We are a family run business servicing the Twin Cities greater metro area. We specialize in egress window installation and repair. Brenne Builders is owner operated and does not use sub contractors for egress window installations.
Outstanding! John is a great talent who gave us a firm quote and followed through with all commitments to the project. He was prompt, professional, hard working, and very knowledgable. Pricing was actally the same as a couple of other bids, but John only uses the top window brands (Anderson, Pella, or Marvin) and we were also able to upgrade to the Wellcraft window wells which are much nicer - so competitive pricing but better quality materials. John was able to trouble shoot a couple of suprises effortlessly and provide suggestions to ensure the project outcome was of the highest quality and pleasing to the eye.
Description of Work: A single egress window in a basement bedroom and a double in the front of the house for the ammusment room, so three windows total. We liked the Wellcraft product he suggested as it looks much nicer than the traditional corrigated steel.

John was very professional, prompt and thorough. He came and scoped out the project and offered a fair price with options to DIY to save on cost. He ordered the windows and installed the day they came in. I would recommend John's services to anyone out there looking to install basement windows and wanting to support a small local business.

I purchased 2 egress windows and built the window wells and pulled the permits. Brenne Builders did the cutting of the concrete and installation of the 2 windows, including trimming the outside. John was very responsive, professional and I'm very satisfied with our 2 windows.

Replaced an egress window, including lowering it by 4 inches to meet current code. Removed the timber well and enlarged it slightly and rebuilt it including steps/ladder to get out of the well. Repaired the drywall and added trim to the interior side of the window. John pulled all the permits and was available every time the inspector needed to do his inspection. He estimated it would take 4 days and it took 4.5 days. He was punctual every day and started on the day that we agreed on. He also did an excellent job cleaning up the job site.

We initially contacted Egress Window Guy Inc to install our windows and the owner was very upfront and said he no longer does poured concrete basements and recommend John who he has worked with in the past. We contacted John mid summer for an estimate and were very happy with his bid. His bid was extremely fair compared to the other bids we got. I don't think any of windows were a standard easy installation...we asked for a bigger well than normal, wanted stone wells, and one of the windows didn't have an exisiting window so it needed a header and it was under an overhang of the house. John provided us with great recommendations such as extending the well of the window with the overhang to allow more light, etc. We are very happy with the results and the whole process and would strongly recommend John to anyone.

WOW. Hire this guy. John and his crew did an outstanding job. His bid was the lowest for the work and materials that I specified. He did an oustanding job. He performed the work on a tight timeline and finished ahead of schedule. As a bonus, my wife and I awarded him a small bonus above the agreed upon price. We never have done this before. However, his professionalism, care and timelybess for a difficult job was appreciated and needed to be rewarded. We will obtain his services again. We recommend him very highly and without reservation.

I called on Thursday, August 1st I think it was and spoke to John in regards to getting to an estimate on having a fire door installed in my basement. He asked me some detailed questions that I couldn't answer and sounded very iffy as to whether or not he was even interested in the job. He referred me to his website and said to e-mail him and that he'd get back to me that night to set up a time. In the e-mail I believe I asked him to call me. In any event he did not contact me that night. He e-mailed me the next morning saying he could be over that evening. He only had my home e-mail so I did not see it until that evening after work which was Friday, August 2. It sounded like he wanted to stop by Saturday because his e-mail was sent Friday morning and he said he could 'be over tomorrow at 6:45', but I when I responded back to him, it was clear he meant Friday evening and by that time it was too late and I told him I'd find someone else. I was very disappointed because I was not contacted when I was told I would be, and that I was not called instead of e-mailed which caused a huge delay. There was no apology on John's part for a delay in communication, or when I told him I'd find someone else for the job, so it was pretty clear he didn't really want it; I just wish he would've said so up front. I've never had a contractor that's referred me to e-mail and then continued on with it as the main form of contact and especially not prior to closing the deal. Clear, timely communication is so important when working with a contractor and it just wasn't there. Brenne got a good rating on Angie's List and that's why I called them. They may very well do good work, but because of this experience I will not be using them.

I submitted a request to Brenne Builders for an egress window and John contacted me the same day with a quote for his standard offering for an egress window. We had a unique circumstance as we had already purchased the window and well for the project. John was willing to install our window and well and allow us to dig the hole to save some money. John arrived on time the day that he was scheduled to do the work. He told me exactly what he would be doing and ensured I liked the color of the exterior trim as I had requested a specific color to match our windows. Once he completed the egress window installation he ensured that his work met my expectations. I would highly recommend John not only was he a really nice guy he did an outstanding job installing our window and was really flexible with us.

We had John come out and give us an estimate to install a new Egress Window. John was informative and easy to get a hold of if I had any questions. He came on a Monday and everything was done by Thursday (due to the weather). We had timbers placed as the wall and they look great. John did a great job!

Everything went very well. John is excellent to work with and really knows his business. We had 4-5 bids, John was right on with price and spent a lot of time with emails, questions from me regarding the window install. He was punctual and when there was a time he would be a little late due to the city, not him, he informed me. I even had a comment from the city upon inspection that he did an excellent job. John even continued to work a day with the heat index close to 100. He is very dedicated and I enjoyed my visits with him during the install. We couldn't be happier with our new window, makes the basement much brighter and safe. Thanks John would always recommend you!

The job went very well. Each step was explained to me and I was allowed to take photos during the process (these photos were very useful when the Building Inspector came and led to a quick approval of the installation. I waited until now to post a review because I wanted to be sure that the window well dome I ordered fit properly and it did. The dome was very expensive and if the window well wall was installed even slightly off, the dome would not fit. This type of dome is not available in stores and required special order. My thanks to a contractor who made a special effort to bail me out on short notice.

After contacting a half dozen egress window and quot;specialistsand quot; about my egress window project, John was the only one that was willing to take on my project. He was willing to dig my 7' deep well, install my own Marvin Tilt/Turn in-swing window, and was willing to coordinate the project with my drywall installer who wanted to slip 12' sheets of drywall into the opening before the window was installed. He was patient and flexible with the project schedule. When the inspector came to inspect the final installation, he praised John's window installation technique. John went above and beyond the call of duty when the guy I hired to pour the egress window well botched the pour. John identified a solution to the problem without needing to start over and volunteered to correct the problem. The concrete guy made excuses.

The project was very demanding. Unanticipated difficulties arose. Nevertheless, John Brenne was very committed to a successful outcome and wanted no extra money for the unforeseen problems. He basically said a bid is a bid and he will have to live with the consequences. We didn't feel right about that so in the end he accepted what we both thought was a fair price which reimbursed him at least partially for the extra time which was probably at least double, and the extra material. Overall it is hard to imagine a better outcome. We discussed this project with several other providers. All simply gave us their generic window well response. John, on the other hand, was the only provider who got down into the wells, and gave us an explanation as to why were experiencing the problem and what it would take to remedy it. He was also the only provider who offered a solution compatible architecturally with all the other window wells in the association, something that was very important to us. The result looks very good and the price was very fair. I'm also very grateful that we working with John Brenne through the unforeseeable problems. I can imagine that being a nightmare with many other providers.
Description of Work: The concrete block retaining walls around two egress windows in our association were deteriorating even though they are only 14 years old. Breene Builders rebuilt the retaining walls.
