Overall, the roofing project was a success. There was one area of concern that was immediately reviewed by Craftsman and new roof tiles were installed. I was impressed with how the Craftsman team meets regularly reviewing projects, to be sure best practices are implemented and through careful work is provided.
Description of Work: Craftsman's Choice had completed our siding project which resulted in my contacting Matt Enfield regarding roofing needs. We hired his crew to replace all roofing, add gutter protectors and install gutters. Samples were brought to the home to be sure our choice would enhance home appearance as well as provide excellent house protection. The crew worked well together. The project was completed in a timely manner. Care was taken by Craftsman management to be sure our needs and concerns were addressed. At the end of each work day, the work area was left in a tidy manner. In addition to roofing, there was some water damage in the garage and entry way. All areas were repaired.

Our previous roof had organic asphalt shingles and needed complete replacement. We had previously gotten several estimates from roofers rated highly on Angies List. Craftman?s Choice came in around the middle. Ben, the estimator that came to our house, was friendly and informatiive. He presented various options, answered our questions and explained things clearly. This was in Dec. 2011 and we agreed to wait and hope for a warm-up and favorable forecast to hopefully get it installed before Spring. We lucked out with the weather and as it turns out we lucked out with our choice of roofing company. The crew worked efficiently, they came in at 8 am and finished aound noon! They did a good job cleaning up and the roof looks great! Another thing I appreciated about working with this company is that they did a good job when it came to communication. Calls were returned promptly and whether we were dealing with the estimator, crew leader or office staff they were always friendly and courteous. We would definitelly recommend them to others and based on this experience, we will consider Craftsman?s Choice if we need siding or window work done in the future.

We selected Craftsman's Choice based upon reviews on the James Hardie WEB site and reviews on Angie's List. We contacted the company and Ben came to our home to discuss the project and give us a quote. Ben was very personable and explained the work and answered all of our questions to our satisfaction. Ben gave us a list of customers in our area and we looked at several of the homes to evaluate the work appearance and quality. The work was started as scheduled and took a little longer than planned due to weather issues. A project manager (Chris) was assigned to our job and he was knowledgeable and professional. A 3 person crew was assigned to do the siding, soffit, fascia, door and window wrap work. The same crew (Eric, Rick and Bennie) worked dally until the work was done (about 3 weeks). We were impressed with their work and their professional skills. They answered all of our questions that arose during the work process in a direct and pleasant manner. The stone work was performed in 1 day by a separate crew from a subcontractor. The stone work was done to our satisfaction and looks very nice. The painting was performed about a week after the siding completion (to allow for the caulking to cure) in one day by a crew of 3 people. Ben had noted that there was some rotting wood around 4 of our windows and said that when the siding was torn off that they would evaluate what needed to be done. It was determined that the windows needed to be removed to repair the damage. Ben did not pressure us but proposed replacing the windows rather than reinstalling the old (20 year old) windows. We chose to replace the windows and that was done after they arrived in 1 day by a crew of 3. This crew was different that those that did the siding but were also very knowledgeable and professional. Overall, the house looks great and we are very pleased with the results of the work performed by Craftsman's Choice. We believe that they gave us a fair price and just took care of a number of minor things that came up during the process without charging us for each and every item. Everyone that worked on our home was personable, highly skilled, and professional. We enjoyed interacting with them as the work progressed. We would have liked to have a little more pro-active communication from them during the various work steps to keep us informed about pending deliveries and starting dates for the various work steps. We discussed this concern with Ben (one of the company owners) during a follow-up visit and he said they were growing rapidly as a company and planned to improve on this communication work. Everyone (neighbors, friends, and relatives) that has seen our home has commented on how nice it looks and our neighbors were particularly impressed with the crew's daily clean-up to keep the home as neat and tidy as possible during the work process. We would highly recommend Craftsman's Choice to anyone that wanted siding and related work performed on their home.
Description of Work: Complete home siding/soffit/fascia removal and replacement with James Hardie materials. Front entry and garage entry door removal and replacement. Removal and replacement of 4 windows. Installed decorative stonework on the sides of the garage door. Painting of the soffit, fascia, siding trim, storage shed and mailbox. Aluminum re-wrap of all existing windows.
The project took less than a month and seemed to go quickly. As to be expected a big project like this, there were a few bumps in the road, but the company was repsonsive and kept me apprised of what was happening. All the associated sub-contractors and employees were easy to work with. The total cost was towards the upper end of my price range, but the materials and workmanship appear to be of top quality and I feel I got my money's worth on the project.
Description of Work: They built a 20' x 22' garage, including the tear-down and removal of the old garage and concrete slab. They poured a new slab, added 2 courses of block and the building was clad with Hardie Board concrete siding. They installed a service door and window in addition to the 17'-wide garage door. They also buried a 30' power cable from the house to the garage and wired the building. The roof trusses allow me to have plenty of overhead storage.

The crew was very professional and experienced. They were friendly and were respectful of the disruption the work caused. Most important, they did a great job. The end result is beautiful!
Description of Work: Replaced the siding on our 5000 sq ft house with Hardy Board.
We selected Craftsman's Choice on the strong recommendation of our perfectionist neighbor, who was satisfied with their work. During the project, I had numerous others stop by to tell me that they had used Craftsman's Choice, too, and were pleased with the service. We had extensive work done--a complete redo of the exterior of our home, which is now one of the best-looking houses in the neighborhood. I was completely satisfied with the work quality, professionalism, and particularly the character of Ben Juncker, who worked with us closely throughout the process. Ben understood that we lead busy lives and that he would have to take charge not only of his responsibilities of the project (employees, scheduling, etc.), but that he would have to be persistent in helping guide us through our decisions and to make it easy for us to do our part to keep the project moving along. In short, Ben was able to manage us as well as his employees. I had enough confidence in Ben's character and attention to detail to let him make certain selections, and we were not disappointed by doing so. In sum, I would hire Craftsman's Choice again, and have plans to do so for another project next spring.

I can't tell you how professional he is! He worked with our insurance company hand and hand. He took care of everything with the insurance company. He was there when we needed him, responded promptly and just did everything he could do. I was very pleased that I didn't have to worry about anything and could have complete trust in him! We are having our windows replaced in the spring by him as well.

I got an estimate from Craftsman's Choice Inc. I did not use his services. He came out on September 20th to give me an estimate to do my roof, soffit and fascia. To maintain a wind rating shingles are to be installed a certain way. When we asked about this we were told that would require two more nails per shingle, This would cost an additional amount. I felt there was a bait and switch element to this. For this reason I felt like he wasn't totally upfront with us. There were other items there was some confusion on that may have been miscommunication. One of these also would have an extra cost.

Ben had met with these homeowners, and had primarily worked with the husband during the estimating process. The wife had only met with Ben for a short while, and this report was written by her without the husband’s knowledge. This is why it is important for both decision makers to be available during the estimate process so we can clearly explain options and details to help eliminate confusion. Ben and the husband were on good terms. We have no idea what this is about. As a GAF certified roofing contractor we always install roofing to meet the manufactures requirements. Also, I have to say that Ben is one of the most straight forward honest people around. If you scroll through the reports you will hear lots of positive comments about our good friend Ben.

Great experience and could not be happier with the outcome. From Mike in sales to Chris as the project manager, Ryan handling windows/doors and the whole siding crew, everyone was a pleasure to work with, they readily answered questions, followed up on outstanding issues, problem-solved when anything unexpected occurred and were professional, well organized and courteous. There were alot of pre-sale decisions to be made and they were prompt and helpful in answering our questions and giving us a high degree of confidence in what the finished product would be. They worked hard to get the door and window business, they were price competitive and we certainly benefited from not having to coordinate with another manufacturer/installer. The siding crew worked incredibly long days but the workmanship and attention to detail is excellent. Kept a neat job site and were always working around our family's schedule (compeition for the driveway, lawn work etc) as the total project took about two weeks. We have to say this is one of the best experiences we have had on a home improvement project...Craftsman's Choice has set the bar by meeting and exceeding expectations.
Description of Work: Re-sided entire house with James Hardie siding. Replaced new entry door w/ sidelights, screen door, patio door and all upstairs windows (Marvin windows/patio door, Therma-Tru entry door). Re-siding included tear-off and disposal. Finish painting include re-painting all white trim and fixtures.

We received three bids for contractors to re-side our house with fiber cement siding, and decided on Craftsman's Choice - the middle bid - as they seemed to have the best balance of professionalism/experience and price. I was also intrigued to see, in the sales presentation, how they could put a "creative" touch on the house by adding custom features such as shutters and gable pieces. I wanted that done for our house, and they ended up including those features for free in the quote. They also gave us quotes for either replacing our soffits/fascia with Hardie material, or covering them with aluminum, but told us that our existing wood soffits/fascia were in good shape and did not need to be replaced - so we opted to paint them instead. Craftsman's Choice asked for a quarter of the payment when the contract was signed, a quarter when the project was started, and the balance upon completion of the siding installation, which seemed reasonable. They started work about two weeks after the initial signing of the contract. We had a minor problem when they delivered the materials to our driveway the Friday before they started work. I had noticed that there was a rip in the bag that covered the siding, and strong thunderstorms were predicted that weekend. I had read that fiber cement siding could have problems if it got wet before installation, so my husband called and they said they would send someone over to throw a tarp over the materials. They did, but the tarp was ripped and not secured, so the top few pieces of siding got wet from the rain that weekend. When they started work on Monday, we talked to the owner, who said that wet siding that had been let out to dry was acceptable per manufacturer's instructions, and shouldn't affect our warranty. But they would be willing to discard the wet pieces if we wanted. The crew came out to install the siding for the entire work day, every weekday (except for one rainy day) until it was completed a week and a half later. In the meantime, the plumber came and replaced our exterior faucets. The Friday of the first week of work, they had finished the work by the air conditioner and turned it back on before they left. The air conditioner did not function all weekend, and we couldn't figure out why. The following Monday, they sent an A/C repairman over to look at it. He found out a fuse (?) in the A/C unit had been tripped during the work, and flipped it back, which caused the A/C to resume function. Craftsman's Choice covered the cost of having the A/C repairman come over. There was a couple week lag between the completion of the siding installation and the arrival of the painting crew. Before the painters came over, a representative walked with us around the house and made notes about what we wanted painted what color. The painters, by default, go over all of the pre-painted Hardie trim just to make sure any nail heads, etc get covered - so you can elect to have trim kept the trim color or painted to match the house. After the painting crew was finished, we had a final walk-through to sign off on the project and have any minor problems corrected. We didn't find any, but the representative who walked around with us found a few minor things to improve. On one of the final walk-throughs, we went up on our roof and found a place by the chimney where the shingles had failed. We hired one of the Craftsman's Choice workers to repair the damage, using some spare shingles from our garage. Our siding looks great, and has held up well the first year after installation. A portion of the rear side of our house had a very large mound of snow pressed up against it for most of the winter, but there was no noticeable damage to the siding in that area. We had one problem near our front door where a gutter leaked and dripped ice down the side of our house, right over a seam between two pieces of siding. The water froze and expanded, swelling the ends of those two pieces. Once we noticed the problem, called Craftsman's Choice and told them about it, and they came out a week later and replaced both of those siding pieces under warranty. Overall, I was pleased with the quality of work and attention to detail from Craftsman's Choice. I would not hesitate to recommend them or hire them again in the future. We did encounter a few problems, as described in my review, but they were all resolved easily, a testament to their focus on customer service.
Description of Work: Removed all of our old masonite siding, repaired a few sections of damaged OSB and foam sheathing, installed a Hardie vapor barrier on the whole house, installed flashing where needed on windows/roof, replaced all soffit vent covers, outlined all windows/doors with Hardie trim, installed Hardie ColorPlus siding on whole house, replaced the rotting wood garage door trim with PVC trim and new weather stripping, built and installed custom shutters and gable piece on the front of our house. They also hired a plumber to replace our outdoor water spigots, at our request, and painters to paint our existing wood soffits/fascia to match the new Hardie colors. We also hired one of the Craftsman's Choice contractors to make a minor repair to our roof, independent of the siding project.

Our experience with Craftsman's Choice was less than ideal. Initially we were very impressed with the ability of the company based on Mike's presentation. He said they could hide the telephone and TV wires but later we were told that this could not be done. Since this was one of the reasons we selected this company they attempted to hide the wires but it did not turn out well. A good TV cable was just cut off. The roofers did a good job on both houses. However, ten nails were left on our driveway and the ridge vent had a lapse in it that looked like a smile with a tooth missing. We were told it had to be like that but we suggested a solution ( an extra layer of shingles ) that turned out well. The crew that put the siding on our dormer was excellant but it appears the fascia was not installed properly as the corners do not look right. Mike said they would fix it but they never did. Eventually, we told them we would live with it. A different crew installed the siding on our rental house. They were slow, sloppy and overtly hostile. It seems the hostility resulted after we complained they were infringing on our neighbor's property and also when we complained they quit work at 2 PM when we felt the project was behind schedule. Also, we had pointed out several things that had to be redone such as the wrong crown molding was installed, the inside corner board was too wide and the Sierra paneling was installed wrong. We doubt these mistakes would have been corrected if we had not pointed them out. They broke five screens, which they repaired, and they dented my renter's car. We were told the project would be completed by May 24 but it was not completed until August 19. It seems the project could have been completed faster with more planning. For example, the dentil molding they installed did not match the original as we had requested so it took additional time to get the new molding and redo it. We thought we could discuss our concerns with Matt, one of the owners, but he got quite upset when we tried to address the time issue. He said we complained too much and he had people from last October whose project hadn't been completed yet and they didn't complain. Chris, the project manager, was outstanding and without him our projects would have been much unhappier. Also, the workmen who did the finish work were pleasant and nice to work with. The final project is quite satisfactory. It is unfortunate that it was difficult getting there.
Description of Work: We had our home reroofed and had James Hardie siding put on the dormer. Also, we had our rental property reroofed and had James Hardie siding put on the entire house.

This one hurts a little. We routinely satisfy clients with high standards like this homeowner. This was a case of what could go wrong did go wrong. I will say that both projects look great and the 1938 home looks absolutely outstanding. Our team stuck to it until the end. We would have been done in the allotted time frame but the customer added special order dentil molding that took 6 weeks to get. Even though we explained that it takes 6 weeks to get the dentil molding he still called every 3 days to complain that his job wasn’t completed. With the exception of painting or miscellaneous customer change orders, we almost always complete our projects on time. In June we were still painting winter projects because of the late spring. We did have a difficult time communicating with the customer, it seemed like information exchanged was never really heard or understood, which led to our customer becoming frustrated with us. For example; the renters car being dented, the renter does not know what our customer is referring too as their car is not dented. We have reviewed what we did wrong in this case and as always we will strive to do better. We are the glad they are happy with the final result, Sincerely, Matt Enfield & The CCI Team

Craftsman's Choice came for an estimate on my roof. They quickly identified the problem, noted it was minor, wrote down the tape and sealer for me to purchase and where. I was able to quickly fix the issue myself for $20. I was really appreciative of the help and knowledge. I would certainly use these guys again.

Description of Work: I had had a horrible experience with repairs by another contractor. This company was willing to come in after they had been relieved of the job and do some repairs which allowed by house to hopefully be leak-proof for now around the window cladding that had been replaced poorly by previous contract. Other contractor were not willing to come out for a small job like this, but Matt was gracious and agreed to do so. He was also helpful in suggesting that I have an independent inspection of the previous work prior to trying to find someone to fix it. I am extremely grateful.

I selected Craftsman's Choice because of the reviews on Angies List. They were professional, courteous, and very responsive to a few concerns I had during the process. The one item they were lax on was timing. The project lasted about 2 weeks longer than the expectation set. However, they added additional service for free to compensate. Overall very satisfied and would hire them again. Highly recommended!

I selected Craftsmans Choice based on the feedback from Angie's List. The entire process was wonderful and very well organized. We received a quote, agreed on a price and they started about 2 weeks later. We went through the contract, Ben answered all of my questions (poor guy) and we felt very comfortable doing business with them. Chris was our project manager, and he was great. The tear down team was fast, very neat, professional and just really great guys. The install team were very professional, neat, answered any questions I had during the process and again were just really great guys. We changed our minds on the facia to the Hardy facia instead of aluminun after we saw what it looked like on one side of our house. It looked fine, but we knew we would like the Hardy better. The next day when the team arrived, they had the new facia and started to put it up, no delay in project time at all. The painting team were also wonderful. The finished product is amazing, it looks like a completely new house. I had many neighbors stop and comment on how wonderful it looks. I wish they did interior remodeling as I would love to hire them for that..... Don't spend your time looking at any other company for siding, windows or doors, these are the guys you want to hire!!!!!

They came to talk to us before giving and estimate and provided a lot of detail about what needed to be done and how they would do it. We were given a long list of previous work and were able to view many other jobs. They started on time and finished on time. They were very good about cleanup each day and at the end of the job. The workers were pleasant and courteous and responsive when we had questions or comments. We are very happy with the end result as well as the process and would recommend them to anyone needing this type of work done.

The workers were great, everyone was professional and friendly. They showed up when they said they would, they worked steadily. Even though the work was done in winter and there was lots of snow around, they did as good a job of cleaning up as they could, and came back in the spring to do another once-over. The workmanship is top-notch. The caulking is literally the best caulking job I have ever seen. I am very happy I selected Craftsman's Choice to do this job!
Description of Work: Removed all siding, inspected and repaired sheating. Installed new house wrap, Hardieplank siding, soffit vents, mounting blocks for all exterior fixtures, and trim around garage doors and service door entrance. Removed and reinstalled gutters, painted soffits and facia. Also replaced a few boards on our deck that needed replacing.
Top-quality work. I usually don't give 5-star reviews, but they were top-notch, and I couldn't find a thing to beeoych and moan about. I met with Matt twice, once to go over what needed to be done, and once again to finalize some details and refinements. On the scheduled installation date, his crew showed up on time and fully prepared, were very courteous and knowledgeable, and completed the work in the allotted day-and-a-half. I was very satisfied with all the work completed. As the old saying goes, these guys measure twice, cut once, and get it right the first time. Boo-yah!
Description of Work: What better can you say about a contractor who shows up on time, on budget, and gets the details right, then does a stellar clean-up job afterwards? This guys did some work at my Mom's place in S Mpls, and when I needed some renovations to my duplex in Uptown I called them and worked with Matt Enfield on a project involving installing 3 new windows, bracing them underneath (as it was an exterior bay window jutting out from the side of the house). The bay window had never been properly reinforced and was putting a strain on that side of the building, starting to crack the stucco. They added support beams to the side of the house underneath the 3 new windows installed, and clad them in white aluminum to make the supports more attractive and maintenance-free. They also added new shelving to two interior closets, installed new cabinet doors, new blinds, repaired an existing large exterior window on the foyer of the house, and fixed the track on the sliding door that has been the bane of my existence since I moved here. Top-quality work. I usually don't give 5-star reviews, but they were top-notch, and I couldn't find a thing to beeoych and moan about. I had bids from seven contractors and they offered the best price with the best materials. I wanted a very durable material for the deck and porch, which they were able provide. Overall, they did a good job but were probably busy which is why I gave them a B for responsiveness.
Description of Work: They installed two entry garage doors, one door for my all season porch, and eight new windows on my porch. They also installed a new deck, which included a screened porch, new gutters on my home, new trim around the house, put new hardware on the doors, and also put siding on my out building.

If you are considering James Hardie Siding then Craftsmans Choice is the only contractor in the Twin Cities to go with! Mike Ziegler was extremely knowledgeable of our existing house construction, offered good siding options to consider.Pricing was very competitive, fair and the lowest bid should not be your only consideration,Service and Quality before, during and after the project is priceless and Craftsmans Choice would be the right move!

I called for an estimate that was completed within 2 days. This was a small job and Craftsman's Choice was willing to do it. All siding company's would not do it. The work was done in a timely, effective and efficient manner. It looks wonderful. Keith and Ryan cleaned up and thanked me for the business. I would definately use them again!
Description of Work: The trim around the garage door was replaced.

We made an appointment for an estimate and were able to meet with Craftsman Choice personnel the same week we requested the appointment. We were given a thorough explanation of all options available to us for siding and windows. An estimate was provided within a week and all of our questions were answered promptly and professionally. After selecting this company to do the work, a project manager (Chris) was assigned. Chris met with us to walk through all of the work to be done and the time line for completion. We were extremely pleased with Chris and the entire crew. The windows were replaced first and then the siding was installed. There were a couple of minor issues with the siding (some cuts were a bit rough) but all issues were addressed immediately. The only other minor concern was the quality of the clean up - we found several nails in the yard and have small children. We discussed with Chris and he sent a crew around to do another sweep of the yard. In the end we were very pleased with the quality of work.
Description of Work: Replaced existing steel siding with Hardie Board; replaced 15 windows in the home and replaced existing windows with sliding glass door; built shutters and window boxes for the front of the house.

As a female homeowner it is not always easy to find contractors that are respectful and that take a woman's verbal input seriously. Dan was the project manager from start to finish. He was always respectful and responsive to my requests. The white flat roof membrane is energy efficient and it looks 100% better than the black rolled roofing that was originally there. There were a few incidents of miscommunication regarding details during the remodel of the front of the house, but Dan immediately took care of it. The workers were efficient and cleaned up the work site each day. I am happy with all three aspects of the project. My neighbors have complimented the new look of my house. The front of my house now has curb appeal!
Description of Work: They installed insulation and a white membrane on a flat roof on a dormer. They also replaced an asphalt roof on the front of the house. They completed an overbuilt remodel on the front of the house to fix an poorly sloped area on the roof that caused interior water damage. They installed siding and gutters on the remodel area.

First off I have to start by saying my past experiences with siding/roofing companies has not been good. Must companies just drive into town, do the work fast and leave. You can't even find them to do follow up work. With this hail storm I took my time and after digging into a few companies I found that Craftman Choice has a solid record with pages and pages of references that they provided to me. From the start Ben was great to work with him. He came out and looked my house over really good and give me straight forward answers to many of my questions. I could tell he wasn't just telling me what I wanted to hear and was very honest with me. He looked my roof over very good and was honest with me that he couldn't find any damage that would require a new roof. After getting his estimate and several discussions on the approach of the work I took a while to make up my mind on what I wanted to do. Ben was great as he gave me the time I needed to make the right decision. I ended up hiring him for both the siding work on my house and some deck staining/refinishing. We got the work all scheduled out and Ben was great to let me know ahead of time when everything was going to start and when materials were going to be dropped off. On the day the work was to start Ben was nice enough to show up early and introduce me to Chris (Project manager overseeing the work) and we discussed the work and went over any questions anyone may have had before anything got going. They went over everything with me and make sure we were all on the same page. Their crew took there time and did a really great quality job. Every day they would clean up really good which was helpful as I have kids that wanted to get out and play after they left. When they were done with the job the house looks great! I couldn't believe how much better my house looked and how much it helped the value of my home. All my neighbors keep saying how nice the new siding looks and how impressed they were with the work. My father in law who use to work in the siding installation business also said they did a really nice job on the work. Also the staining work they did was also great and my decks looks 100x better then before. Amazing! We did have one small issue come up with the siding and Ben was great about it. He worked with me to get something scheduled and someone from their team came out on time and fixed the issue right away. I honestly couldn't be happy with Craftman Choice. I wish all companies would be like this company and how they treat you. So if your looking for a solid company who will do quality work don't be afraid to contact Craftman Choice! A+ all the way and I'll be using them again the next time I get hail damage on my home!!!
Description of Work: We had hail damage on our home and our deck needed to be refinished.
