Computer Smartz LLC

We went there because of the ad that says they fix any computer for $49.95. The owner served me when I dropped off the computer, and had me sign a document that had the price of $49.95 listed on it. It also had a 'required' fee of $49.95 for diagnostics. So far, one count of false advertising. Three times he asked me if the computer was backed up. I said yes, it is backed up - on both an external hard drive and an online service (Mozy). So I was double covered for having my files backed up. I was told that it would probably take a week to get the work done. I called back a week later, and they told me the computer was not ready yet, and that it would take another few days. A few days later I called back, and my computer was not ready yet. Finally at least two weeks later, they say it's ready. When I pick up the computer, the bill has another $60 for backing up the computer and restoring the files. Note: This was not a part of the original estimate, and had been written in AFTER I had signed the document. Also, they never called to ask me if they could back it up. I had told him THREE times that it did not need to be backed up. There's another count of over-charging and rendering services not agreed to. A few days later I asked for a refund on the price of backing up the computer, and gets really upset and threatens to call the cops, basically throwing me out of the store. I stop back in a bit later and he agrees to issue a refund, but never did. I even stopped in the store at least two other times to get my refund and he would not give it to me, even after he agreed to give the refund. The worker that did the job did a good job and was actually ok to talk to, but the owner is not.

The in house tech was chatty, offering complete restoration of my operating systems by the next day. On the 3rd trip into store did I talk with him briefly. Owner is arrogant, offering much technical jargon to distract your complaint. When asked for return of fees since the work was not done, he laughed. When informed that I might file a lawsuit, response was " go ahead, I know all the judges anyway" Conclusion: false adverstising - yellow pages and signs in store false promises of time and actual repairs
