We received three quotes. We chose Craftsman's Choice because they had a good bid and they seemed to know what they were doing. They were professional and friendly. They had creative ideas about how to achieve the look we wanted. Work started at about the date that they had projected. They sent a project manager to see how things were going. Their workmen did outstanding work. They were neat and courteous. We would recommend this company and would use their services again when we need this type of work again.

Company was very professional and good to work with. Provided information and was able to answer my questions. Work teams were great - did their jobs very professionally and had good communication, good cleanup of area at the end of each day. They were flexible enough to work around some of my scheduling issues. Overall product was great - fine update to the front of my house - new siding, new stonework, and new windows. Looks great inside and out!

We initially met with Mike Ziegler (sales). He described in detail the entire process and showed us many examples of their work and gave references. We were very happy with his professionalism -- using no hard sales tactics and seemed genuinely interested in getting the exact look we wanted. He helped with the design and answered all of our questions fully. After signing a contract, we met with Chris Overson (project manager). He reviewed the plan and outlined the construction phase. The crew were all hard-working professionals. They put in full days and left the jobsite in great condition for the next days' work. We are so glad we chose Craftsman's Choice and would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: We had Craftsman's Choice remodel the front of our home. They removed existing stucco and brick and installed James Hardie Cedarmill lap siding and shingles along with Boulder Creek stone.

The work was done by a succession of separate work crews. The roofers arrived first and accomplished their tasks. In the process, they discovered some decking was deteriorated, so the project manager immediately obtained new decking material so they could finish their task. The siding crew arrived after the roofers finished, to remove the siding and sheathing. Before they left for the weekend, they wrapped the house in plastic for protection from the elements. On Monday, the insulation team showed up and sprayed the foam insulation. Even though it was early October in Minnesota, the weather cooperated and it was warm and dry that day, so the insulation went well. There was a little bit of overspray of insulation on a couple of items, but they were able to correct that problem. The roofing crew removed the gutter helmets and left them stacked in the yard. I assumed they did that because the siding crew would have to remove the gutters to work on fascia, etc. However, the siding crew never removed the gutters and didn't feel they had the expertise to re-install the gutter helmets. A call to the project manager resulted in a service crew that came out and re-installed the gutter helmets. It seems like it would have been easier to install them as part of the re-shingling exercise, but in any event, they were re-installed.
Description of Work: They removed the old shingles and installed new ones, as well as putting in a continuous ridge vent system. They also removed the old siding, sheathing and insulation, sprayed new foam insulation and then installed new sheathing and siding. As of 10/23/2012, they are still waiting for appropriate weather to complete the painting of some trim.

The process went extremely well. I'm typically not the type that hires out home repairs because I'm never satisfied with the outcome that contractors usually do, but this job was too big for me to handle. Craftsman's Choice helped us understand our product options and was very patient and helpful as we worked through all of the choices and design decisions. The installation started on schedule and the crew was very professional and highly skilled. During the remodel, our biggest fears about water intrusion underneath our windows and behind our siding was confirmed. The window and siding crews worked very well together to make the necessary repairs. We now feel that we have an excellent exterior that will not only stand up to the elements, but also looks fantastic. Our new windows give the interior a whole new feeling. It's amazing how much quieter it is in our house, and we can already tell that the windows have made a dramatic insulation improvement as well. Following the installation, they were very conscientious about making sure that we were completely satisfied with even the smallest touch ups. I give them a very positive review and would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Replacement of our vinyl siding with James Hardie siding, special order fluted corners, full replacement of 17 windows, aluminum soffit and facia. Several of our old windows had hail damage, and we suspected that the old vinyl siding was not installed properly. We requested a quote from Craftsman's Choice since they are a preferred installer of Hardie siding and Marvin windows, the two products that we wanted for replacements.

After purchasing the special $49 offer from Angie's List I called Craftman's Choice for an appointment in accordance with the offer. The representative arrived as scheduled and we discussed my project. As I had a unique situation/challenge with an existing egress window, the representative suggested that his lead carpenter visit to assess what should/could be done. About two weeks after discussing options with the lead carpenter, the company made another appointment with me to deliver the agreed upon plans and discuss the costs and options for the project. This company was extremely helpful and professional. They contacted my local building inspector to discuss my unique construction challenge and devised a great solution. The design prepared for me was worth much more than the $49 I paid Angie's List. I am very happy with the service and professionalism of this company. I highly recommend them.

There is still one board on the deck they said they were going to replace, but I feel confident that will get done. Everyone on their crews were professional, courteous and friendly. If there were questions about something the lead crew member always got an answer and a solution. The project manager on the job made many stops on site and also took care of things like finding and replacing two missing bricks on the brick facade on the front of the house. It really made a difference in the overall looks around the door. They picked up after themselves every night before they left the job and did an even more thorough clean up at the end of the job. They were overall very good to work with and we are extremely glad we picked their company to do the job. Thanks to Mike, Andy and Lorenzo for making this a not so bad ordeal.
Description of Work: Complete rip off of old siding and trim (soffits, fascia and window trim). Put up moisture barrier and resided with James Hardie Siding and trim. Also did the shed to match. Made new doors for the shed out of siding. Filled all the trim and corner boards and painted the siding with specialty color paint.

Ben Junker, one of the company owners, met with us to discuss our project. We walked around the house, & he pointed out specific areas that could be of concern (e.g., for drainage from the upper roof to the lower, for a moisture barrier where the siding & the ground were less than 6 inches apart, & so on), made very helpful suggestions to us, & explained the details of how the project would proceed, if we chose to hire his company. he had worked 'in the field' as an installer & remodeler before he & his partner started their company, so had first hand knowledge & experience. he returned about a week later with a detailed plan that included specific breakdown on the costs, answered all our questions, & did NOT pressure us to sign a contract. we had several other bids, lower & higher, & decided to hire Craftsmans Choice for our project. the dumpster & materials arrived at the beginning of the week, then we had the only two days of rain in all of August!! the crew arrived after the rain stopped. Brandon, Elmore, & Joe had the old siding off in just over a day, & took time to walk us around the house before applying the house wrap, to show us that the insulation board & structure were in good shape, that they would not need to do any repairs (we have worked with contractors who were less honest!). all three of our site crew were personable, professional, & very detail oriented, all of which we greatly appreciated. they always took time to answer our questions, & to tell us about their progress. they found some siding that was damaged from the factory, & had it replaced so our house would look perfect. their daily clean up was thorough, they were not loud nor crude, & their work was meticulously completed. our project manager, Andy, was on-site regularly, made frequent telephone contact, & always readily accessible by telephone. he too was very personable, professional, & responsive to our questions & concerns. our painter, Monte, did a beautiful job of matching the color for soffit, foundation, garage door, & several other small areas to the prefinished siding. when the job was completed, Ben returned for the final walk-around, to assure that we were satisfied & also to assure that he was satisfied with the job done by his employees. we think that says a lot about a company. we were very satisfied by our project experience working with Craftsmans Choice, & totally pleased with the look of our home. we would gladly work with Craftsmans Choice again for the quality of their people & their work, & would certainly recommend them to anyone considering such a project.
Description of Work: We has masonite siding, soffits, & facia removed, & replaced with James Hardie fiber cement product. We had the foundation painted to match the siding color. We had researched vaious siding products, & liked the Hardie board. Hardie has a very informative website, even posting the very specific best practice methods for installation. One company had a lower estimate, however, the salesperson was NOT knowledgeable about the installation. If not installed correctly, Hardie will not support the warranty. Craftsmans Choice was listed on the Hardie website as a preferred installer.

We started by meeting with Mike and developing an overall estimate of what we wanted done and possible solutions. Once we agreed to the scope of work, what materials were to be utilized, and product colors, a formal bid/proposal was compiled and presented to us. After some modifications we agreed to the bid and the project started. The first step was that the Project Manager, Chris, came and introduced himself and presented a time line of activities to be expected. Once the project crew arrived, we were introduced to all of them and felt more comfortable with what they were doing and that they were all skilled in their trade. By knowing the crew, we found it very easy to ask questions as to what they were doing and the crew members would respond with informative details. Really appreciated! Once project was completed there was a very complete clean-up. Would work with these people again.
Description of Work: Craftsman's Choice removed stone from the front of our house then installed Harding siding and a number of replacement windows. Once siding was completed they performed some painting and installed new rain gutters and downspouts.

Craftman's Choice Inc. offered a special to come out and design a plan to improve the exterior appeal of one's house. The woman who was scheduled to come to our home did not. About an hour and a half after the appointment time we were called, by someone else, who said he was behind schedule and would still come if we wanted. We agreed. He spoke with my husband and myself for about 15 - 20 minutes total. His focus to redesign our home was to replace the 12" wide cedar planks with horizontal siding, which we had no interest in doing. We discussed several options of changes that we would like to see and were open to more. He'd brought a large book along to show us exteriors by Craftman's Choice as a way to spark interest, but said he'd run out of time and had to leave for his next appointment - never showing me the book. A week or two later we received an estimate for $12,850.00, for painting the house, building a new cedar railing with lighting, building and installing a Cedar Pergola mounted above the garage door, etc. The only attachment to that were photos of our house Photoshoped with sample color paint choices for the exterior and nothing else. I emailed the company and called saying that I needed to see drawings of the pergola and railing designs suggested. I never received a response for my request from the company. I paid $50.00 for an estimate which anyone else would provide for free. I consider myself lucky not to have hired them to do a project!

We apologize for your experience with our company and the Angie’s list “big deal”. Just so you know the $50 dollar fee went directly to Angie’s list, not to our company. What happened here is that Angie’s list ran the Big deal promotion and we literally had dozens of people sign up at the same time and we were overwhelmed. We did spend several hours with the computer renderings offering the color choices discussed. Our estimates are free and if anyone would like plans drawn up we are always happy to do so. We only ask that you provide us with a general concept, picture or a web link to give us some idea of where to start so we can draw up the plans for you. Thank you for your honest report, Sincerely the CCI team.

Craftsman’s Choice was one of four companies I contacted to do a “makeover” of my 1950s home. Ben Juncker came out to meet with me and we had a very nice visit during which he took notes about what I was looking for and we discussed options for siding i.e. lap vs. shakes or some combo thereof, types of trim for the windows and really all the details that go into the job. I was impressed with Ben. First he was on time (not all were) and very professional in manner. He had installed siding himself and was not afraid to get on the roof and analyze the home. He made good suggestions and I could tell he would work with me to make it look as I envisioned. He was not in a rush (some were) and answered my questions. He was then very prompt in making a follow up appointment with a detailed proposal… that he explained in person (most did not). CC was not the lowest price but not the highest either..mid range and included such things as premium house wrap, high quality Duration paint etc. After visiting with a number of companies I felt confident that CC would provide not only quality work but also had the customer service to match that work. As it turns out I was right. We finalized the proposal…I paid a deposit and we scheduled the work to begin in mid Sept. What follows is a brief summary of our project and how it went. I think it important to note that I am a very detail oriented and involved homeowner who likes to micromanage any projects to my home. This can be a nightmare for a contractor but all things considered CC was very respectful to me, answered my endless questions, made changes as necessary and worked very hard to make sure the finished product was perfect. The project took much longer than I expected. During my project Ben had a family emergency and Matt took over as manager. The crew worked hard under the direction of Ben and Matt. For the most part I was kept informed about progress etc. CC goes the extra mile for their customers and I also got the impression that they have an excellent working relationship with the crews they hire to do the actual day-to-day work. While the crews are subcontracted, CC uses the same workers year after year and oversees every aspect of the project. I believe the quality of the work to be very good and our home looks entirely different and so improved. The project took about a month and we decided to wait to paint until this spring and I did use my own painter so cannot comment on paintwork as done by CC. Ryan at CC made some flower boxes which really add some nice curb appeal and I worked with Ben on finding just the right Craftsmen Columns for our entry…small details but Ben was great at working with me on this…going to look at columns and doors etc. Again the customer service was always there. I can highly recommend CC for any renovations to your home. It is very difficult today to find honesty, quality of workmanship and customer service in one company but CC delivers on all fronts with a smile. I’m sure I drove them crazy but they were always enjoyable to work with and made me feel like my job was really important to them. All their staff were so helpful and Kim in the office did a number of computer simulations of my home with various pairings of lap siding and shingles, which was helpful in deciding what would look good on my home. She can also put your paint colors on. It is nice that they have a dedicated person in the office to field questions rather than a machine. Again personalized service. I knew zero about siding other than I had many knowledgeable people recommended the Hardie siding including my real estate agent as it adds so much value to a home. CC was the perfect choice. I am also confident that should any issues arise in the future with the siding, gutters etc. CC will stand behind the product and the work…. this is very important in today’s world of businesses coming and going and not being there when something goes wrong. CC works very closely with James Hardie Inc to make sure they are using the current and best practices when they do the installation. Our inspector in Edina was impressed with their work. Craftsmanship and Customer Service is what you get from this company.
Description of Work: Craftsman's Choice removed 1950s cedar shakes from home. They installed Hardie Board lap siding, shake siding, replaced soffit and fascia, installed trim boards, gutters, one large window, doors and other detail work. Basically it was a total makeover.

The whole experience with this company was great from start to finish. The office staff (Kim ?) was very responsive by phone and e-mail, and Matt, who came out for the estimate and business end of things, listened to our plans and asked all the right questions to make sure we were all on the same page. But what really matters in the end are the guys who show up and do the work. And we couldn't be more impressed with Wayne and John. These fellas showed up each day on time and got right down to business. Under pretty oppressive weather conditions - hot and humid!, these guys worked HARD throughout the day. They were friendly and personable, and checked with us over every detail to make sure we'd be happy with the result. As I said above, this is a custom design and I was very particular about how I wanted things and why I wanted them that way. But the sign of a craftsman is to know when to deviate from the plan and Wayne was excellent at looking at our design and making necessary changes. He explained what he was changing and why, and in the end we got just what we wanted (which isn't always what we asked for!). Wayne even took some of the materials home with him so he could add little details (on his own time!)Thanks to Wayne and John our deck is more than we even dreamed of, and the workmanship is fantastic! Everyone we dealt with at Craftsman's Choice represented the company very well, and we strongly recommend them as a preferred contractor.

I had the company out twice because I had a shingle come off the roof and a man came out who was very pleasant and punctual and replaced the shingle. A few days later I found another shingle in the yard and mistakenly thought it was that same shingle. I phoned Craftsmans Choice and even though it was such a small job they came out again and checked it out. It was not the same shingle. Ben (the man who came out) was very pleasant and punctual and the amount I was charged was incredibly reasonable

All in all the quote process was very negative with this company. We didn't end up having them do our work, but were very taken aback by the way the estimate was handled. We had them come out an estimate rebuilding our small (8' by 14') deck. We did this as a result of an Angie's List deal. $50 dollars to get a quote! He came out on time, in fact even a little bit early, looked over the situation and said we'd get our quote within a few days via email. I provided him with both my and my husband's email addresses. A few days later the estimate arrives, it only goes to my husband, and has my name misspelled on it. We were shocked to discover that to redo our small with cedar was going to cost us over $7,000, and more than $10,000 for a composite material. This was especially surprising given that at the time of the estimate, he informed me that this was a small, easy job. Subsequently we have gotten estimates from other highly rated companies here on Angie's List and for similar work would only be paying $2,300 for a cedar deck and $3,200 for a composite material. In addition, none of the other companies we've had have charged us just to do the estimate. In summary: Pros: Prompt, delivered documents when promised. Cons: Charges just for a quote, extremely expensive, somewhat careless in spelling.

Total exterior restoration and insulation of a Minneapolis, turn-of-the-century house We interviewed a lot of companies and both our head and gut told us that Craftsman were the best able to take on such a big job. We received excellent counsel from them on our approach. The crew was top notch and they very clearly cared about restoring the detail to our house. They worked incredibly hard and kept bringing creative ideas to the project. Plenty of times they took the extra time to do it right and demonstrated a lot of pride in their work. The house looks magnificent. We talked to a lot of vendors and we are very glad to have chosen Craftsman. What really surprised us, was when other Craftsman customers came by the house to say hello to the crews and share their story about their job. Many other trades people were impressed with their work.

Our first meeting was to discuss what we wanted done. The bid was done in a timely manner and completely spelled-out everything that was to be done. All measurements for the windows were checked and double checked for accuracy. All material was ordered and the estimated delivery dates confirmed. We were kept informed as things progressed especially the windows and doors since there were so many and most were custom sizes.Everything was delivered on time and work started as scheduled. At the end of everyday all work areas were cleaned. The communications and followup during the whole project could not have been better. The window team, siding team, and deck team could not have worked together better to make everything progress smoothly This was a major project because of the size of our house and the number of windows. Everyone at Craftsman Choice could not have been more professional and knowledgeable. A project this size all has a few surprises but all were presented with a good solution and fully presented to us for our approval. There was numerous walk throughs as the project progressed to make sure things were being done to our approval. When the deck was being attached to the screen porch, a new screen door was to be put in. The project manager did not like the doors available so he designed and made the door for us in his wood shop. This is the type service that Craftsman's Choice provided. Thank you Craftsman's Choice for a job well done.

I found them on Angie’s List. They were rated very highly on Angie’s List. They did a good job of planning and doing the work. I was really satisfied with them. I had an idea of what I wanted and they really helped me plan. I had six other contractors bid for the job. This company was the only one that did all the work that I needed. They were also the cheapest and they had the best materials. I accidentally damaged the siding. They came out and fixed it for me free of charge. I was not around when the guy came out and fixed it. He had colored nails to fix it.
Description of Work: I used Craftsman’s Choice Inc. for siding work. They also built a deck; they installed some windows; and they built a new front entry. They did a lot of work for me.

Total project was done in approx 2 days..Matt Enfields employees were excellent in performance of quality of work, carefulness of not damaging any interior areas of where windows were removed as well as cleanup and removal of old windows, etc.... Company kept me updated on progress of making windows and met their deadline..Definitely rehire Craftman's Choice Inc again.
Description of Work: Removed 4 old windows and replaced with Anderson Windows that met my budget..There was slight delay due to windows having to be custom made as well as other customers with speciality orders from Anderson. Replaced some rotten cedar trim strips and put up oak molding trim inside of windows as well as deck door. Completion date was approx 09/13/2011

Craftsman's Choice was by far the most professional, honest and friendly company throughout the entire process. Our experience began with an initial "pre-bid" meeting with owner, Ben Juncker. Ben was the third of four companies we requested bids. From the very beginning, we could tell that Crafsman's Choice was a company we could trust. Ben pointed out areas of potential concern, eliminated some unnecessary work that other companies were pushing and talked me though the entire process in layman's terms. Ben scheduled a follow up meeting to present his proposal. The proposal was thorough and competetive. There was a wide range of bids and although Craftsman's Choice was not the lowest bidder, we choose them because we believed that we would get the best value - quality work for a fair price. The job started on time and was completed on time. The crew was professional and left a clean job site every day. Upon completion, we had our first walk through with the project manager, a small punch list of follow up items was discussed and competed within the next day. A final inspection with Ben took place to make sure we were 100% satisfied. Overall, the was the best experience we've ever had relative to any construction project we've been involved with. The quality of work was exceptional and the professionalism of Ben and his staff incredible. We would recommend Craftsman's Choice without hesitation.
