I worked with Rob to go over the plan, the proposed wiring and diagrams. He took the time to understand what the end goal of the entire remodel was, not just electrical components. I think this helped him to come up with some suggestions and recommendations that I had not considered. During the project, we ran into some tight spaces which required a few last minute changes, which Rob and his team were able to overcome without significant delay or outrageous overages in budget. The installers were very knowledgeable of the project as well. They took the time to confirm to the specifications, and offered a few suggestions and recommendations of their own. In the end, we chose to implement some of the recommendations which did cost a little more than we were expecting, however Rob and his team were very reasonable with the final overage charges and worked within our budget to make it happen. I would highly recommend Rob and his team for your next wiring project.
Description of Work: This is the second time that we've used ESS for our electrical needs. We hired ESS to wire our basement as part of a remodel / basement finish project. We also had them complete a few miscellaneous projects around the house at the same time (broken switches, adding floor outlets etc). The overall basement project was quite extensive, and we had some very specific requirements and needs (20amp game circuits, custom tape accent lighting, dimmers, custom lighting, etc).

They were able to fit me in very quickly and finished the job very quickly. However, I was shocked when I received the bill for twice the amount of time that they were at my house. Even though the bill explicitly said "time on site," I was told that the time billed included travel time and time to buy parts to replace the items used from their van. Bottom line: Questionable billing practices can't outweigh timely service. Would not recommend.

Sorry to hear that you're dissatisfied with your partial bill from a project that started in 2011. We did contact you 8 months later to complete the receptacle trim out but you had still done nothing for sheet rock and painting. After billing you out in 2012 for the rough in work completed in 2011 (due to not knowing when you were going to finish this project) and after multiple attempts of collecting and not receiving any payment until the end of 2014, our company has decided not to work with you for the rest of your project that you now want to continue in 2015. The amount of non payments from 2012 to 2014 would have normally incurred multiple interest charges. We never charged you any fees and we were happy to be paid in full. Thank you very much for the work and payment.

I had an overall good experience with this company. The electrician came promptly, asked the right kind of questions and was able to adjust our quote for last-minute changes for the scope of the work. He worked extremely hard and wasn't bothered by me sticking my head in and asking stupid questions. He worked all day and got all of our needs completed the same day. My only minor complaint is that he damaged a small part our wall when fishing some wires through a switch box and left me to deal with it. I understand things happen and sometimes damage occurs. However, when I asked about it, he just said that the company isn't responsible for fixing it. I know he's not a plaster guy, but still, even a couple bucks off for the trouble would've been nice. All-in-all it was a positive experience, and I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again. Thanks Rob.

Highly recommend this company. Cameron did the work on our house; he was very pleasant and efficient and also clearly very knowledgeable. Their work is excellent and their prices are very reasonable. We got our wires crossed about our original appointment time so Rob ended up stopping by the house to apologize in person and then proceeded to knock a chunk off of our cost to compensate. This a great company run by good people for whom customer service is the priority.

There was only a slight scheduling mix up in the beginning and after that things went exceptionally well. I met with Rob on Monday and he provided a quote on site. He was able to get the work scheduled for Wednesday and the electrician that came out was professional and knew what he was doing. The work was completed on time even though I added some things not included in our original quote. He kept me informed by phone as things came up or he needed clarification. I got home at the end of the day and the work was done exactly as requested and he even went a step beyond and swept a winters worth of salt and sand from our garage! Nicely done Brian and Rob!

We called Rob on a frigid, snowy day because we lost power to our horse watering tank (heater). He came right out in his personal vehicle because he didn't have a company van left to work out of (all the rest of his workers were out on calls). He was able to diagnose the problem and get us set up with a temporary fix until they could send someone out the following week to permanently solve the problem. And it works great. They were professional and courteous. We really appreciated Rob coming out to help with the horses on such short notice because the tank was frozen solid. He took Minnesota nice to a new level!

We asked for quotes from 3 Electricians in the area (SE Minnesota). Rob was the only one that was professional, took the time to listen to our needs, recommended services, and review the situation. I can't say enough good things about this company. We had an existing circuit breaker panel with only 3 available circuits, and we knew that the new hot tub would take 2 of those. Given that we have plans in the future to finish our basement (which would require about 8 - 10 new circuits) we talked with Rob about whether what type of additional panel we might need (100 amp, 50 amp, # of circuits and so on). Rob took a look at our basement, estimated the number of circuits we'd need, and recommended a panel for us. Since the hot tub required a circuit panel specifically for it as well, Rob provided an estimate to: 1) Install a new 100 amp panel 2) Install the hot tub 50 amp panel and breakers 3) Hook up the hot tub to the new panel 4) Additional costs (such as wiring, labor, etc). When the electrician came out to install everything, there were no surprises. No 'oh we forgot about...' issues at all. He was very professional and knowledgeable. Once he was finished, he walked us through the inspection process, and scheduled the inspection for us. It was a nice, hands-off no-worries experience. When we got the invoice, the only variation between the estimate and the actual charge was a $70 'Out of Rochester Server area' fee, which is absolutely reasonable as we live about 50 miles from Rochester.

I had some friends over late Friday evening and we were going to hit the hot tub. Much to my dismay, removing the cover revealed a half-inch layer of ice instead of steamy, swirly goodness. I did some basic checking: I looked in the panel and saw the breaker was tripped, tried to reset and it tripped again immediately. So I went upstairs and removed the service disconnect from the hot tub, tried to flip the breaker again, and it still tripped immediately. So I knew it was either a short in the wiring due to the extreme cold or a bad breaker. I searched for an electrician and found ES&S, called Rob for emergency service and eventually got someone sent out. It was late on Friday when this started, and it was later still by the time the electrician showed up. The man on site was great, he was helpful, thorough, and friendly. We got the breaker out of the panel and tested it, getting it to set successfully out of the panel. When it stayed set after being wired back in, we knew it was the breaker going bad and moved to replace it. He put in a regular 50 amp and we went up to make sure the tub started. Of course, we had some frozen hoses by then, and the guy was good enough to lend me an extension cord and hang around for a while as we put hairdryers and heaters under the hot tub to thaw things out and get it running again. While we waited, he addressed some other minor issues around the house, and though he did leave before we got it working, my wife and I went to bed with a working hot tub at about 3 AM. I talked to Rob a few days later and scheduled another trip to replace the standard breaker they had left with a GFI model. They had no GFI's when they came out originally so this was an additional visit. I also asked to go over the charges. He discussed callout, time-and-a-half for late night, the cost of the breaker itself, and the trip to install the GFI, and gave me an overall total of $440. The electrician showed up on time to replace the breaker again, and five minutes later was on his way. This was about a week after the original event, but I now had a working, properly safe, hot tub again. Another week or so goes by and I finally get the bill for $520 - almost 20% over what I had been quoted. UPDATE: After my original review, Rob contacted me and after some discussion, we were able to reach a resolution. I have amended my review to reflect the additional services provided and the resolution on the billing. We agreed to meet in the middle and based on some other estimates I received, the price is more fair than I initially believed. I have to give Rob credit for reaching out after my original review posted, and I am glad we were able to reach a mutually acceptable resolution. We both had some challenges with this repair but based on how things ended up, I will use ES&S again as an electrical service provider.

I apologize that my quote over the phone was 76.50 less than what the actual bill ended up being. Please remember that this was not an estimate prior to service but in fact an after hour’s emergency call. However due to the nature of this emergency, a separate trip was needed for a specialty breaker that is not a stock item. We hold company meetings when a bad review comes up to see where we can better our services in the future. During this meeting we found that we did in fact leave equipment for you to use for free, gave you 1 hour of labor, installed a switch in your home, and additionally tracked down and corrected a bad ground connection on one of your receptacle circuits in your home, all while we waited for the hot tub to warm up. These are all added values to the services we provided at no extra charge to you. Our professionalism and dedication to our customer’s satisfaction is very important to us. I am sorry that this communication error of an over the phone quote was troublesome to your dissatisfaction, despite the services that we provided at a very professional level. We would like nothing better than to resolve this issue with you and continue to help you with your future electrical needs.

ESS did excellent work. Rob came out to assess the project and provide an estimate, even though it turned out to be the day of the spring's worst snowstorm. He was extremely professional in his communications with us and stayed in touch throughout the project. Cameron was the lead electrician for our project and was friendly, efficient, and thorough in his work. He cleaned up his work area each day and communicated with us whenever he had a question. He found several options for us that we had not considered, and we appreciated him checking with us to ensure that he was doing what we intended. We are new to Rochester and feel very fortunate to have found such a professional and reliable electrician!

Overall, Rob took a totally non-functioning maid's call bell system (enunciator) which not too many electricians have ever had the opportunity to work on and in a very short amount of time familiarized himself with its functioning by studying the apparatus itself, diagnosed the issues going on with it and fixed it. This is especially impressive to me as Rob is a relatively young man and had not had an opportunity to work on a system like this before. His diagnostic abilities are the best I have ever seen. It is refreshing to see someone willing to actually take the time to think through a problem and be able to fix it, rather than just saying "It is too old, I think it must be something in the walls that is not right".
Description of Work: I live in a 113 year old victorian house. This house came complete with an enunciator. This is a mechanism whereby you can summon the servants to any portion of the house by pressing a button in the area where you need assistance. When the button is pressed an arrow in the enunciator box which resides in the kitchen moves to show which area of the home assistance is needed. For example if you need assistance in the hall you press the button in the hall and the enunciator box in the kitchen rings and the arrow points toward "Hall". Our box had quit working. While there are no servants here other than my husband, it is important to me that this old feature of this beautiful home function. Besides the grandchildren love it. I called out no less than 3 electricians from the local area and no one was able to figure out how to fix it or how it worked. My husband tried Angies list and picked out Electrical Solutions & Service even though they are headquartered in Rochester, about 40 minutes from our house. Rob came out on time and within 30 minutes he had figured out how this complicated system of magnets, wiring and electricity worked. He also had to undo mistakes the earlier electricians had made such as pig tailing wires to two different voltage systems together and attaching wiring to the hallway buzzer to the arrow in the enunciator box for the front door, etc. Rob has a grasp for old house wiring and is willing to do the detective work necessary to fix it. He is the one to call if you have any type of wiring issue that really needs figuring out. While I am sure that he could wire or fix anything, there are not many crafts people around now days with the expertise and knowledge to figure out some really complicated old wiring situations. Besides being knowledgeable he is neat, friendly and efficient. I recommend his work highly.

What I anticipated should have been a straightforward experience of installing two timer switches became complicated and expensive when the second switch became inoperative during programming, within minutes of the technician leaving. Thus, the company was called and asked to return. Because there was no way for me to know if the second stitch installed was defective or if it had been incorrectly installed or some other factor was at play, this call seemed necessary. I was not certain if leaving the inoperative switch might lead to further difficulty or safety issues. Thus, the overall objective was not accomplished (the company removed the second timer switch), and we were charged the cost of two visits, one regular install, and one complicated diagnostic charge. Overall, the total cost to me was more than I planned, although I appreciate that the circumstances required two visits because the second timer unit was defective, and there was no way for anyone to know that. So overall, I am now out the cost of a timer switch, the cost of an electrician's visit, and in order to reach my objective, I have to purchase a new replacement switch and ill require an additional install. Arghhh... The company was punctual, responsive and professional. Hopefully, your project outcomes will be better.
Description of Work: Company installed two timer switches. Second switch failed, so company was called and they returned promptly to diagnose the problem. Ended up being a defective switch, so it was removed. As a replacement timer switch was not available, a regular switch was re-installed. Unfortunately, the original technician removed the packaging when he left, so I have nothing but a defective switch to return to the store.
