Description of Work: I asked for an estimate from Bluhm for redoing the landscaping on the front of my house. I ended up with two proposals that I liked equally well, including Bluhm's, and after much going back and forth between the two, I decided I couldn't go wrong with either. Both had great ratings on Angie's list. So, I ended up flipping a coin, and the other firm won.

Description of Work: Landscape design and planting (approx. $600 of shrubs and perennials) .Removal of existing grass, grading, spreading new topsoil. Install plastic landscape edging. Purchase, pick up, and lay new sod (approx. 4500 sq. ft.). Bury one downspout. Mulch new garden area and under existing shrubs w/ 3" double-shredded hardwood.

Description of Work: Bluhm Brothers did an awesome job. They installed a wonderfull patio with herringbone patterned pavers. What really sold me on Bluhm Brothers were their added suggestions that would make the back yard it's finest. Nobody else bothered to look beyond the patio itself. I was also pleased since their estimate was the best price, even with the additional work.

Description of Work: Removed previous landscape debris, plantings, and sod around the house. Regraded with topsoil around the house. Installed new landscaping decorative rocks and mulch around the house. Installed new plants. Re-sod affected areas. Extended and bury a downspout. Added some stone steppers on one side of the deck.

Description of Work: Total redo of the back yard: All old sod, shrubs, etc. removed, saving those plants that we wanted replanted; re-grade of entire back yard and large back parking area (took many loads of new dirt); removal of concrete and vegetation from side of garage (replaced with river rocks); repair of area on boulevard that had to be filled, graded and sodded. Lucy was terrific in working with us to develop a plan for new garden beds, shrubs, trees. The Bluhm work team was GREAT! They were here early, working late, and got the job done in less than 2 days! What a hard-working, well-oiled team!

Description of Work: PART 1: First, the Bluhm Brothers (and Eden Bluhm specifically) should be highly complimented for their willingness and ability to be flexible with a job that required significant last-minute changes. The initial plan was to remove an old, cracked, sunken sidewalk leading from the side of the home to the alley / garage behind my home. The sidewalk was to be replaced and a patio was to be put down behind the home adjacent to a large, mature Norway Maple tree. Mr. Bluhm came out, asked many important questions, listened carefully and designed and created, not just a patio, but an actual outdoor living space – an extension of the home. His design tied the sidewalk in with the patio making the space even larger than I initially envisioned. We worked on agreeing on the material, colors and layout style of the paver bricks to use and set a date for work to be completed. I would encourage homeowners to really allow them free rein to propose a comprehensive design unless you have something very, very specific in mind … they will come up with something that far exceeds your expectations. Among other qualities, what really distinguished them from other contractors is that Mr. Bluhm laid out the entire design to scale; including the home, yard, pre-existing fence and property lines; one could envision the finished design to scale right at the onset. It was obvious that this took considerable time (and this as a free estimate). No other contractor took the time to actually do this (I had 4 other estimates done with different materials). I had investigated several different mediums for this work (pavers, colored/stamped concrete, composite/pebbled concrete and plain, broom finished cement). I was actually surprised that pavers were actually less expensive to use vs. stamped concrete and somewhat in-line with the composite / pebbled concrete and did the work for less than $25 / square foot. Due to anticipated equipment traffic on the lawn adjacent to the work area, we budgeted in a fresh layer of topsoil and new sod over about a 500-600 sq ft area as well. Just prior to the start of the construction, some issues arose from an arborist who informed me that such construction around the tree would likely lead to its demise in a few years. At this point, some last minute significant changes were implemented and the patio became a “low rise” composite deck to preserve the health of the tree, but still tied in with the paver brick sidewalk initially designed. Description of Work: We asked for an estimate on demolishing a deck, replacing it with a patio and stair from our backdoor, rebuilding a retaining wall in stone and building a raised garden in our backyard and clean out some grown-over areas by the alley. Eden took the time to figure out exactly what we wanted, and had some very helpful suggestions on how big a patio should be to be useful, and how to maximize space (we have a small St. Paul backyard) and seating. He stayed within our budget, and gave us a very nice plan. Although we ultimately went with another contractor, I would definitely call Bluhm Brothers again. They were professional and responsive. My only minor concern was that sometimes it was a little hard to get someone at the office to call back (I used them for another project last year and had a similar problem). But, a second call worked, and once I made contact, I had Eden's cell which was fine.

Description of Work: This was a total demolition and reconstruction of the entire property. All sod was removed, as well as concrete pilings from an old patio, old cast iron clothes line poles, the entire sidewalk, and most plantings. We had a retaining wall installed of chilton stone, new paver sidewalks, new sod, all new plantings, the entire front/back yard was regraded, and gutter downspouts were buried to aid in drainage (water was draining too close to our house - very narrow lot). It was an amazing transformation.

Description of Work: I contacted the company to set up a bid at the end of March. They sent out their landscape design rep, Lucy, a couple weeks later. My wife met her and said she was very nice and knowledgeable. We received a design for our entire backyard that was unique and took into account most of our needs. Lucy worked with us to itemize out different aspects of the job and talk through paving options. Ultimately we chose to do most of the work ourselves, but I imagine they would have done a great job and finish it fast. Whereas I will be sweating throughout the summer.

Description of Work: We recently moved into a new home and determined that some regrading needed to be done around the house. Not only did the former owners leave us with two feet of mulch around the plants on one side of the house, but there were spots where the soil was directing water towards our foundation, causing slight seepage in our basement. We had Bluhm Borhters regrade with soil and some plastic around the house, including under our deck and around existing plants. They also added rocks to the north side of the house (where there was just grass before) in order to reduce the soil erosion near our foundation. They removed some of the excess mulch from the south and west (front) side of the house, and removed rocks from under our lower deck to allow for air circulation. They added a window well to our basement window, to keep water from pooling near the window or getting into the basement. They removed a small dead tree in our front yard (which did not survive being planted in two feet of mulch), removed a woody, overgrown lilac bush out back that was too close to the house, and trimmed some bushes for us.

Description of Work: My fifty plus year old home was getting water in one corner of the basement. In order to correct the problem, the entire backyard had to be regraded. Bluhm Bros came out and removed all the grass in the backyard, cleared out all the old shrubs and weeds, buried a drain spout, and regraded the yard. They added a stone pathway along one side of my house to lead from front to back yards, and laid new sod. They also planted five beautiful new trees, moved some existing shrubs to better locations, and put 3 foot beds around the entire backyard. They completely transformed my backyard - it looks gorgeous! Lucy was fabulous in recommending the new trees and where to move existing shrubs - thanks, Lucy!

Description of Work: They came and did a landscape installation. They did regrading.

Description of Work: Bluhm Brothers tore down a very old retaining wall, tore out steps and a portion of a sidewalk. They replaced it with a five foot versalock retaining wall, steps, and sidewalk with willow creek pavers. They also put bullnose treads on our stoop outside the front door. It looks like a completely different house. Their work was excellent, they did the entire project in four days with two crews. Eden gave us the bid and it was a very fair and good price with the appearance better than anything else we could have chosen. I cannot recommend Bluhm Brothers enough. I would use no one else for landscaping, patio, or walkways/walls. They left the area clean, neat and even took out some old buckthorn roots as well which was an added bonus. Despite this being a costly job (retaining walls are costly), the work was so beautiful that I was actually happy to spend the money and extra happy.

Description of Work: The entire front lawn was removed, soil added to level off uneven areas, then sod laid.

Description of Work: Total front yard and boulevard areas. Remove existing turf, concrete retaining walls and debris left over from from utility crew. Properly grade lawn and hillside from the house to the street. Install plastic edging to the right of the front steps and match left side for front flower bed. Install sod on lawn and mulch in flowerbed areas. Properly bury front downspout 10 feet out under walk. Remove turf from 10 foot by 18 foot area off west side of house, grade and sod. Install weed liner and 1 1/2 inch river rock on 32 foot by 4 foot area off east foundation of house.
