Description of Work: The old cedar sheet siding (board and batton) was removed and replaced with prepainted James Hardy panels and trim on one side of our two story walk-out home. They did a very good job and they kept the worksite very clean especially considering the fact they were working outside in December. Their price was competitive. Because they were working in weather too cold for painting, they will be returning this spring to do the final touch-up painting.

Description of Work: They put on a new roof and resided one outside wall and replaced 3 skylights. It took way too long. I first contacted them in April and there were many delays. Some due to weather but many due to their scheduling issues. I had to get 2 other professionals to finally finish all the work. They were very nice and fair, but it was very drawn out. The work that they did was quality.

Description of Work: Ben Juncker has restored my faith in the notion that ethical business practice is not an oxymoron. This morning I had three roofing companies come to give me a bid. The first guy didn't go on the roof - just walked around and came up with an estimate of $7,299 (but it could be more if they found anything needing to be replaced.) Second guy went on the roof and came up with a $8,798 estimate (which did, and I appreciated, include any unexpected repairs.) And then, (cue the heralding of angels) Ben Juncker of Craftsman's Choice arrived (early, even.) He went on the roof, he took photos, and he came back down and said, "Your roof is in good shape. You don't need to replace it." If he wasn't married and about 28 years younger than me I would have planted a big wet kiss on him. He walked me through my whole roof, explained about how you can tell if there is wear to be wary of, suggested a zinc strip to clean the soiled look (probably from the exhaust of the airplanes that seem like they are going to land on my roof). I wish I did need a roof so I could give this fine, ethical and thorough young man the business. If you're smart and really do need a roof, you can count on an entirely honest assessment from Craftsman's Choice.

Things went fast, clean up was great, the only nails I found were those that had rolled under the dumpster and couldn't be gotten to until after the dumpster had been removed. I can deal with that, I picked them up myself.

Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal from this company for: $49 for a Custom Deck/Patio Design with Measurement & Plans! The company is run by two brothers, apparently. One brother came to assess the work to do on our patio and was to draw up a blueprint per the deal. Months later, when I hadn’t heard anything, I contacted the company. His brother responded to my call saying something happened with the other brother and he was having to pick up his work. The second brother came out and performed another assessment and we received the plan/blueprint. I feel they did their best to honor the agreement under the circumstances. We have not used them since, but would reach out to them if we were ready to finance the deck. I do not remember when the work was started/completed as it’s been so long but it started shortly after I bought the deal, perhaps June 2012. The work was completed probably six months later. At this time, I would rate them as B Good. I’m thankful that the second brother took the time to redo the work his brother did previously so that we could get the product promised.

Description of Work: Craftsman sent Jim out to review my roof, insulation and ventilation as I had just dealt with some ice dams. He was prompt, knowledgeable and friendly. While I did not need their services at this time, I do plan on using them in the future. I was very impressed and highly recommend them.

Description of Work: Basic job was to remove stucco from three sides of a large home and triple garage, do any remediation necessary and install prepainted LP Smart-Side including LP pre-mitered corners. We asked eight vendors for proposals and received six replies. The range for the basic job was $32,000 to $102,000 (all of the vendors are listed with Angie). Ben from Craftsman's Choice was second low at $35,000 plus actual cost of the permit. No one's bid included the cost of remediation since the scope of that is unknown until after tear-off. Four did include their carpenter's hourly rate and their material mark-up. We had confidence that Craftsman's Choice would handle remediation as necessary with a minimum of fuss, time and additional expense. That's exactly how it worked out. It was an additional $4,600 which was extremely fair for the work involved. (Other vendors had sounded like we should be ready with an arm, a leg and our first-born.) Ben also helped us make all the decisions about colors, trim, and materials that were part of getting the project started. Before the job proceeded, we negotiated about $4,500 of additional work that was added to the contract before the job started including: rebuilding the chimney, replacing the trim around 2 additional garage doors and an upgrade in the base row material to Azek with color all the way through as opposed to painted. I was able to take vacation for most of the time so the crew had the pleasure of me looking over their shoulders and asking a lot of dumb questions. I could confer as some decisions were made and did enjoy, first-hand, seeing the professional quality of their work. The job included protecting our shake roof, sky-light windows, deck and pool, especially as the stucco was removed. No problems at all. Clean-up was done daily and an intensive policing of the area was done at job's end. Ben's time estimate for the job was two and a half to three weeks. The crew worked exactly fifteen days, 4 to 7 guys each day. Eight color-coordinated downspouts were part of the job and their downspout and gutter guy's choice of color was less than wonderful. Upon seeing them, Ben agreed, helped pick out the "right" color and had them replaced immediately. Ben and Chris did an inspection, mostly for paint touch-up and their eyes were much better than mine. When done with that, we had one more inspection and then final sign-off and payment. My wife and I approached this major undertaking with much trepidation but Ben and his crew put us completely at ease and really made the project as painless as possible and finished on time and on budget. Description of Work: This was a special for $49.00. They came out and took a look right away and said that we would have drawings in a couple weeks. I think it was 2 months later we received one drawing that was very basic. I know it was only $49.00 however, I expected a bit more and at least a follow up phone call.

Description of Work: Choosing a contractor with confidence is a challenge. But when it is a major project, the fear factor goes sky high. I am thankful that I found Craftsman's Choice via Angie's List. They have provided 5-star service from start to finish. From thoroughness and explaining what they planned to do and why to ongoing communications to the actual quality of work -- they exceeded every expectation I had. And I am one incredibly picky customer. The project included replacing 10 windows, many of them extremely large, a custom-cut front door and a shingle roof. I chose them based on their professionalism since their bid was competitive with others. Company owner Ben gave a detailed quote with explanations; he helped me make choices that were beyond my knowledge. Project manager Chris and the team then coordinated with the window company to ensure that I got the exact product I needed and tackled the custom door without a hitch. The work was done with a high level of skill, the crew was pleasant and hard-working, and the communications all the way through has been top-notch. Kim handled the billing (it was insurance, so it was complicated) expertly. I plan to use Craftsman's Choice in the future for other exterior projects and only wish that they did interior work. You can't go wrong with these people.

Description of Work: Dan and I met at my property to assess wind damage. Dan reviewed wind damage to the siding and flat roof then agreed to a meeting with an assigned claims agent. When Dan met with the agent he forgot to review the siding damage. The only roof comment noted to me by the insurance claims agent stated by Dan was "Dan told me that he did not like heights" as they walked around the flat roof. When the agent requested from Dan a detailed bid he ignored her for two weeks. Several emails later Dan finally sent her his version of a detailed bid that included about six words. Craftsman's representation was so horrific that the insurance company called in an engineering firm.
