 + 1 moreAllen gave me an estimate in mid November about 1/3 less than his #1 competitor said the time would be late in the year. Started and finished project 1/8. They arrived on time and did a great job, even did a little extra, cleaned up and left. Very friendly and cordial workers.
Description of Work: Added r32 to existing r12, added soffett sleeves, foamed around fixture housings and built up sides around attic entrance.

 + -1 moreThe work was done very professionally and timely. They really wanted to do the work right. Al came and gave estimate in mid summer. We decided to have the work done a couple of months later and the cost didn't go up, which it did for the competition by 7%. They scheduled around our needs (We just had a baby and needed to schedule on a Friday or Monday so my family could schedule when to visit in-laws). When they found out the flat middle ceiling of my upstairs was already blown, instead of leaving it at that, they did the sloped portions between the runners and the flat middle ceiling. They did the foyer even though they said it wasn't in the estimate (it was in the competition's estimate) for no extra cost. They also blew insulation over the ceiling of add on room over garage for no extra cost. House really feels warmer and quieter. Did the blowing in two days and came back to fill the holes. I have a stucco house and they did a very good job of matching the color.
Description of Work: Insulate outside walls, knee walls and ceiling upstairs by blowing insulation from truck. Story and a half house. 5% off Angie's List and another 5% for paying all before hand.

A couple of minor fixes were needed to the completed project, but readily willing to address the problems. Staff was in contact with homeowner on when work would get done. Even weather delays were communicated to homeowner. I was never left wondering what was going on.
Description of Work: Tear off two layers of existing siding; blown in insulation on the first floor; built overhang and railing on the back door; installed new siding and shutters.

 + -1 moreLinda Bartlett, the sales rep, was terrific. She brought examples of the different windows available;a whole range of price options. She walked the house with me, pointing out differences in the installation on the 3-season porches vs. the rest of the house. The old windows were a funky design, and new models would not have completely covered the screw-holes from the old windows. Linda brought in the installers for suggestions and we ended up installing a single window to see how their modifications worked. Linda was patient through many weeks of this process, I never felt pressured to commit before I was ready. When the remaining windows were installed, the work was completed in less than a day;yard was clean. I would never have known the workers were there (except for those nice new windows!) I was sure happy to have those windows with today's 20 mph winds!
Description of Work: Installed 21 aluminum storm windows.

 + -1 moreI called once to ask some questions after I got the proposal Brad wasn't available. I called again and left Brad a voicemail when he wasn't available, but when he left me a voicemail, he failed to answer the questions I'd asked. Later, I called again, left another voicemail -- repeating the questions -- and asked the receptionist to be sure to tell him that I'd left a message for him and ask him to listen to his voicemail. I never heard back!
Description of Work: Brad came out and measured for replacement of 5 double hung windows with 3 double-hung and 1 slider windows (Vetter vinyl windows with wood interior). He also gave me an estimate on windows for a new sunporch I was contemplating building.

 + -1 moreI'm sure this is a good contractor, however, they probably don't need the work and that is why they estimated all of the work so high and weren't interested in the roofing work.
Description of Work: I had the company provide a bid for several items needed in the older home. The representative, Mike Scott was prompt, however did not spend much time looking at the home, and all of the estimates were high for gutters, insulation, and a new door. Also asked for a quote for roof work, and they didn't follow up and get someone to look at the roof.

 + 0 moreOutstanding experience! Al was very knowledgeable, skilled, friendly, a straight-shooter, and reliable. Everything he said would happen, did. Each work day, the work areas were well-cleaned up each day, and Al called to give me a report. He discovered that the 2nd floor walls were already insulated, so he adjusted the price accordingly. New roof vents and stucco patching provide evidence of areas insulated, which appears very complete. The stucco patching is the best Ive seen- in many places the patch is barely visible, even up close (what remains to be seen is how the added insulation impacts my homes climate and heating/cooling bills). Im giving the price an "A" because although it wasnt the cheapest quote I received, it was right in the middle of the range and very fair.
Description of Work: Blew in mineral wool insulation from home exterior by creating openings in the stucco. Insulated 1st floor walls and eyelid ceilings. Insulated 2nd floor roof/attic space & knee-walls. Added roof vents in several places. 3 days of work.

 + -1 moreI had 10 companies, both siding and painting, inspect my home, discuss options and provide bids. Beissel's sales representative was remarkably professional, knowledgeable and reliable. He provided the most thorough of all bids in the shortest amount of time. He also worked with me to choose the right style and color of siding. His focus was on my needs rather than ''upselling''. Their installers were perfectionists and delightful to work with. Some of their installer teams have worked with Beissel for up to 20 years. Since the quality of the installation job is at least as important as the product installed, skilled installers are vital to a successful job. My newly-sided home looks great. I love it, as does everyone else who sees it. I couldn't possibly be happier, and I highly recommend them!

Since we were a small job, it wasn't long before there was an opening and they were able to fit us in. The man who worked on our house was friendly and professional. The siding looks great. There were small piecies of siding to be picked up after the job was over, but other than that everything was great.
Description of Work: Covered all soffit, fascia, and crown molding on our home and 1 car gararge with aluminum trim. Vented soffits to code.

 + 4 moreWe had arranged that this work could be done over a period of time, which it was. I was very pleased that I was not billed for any of the work until the entire job was done. This spanned nearly 3 months time. The quality of the work and products are excellent. I noticed immediate changes on my energy usage after the insulation was put into the attic. They actually did me a big favor by installing the insulation in 2006, so I could get the tax deductions offered this year. This company does many other things, including windows, siding and decks. I have asked for estimates on additional work, which I fully intend to have done when I can afford it.
Description of Work: Update - approx 5+ years later: 1. An energy audit in 2011 showed there is not nearly enough insulation. What was there had been blown in (from the outside) and was covering all the vents in the attic. This explains why this house is always too hot, year round. The auditor doubted I got the amount of insulation I was supposed to have either. Beware of having your insulation blown in from the outside. 2. The screen door hasn't been functional. Despite the company's attempts to fix it, it never latched right and never stayed in the track correctly. I am simply not using it at all. I think this screen door was not very high quality, or there was a problem with the door opening that made it hard to fit properly. I would expect them to have the expertise to know if my door opening could not be fit properly. I did not hire this company to do any further work after this. I hired other companies to do the rest of my windows and doors. Original report: Insulation was added to attic, new gutters and downspouts were installed, and a new screen door was built and installed. This also involved troubleshooting on the part of the company. Josh Beissel spent quite a bit of time and shared expertise on the specific work I was having done, as well as several other things. I really got a good perspective on the overall exterior work my house needs. Since I just moved here within the past year, the advice was invaluable.

 + -1 moreThe workmanship was adequate, but certainly not optimal. For example, Al Schlagel told me he would seal all the by-passes into the attic using spray foam, but actually, he simply packed mineral wool into the cracks. I found a significant by-pass still open after the work was done. Also, the crew did not clean up insulation spilled in my yard when the pneumatic transfer hose burst. Surprisingly, Al could not explain how he determined the amount of insulation needed to achieve R-48 in my attic. He did not even know that all insulation is rated in terms of R-value per inch. Generally, Al is an amiable person and basically reasonable, but he does not communicate directly and maturely. He did not take time to discuss my specific questions about the work to be done, but rather rushed into doing the work.
Description of Work: Added mineral wool insulation to bring attic of my home up to a R-48 rating. Installed chutes for soffit vents and insulated trap door to attic.

 + 3 moreThis company was absolutely excellent to work with, with high quality products, incredible expertise, high degree of integrity, extreme patience, & follow-up after main project done. Jon Stenson is probably the best sales person I've ever dealt with, extremely service and quality oriented. He went the extra mile to give me a more decorative look to my 1946 home, ordering special trim to get the look I wanted and looking at various houses to find the one that best resembled what I wanted. Mark and Ed, who did the siding and carpentry, were great; great workmanship, extremely trustworthy, nice and very good at what they did. The gentleman installing the insulation told me I didn't need something initially recommended due to the original insulation in the house; I wouldn't have known either way. They were flexible to accommodate extra work orders, even when not convenient for them. Any issues were resolved promptly. This company has been the best of the best so far and a great value.
Description of Work: Work included complete vinyl siding, soffits, gutters, fascia, insulation, house wrap, storm window re-wrap, decorative trim, custom build out of front door with new trim, re-wrap of storm doors, re-wrap of picture window in front. This was one of the biggest jobs I've ever had done on my home, so I really wanted it to come out right, and it did in every respect. The results were great, even working through extreme winter temps.

They took care to ensure that everything was cleaned up and put together properly. The trim on the new windows looks better unfinished than the finished trim in the rest of the house! We will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: They replaced 5 windows in our house, including one 5'x6' sliding window, two 16"x5' windows, one stationary 3'x3' window, and one huge combination window 6'x8' with a half round top!

 + -1 moreThe sales person was efficient and professional. He brought samples. The scheduler was very good. The workers did not know where to install the door and left a note about the problem. They told the scheduler that the person who was at my house to let them in told them where to install but the door did not fit. This was not the truth. She suggested that she call me to confirm, but they figured it was a certain door from size but it wasn't. When I called the scheduler, she promptly rescheduled the appointment and it was taken care of promptly.
Description of Work: Three windows and a door were replaced.

 + 2 moreI took 3 bids and this is one of two that had the best price. I chose them because they were more than willing to do the other work that I needed done. Workers are friendly and represent the company well. It was a big job so there were 4 or 5 things I wasn't happy with, such as debris left in back yard and cracked window trim paint. I wrote a letter to Beissel and they gladly sent people to repair each. When all is said and done things turned out nicely. An area of improvement is the lack of communication. The jobs were done from July to September. I was never really sure when the people were coming out, I would be told next week and some guy would call me two weeks later to say they were coming out next day. Other than that, I would recommend.
Description of Work: Installed: 34 silverline windows for $13000. Partial residing of back of house $1600. Repaired porch roof $400. 5 storm doors $1500. Repaired rotted wood $550. Installed 15 target storm windows $1650.

ALSO WHILE TEARING OFF THE OLD ROOF, ONE OF THE SHINGLES RIPPED A HOLE IN A SCREEN, WHICH THE ROOFERS TOOK WITH THEM TO HAVE REPAIRED AND OUR SALES REP DELIVERED IT BACK TO US HIMSELF. WE WERE VERY HAPPY WITH THE WORK DONE AND THE ATTENTIVE SERVICE FROM BEISSEL. WE WOULD RECOMMEND THEM WITHOUT HESITATION.

AFTER SEVERAL RETURN TRIPS AFTER COMPLETION OF THE JOB, WE GAVE UP TRYING TO GET THE COMPANY TO DO A JOB MERITING THE PRICE. THE CREW LEADER'S STANDARD RESPONSE TO CONCERNS WAS, ''THAT'S THE WAY IT IS!'' AS IF WE HAD NO BUSINESS TO COMMENT UPON POOR WORKMANSHIP. THE FINAL CREW THAT WAS SENT OUT DID TRY TO REMEDY THE MISTAKES THE BEST THEY COULD; AT LEAST THEY TRIED. THE CLEANUP WAS NOT GOOD EITHER. EVERY SINGLE EVENING, AFTER THE WORKERS LEFT, MY WIFE & I HAD TO CLEAN THE DRIVEWAY FOR NAILS; NOT ONE EVENING PASSED WITHOUT US FINDING ANYWHERE FROM 5 TO MORE THAN A DOZEN. ALSO, A LOT OF LITTER WAS LEFT INCLUDING CIGARETTE BUTTS. WE WOULD NOT RECOMMEND BEISSEL TO ANYONE.
