Our experience with Dakota was excellent, with great interactions from every individual we worked with. Ron, our salesperson, was excellent. He visited with us three different times. He did not rush us, and took time to answer a lot of questions. Our interactions with the owner, Chuck, were also very positive. He went to the jobsite a few days before the crew started, just to get a feel for the work to be done. On the actual day of install, the crew was great. They had a few ideas for small changes in placement, which worked out to be a great change. This was about 300ft of fencing, with complexity due to our hilly yard. But everything was completed in one day, with the crew staying until almost 9pm. They checked alignment with the finished product, to ensure the fence was perfectly straight.

Representative showed up for the appointment (late) and provided us with a quote of $3,800 for the fence material and construction. We had a small amount of demolition that needed to be quoted - Dakota's representative said she was confident it would only add $200 to $300 to the job which would give us a final price between $4,000 and $4,100. All we needed to do to initiate the process was provide a credit card and put 1/3 down, which would secure our spot on their construction schedule. We called back on Saturday morning (next day) and left a voicemail that we wanted to provide the initial down payment and get on their schedule ASAP (which we were told in our initial consultation would be around the end of August or first week in September). The Dakota Representative called back Monday and explained she was getting the demolition price finalized and then would call back and confirm the exact amount she would be taking from the credit card as the initial deposit against the job. On Monday afternoon I received the call back from the salesperson and told that it would be only two hundred dollars for the demolition work, but she had made an error in her initial calculations and undercharged us by $800.00. Our new price was now $4,800 and she was also quick to point out that this "new pricing" already included our Angie's List 10% discount. This sales representative felt way worse about the grief she had received from her manager than the increased pricing message she delivered to me. I still tried to reach out to Dakota Unlimited and sent an email to the Office Manager (Michelle) asking to see if we could get some sort of explanation related to the pricing process. No response. If you use Dakota Unlimited, I hope your fence installation project is perfect. Based on my experience, follow-up is not a strength.

I am SO disappointed in Dakota. I talked to neighbors, read reviews, and decided to go with Dakota since our next door neighbors used them and had a good experience -- plus we wanted exactly the same fence. We first received an estimate for the full back section of our yard (90 feet) plus two short sections near our house (32 feet). That estimate came in at $2696 for 122 feet of fencing with three gates. We decided we could live with the old fence for the back section, and thus changed our order from 122 feet to just 32 feet (also with three gates -- one single one and one double). Here's the mistake I made: I gave them the go ahead before really looking at the new estimate. I should have never done that. (Expensive) lesson learned. Our new 32 feet of fence cost us $1990! We cut our order by 75% but the price only went down 25%! When I called to talk to Ron to ask if there was perhaps a mistake in the billing and he accidentally charged us for the long 90' section by mistake, he said no, the $2k was correct, because the big cost is labor. Ummm .... there was a whole lot less labor when we cut our order by 75%. He said he would look at how many hours it actually took to install our wee little fence and would just charge us for the hours worked. The workers were at our house MAYBE five hours total (one day two guys installing the posts, then two other guys came back the next week to install the fence itself), so I was hopeful that we would indeed see a much, much smaller bill. (Side note: the workers were great! Nice guys, professional, efficient.) But can you guess what happened? Yep. Ron charged us the full amount. I feel like we were totally scammed on price and then lied to about a possible resolution. I feel sick about our little two thousand dollar fence and would warn others not to trust Dakota.

Overall, the experience I had with Dakota Unlimited was terrific. I have no complaints about the process, and everything went smoothly. Estimate I reached out to the company through Angie's List, and heard back from Andrew right away. He came out a few days later, walked the backyard with me, made some measurements, and told me that he would get back to me in a few days. This process was flawless. We had a few questions about our neighbors fences and the style that we wanted, and Andrew was extremely patient and thorough. Price I've given them only a "Good" for pricing, and really that is somewhat unfair. I don't know what other companies would have cost for the same fence, and the price was fair, given everything I know. After meeting with Andrew we decided to go with Dakota Unlimited, given how good we felt about the service we had received. Responsiveness This is my real only complaint about the whole process. There was a period of time (about a month) after I had put the down payment on the fence that I did not hear from the company. I later learned that this was due to a backlog (due to the late Spring this year) and the parts for the fence had taken longer to arrive than anticipated. I would have appreciated hearing from them on this proactively - but at the end of the day, not a huge deal. Installation This process went flawlessly. The guys installing the fence got started immediately, and I left for work. I arrived home later than afternoon to a completed (minus the gates) fence. 2 days later, the gates arrived, and the process was completed. The foreman on the project did a great job of keeping me updated throughout the process, and the team did a great job with the dirt removal as well. I had asked to have some additional dirt next to the garage removed (even though it wasn't a part of the fence process), and I am more than satisfied with that part of the job. Overall I highly recommend using Dakota Unlimited for your fencing project. The fence looks great, we're completely satisfied and the team we worked with was professional and courteous.

As I explained previously they gave me a price on installation and said they would get back to me on lattice style privacy materials price if I did the work. They never called back.

The sales process was pleasant and consultative, she did a good job of listening, and was willing to negotiate on price. They also met a tight timeline and did very good work. An all around positive experience.

They showed up right on time and got to work immediately. They knew what they were doing and did a fantastic job. The fence is really solid now and they made a beautiful new RV type gate. Would highly recommend them.

I LOVE my new fence! Dakota Unlimited came to us as a subcontractor; hired by the landscaping company doing a major project in our behalf (and selected by them because of ongoing experience of their professionalism and reliability). During the week prior to performing the install, Chuck Engelmeier came out to inspect the site, and to discuss our hopes/expectations. On the day of the install, the weather was unseasonably hot, but our 3-man team was there anyway. The complete installation was a one day job. They worked steadily throughout the day -- cheerfully, politely, conscientiously... It was fun to watch. I was very impressed by the precision of the process: with a semi-private fence, there is 1/4" spacing between the slats -- if anything was even a little bit off, it would be very noticeable. Their worksmanship was meticulous. Even the "end-of-the-day" clean-up was completely professional and very nicely done. Thanks, guys! (and thanks to Dundee Nursery and Landscape for sending you to us!).

We got bids from several fence companies for a privacy fence for our new home. We wanted something maintenance free that blended with the color of the house and wooded lot (i.e. not white). From the get go, Dakota was very accommodating, helping us through every step of the purchasing and installation process. Andrew was our sales rep and extremely responsive and easy to work with --- he was able to give us a bid and do most of the work over the phone or email, which was great considering our busy travel schedules. Andrew also let us check out sample fence colors/pieces from the showroom so we could see what different colors of the maintenance-free material looked like in "real life". Dakota also has a great showroom, where you can really get a visual of what options are available. We ended up with a weathered cedar color fence, with an amazing design suggested by Andrew (6 foot privacy fence transitions nicely into 4 foot gate area). Installation was quick, professional with no hassle. We would highly recommend Dakota to other homeowners.

Ron miller was great to work with. Explained all aspects from the bid to the final product. We chose to dig out our existing 6ft wood privacy fence and corner posts to save money. He gave us a time frame when the work would start. The installers were also great. We had a sprinkler system and did mark this. They accidentally damaged 3 sprinkler heads but called a friend of his to come fix them without charging us. Only downside was that they could not get all areas of the fence to the ground so we have a fair amount of landscaping to do. We were also told the back corner panels would have longer pickets to help with the curve and this was not done. However we love the fence. Try also did a great job with clean up.

I received two bids for the fence project. Dakota was higher-priced, but offered more ideas and spent more time with me discussing the design - which is what I wanted and needed. Dakota came in after I had a new retaining wall installed by another vendor. Joe, the Dakota salesman, was in touch with the wall vendor ahead of time in case they had to think about this fence project while installing the retaining wall. In the sales process, Joe was very polite and helpful, punctual and worked around my schedule nicely. He provided me with a quote and blueprint of where the fence would go in my yard within 24 hours of my meeting with him. I wanted the fence to totally enclose my backyard to accommodate my dogs. Joe suggested a cedar wood picket-type fence. I liked the pictures he showed me and opted for that. We spent some time discussing gates as well. Chain link was used in one small corner of the yard that would join up with my neighbor's fence. Since I had my fence join up to my neighbor's property, I had to get my neighbor to sign off on the plan before Dakota would do the work. The fencing crew came on a rainy day to put in the post-holes. A week later they came to build the fence (on another rainy day). Because of the way the retaining wall went in prior to this fence project, Dakota had to modify the layout of the fence from our original blueprint, but they did a marvelous job with it. They sent very experienced people and I was very much at ease letting them make certain decisions without me in a couple problem spots - letting them figure out the best way to build and what would look the best. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the look and quality workmanship of the new fence, and the dogs like it too. I've gotten many complements on the fence from my neighbors all around. Dakota offered a discount for being an Angie's List member.

It was a great experience. From LuAnn who came out on the coldest day of the year to present the bid and who answered all my questions via e-mail to the beautiful custom built cedar gate to the guys who cut through the massive brush and hauled it and previous dog fence away and set the posts to the guys who surprised me by finishing the job while I was at work. My dog and I are very very happy!

Very professional company with punctual and knowledgeable representative. We wanted a wooden fence for our backyard. Unfortunately, the bid came back at over 30% more expensive than our other bids. As a result, we did not select them to complete the work.

Dakota Unlimited is a Top-Notch, professional organization. The entire process was a positive experience with no issues. Rick handled the quote and change order requests promptly. Separate teams handled setting the posts and installing the fence. Clean-up was spotless. Excellent workmanship. Overall, achieved highest level of customer satisfaction.

Excellent, I hate having to do anything like this because you just do not know what questions to ask and what could go wrong. But enough information was given to us to know the answers.

This was a great Experience from beginning to end. Rick came out and did a thorough estimate of all the job. He was punctual and professional. Didn't try to oversell me On things I did not need. The installation crew was truly awesome. The foreman did a great job managing the work. The entire crew worked very hard throughout the day, And were truly committed to doing a great job. The fence looks great and I have received several compliments from my neighbors.

The whole experience was first-rate. The estimator was prompt and friendly. The construction crew was prompt, professional and did fast work. Excellent customer service all the way around. In addition to fixing the fence panels, the estimator volunteered to repair a couple of fence connections that had separated and to fix two gates that were not closing properly. I would highly recommend this company to anyone seeking fence construction or repair. Great job and fair prices.

We started calling for estimates in August. I had to call the company more times than I thought necessary to get the estimates sent to us. Because the city we live in has strict codes, I called the city to find out what the code was for railings. It was difficult to pick something out when we knew there was a good possibility we couldn't use it. I assumed they would have known the information before they sent the salesman out. We were told that someone, Todd, would be out to take the measurements in within a certain time frame. That didn't happen again till I made another call. Todd told me that they were quite busy and that there were others before us and we had not been forgotten. We liked his honesty. Todd did everything within the time frame he said he would do. They cleaned up and the workmen were easy to work with. The railings look great. I would use this company again.
