The technician came out and test the AC refrigerant pressure and said it was fine so that wasn't causing the problem. Proceeded into the house and found a broken damper which he removed. He claimed the damper was the sole problem with the system and it would not be covered by my home warranty to fix it. I declined having it fixed by them and had a reputable contractor come out and fix the damper. I also had the reputable contractor check the refrigerant pressure and he informed me that it was a pound low which is what was causing the trouble cooling during the extreme heat. He also cleaned the units cooling fins which is what he said was causing the false reading in pressure because one side was normal and the other side was low. I don't remember exactly the reason behind it. Long story short the reputable contractor came out and fixed what my home warranty should have covered. Paid 75 dollars to the idiot that did nothing but curse and tell me nothing was wrong. Then paid someone else $205 to fix what he couldn't find.
Description of Work: Removed a broken damper in our ducting and check the refrigerant pressure.

They came to my home, when I called my warranty company AHS to report a flooded basement because of sump pump failure. Mike came in and replaced it with a new one and also re-piped a broken Kitchen drain line. I appreciate both Mike and AHS.

Mike was unhelpful and uninformative. We asked questions and he seemed annoyed and unresponsive. He was in and out in minutes. He did however return with charged gas meter to inform me that there was no leak. I do question if it was charged, but appreciated the return visit.
Description of Work: AHS called K & K for our plumbing needs and gas smell. Mike checked our plumbing (or mostly looked out window) and informed me that he did not smell gas.

We had to use K & K because we also have the warranty plan through AHS. After making the initial call into the warranty service, we had to call K & K directly. They told us they'd be out between 10 and noon. They showed up after 4:00. The first guy who came out didn't kept insisting that it had to be a filter issue (even though we had just replaced the filter). He got the air to run for about two hours before it went out again. We called K & K back the next day. Due to the 4th of July holiday weekend, we asked them to schedule us for an appointment during the following Monday morning. When Monday morning rolled around, we called K & K who told us that they could not make it over to our house on Monday. On Tuesday morning, K & K sent a new guy over to our house. He actually diagnosed the problem (broken valves and low refrigerant). Frankly, he was great. Because our AC is older, they had to special order the valves and could not guarantee when they would come in. On Thursday, the second guy from K & K called and told us that he had received the valves. He replaced the valves and some refrigerant (hence the higher cost) in about 3 hours. Our experience with K & K was very mixed. The first repair guy was worthless but the second one was fantastic. However, with regard to punctuality and responsiveness, the service was poor.

At first, Eldon was very responsive, calling right away after I was assigned to him. We made an appointment for the following day at 3:00. at 1:30, he called me at work to tell me he'd be there at 2:00 instead, causing me to have to leave early. When he came to my house, he spent the first few minutes on his cell phone with someone else. he joked an apology to me afterwards, and I explained the issues I was having with my AC unit. first thing he did was check the filter, then lecture me on needing to change it regularly. (I had just moved into the house, which I explained...) He went outside and I followed him around the side of the house and asked him a couple of questions, and then received a lecture as to how complex AC units were, and that he needed more time to evaluate. I gave up and went inside. He came in and out several times, and finally had a verdict - I had a leaky valve and two leaky hoses. I was then lectured that I should not be moving my air condenser, because that's what caused the leaks in the hoses. I reminded him that I had just bought the house, and that I could not move my air condenser if I tried. He said he would call the warranty company for the ok to do the work, and that he'd call me back later that day to schedule repair. I paid him the warranty deductible fee in cash, and he had no way to give me a receipt, so he wrote on the back of a business card. I stated that if he could repair the AC fairly soon, it would help, as my mother lives with me and she needed the air conditioning when it's hot. I didn't hear back from Eldon until 10:00 the following Monday by e-mail. Both my mother and I were at work, and he wanted to come over in 2 hours for a 4 hour job. I stated that neither of us could get off work on that short of notice, and then I was chastised for saying I needes service soon due to my mother. I asked for additional appointment windows, and he replied Tuesday and said he would call me that afternoon when he returned from a repair out of town. I didn't hear from him for two days, (and after a voicemail and e-mail) and my realtor contacted the warranty company, who contacted him. He told the warranty company that I wasn't returning his calls promptly, when he had not called at all. he finally e-mailed me the next afternoon (Friday), offering to come out Monday to finish the work, which fortunately was in time for my mother to request the afternoon off. Fortunately for us, Eldon sent Greg to finish the work. He was kind to my mother, professional, and finished the work in far less time than the 4 hours that Eldon said he needed. My review above is a score for Eldon and his company, not a reflection on the one repair guy (Greg) who got it right.

I was referred to this company by a homeowners insurance plan for my new house. For that reason, I only had to pay a $60 deductible. The amount charged by the company was much greater. On a very cold January, my supplemental wall unit forced air furnace failed. This heats a "breezeway" space that houses a sink, washer and dryer. The failure quickly led to the pipes freezing. I talked to the company about 11:00 AM and was told I would be the next visit that afternoon. At 5:10 I called the company asking if they would come. I was told I'd be called back with an update within 2 minutes. About fifteen minutes later I was called and told the man went home (without calling me) would not come that day, but would arrive at noon the next day. About 5:30, my pipes burst. I called a plumber and paid over $200 for that repair. The next day the repairman arrived approximately on time. I had to repeat the problem several times before he understood. I feel like he didn't even listen to me. It took him awhile to fix the problem and he explained some of what he was doing. In the end, the furnace was repaired. But then he spent another 20-30 minutes cleaning up, preparing the invoice, and talking to his boss on the phone. His boss evidently was yelling at him for not contacting the next customer. He called the customer from my house (not picking up his tools) and lied to him that he was en route. He then dithered around for a while before finally packing up and giving me the invoice. This is a non-responsive, untrustworthy company. It's hard to say if the pipes would have still bursted had they repaired the furnace when promised, but it didn't help that they came nearly 24 hours later and after having me wait for hours without a word.
Description of Work: A supplemental wall unit forced air furnace would not maintain a pilot light. Multiple problems with the unit were responsible.

During one of the visits (Friday afternoon), the guy said he 'jerry-rigged' the furnace to run over the weekend but we had an extension cord running out of the furnace across the room and he said it should work. Well we woke up that night at midnight to smoke flowing through the house. We had to call the fire department and they were surprised that someone would do something like that to let the furnace run. I called K&K Monday morning and they asked what we did to make it smoke like that! I said their employee did that and demanded that it get fixed! After another few visits, they fixed it....we had to replace the whole thing a year later! I would not recommend K&K for anything!
Description of Work: Tried to fix a furnace that didn't run very good. We had the AHS service so they dispatched K&K to come. I didn't hear anything from them so I called to set up an appointment. The problem took several visits by 2 different people.

I was rather surprised to see a couple of negative ratings from the other folks on Angie's who had used K & K, but my experience with K & K was a very positive and I would absolutely hire K & K (Eldon) to service my AC and heating again. I called Eldon today and told him how smooth the A/C has been working since his tune-up and he was pleased, but not as much as me. He also commented today, which he didn't tell me on July 5th, that my installer of the new Carrier furnace and zoning system company that I purchased less than two years ago, FORGOT to include a freeze sensor coil, and said it was probably an oversight and thought this could also have been a contributing factor to my recent cooling problems. What I really took away from our engagement was that it is critical to spray each fin on the AC on a very regular basis during the cooling system. The best $60 I have spent in a long time! Thanks Eldon for a great job and you certainly deserve the praise on this job! Keep on exceeding your customer's expectations and you'll be one the busiest heating and cooling contractors in the Twin Cities area!
Description of Work: I have a service contract with American Home Service (AHS) and I contacted them about my AC that was no putting out any cool air, on probably one of the hottest days of the year. Anyway, they dipatched K & K Heating and Cooling and the owner/operator, Eldon showed up and checked out the unit. He stated the major problem was the A/C fins were extremely dirty and he proceeded to clean each "fin" on the A/C from right to left and added some freon. The dirt just melted away with a simple washing and this is something in hindsight, I could have done myself, but I was not aware of it. He encouraged me to wash the unit on a weekly basis during the cooling season and I have lived in the house for three years and never new how important it was to "wash" these vents on the A/C. After a few adjustments my large house with three zones was cool within a few hours. It was of course, Murphy's Law to have the A/C stop working on the hottest day of the year, but such is life. It appears like K & K is a one-man operation, which is fine with me, IF he knows what he is doing and can perform the job on a timely and reasonable basis and at a fair price. He exceeded my expectations and I was more than satisfied.

Still going and going and going. Update 6/20/12. I recived a call from them, they have some of the parts and are actually on site to install. Update 7/12/12. We finally have a working water heater after several calls to AHS. Note our initial reporting of the issue was on the 22nd of May. No change in grade, but i am thankful they finshed the job.
Description of Work: What can I say other than these guys are a joke! We too (see review from 2009) were introduced to K&K via our home warranty company (which actually has been surprisingly good to work with). We’re now into week four with K&K and I don’t even bother to call Elton the owner anymore. He is friendly, but falls back on the same line each time we’ve spoke “parts are being ordered, justa few more days, bla, bla, bla.” Seriously!?! We’re replacing a garbage disposal and fixing a water heater. I get a bit of a delay for the water heater, but not weeks and as for the garbage disposal their “mechanic” called me last week – another story that I’ll briefly tell – stating that he was en route to Home Depot to pick up a new one….. Hum, must be Home Depot in Mesa, AZ and not the one down the road in Shakopee, MN. As for said garbage disposal, the one in the house that’s not working is a high end model made by InSinkerator. The model has been discontinued so I’m fine with a replacement of a similar caliber. Nope – Mike the mechanic wanted to install a Badger 5 – which is one of InSinkerator’s economy lines. I shot that idea down where it stood. It’s like the insurance company saying “I know you drive a BMW, but we’d like to replace it with a Ford – are you okay with that? Both have four wheels and an engine.” No offense to Ford owners by the way. He actually seemed taken aback that I wasn’t okay with that idea. So, here we sit, four weeks into the repair process with one working water heater (good thing the house has two) and one sink that remains out of commission. During this whole process we’ve had the fridge and dishwasher repaired under the same warranty, by another company, within days of calling. The good about K&K: they called right away to set up the appointment. The bad about K&K: Nothing is done beyond setting the appointment. I really feel like these guys are from Mayberry and would rather hang out at Floyd’s Barbershop than finish up this job. If you too have a home warranty with American Home Shield (AHS), and they have K&K call, do not let them have the business. Call AHS and require another company to handle your plumbing needs. Unless you like cold showers that is.

Shortly after buying an older (1925) home, we discovered a leaking radiator in an upstairs bedroom. We called our home warranty company, who sent K & K over to take a look at it. Their first attempt was to patch the leak with an epoxy. This was futile since the radiator was corroded and was obviously going to need replacement. After the failed attempt to patch it, the plumber scratched his head and then left with no communication about what they were going to do. We had paid the service fee of $60.00 (set by the home warranty company) and received nothing in return. In the meantime, we had another company take out the radiator and cap the pipes since the water was beginning to seep down into the dining room below. After another week of additional communication with our home warranty company and a lot of back and forth with K & K, it was determined the radiator would need to be replaced (duh). We were told that a new radiator had been ordered, and they would be coming to install it in the next several days. Two weeks passed. Then yesterday, we got a call saying the radiator had arrived and they would be showing up to install it between 10-11am. At 11:15am someone showed up, but with no radiator. I would provide his name, but he didn?t introduce himself at the front door. He spent 45 minutes measuring the old radiator, before telling us that radiators such as these were no longer made, and that they?d have to find a salvaged one to replace it. He left and stated he did not know when he?d be back. Later that day we got a voicemail from him stating that he couldn?t find a radiator that fit. That was it. So, not only did K & K not fix our problem, but they led us on a one month fiasco where they were rude, failed to communicate, and deliberately mislead us.

We recently moved into a new house and had some minor issues with leaking water. We contacted our home warranty service who sent K&K Heating to handle the problem. K&K called us quickly to set up an appointment and came out within one business day. They arrived on time, were extremely professional and polite and finished the job in short order.
Description of Work: We had a small leak coming from our downstairs bathroom toilet which K&K Heating fixed immediately. There has not been any problem since they repaired the pipe.
