He was able to completely fix the problem. Gave us suggestions on how to avoid it happening again. (need surge protection) He is great and would hire him again in a minute. Kind, clean and quick. Did not talk down to us and was very professional.
Description of Work: Denny warned us that coming out on a weekend would cost more. He tried to diagnose the problem over the phone, but it didn't work so he came over. We had a circuit board that was fried and he had to order the part. Came back on Monday as soon as the part arrived.

Warning: this is going to be a long review, but Denny is AWESOME, so I have to go into detail. As mentioned above, washer/dryer situation was dire. Dryer made high-pitched nails-on-chalkboard-style wail whenever in use, and the washer had just begun a new thing where it didn't drain out after a wash fully and kept dripping water into the basin. Another guy had looked at the dryer a few years back (yes, this had been going on for years) and had declared it basically unfixable. Note: washer/dryer also fit snugly into a wall alcove built for them. They are part of a single unit, with the dryer on top of the washer and the two of them connected by a metal plate.. Not a common design for good reason. We had put up with the washer for long enough, but when the washer started leaking, we knew it was time. Found Denny on here (made the choice based on other good reviews and his 24-hour availability) and gave him a call. First, as other people mentioned, Denny coached us over the phone about how to deal with the dripping dryer until it was clear that he needed to come over. Once he did, he worked for probably a total of 10 hours in 2-4 sessions over 2 weeks, always after 6 pm, to fix our leaky washer and squeaky dryer. He hadn't seen very many combo washer/dryer units like ours before, but did research about it beforehand to figure out more about what might be going on and if it would even be worth it to fix it. I did some Googling too and he was right -- similar units cost over $1000. (And because we live in a condo and it has that little space in the wall for the washer/dryer, there are only a couple units that would even fit.) Denny said he could fix the whole thing for a reasonable cost. He was very sensitive about staying within our budget the whole time -- we basically named the price at the beginning and stuck with it. Ultimately, since the dryer's squeak turned out to be coming from a part at the back of the unit, Denny "floated" the entire unit out of the wall space (without damage!) and took the whole thing down to skeleton level to tackle each issue at a time He had to hunt around the metro several times for parts but would text me to let me know his progress and when he would next be able to come over. He discovered that the washer was leaking because the screens covering the tubing connecting the water to the washer were old/full of crud, so he fixed that. The dryer's squeak was due to a worn-down ball joint at the back of the dryer drum which really did require taking the unit apart in order to repair/replace. In addition, the belt on the dryer was very old and dry and close to breaking. Again, Denny located new parts and dismantled the whole unit to fix it (and was very good about explaining everything along the way). Also, when the unit was being floated out of the wall, it ripped our cheap dryer vent tube. Denny replaced the tube with one of higher quality before putting the washer/dryer back. In addition, since he was at our house anyway, he decided to take a look at our furnace and water heater and gave us some tips about maintenance and repair. (We're younger and didn't really know the basics.) He also checked out our refrigerator, just in case. This was just for free and not because we asked him to. Finally, Denny is a blast to have around. He's a really funny, honest guy who seems to genuinely enjoy fixing things and meeting new people. (He used to build cars for a living but discovered that fixing appliances was more lucrative.) My boyfriend and I looked forward to hanging out with him while he worked. I trusted him to understand our needs and I'd recommend him to anyone who needs any kind of appliance repair!
Description of Work: We have a middle-aged single-unit washer & dryer that is set back into the wall. Washing machine was leaking/dripping water into the drum and pooling water, and dryer would make awful high-pitched noise (like -- actually the worst noise I've ever heard) whenever it was drying clothes. Denny fixed both problems and whole thing is good as new!!

I called Denny mid-day - MY REFRIG ISN'T WORKING! (And it was 100 degrees out!) Denny said he had a full day, but recommended I pull the unit out and see if dust and dog hair had clogged the fan. If there is lot of debris, just cleaning should get everything working again. He said try that, if that doesn't work call me back. Well, I did and it didn't. There was evidence of a fire that melted a box containing the wires that went to the compressor. I called back - he said he could he could be out in the evening - poss. 9 or 10pm. Wow! this guy had worked all day and he was going to fit me in at the end of the day! He arrived at 9:30pm and immediately got to work. He did some wire testing and to his surprise, all he had to do is replace some of the wiring that had melted and everything should be working. He replaced the wires and he said that it is so rare to have evidence of a fire like this and be able to replace some wires and have it humming again! I was expecting to have to buy a new refrig - around $1500, so I was VERY happy when he was able to troubleshoot it and make it work great for $225! We also had a nice conversation about our dogs while he was rewiring. Very nice guy!

I called Denny about a Samsung refrigerator issue. He called back that day and asked me a couple of questions. He then told me to go to the refrigerator and instructed me on what to check on it. He said it probably was just a filter issue and instructed me on how to fix it myself and also how to adjust the appliance so the doors would close better. He said if that didn't work then he would be happy to come out and help me. He was delightful and didn't charge me anything for his expert advice. I would not hesitate at all to call him in the future for questions and/or repairs. He was great!

Wow the value of an expert! Denny (I assume it was Denny anyway - forgot to ask who I was speaking to) called me back on a Sunday after I left a message for service on our washing machine. It turns after I described the problem to Denny he understood right away what was going on and it turns out the washing machine did not need to be fixed after all. I was able to take care of the problem with information from Denny. He saved me a lot of money because I was going to have someone come out and make a service call. He appears to have a lot of expertise, was professional and courteous, and responded promptly to my call on a weekend.

I included this above. It went extremely well.
Description of Work: I have a 38 year old double oven stove. One oven quit heating. I called a repair person who said he could not fix it, because he could not get it out from the wall. Believing that person, I waited about 2 years. As I got worried the other oven could go, I decided to try again. I called Denny and did not leave a message because I thought 1 man couldn't do it. He called me back a few minutes later. He asked a few questions about the stove, and said he was pretty sure he could fix it. We set up an appointment. He fixed it without pulling it out from the wall, and ordered and picked up a new heating element, installed it and fixed wires what had burned out. The first trip he was here about 2 hours and the second he was here about 30 min. The stove has worked perfectly since. He was very pleasant.

Very good.
Description of Work: I had a problem with my washer. Called Denny -- he called me right back. I wanted to get an idea of cost to find out if it was worth repairing. Denny walked me though what to look at on my machine-- it turned out that the machine wouldn't really be worth the repair based on what I explained to him. He saved me the cost of a service call. Also, he spent a lot of time on the phone giving me advice of what to look for and what to avoid when I go out to buy a new washer. What a nice and helpful man. I will call him next time I need an appliance repaired.

I value the careful customer service I got from Denny. He took time out of his work day not only to walk me through the steps to blow an enormous number of feathers out of my dryer, but also to follow up with me the next day. He did this thoroughly, respectfully and for free.
Description of Work: Denny called me right back after I'd left a message explaining that a down comforter had exploded in my dryer. He not only walked me through the steps to take to blow the feathers out of the dryer and reassured me there wasn't a risk of danger, but called me back the next day to follow up and make sure his suggestion worked! It did, and I will call him to do any appliance repair in the future. You just can't beat good old fashioned customer service.

Our freezer's automatic defrosting unit was malfunctioning, which meant that it would quickly develop a glacier at the back of the freezer and both freezer and fridge would stop working well. Denny diagnosed the problem over the phone and coached me on how to get it working temporarily. He then came over to our house after regular business hours to replace the crucial part. It is now working beautifully.

Denny was fantastic. I called and he answered on Easter Sunday no less and said he'd be by the following day which he was. After carefully testing each step along the process, he determined a bad switch was causing our refrigerator to not cool properly and that it was relaying to the computer that our door was not closed. Denny fashioned a temporary "jump" in the switch which allowed the refrigerator to operate normally until the part he ordered was in. When Denny returned about a week and a half later, he installed the new switch, we paid for the service, and all was again well.
Description of Work: Denny diagnosed a short in the relay switch that operates the refrigerator bulb and also alerts the refrigerator's computer that the fridge door is closed so the condenser can operate. Denny was able to bridge the short temporarily while he ordered the part enabling us to use our refrigerator in the interim.

Denny responded to my message within an hour and let me know that he would repair my refridgerator that same day. We made arrangements for him to call me 30 minutes before he would be to my house so I could leave work to meet him there. He called back and we met up. He quickly determined the problem with the refridgerator, he had the part needed and installed it. He cleaned everything up after the repair and gave everything a thorough check to make sure everything was running smoothly. He gave me some great tips on how to keep the it running efficiently. The cost was exactly what he quoted over the phone.

It took me a while to figure out how to find someone to perform this service. Then I checked "refrigeration repair" in the yellow pages and made a few calls. Denny called back soon after I left the message, understood exactly what we needed and was willing to schedule the service quickly. It turns out we needed a little time to empty the freezer so I called him back the following week to suggest some times that would work for us. After exchanging a few voicemail calls we got it scheduled. He gave us a time frame that worked, called ahead once he was on his way, showed up and got to work. He gave my husband a little advice on how to approach the demolition of the freezer. Half an hour later he was done. It's too bad we have to pay so much to do the right thing by the environment but Denny was a find person to work with.

A very good experience. Denny came out, diagnosed the problem, said that he would look into the cost to repair vs. to buy a new dryer and get back to us with a price. The service call cost $65 (not included in the $275 for the repair listed above). He came back with a price for significant work (new rollers, take apart dryer, etc), did the work, charged us less than he had quoted, and the dryer now works great. I would call him again in an instant. In addition to the positive reviews on Angie's list, Denny was recommended by another company, who doesn't repair Gibson because they don't carry the line.
Description of Work: Repair 7 year old much used Gibson gas dryer. This dryer had been having problems for 6 months. We initially thought the problems were caused by new attic insulation, and installed a separate vent fan (which is a good thing, but didn't resolve).

The heat on our clothes dryer stopped working. Called a few places to have it diagnosed and fixed. Most places were booked, but Denny was able to squeeze us in between two jobs that night. Came out and diagnosed the problem (dryer vent needed to be cleaned, which caused the gas igniter to burn out). He replace the gas igniter. He was on time and quickly diagnosed the issue and fixed our dryer. He was a good person to work with and I will use him again in the future.

Our ice maker has never worked since we moved into our house 5 years ago. We did not care because we just assumed it was because the refrigerator was older. That was until the ice maker started leaking this year. At first, it leaked a little and then it ended up flooding the whole freezer and leaking into the refrigerator. I called NorthEnd Appliance for advice and they referred me to Denny. He could not come until the next day. He explained to me that he thought the problem simple. The drainage part of the freezer needed to be flushed. People do not realize that they need to be clean. He got the ice maker up and working due to the cleaning. He also gave me tips to keep the refrigerator running well. For example, vacuuming directly under the refrigerator is very important. That is something my mother did not tell me. He also replaced our shut off valve to the ice maker from under the sink. The old one was rusted and almost falling off.
