In late June 2010, we had a 30 minute long hailstorm. Some of the hails were huge golf size balls and I have videos of the hailstorm. A day or two later, we received hordes of contractors soliciting our business. We choose John Dossett from Trusty Restoration LLC. With John's help, we got 50-65 percent from our insurance company, Badger Mutual. John continued to help us battle our insurance company to get the full amount, which we never got due to our roof being of Certain Teed brand that was in a class action suit (which expired). This year, John Dossett contacted us in mid-June to follow up from last year's contract we signed in July 2010 to see if we had installed our roof. We said we hadn't. So, John Dossett came to our house to show us roofing samples, went over prices, etc. We choose the roofing material. We paid him 50% of the cost - approx. $7,625.00. ABC Supply dropped off all of the roofing materials on our driveway on Friday morning - July 29th. John said a crew would be here on Sunday, July 31st to install the roof. However - the crew never showed up and we never received a call from John. We called Sunday night and left a message on John's machine. We didn't hear from John on Monday. So, I called his office in Appleton, WI on Tuesday morning and left a message. Laurie called me back and I asked her what's going on, why haven't we received any communication from John. She said, you know - men - they don't call. Women tend to need communication on an ongoing basis whereas men don't need to be in contact. I thought that was poor business practice. She said she would call me back after she talked to John. She then called me back and stated that John doesn't know why the crew didn't show up on Sunday. John then later called my husband to apologize for the lack of communication. Because of all this, I googled his business and discovered his license had been revoked in October 2010 for failure to report an insurance fraud. He had damaged his own home and tried to claim that his house had been hit by hail, which was fraudulent. However, he had renewed his license on June 27(?), 2011 and I am quite suspicious of this contract. I am not sure if he is fully 100% insured, bonded and licensed even though he is now registered with the State of Wisconsin. We contacted ABC Supply and learned that the supplies actually cost approx. $5,011.00 and John still has the remaining $2,610.00, which was unaccounted for. We asked a few crew to stop by our house for an estimate - the crews will do our roof in these price ranges - $4,300.00 to $5,000.00. We were appalled! Today, John contacted us and learned that we don't want to do business with him. John became upset and said we are not a one man job with a truck and ladder. We were disgusted because he never revealed he lost his license. We don't know if that means the contract is null and void. He said, well - he wants 20% of the cost so we owe him more money and there is no where in the contract that says we owe him that much. They haven't even touched our roof! The materials are sitting in our driveway, steeping in asphalt due to heat. Very unprofessional. We are still working on this one but very unhappy with this business. UPDATE: It should be noted that the original estimate was around $12,000.00 to $13,000.00. At last meeting, the estimate shot up to $15,500.00 to $16,000.00 and that is just the roof alone. We asked him over and over to verify the pricing and he was always vague each time. My husband telephoned him last night and John still did not disclose he had lost his license. We were upset that he had refrained key information from us. After we had told him we are shopping around to get several estimates on our roof, he became very upset and wanted our business. We have a hard time paying $16,000.00 of which $5,000.00 were used for supplies, $4,500.00 goes to roofers for labor, $500.00 for trash bin, and the remaining $5,000.00 goes into John Dossett's pocket. We believe $5,000.00 is too much money for John to profit from all this. John still demands more money even though they have not touched our roof yet. He forced it down our throats that he is sending Carlos and his crew over with his trash bin (I don't know if Carlos and his crew are legal USA residents and are legally employed to work in the USA) on Saturday. We are very upset that he is "forcing his business" on us. We told him we need several days to talk it over and figure out what we need to do. John still demands more money.
Description of Work: We had hail damage on our roof. John Dossett from Trusty Restoration came to our neighborhood where all the houses had hail damage from the 30 minute hail storm.
