Response from ADT Security Services, Inc
Upon review of the customers account, it was discovered that his alarm panel/keypad was obsolete and no longer serviceable; which prompted ADT to offer the customer an upgraded panel/keypad. The original keypad is much larger than the upgraded system’s keypad and left a gap on the customer’s wall. After the customer presented ADT with a copy of his contractor’s invoice for services rendered, ADT issued a $75 credit to the customer’s account to offset the cost he would have to pay for the repair. The customer has also requested to break the three (3) year agreement that he entered into when the system was upgraded. The customer was advised that the contract is valid and per a recording of the upgrade set-up that was reviewed, he agreed to those terms. Thank you. -Andrew

Description of Work: I am a Pulse customer. I have been trying to get someone to come out and service my system for MONTHS and cannot even get someone to call me. ADT is simply too big to service people. To trust the safety of your family/home to them is simply dangerous. I spent $1000.00 and yet I am planning on tearing everything out and switching to Comcast that is now offering security services and available in my area.

Description of Work: ADT purchased my Brinks home alarm company and I have been unable to get any accurate billing from them. I've spent over an hour on the phone with them and talked to various "customer service" people on three occasions. They don't know what they are doing and have not been able to send me an accurate bill. It makes we wonder how they will respond to an alarm if their systems are this poor. There's no dispute about the amount, just incompetence!

ADT SENT SOME GUYS DOOR TO DOOR IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD. THEY CAME IN AND PITCHED US ON A SECURITY SYSTEM. I DIDN'T FEEL LIKE WE NEEDED IT, BUT THEY JUST KEPT TALKING AND WOULDN'T LEAVE, THEY FINALLY CONVINCED MY SISTER THAT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA, SO WE SIGNED A SERVICE CONTRACT. THEY LED US TO BELIEVE THAT THE CONTRACT WOULD BE FOR A YEAR, HOWEVER, WHEN I CALLED TO CANCEL THEIR SERVICE, THEY TOLD ME I HAD SIGNED A THREE YEAR CONTRACT. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO CANCEL AND THEY WON'T LET ME. I DON'T WANT THEIR SERVICE ANY MORE AND I DON'T WANT TO KEEP PAYING FOR IT. THEY OFFERED $50 IF SOMEONE WE REFERRED WOULD GET A SYSTEM. ONE LADY HAD THE SYSTEM INSTALLED, BUT WE NEVER GOT THE $50.
Description of Work: I ALLOWED THEM TO INSTALL A HOME SECURITY SYSTEM, INCLUDED INSTALLATION AND SERVICE CONTRACT. INSTALLATION WAS FREE, WITH A $40 MONTHLY SERVICE CHARGE. THEY GAVE FREE INSTALLATION FOR ME ALLOWING THEM TO LEAVE A SIGN IN MY YARD.

THE SALES CONSULTANT WHO VISITED OUR HOME REFUSED TO RETURN OUR PHONE CALLS (3 TOTAL) IN ORDER TO ANSWER QUESTIONS REGARDING THE INSTALLATION TIME AND DATE. AS A RESULT, THE INSTALLER SHOWED UP AT OUR HOME AT A TIME WHEN WE WERE OUT. WE WROTE TO THE GENERAL MANAGER AND ALSO RECEIVED NO RESPONSE. BRINK'S PROVIDES EXTREMELY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND OPERATES WITH A TOTAL DISREGARD FOR THEIR CLIENTS. I WOULD NOT TRUST BRINK'S TO PROTECT EVEN MY FISH HOUSE.

DAN ARRIVED ON TIME. HE FIRST CHECKED TO SEE WHICH WINDOWS THAT I DESIRED TO HAVE HOOKED UP TO THE SYSTEM. AFTER PLACING IN THE KEYPAD, THERE WAS NO MESS LEFT BEHIND FROM THE DRILLING. HE TESTED THE SYSTEM TO MAKE SURE IT WAS WORKING AND WALKED ME THROUGH THE SYSTEM STEP-BY-STEP BEFORE HE LEFT.

I DON'T THINK THIS HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH MR. DELMONICO. I CONTACTED ADT THROUGH THE INTERNET. I SIGNED UP FOR A SECURITY SYSTEM TO BE INSTALLED. THE SALES REPRESENTATIVE, AFTER A COUPLE OF CHANGES, ARRANGED TO HAVE THE INSTALLATION TAKE PLACE ON MARCH 12, 2005 AT 11:00. NOT ONLY DID THE INSTALLER NOT SHOW UP BUT NOBODY CALLED. I AM THINKING THAT SIGNING UP THROUGH THE COMPUTER MIGHT HAVE BEEN A RIP OFF BECAUSE THE SALES REPRESENTATIVE ASKED FOR MY CREDIT CARD NUMBER OR CHECKING ACCOUNT NUMBER FOR AUTOMATIC DEDUCTION. I REFUSED TO GIVE EITHER ONE WITHOUT SEEING SOMEONE FACE TO FACE. IN ANY EVENT, IF IT WAS LEGITIMATE, IT WAS POOR BUSINESS PRACTICE, IF NOT, IT NEEDS TO BE REPORTED.

THE COMPANY TRAINS EMPLOYEES HOW TO BE VERY POLITE AND PROFESSIONAL ON THE PHONE. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY THE ONLY POSITIVE EXPERIENCE DEALING WITH A.D.T. THE NUMBER OF FALSE ALARMS IS INEXCUSABLE.

Description of Work: I HAD AN ONGOING SECURITY SERVICES CONTRACT WITH ADT FOR OVER 3 YEARS. ALWAYS PAID ON TIME AND ONLY HAD ONE FALSE ALARM WITH THEM OVER THAT TIME PERIOD. PROBLEMS STARTED WHEN ADT WENT TO AN 800 # AS OPPOSED TO A LOCAL NUMBER - IT WAS VERY HARD TO GET GOOD SERVICE. REPS DID NOT SEEM TO KNOW THE BUSINESS. IN DEC, I NEEDED TO HAVE EQUIPMENT REPAIRED. IT TOOK 6 PHONE CALLS TO GET AN APPOINTMENT, THEN THE TECH NEVER SHOWED. TO MAKE UP FOR IT, I WAS PROMISED AN UPGRADE, BUT WHEN IT WAS INSTALLED IT WAS NOT AN UPGRADE. THE REPAIR MANAGER BASICALLY CALLED ME A LIAR AND THEY NEVER PROMISED ANYTHING LIKE THAT. THAT WAS THE LAST STRAW. I TOLD THEM TO GET IT ALL OUT OF MY HOUSE. THEY RUINED A 3 YEAR RELATIONSHIP WITH A GOOD CUSTOMER BY CALLING ME NAMES AND TREATING ME VERY DISRESPECTFULLY.

THE NATIONAL MONITORING CENTER DID NOT HAVE OUR CORRECT ADDRESS FOR MORE THAN THREE MONTHS. THEY DID HOWEVER MANAGE TO GET OUR BILL TO THE RIGHT ADDRESS. WHEN I CALLED TO UPDATE THE CONTACT LIST THEY HAD NONE OF MY CORRECT RECORDS. I HATE TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF WE HAD AN EMERGENCY - THEY WOULD HAVE SENT RESCUE TO WHO KNOWS WHERE. I NOW AVOID CONTACTING ADT BECAUSE IT MEANS MORE HEADACHES. THE LOCAL ADT OFFICE DIDNT RETURN MY LAST CALL ANYWAY, AND I HAVE A 3 YEAR CONTRACT WITH THEM!

WE HAD 4 ESTIMATES ON THIS WORK AND DECIDED ON BRINKS. SALESPERSON WAS PROFESSIONAL AND RESPONSIVE. ALARM SYSTEM WAS INSTALLED VERY PROFESSIONALLY AND WITH LOTS OF CONSULTATION ABOUT WHERE COMPONENTS SHOULD GO. COMPANY HAS BEEN PUNCTUAL AND MET ALL EXPECTATIONS SO FAR. ANOTHER COMMENT ON ANGIES LIST SAYS TO READ THE FINE PRINT. THIS WAS GREAT ADVICE, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE SALESPERSON MISREPRESENTED WHAT WAS IN THE FINE PRINT ON ONE OCCASION. OVERALL THOUGH THIS HAS BEEN A GOOD COMPANY SO FAR.

AFTER WRITING A LETTER OF COMPLAINT TO THE HEAD OFFICE, THEY DID NOT RESPOND.

THE SYSTEM ITSELF CERTAINLY WORKS EFFECTIVELY, AS I FOUND OUT WHEN A FALSE ALARM OCCURRED AT MY HOME. THE POLICE AND AMBULANCE WERE BOTH DISPATCHED TO MY HOME WITHIN MINUTES TO RESPOND TO MY ALARM, AND WHEN I DIDN''T ANSWER THE DOOR, THE POLICE OFFICER BROKE IN TO MY HOME THROUGH A WINDOW TO MAKE SURE I WAS OKAY. THE PROBLEM, OF COURSE, WAS THAT I WAS SAFELY AT WORK AND NO ONE HAD TRIGGERED THE ALARM - IT WAS SIMPLY AN UNEXPLAINED FALSE ALARM FOR WHICH I HAD TO PAY THE COST OF REPLACING THE BROKEN WINDOW CAUSED BY THE POLICE OFFICER. THE BRINKS SYSTEM IS SUPPOSED TO CALL YOU FIRST BEFORE DISPATCHING THE POLICE TO MAKE SURE IT IS A REAL ALARM AND NOT A FALSE ONE, BUT BRINKS HAD INCORRECTLY ENTERED MY TELEPHONE NUMBER IN THEIR DATABASE WHEN I PURCHASED THE SYSTEM, AND THUS THAT STEP DIDN''T HAPPEN. WHEN I WROTE BRINKS TO COMPLAIN I NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE, EVEN AFTER SENDING TWO LETTERS AND TALKING TO SEVERAL PHONE REPRESENTATIVES.

I RECEIVED SENSORS ON MY FRONT AND BACK DOORS, A MOTION SENSOR FOR MY LIVING ROOM, AND A GLASS BREAK DETECTOR FOR MY OFFICE, ALL INSTALLED, FOR $99.00.
