Description of Work: The type of blacktop took 2 years to cure properly. I have heard that there is other stuff that cures quicker - like a few days. A few people turned their wheels when stationary and messed up the finish, but they did come out and fixed it. I can't remember if there was a charge for this. After 2 years, it has held up nicely. Also, the guys did a little extra bobcat work for me for a very reasonable price...was very helpful. For an A, I would have wanted a higher quality faster curing blacktop that included the seal. Scheduling it did take time with a couple changes to the date. They worked on their schedule.

The work was completed in a timely manner as agreed. Larry Shelton personally oversaw the project as manager. The time controlled panel took a period of time to synchronize the amount of water we used and as such sounded the alarm a few times. Each time I called Larry Shelton he came right out to the home and responded to the issue, tweaking the control panel. Mr. Shelton approached me during the work and stated "since they had the track hoe in the back yard he would pull several stumps that were in the near vicinity of the project at no additional cost. Once the work to the septic was completed the track hoe operator plucked the stumps from their place and tossed them into the woods. This created a much larger "re-seed" area than would have been required with just the septic repairs. After the ground settled the men returned to complete the re-seed portion of the project which required several truck loads of dirt due to the pulling of the stumps. The men were careful not to make tracks with the heavy loads of dirt and I was very happy with the results of the re-seed. I was totally impressed by Larry Shelton personally which was indicative of his company overall. Even after the project was completed and paid in full any time I called the company with an issue they responded quickly to remedy any issues.
Description of Work: In March 2009 we made an offer on a home which required septic upgrades to bring it to code. The sellers agreed to place money in escrow to provide these services. We chose Shelton Excavating, Inc. to do the work. Shelton Excavating provided an upfront estimate to bring the system up to code which would require the addition of a 1000 gallon pump tank and timed control panel. In addition several stumps were pulled with the track hoe that were in the immedicate vicinity of the septic area.

Information gathering and scheduling went fine. The contractor was courteous and helpful. Excavation work went quickly and on schedule. Workers were friendly. It was the finishing work that was the problem. The yard was a muddy mess for months--after every rain, the mud stream across the sidewalk became a constant provider of muddy footprints up to and into the house. In the meantime, portions of the excavation area sank 12" or more, posing a distinct hazard on either side of the sidewalk (which was now unsupported where the soil dropped out from under it). After numerous phone calls and promises to finish up the project, the sink holes were finally filled and the grass seed and mulch were applied by the contractor in late spring of the following year. Not surprisingly, their finish work on the yard was quite hap-hazard--we ended up re-grooming the yard and properly applying grass seed and mulch ourselves. My suspicion is that the contractor had the best intentions but accepted more work than they had resources to handle properly. A lot of work may have been directed their way all at once because numerous homeowners were required by Duluth to have this work done before the end of 2009. Another batch of homeowners is in the same situation in 2010.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced the main sewer line from the house to the street as required by the city of Duluth (removal of inflow and infiltration - "I & I"). Also removed a mature tree by our request. Replaced disturbed portions of sidewalk and street. Re-seeded and mulched disturbed portions of the yard.
