in order to make it look like there was no transition. The result was beautiful. Then they sanded a medium size living/dining room, two bedrooms, one closet and a small hallway. Half of the area was Oak, half was maple. He put 3 coats total on all floor after sanding. For the price, I felt I got an excellent value. My only complaint was that they didn't wipe down the sills and ledges when thru. (They used vaccum machines, but those don't catch everything). However, this is a minor complaint. I highly recommend Steve. Tom Borden 651-792-5040
Description of Work: Replaced 30 Oak 1-1/4" floorboards to correct an amateur patch job. Helped cut up old carpet. Sanded and refinished 3 rooms (total approx 600 SFt) 3 coats of oil and/or polyurethane as needed. Half of the floors were oak, half were Maple. Cleaned up garbage and floors when done. There is a thin film of dust all over the house despite his vacuum cleaner attachment...but perhaps that can't be helped.
