I felt that they were trustworthy, and I liked their estimate. Unfortunately, we couldn't go through with the project due to budget constraints.

This review is about what happened after I attempted to hire Midwest on my own to correct a safety concern with their installation of as whole house surge suppressor as a subcontractor for Home Depot. Midwest agreed with me about the safety concerns with the surge suppressor purchased from Home Depot and offered to sell me a surge suppressor that they were familiar with that did not have this safety issue at no additional cost to me. The electrician who came out to install it told me that the only way to install it properly would require installation of a subpanel to open up a space in the main electrical panel to install it on its own dedicated breaker. He wrote down the work that would be needed and took photos of the existing panel. He said that John, the head at Midwest, would provide a bid for me the following week. After no follow up from John, I called to see what was going regarding a bid for additional work. The person taking the call said that John would get back to me. He didn't. I called again and again there was no response. Note that I was OK with paying for the additional work that would be needed. I am perplexed about why a company would fail to provide a bid for additional work that I was willing to pay for and that was needed to correct a safety issue with the equipment they installed as a subcontractor for Home Depot. I hired another company to do the work. I learned later that the work that Midwest did do as a subcontractor for Home Depot should have been done under a St. Paul permit since St. Paul requires a permit for any modification of an electrical panel. Both Home Depot and the first electrician from Midwest said that a permit was not required. Any reputable electrical contractor would have known that it was their responsibility to know whether a permit was required and to apply for a permit. This is the second time that I have had problems with work done by a subcontractor for a major retail store. My impression is that they don't know and don't police their subcontractors and that the contractors who are willing to do their work are not very good.

Midwest was great. I was happy with their professionalism, follow up and helpfulness. No complaints. I lost power 2 days after it was installed and I was thrilled that we could function without missing a beat when the generator kicked in after 10 seconds!

They did a good job with the installation, and the price seemed reasonable. They also followed up to see if the installation had passed inspection which it had. The only issue, however, was that the electricians didn't put some ceiling tiles back in their original positions, but that was minor.

Timely, true to their estimate, and professional.

Everything went perfect. The representative (tech) was very polite and professional from arrival to final departure. Was very pleasant to talk to throughout the entire installation. No problems whatsoever!

Midwest was price competitive and responsive to my needs. Helped me select the right indoor and outdoor lighting for garage and completed the work on time.

We bought coupons from an online group for six hours of service from Midwest Electric. John came to our house. He personally looked at the electrical box we needed expanded. After I told him we had coupons, he stated it would take at least 5 hours to do the work. He set up a time. We recieved a call an hour before they were to arrive asking where we were. The guy who arrived had stopped at Home Depot on the way, but had brought the wrong stuff. Apparently the job could not be done the way that John stated. The guy needed to go back to home depot to get different equipment. Interestingly, the guy who showed up stated it was at tops a 2 hour job. It ended up taking longer due to all the inefficencies they created. John had assured us that it would pass code.IT DID NOT PASS CODE. Another delay. John sent someone out to do the job correctly. Once again we were told it passed code, but there was no sticker stating this. We called John again, he said we could call the city the next week to get confirmation. We felt we did not have the service provided that was originally promised. Also, we talked with another electrician who agreed it was not a 5 hour job. I think the hours were at least doubled to make up for the discount coupon. Than sub code work was done. The additional time they put in was due to their own mistakes that originally kept the work from passing code. This was straight forward job that a qualified electrician should have been able to look at and assess from the start. Our second encounter with John - like I said we still had a coupon to use. It was a very simple job. We needed an outlet added to a basement storage room. No dry wall to cut. Everything was easliy seen and reachable. John set up a day and time. But no one showed up. We called John. He finally aggred to get someone out the next day. He used an outside electrician. For this I think we were greatful. The guy did a great job. We had him fix another thing while he was there. At least we found a GOOD electrician out of this disaster.

I plan to use them.
