Their first contact person quit on them and I figured they wouldn't be able come through. However, Eden quickly contacted me, set up another appt. and met with me in a timely fashion. He listened to my issues and explained the most affordable solution. While it didn't have a few of the fancy bells and whistles other companies had offered the price was $25-30K less than others had estimated. Other companies didn't seem to listen to what I wanted and based their estimates more on what they wanted to do. We scheduled the work and John and his crew arrived bright and early on the scheduled day. Big crew, all working hard. Followed plan, no surprises. Finished in one day. Cost met estimate. The only reason I gave them a B in quality was the sod apparently came from different skids and was clearly different in nature. Although it all has grown well it has not evened out yet, but it has been only three weeks. Overall a good and affordable job and I would definitely recommend and use Bluhm Bros in the future.

It was a disappointing experience. I wanted some help with tree selection to replace trees, have three trees planted, some shrubs planted and some sodding done. The first guy who came out gave me an estimate but left the company right after he did our estimate. Someone else came out 1-1/2 weeks later, and the appointment seemed to be going well until we were no longer on the same page as to how much sod should be replaced - he kept talking about replacing it all, re-grading, etc. - we just wanted to sod some large bare areas on our rented property. At that point, I abruptly ended the appointment since he didn't really seem much interested in doing the work I was looking for. Maybe the project was too small for them to spend their time on.

They did the landscape design for $99. We scheduled the time and they came. The design was a landscaping around the house primarily hardscape. The design was fine but when they called back and I had additional questions about getting some modifications I didn’t hear back from them. I’d say that was not good.

The bid came in over $8,500 higher than the next highest bid, (6 total bids) . All the other bids ranged from $2600 to $3000 and came from very reputable landscaping companies here on Angie's List. On a side note: The guy who came out for the bid was very friendly.

I installed a deck and screen porch 16 years ago on the north side of my house, and left the "beneath" area for another day. Over the years, due to lack of sun, it became a useless, muddy, ugly portion of the yard. Bluhm was very prompt setting up initial consultation, helped me choose options that would work vs. ideas that were less suitable, or add needless expense, which is nice if you're like me and have no experience installing patios/walls. The crew arrived as scheduled, and worked through some pretty crappy weather. The project was done on time, and having a bit of the last day left, added a few last-minute ideas like extending the size of the landscaped portion and installing a few pavers over a muddy area by the fence gate (no extra charge!). Clean up was good. I'm very happy with the results, and now have a backyard that is enjoyable rather than a place to avoid.

Bluhm Brothers is a great company to do business with. Our front yard was in need of serious rehab. Trees had been removed, stumps ground out, and the lawn was uneven after decades of use. Lucy Gehan provided a prompt and complete bid, and made helpful suggestions to properly scope the project. John Bluhm personally supervised the project. These guys went above and beyond just laying sod. After removing the existing lawn, they leveled the entire yard. Where trees had been removed and stumps ground out, they dug out all the roots - most of which I would have been fine with them leaving in the ground, but John said that's just not they way they do things. They want their work to last and look good for years. They are fast and efficient and have all the right equipment needed to do a high quality job. My wife and I were impressed by their responsiveness, professionalism, and efficiency. An all around good experience.

r the plan.I bought a big deal for a landscaping plan for my yard and the person who came out was prompt and professional. He drew up the plan and emailed it to me. He originally didnt include some things I asked for but sent me the corrections when I gave him that feedback. I felt lukewarm about the actual garden design and decided to just keep working on my own design, so I didn't end up purchasing the plants or services beyond the big deal for the plan.

We spent more than the Big Deal price because they purchased some plants for us. The Deal was just for the design. We had some plants that didn't make it through the winter so they came back to replant some. They didn't charge us for that. However, we had another plant this year that didn't make it and we replaced it last weekend. They had just dug the hole and put it in. It was in the original root ball and no wonder it didn't make it. We probably won't use them again because they are so far away.

The work was completed in the 1 1/2 days as scheduled. They seemed to have the correct equipment and did a reasonable job of cleaning up at the end. There was minor damage done to our sprinkler system when it was necessary to remove several stumps to correct the grade. The sod has grown well, and the appearance of the rock was improved with the addition of new rock included in the project.

Glad they finally called, would like to work with local business

It was OK. They came out July 2012 and $99 was for the original landscaping deal but we spent $1500 extra. The person who did the landscaping plan wound up leaving the company and there was not good communication at all about getting what we wanted done. We setup for the Spring and we called them and they said they had us in their books. But I didn't hear from them and so we had to call back and apparently the person left them without a warning or sufficient documentation of what he did. So it took a long time for them to get us back on their schedule again. So if I were to get someone to work with again I will make sure I get somebody who is stable.

It went incredibly well. They were thoughtful and considerate not only of us, but also our neighbors. Our neighbors were so impressed that they hired Bluhm Brothers to put in a retaining wall for them. It was very well organized and efficient. There were enough workers to finish the project quickly. They communicated well with my husband and me. They cleaned up every bit of mess. My husband broke his ankle at the bottom of the back steps where water had pooled and frozen the previous winter and we are no longer worried about safety issues in the backyard. We enjoyed the yard all summer and appreciated the easily shoveled and snowblown sidewalks in the winter. We can't recommend Bluhm Brothers enough. Bluhm Brothers has caused a bit of lawn envy on the block!

The response we got from Bluhm was disappointing. They said that they do not do complete landscaping projects only redoing existing landscaping. Also said that they were not a good fit because they are located in St. Paul. Our house is in Gem Lake/White Bear Lake, 6 Miles North of Downtown St. Paul. Don't know how that can be outside there work area. Seems like they aren't interested in new business.

My experience was not so great. We didn't feel like he listened very well to what we needed and we said we wanted something simple and the plan was very complex and hard to maintain, which is what we told him we didn't want. The price seemed reasonable. He kind of seemed like he didn't really want to be here and he kept talking about how busy he was.

They did an okay job. They used a Bobcat when doing the work which compacted the lawn, and I told them to use a rototiller instead. I feel like I had to supervise and micromanage more than I wanted to.

Bluhm Brothers Landscaping Inc. seem to be knowledgeable and friendly. We did not end up using him for the landscaping, because his design was too expensive. He was out of our price range. They're very detail oriented and very capable.

Not much to tell. The man who came out was prompt and courteous. The plan he drew up is beautiful and innovative and is just sitting in my file cabinet waiting for the right time to be used. When the time comes for bids, I will definitely give preference to Bluhm Brothers

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service and it did not work out very well. They came out and talked with us, but we did not pursue having them do any landscaping for us. It seemed like we did not communicate well. The person who came out did not seem to understand what we were looking for or the help we needed. I do not feel like we got anything for the amount we paid.

Requested bid for job. Tyler met me at the location. He was timely and professional. Tyler then provided a nicely compiled bid for the project, explaining everything that would be done. Due to the time of year, and the higher than expected cost, decided to put off the project until spring.

Bluhm Brothers was absolutely wonderful. It all started with Eden coming over to do the proposal. We hit it off right away. He was honest about what needed to be done and did not push anything on me. When the day came to start the work they were right on time and Eden was there to talk the crew through what needed to be done. The guys went right to work and did a fantastic job. All my neighbors came to me after the work was done and mentioned what a nice job they had done and how neat they were about it. We were installing a new sprinkler system at the same time so after the old grass and clay was gone and new soil laid down, they left for a day and the sprinkler company was so impressed with how the grading was done and how neat everything looked. The next day the sod went in and WOW it looked so good. All the neighbors are now thinking about doing the same thing. Now to be fair I did ask another company to give me a quote on doing the same amount of work and that company came in quite a bit cheeper BUT I give Bluhm Brothers an "A" for pricing because they did such a great job that I truly feel that I got every penny's worth out of it. Everyone I talked with at Bluhm Brothers was respectful and helpful. They did not make me feel stupid about any questions I asked. I will definately use them again in the future. Michael Johnson

Bluhm Brothers was excellent! Jared and his crew worked so hard and did all of this work in just a week (except for the sodding and tree planting, which was delayed due to a delay by another company we had scheduled to take down some trees and didn't show up. But Bluhm Brothers gladly came back after the trees were gone to finish up the work.) We also worked with Lucy, who was so helpful in helping us choose new plants and shrubs, and she was SO knowledgeable. I can't say enough about how thrilled we are with our new yard! I have already recommended them to a neighbor who came over to check out what had been done.

It didn't go well. I took off work for the first appointment and Ben didn't show up. When I called him he seemed confused on the date. He wanted to reschedule with me again taking off work. I told him I would not be taking more time off work but described what I wanted and told him to design accordingly. The wait began again. I eventually had to give him a deadline or i would cancel the deal He eventually came and did the back yard but not the front yard. I told him I needed him to do the other half and again it took a long time. When I got the final plans they were marked with a requirement that only Bluhm could install.

It didn't go all that well and I know I'm not the only one who feels like that because I saw what the other people wrote. First of all, the drawing that he sent me was 3 inches by 2 inches. And the poor guy is an introvert, he doesn't want to be out talking to strangers because he can't. It wasn't really pleasurable. The quality was close to useless. It was a sort of a deal where he was supposed to come look at the front of my house and give me a plan. The price was okay but not too useful.

Eden and John Bluhm's team wanted to get the job done a day early and that was no problem. They showed up on time, had all their trucks and equipment set up. We talked through the plan for the day and I requested a change to the original plan. The Bluhm brothers were able to think on their feet and come up with an estimate for what I wanted done. Had them also remove a tree from back yard. When I came back to the property at end of the day it was all cleaned up. I didn't have to do a thing. So far there has not been tremendous rain or moisture but there hasn't been any additional water problems in basement since the grading was done. The Bluhm team used a team of guys, shovels, wheelbarrows, and strong arms for the job on my property which I appreciated because having heavy equipment in a residential job is prone to tearing up the yard. And access is difficult for a bobcat. Two other contractors who bidded insisted on bringing in heavy equipment, and none of those contractors got the job. Bluhm guys remind me of how things used to be when you could work with your crew to get an outcome that works at a reasonable price.

The crew arrived at the appointed day and time. The old grass was removed and rocks removed from around the house. A very hard working crew that knew what needed to be done. The crew did a very good job and cleaned the area when done. I am very happy with the project.
