Description of Work: I called this company to get information on their procedure for waterproofing the lower level of our family room. We recently had some water in our below grade family room. Its unfinished and we do have a sump pump . The sump pump was working so the water coming in seemed to be ground water coming in due to the heavy rains that we received this month. I have had one other company come out to do an estimate. They were going to repair the drain tile (not sure there is anything wrong with it or not) and said they warrantee the work for the life of the foundation. I then called American Waterworks to find out what their warrantee was. I have learned that no water proofing company will cover damages to your personal property in their warrantees including American waterworks. Make sure you read the exclusions before you sign with any of these companies. When I mentioned to the worker who does the estimates for American Family that I did not see what good their warrantee was he became very defensive and argumentative with me. Stating people try to pull "fast ones" with their company and unplug their sump pumps to get them to cover the damages. He was very argumentative and unprofessional. Would you want someone like that working on your house for repair of any kind? Just want customers aware that water proofing companies warrantees do not cover damages of "water" to your personal property. In that case, I find the warrantees worthless. You can carry a rider on your insurance policies to cover failure of your sump pump and they are very inexpensive, about $40 a year. If you have water damage not do to failure of your sump, you are out of luck. There are no insurance companies in MN that carry coverage of this sort. You can however buy alarms to place in your lower level that will alert you of encroaching moisture. Ask your local insurance agent for assistance before you spend the money. If you do need water proofing, use a company that is more than willing to extend you professionally courtesy and talk through issues with you rather than arguing with you!

Response from American Waterworks
I'm not real sure why [member's name removed] was even allowed to write this review, we never even worked with him on any project at all. He apparently called our office, and we explained that no insurance company would take on every single homeowners liability for their personal belongings that construction companies work with, not just basement waterproofers, no contractors of any kind. We further explained that some insurance companies offer protect plans for sump pump failure at a really low cost of about $3-$4 a month, which seemed high to him, I guess. Other than that, I'm not real sure what American Waterworks could do for this customer, and I'm sure that an "F" rating was his way of not getting the answers he wanted, sounds like it could have been the same rating for any company that he reached out to with his questions. It sounds to me, that[member's name removed] is angry with the insurance companies, and their policies, not with American Waterworks.

I am very pleased with them. They did a very good job. The drain tiles work awesome. We had pretty heavy torrential rain and there was no drop in my basement at all. They did a great job. They are very friendly. They communicate exactly what they are going to do. They explain why the system is different then and what other systems are available and they were accurate when they said that. They are always available. They were very responsive.
Description of Work: I used American Waterworks for installing drain tiles.

They were booked out two months when I called them. But the projected date of work was right on. They said it would take two days, and it was done in two days. Their workers were courteous and professional! Even though it has been less than a month, I have had no more water in the basement, and we have had some MAJOR RAIN!!! They said I could go ahead and lay carpet. I still check each time it rains and there is no water! The system they put in is guaranteed for the life of my home and they come out once a year, at no cost to me, and check the system! So far, I love it! It was expensive, but not having to pump water after every rain makes the cost not seem so bad!
Description of Work: They fixed the water from coming in my basement by putting drain tile around the walls and a sump pump. Although it has only been a couple weeks, I have had no more water!

We called them and they came out, they couldn't find the issue. They quoted us about $5000 for a major repair (which was necessary since they couldn't find the problem), we put down a $500 deposit. In the meantime, my son forgot that he left the hose on outside to test the water, which was causing the leak. They figured out that it was the outside faucet issue and refunded the deposit with no problem. Kendra, in their office, was particularly helpful and efficient with setting up appointments. I would recommend this company strongly.
Description of Work: They came very quickly and assessed a water leakage in the basement in July 2012. They fixed that issue and it was dry until last week.

They showed up right on time and proceeded to hang plastic sheeting to control the dust from flying out of the work area. They also put tarps down to protect the floor and steps. The quickly took out the concrete floor they needed to in order to do the work. Once done with that they quickly installed a sump pump and related plumbing, and replaced the removed concrete. After they removed the plastic sheeting the only way you could tell they were there is by the fresh concrete part of the floor. And so far no water in the basement

Excellent company to deal with. Scheduled to arrive at 9:30 am, they were there right on the minute. The workmen were extremely polite and professional (1 even asked if it was okay to use the bathroom). We had cleaned the area and covered our belongings with tarps, they weren't really necessary as the three workmen that did the job used plastic sheeting from floor to ceiling to wall off the work areas. Within an hour and a half they had 23 feet of concrete up and out of the basement and a majority of the materials for the job in the basement all carried in or out in five gallon buckets. To protect our steps they covered them with heavy paint clothes.By 2:30 pm they were mixing concrete to patch the floor and by 3:00 they were done. My wife and i expected a dirty mess on the floor and massive amounts of dust. Yes it was a little dusty, but very little. The largest piece of concrete we found on the floor was a chip about the size of a thumbtack. In fact we only found 3 pieces overall.Where they dug in the yard for the discharge line was also amazing! You cannot tell the ground was disturbed either in the grass or the garden. In the garden all the rocks were moved out of their way and very carefully raked back in. The grass in the yard was so well put back that you really have to search to find the shovel marks. The only evidence is the discharge grate which is perfectly flush with the ground. The following day we had over an inch of rain and it rained on and off for the next 3 days after that. Not one drop of water in what used to be a problem area.

They changed their schedule to accomodate my timing needs. Felt their prices were a little high but my schedule demanded some special serivces. The foreman was very proffessional and provided regular communication. The three day job did go into a fourth day as they had some workers not show up for work on one of the days.

I had water coming up through the center of a basement cement floor (the cement floor is carpeted). They were hired to correct this problem (ie stop water from coming in in this location). So the crew came over and spent a day jack hammering a trench (approx 15 feet) down a hallway and through an adjacent laundry room. They also installed a new sump basket and pump in laundry room. Approximately 4 months later water came in in the exact same location as before. Based on before and after photos I believe the situation may actually be worse then before they did the "work". When I called the company about this I was told the SOONEST they could come out to investigate an active water leak was 2 weeks. Since I had no choice I made an appointment 2 weeks out for them to investigate an active leak. After I thought through the situation I began thinking that there is no way I am going to pay to have additional work done by this company. I called back to complain and seek some sort of refund based on my dissatisfaction with their work and the obvious total failure to stop water coming in. When the conversation turned to them possibly doing MORE work for me (additional money from me) then they had people available within a couple days. I declined someone coming down to suggest additional work and have since hired another company to help me with my still wet basement situation, approximately 7 months after they did their work. The bottom line is I gave this company $2000 and they did ABSOLUTELY nothing to help my water situation. When I called for assistance I was told 2 weeks is the soonest they can come to investigate, but when the potential for more work (money) was perceived they were available in days.

Response from American Waterworks
We at American Waterworks are truly sorry for this unfortunate situation. In our defense, the work performed at this particular house is not one of our typical waterproofing systems, the customer would not accept the recommended fix, so the system we installed was a drain tile system that the customer specifically requested to be done. Unfortunately it was not the right fix for this basement. The customer was aware that we would perform the requested work, but would not warrant the work completed. We tried to set up a following appointment to remedy the problem, but the customer declined, and wanted no further contact with the company.

The website described their work very thoroughly as well as Rob did when he came out to give me an estimate. The brochures were very explanatory and the video I watched while Rob was preparing the estimate was also very informative. Brian, Jose and Mark arrived on time each day and worked long days to complete the job in two days. They were very professional and explained what they were doing each step of the way.
Description of Work: House was sinking on one side. They drove 11 pipe piers down to solid ground (approximately 70 feet on each pier), attached them to the footings of the house to stabilize the house and raised that side of the house.

THEY PROMISED MORE THAN THEY COULD DELIVER. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IF THE WORK HAD BEEN DONE AS PROPOSED. THE COMPLAINT RESPONSE WAS GOOD BUT THE CLEAN UP AFTER THE REPAIR WAS UNACCEPTABLE. THE SOD WAS NOT REPLACED AS IN THE INITIAL PROPOSAL. THIS LEAD TO RE SEEDING OF OUR LAWN.

SO FAR, SO GOOD. THEY WERE PUNCTUAL, CLEAN AND PROFESSIONAL. I HAD THEM SIGN A MORE DETAILED CONTRACT THAN WHAT THEY WERE OFFERING. IF YOU HAVE THIS WORK DONE, PROPOSE A MORE CAREFULLY WORDED WARRANTY. THE WARRANTY THEY OFFER IS TRANSFERABLE TO A NEW OWNER, BUT THEY LIMIT LIABILITY SO DON'T EXPECT THEM TO PAY FOR A NEW WALL IF ONE OF THEIR GRIP TITE ANCHORS FAILS AND YOUR WALL COLLAPSES. IN ANY EVENT, THE REPAIRS DEFINITELY PROVIDE MY WIFE AND I SOME PEACE OF MIND.

THEY RESCHEDULED ONCE BECAUSE IT WAS THE BEGINNING OF THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND. HE RESCHEDULED AGAIN BECAUSE HE WAS RUNNING TOO TIGHT WITH HIS PREVIOUS ESTIMATE. THEN HE SAID HE'D CALL ME AFTER I HAD INFORMATION FROM THE OTHER CONTRACTORS TO SEE WHAT THEY SAID. HE NEVER GOT BACK TO ME. THAT'S A LOT OF WORK JUST TO BLOW ME OFF. THEY DID RETURN MY CALLS PROMPTLY. HOWEVER, I DIDN'T BOTHER CONTACTING HIM AGAIN.

AMERICAN WATERWORKS DID COME OUT FOR THE ESTIMATE, RIGHT ON TIME. IT WAS DETERMINED THE CRACKS WERE COSMETIC, RATHER THAN STRUCTURAL, SO WE CHOSE NOT TO DO ANY WORK AT THIS TIME. HOWEVER, THE REPRESENTATIVE GAVE A THOROUGH EXPLANATION OF WHAT TO WATCH FOR IF THIS WOULD TURN INTO A STRUCTURAL ISSUE. ALSO, HE EXPLAINED WHAT WOULD BE REQUIRED TO DO THAT TYPE OF REPAIR AND A ROUGH ESTIMATE OF THE COST. I WAS VERY SATISFIED.
