I went into Carpet King at Sun Ray because I saw the sign advertising $99 installation. I spoke with the salesperson and he indicated the $99 did cover the entire installation, including stairs. I ordered carpet, and he said that the amount could change after the measurer was there, which I understood. I told him I had the basement waterproofed, so the cement on the edges was higher than the middle of the floor and I had to put shims under my furniture to make it level. He thought they could use different levels of padding at the edge to help this problem, and that made some sense. When I spoke with the measurer, we discussed the fact that using even thicker carpet pad in the middle would be better as there would be more of a difference in the carpet pad heights. So I upgraded the padding for the middle and went with a lower padding at the edges. When the installers came, they said they couldn't use different padding at the edges because it would look odd. After a lot of discussion, I went with what the installers said. They did a very good job and were prompt and efficient, but my main problem of not being able to put furniture up to the walls was not resolved. Plus they tacked $200+ onto the bill because of the waterproofing (which no one mentioned before), upgraded padding (which I would not have needed), and extra carpet (due to exact measuring). I spoke with Customer Service and said I would settle for just getting my $80 back for the additional installation costs above the advertised $99, but they would not do this. They had the salesperson call me back to tell me it was an unfortunate situation, but that is what they had to charge. I need to call him back, but I'm just a little ticked still. I don't feel the true cost and options were fully disclosed before the installation. I know now they couldn't install as we discussed, but I ended up paying the full cost for the misinformation and 4-party communication problems.
Description of Work: I had carpeting installed over the cement floor in my basement, plus the stairway leading to the main level. I didn't want to spend a lot since the basement had flooded in the past, and although it was now waterproofed, I just didn't want to take a chance.

The salesman were very nice. We bought during a sales promotion. The manager of the Sun Ray store waited on us and was very informative. We picked out some styles and price range. Took home samples and decided we wanted something a little more plush for the living room. I found something I really liked and the color was perfect, but was a about a dollar more. Asked if possible to get this on sale, Salesman worked out a $450 off and we were back to our original estimate. The Measure guy showed up on time and was very professional and helpful. The install crew arrived on the promised time and worked pretty hard. Old carpet pad and rug were removed and staples were scraped out. But they were all removed and cleaned up. Floor was clean before new carpet install. Job took about 2 hours each Friday. After they left the area was clean and the carpet install was tite and great looking. Seams looked hidden. We had 1 pattern carpet and matched that perfectly. Was pretty enjoyable experience.
Description of Work: Installed 55 sq yard carpet. 2 different types in living room, dining room and master bedroom and small bedroom. Install was done on 2 consecutive Fridays. Second install charge was waived because we couldn't possibly move all the room furniture out of the way in both areas. Crew arrival was promised at 8 am, they showed up and tore out all old stuff, removed all staples and cleaned up. New pads and carpet laid down and stretched. Took away old carpet. Cleaned up afterwords and left. Were done in about 2 hours.
